    I'm in the same boat with you man. I use an FS7, I love the colors and workflow, and I haven't lost a job yet because of it. Probably because I work directly with Businesses and small production companies, but still, it does the job and the final videos looks great! I don't think my Clients would pay me more if I had a Burano lol. Good video man! Appreciate the realistic perspective!

    Hi Brian, love your work, but I have to disagree with you on one thing, it is 4 times better quality in raw than anything Ive used in the lower sony range. Especially when I color grade the images - they literally look like motion stills. The highlight rolloff is comparable to the new Alexa at a much lower price point. Raw is the only reason George lucas used sony on the prequals. For coporates and smaller end doco jobs though, The other cameras will do.
    The next doco film I do will be shot in Raw 6k 50fps on the burano - something the fx6 falls short (res and lattitude) and so does Blackmagic 6k due to its 12bit nature. The Ibis is just the extra cream on the cake.

    In terms of image quality, the main advantage of the Burano comparing to a FX3 or a FX6 is the latitude in post-production having the internal 16-bit RAW X-OCN LT which makes it much easier to color correct and color grade. Adjusting white balance in post takes seconds working with RAW and the colors don’t break apart, that’s what you’re really paying for.
    The image itself is actually pretty similar if you get the exposure and white balance right on camera on a FX3/FX6.
    Obviously the Burano has great features like IBIS paired with VND and better connectivity, but that’s mostly about internal codec.
    Greetings

    You’re so right about a camera, making it either easier to work with or make you a better shooter. In the case of the Burano, it actually makes you look bad, because the camera as is has horrible infrared pollution. I mean that’s ridiculous man. It’s 2024 for chrissake.

    • @BrianHunt

      Thanks
      Ill have to look into the infrared pollution issue on the Burano

    • @chadterpstra
      @chadterpstra 7 місяців тому +2

      FYI, I’ve tested side by side and the IR pollution is equal to that of the FX6. It’s just that on the Burano, black fabric at full ND will have a slight red tint where on the FX6, it’s more purple.

    It's a near perfect camera that is way overpriced. It should be 20k tops. An FX3 and FX6 together would be under 10k and these cameras together can do practically anything as long as 4k remains the standard which it should be for at least the next 5-7 years.

    Very good reasoning, very well worded! 'More expensive gear won't make you a better filmmaker' (how true!), for many small business owners and owner-operators the advantages of the more expensive cameras like the Burano (internal stabilization, V-mount, EBU/more robust audio inputs, etc. but no global shutter) won't justify the extra costs over the many great and affordable cameras these days. Clients many times indeed don't care less about the camera you use.
    We shoot with a Sony F55 and FX6 at the moment (both camera's capable of shooting great footage), the Burano does not make sense for us at the moment for exactly the reasons you mention in your video.

    Great take, finally someone with a different opinion and not gushing over a camera because it's new. It's a great camera but it's also Sony fleshing out it's offerings at different price points. OR potion is also an issue I've seen which is a head scratcher for me. I'm happy with my FX6's

      Others are seeing similar weekness too. But I do think a lot of people justifying their purchase. Once I saw the rolling shutter, I cancelled my order and spent a little extra to get the new Red V-Raptor X. There are trade offs of course, but dang you get 120fps, global shutter, 17:9, no crop 8k.

      @@chrisabruce Good choice man, I like having a few different tool in my camera bag. After having an extended play with the Burano I felt the same. I feel if this was another company with less cameras there would be a less positive reception and I feel like its because Burano is seen as fixing some FX6 issues.

  • @unemployicus
    @unemployicus 6 місяців тому

    Is it 4 times this? Is it 4X that? Sorry, but your math is wrong imo. The Burano has a color science and image IQ that is close to the Venice 2. I can assure you that those FS6s can't get anywhere near that IQ wise. That's the spot of the Burano in the CineAlta line. Just because this camera is not for you doesn't suddenly make those FS6s comparable imho. My next camera will either be a Burano, or a CS500mii. What do these cameras have in common? Great color science and IQ. I previously had an F3 (amazing IQ), but the FS line all have that typical video-ish Sony color science and codecs that are not the easiest to grade. Never liked them for that reason (I do both TV and film, so that might explain it). Just my opinion, of course.

      This is not the way he argued. Of course, the image of the Burano is better than every lower priced camera from Sony. But in my opinion, he is completely right: if no customer is skilled enough to see the difference, and if no customer wants to pay an extra amount of money, it is a very silly invest. There can be reasons to buy a Burano, but this must be judged by everyone individually. For me, exactly the same thing: there are good reasons to buy one, but economically, it would be silly.
