Installing a BAK Flip bed cover on the theft recovery GMC Sierra rebuild

- The customer that bought my 2017 GMC Sierra Denali rebuild asked me to get him a bed cover. I chose this BAKFlip G2 Hard Folding Tonneau Cover because I have the older version on my personal truck and happen to like it. I have used some others that I did not like as much for different reasons and all the complaints I had about mine, they fixed on this new style. If you don't like reading directions (who does?), watch this video and you should have it done in about 20 minutes.

Tossing the instructions in the pile was the most Scott thing in the world
I frickin love it , when he had the directions and said , “ in the pile “ !!
It’s always a good day when you get an afternoon notification from Scott with a new video. Keep them coming Scott. See you in the next installment.
I have an earlier version of this cover on my 1994 GMC and have been pleased with it. My complaints with it are the same two you mentioned that have been resolved. Namely, the dangling support rods and the need to close the tailgate first before you drop the cover. Enjoyable video.
I've done so many of these BAKFlip tonneau covers...so so easy set up, they nailed the engineering.
Pretty straightforward Scott, thanks.
After a boatload of research on bed covers I ended up with one of these. Great decision, reasonable security and a good solid deck. And also still works if I want to throw a motorcycle in the back. Had it about 4 years and I'm still pleased.
BakFlip G2 was the best accessory I have purchased for a pickup, returns the bed to usable storage and is super easy to use. Easy Peasy !!!!
Thanks for not ruining it with one of cheap, generic white camper shell tops made of corrugated metal that doesn't fit the lines of the truck. Really nice looking bed cover.
I’ve had 2 BAKFlips revolver on a 2015 GMC Sierra and 2019 Ford F-250 lariat. Great covers i like the revolver because it doesn’t block the hole back window and holds up to 400lbs on top. Still have the cover on the Ford the bed is dry and it still works great.
I use re-claimed cardboard to ship out my products and am always on the look out for large clean sheets. When I see you open boxes like that I get a little excited and dismayed because I can't have it lol
Vtuned bought some body panels for his mustang a while ago and those boxes were like 8' x 5' and I almost cried 😞
I've used Bak-Flip products on my trucks and love them
I put one of these on my tacoma after having a subpar roll up on my last truck. Big fan of the bakflips, super easy install. Took me less than an hour on the tacoma. Shame the one for a 5ft tacoma bed costs 90% of what one for a truck with an 8ft bed costs
I put a Rugged Ridge hard roll up cover on my Gladiator. Another good choice, very happy with it.
Gladiators are great looking trucks.
I just installed one of those similar covers for my 2012 Chevy Avalanche. It fits very nicely.
i bought a lenox , the bak flip was about 300 more.. i was extremely happy the day i installed mine.. very good addon..
7am in Sydney, what a great start to the day!👍
Today’s video brought to you by Acme. Nice video. Thanks 👍
I don't own a truck.But I found this very satisfying!
I had this on my 2016 Sierra and loved it, was surprisingly water tight too
Just installed a G2 cover on a '22 Frontier. I had to grind out mounting bracket slots for it to fit. It leaks at EVERY fold seam. I am certain it will not be long before the foam core is damaged by the water inside the cover. The rear corners do not cover the tail gate gaps at all so water is drawn into the rails and bed while driving - even in a light rain
Bonus video! 6:00 AM Thursday morning here in Queensland Australia, where it was raining all day yesterday and it looks like today is the same.
Normal wear/tear on mine. Over 8 years on my BAKFlip. The underneath support rails have rotted out so it doesn't latch anymore and I also had to replace the gasket. Strong enough to stand on.
Hello from the Netherlands .
thanks for the video Scott .
Sincerely, Hollandduck
Scott, I had the same version BakFlip on my ‘05 Silverado Ext. Cab with an 8 foot bed.
It was a great cover and I had the same concerns you mentioned, since my bed was 8’ it had four panels. It was heavy folding all the up against the window.
To make it easier to get things out of the bed I installed a bed slide. That was a great combination.
On my next pickup, I plan on doing the same.
Great video.
Be sure to put that excess foam piece you cut off in a safe place. If you save like 30 of those, you'll have a free strip.
I did a Rugged Country cover, which is very similar to the BAK Flip on my Tacoma. I can't say enough nice things about it. I especially like that it is actually waterproof.
Put one on my sons 2015 F150 and then my new Ram 2500 recently...love the BAKFlip G2...I had a Retrax rollup hard cover on my last truck and liked it but it scratched easy and the canister behind the cab took up too much room in the bed.
Agreed 🤝 definitely the best bedcover out there. Glad to see the rear seal issue is resolved
2:12 "a nice seal" is always better than a bad walrus!!!!
i have this cover on my 15 F250 and I love it, definitely hurt the wallet compared to others but i really wanted to be able to use all of the bed if need be and not just 2/3rd of it.
No scream or mr spoty im disapointed 😁 great video as always scott
3:56 I had a customer come by to do a pickup and she had a cover like this. Had to flip her cover all the way forward and her straps had shrunk over time. She said they were fine when it was new but now they were too short. Sure enough when I flipped the cover all the way up they didn't reach. (5:25 it folded flat against the first panel, didn't lean against the window which is kind of odd).
I'd say Scott shelling out monies was indeed the hardest part.. he is tighter than a frogs azz under water..😆 🤣 😂. Sty safe and be well.. woooo hooo.. closer to Friday
They should sponsor you! I don't even own a pick-up truck and I want one...
I’ve had the BAK Revolver tonneau cover for a few years, but I dislike that half of the back window is covered up when rolled up. This video makes me think I should make the switch to the flip.
