    Just bought the DSL40c today brand new and it sounds great. All the people saying these sound like crap must be judging it from just this video and using lower quality headphones, you have to remember that UA-cam compresses all these videos so what you listen to on here and what you hear in person actually playing the amp are most of the time completely different

      ***** I own one and think it's a fantastic amp as well. Since I like the Marshall sound more than the Fender sound, I think its the best sub-$1k amp out there. If you haven't already, clip the C19 cap in channel 2, and replace the speaker with a Celestion Creamback... drool-inducing tone

    • @kissrocks45
      @kissrocks45 9 років тому

      I put a old stock GE 12ax7WA in the v2 for warmth and a Tungsol in the v1,v3 JJ803 added a little low end and a Slyvania in the PI v4 almost 30 hrs on the speaker, lead1 and lead 2 sound really good. Lead 2 gain around half and the bass at 5 works well. Still prb change the speaker maybe in the future.

      I have actually since sold my DSL40c a couple months back because I wanted to go a completely different route than the typical Gibson + Marshall combo to try and get my own sound. Recently purchased a Blackstar Ht5th and a Fender Telecaster, and they both work great especially the amp, would definitely recommend Blackstar products. I still love the sound of that Marshall though and if I see a used one up for sale I may just have to purchase it.

      @Madam Murdrum did you try replacing the Celestion Seventy80? They're garbage speakers. I put a Vintage 30 in mine and replaced the tubes and properly biased it and it sounds amazing!

      You're right, it is a do all amp and the price cant be beat. Too bad they're not UK made though for the extra reliability. I heard they end up in the shop too often with electronics frying out etc. Then again you got Gary Holt from slayer using these live so idk, I suppose once the bugs are worked out. Very tempting at that price.

    • @Driftuner
      @Driftuner 9 років тому

      depends..if its 15 watt from a tube amp, then yes, so loud in fact you could easily small-gig it...now, 15 transistor/digital watts? not really loud and punchy enough for anything other then practicing only...enough to maybe keep up with a very soft drummer in a very small room..

    • @FreshBagelz
      @FreshBagelz 9 років тому

      Pe Peroni I currently own a Roland 40GX, and I really want to switch to a tube amp. Would the 15c be able to surpass the 40gx volume wise? Also is it worth it to just fork over the extra 100$ and get the 40c? Thanks

    • @Driftuner
      @Driftuner 9 років тому

      FreshBagelz
      15w tube and 40w transistor are somewhat comparable, but since the 40gx has a relative small cabinet and a smaller 10 inch speaker, and the cabinet from the 15c isnt only bigger but its loaded with a 12inch speaker, the 15c will def move quite a lot more air then the gx..also remember the fact that its not only about volume and moving air, its also about articulation..transistor amps articulate the better the lower you turn it down, tubes are the opposite, the higher you cranck it up the better it gets and the better it responds ands sounds...unfortunately the best advice i can give you is to test one out, which is what everyone else would say...about the 40c..well, yes its def going to be louder, but then remember what i