the black tape at the beginning of the install is for preventing water to leak through into the truck bed
Well Done Scott!
I also have the G2 on my RAM 2500. Love the low profile.
Bonus video? Nice 👍🏼
Nobody believes me when I tell them this but I actually invented the tonneau cover rail system when I was about 22 years old. I had a 1979 Chevy short wide bed that I wanted to put a tonneau cover on but I didn't want to rivet a bunch of snaps on the bed so I devised a way to use one inch aluminum L stock to the inside of the bed and voilà no rivet snaps on the bed.
Put one on my 2018 2500 Denali. Great product easy to install even included the tool tray. It was a little tricky like design change but once it was in works great.
Is that 4 Ugga Duggas on an 18V or 4 Ugga Duggas on a 20V Ugga Dugga generating tool? 🤷♂
*Thank You* for the video. Entertaining as always. 👍👍👍👍👍
I've had my G2 since 2015...it's been very useful but the panels are now delaminating badly. I think it's due to water infiltration into the panel causing the glue to fail. I am going to attempt to take it apart and reglue the panels with new foam.
My rails rotted off. Got it in 2014.
No t shirts or merchandise to sell? I know what to print on your t shirt…..Click or in the pile ….hehehehe another good video Scott!
Instructions/directions?
You mean the manufactures suggestions.
Hey is Spotty on leave or something?
Nice video, Scott!
7:00 U bend here in the uk
Nice. I’m looking for something like this for my Tundra.
Another bonus video ! Yea !!!!
I must be getting old, because I think that's pretty nice.
I was counting I think one of those on the driver side was 5 uga dugas, which might void the warranty! :)
Would that not be a bad idea riding down gravel or bumpy road slapping on back window ?
Great video, as always
What happened to the red single cab build?
Is the install different if I have a 2 wheel drive truck?
Scott, what is your preference of the hard covers over the soft covers? Is it security or vanity? I have the soft one and no preference here it was just on the truck when I bought it but you seem to like the hard ones so wondering why? Take care
These mid week videos make me think I stroked out and skipped to Friday.
Nice one scott
A $10K install on rubber baby buggy bumpers... SWEET!
I know there's a Mustang around there somewhere that needs some loving … lol
Does a truck get better gas mileage.with a cover.
Do they make it for a 1986 Dodge D150? I think with how well old trucks sell it might make sense.
I have a 2021 Silverado, and I'm curious about if GM puts out a rear tailgate gasket. When running on gravel, it back feeds dust in my box. Any suggestions?
Aftermarket has been solving that problem for a decade or longer. Search for TrailSeal, tailgate gasket or similar . I am not aware of any OEM solutions.
Wow!
I don't ever slow up, no I don't take shiiii , I got no.... Oh it's not gonna play
Took me a lot longer to invent that type of system than it takes to install the kits my invention spawned. You're welcome.
Just to ask I hope you recycle that cardboard Box that the cover came in
Has the BAK flip on my F150 decided to go with the revolver X2 on my super duty and it’s much better.
Hey, a humpday video!! I don't have my beer or pizza ready.. Where's an update on the write off 1500?
Great video!
That's actually not a bad price considering solid ones are twice as much.
Instructions are just another man’s opinion
what is the brand name of the bed cover?
Literally in the description... and the title... and the video...
Snazzy!
Do you have thefts in America?
Are they water tight ??
They are not watertight....
I'm a little disappointed you didn't use the most rusty and dill razor you could find Also new night wow no more Friday night And I do the same thing with the instructions lol
Chuck is not impressed.
Hey look, someone else made a truck into an suv??
👍
Nice looking cover. I was using a cover but went with a topper instead. Anyone want a tonneau cover for a F150 Super Cab?
This would’ve been a perfect colab! We still need to do an install together. Solid work as usual!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This vid pretty much proves that most of these trucks get used like a car with a big trunk.
Nice cover but not totally waterproof.
Had it for 4+years now. Still good.
All of our work trucks have this same BAK Flip Cover and they all LEAK......
That appears to be a factory spray-in bed liner. Are they as bad as the third parties claim?
Might as well ask what the best oil is... Everybody uses and treats their rides differently. One thing I can tell you is they are indeed thinner than the average aftermarket. The average truck in the US is a glorified mini-van. OEM is more than sufficient for that crowd.
@@ShainAndrews I heard they peel off after a few chips. So I figured I'd ask someone who may or may not know a gnome or two lol. Also the truest concrete cowboy puts carpet in the bed lol.
I don't like the spray in liner because it fades and chips off after a while of using it. I have the Bedrug in mine and then put a rubber mat over that on the floor. Great setup. Bed still looks brand new under the Bedrug.
@@MidWestErb I've loaded and skid pallets weighing in the low to mid 3k lb range on them. No issues.
One would think that company would toss you a bone.
Those side rails need some kind of water seal...
There's gasket underneath and the cover has a rubber flap down the sides.
I heard the buyer was looking for red, but had to settle for a black truck.🤔🤔
3❤❤
😎😎😎👍👍👍
What in tarnation.... Not one "Installation Tool" and only 1 "In the Pile" and no Outro Music? I'm sad ☹.
For Olga duggar's🤣🤣🤣

That’s worth more than my truck lol 😂
Well done. Great job. You so deserve a pizza.
Hello
😶🌫🧐🤟👍
I have this on my truck and I wouldn’t buy it again. The company replaced the first one under warranty because it was coming apart and sagging in the middle the second one is doing the same thing. More than glad to post pictures if anyone thinks I’m just bitching to bitch.
Mine's 8 years old. Rails underneath rotted off. I don't think they'll warranty it..
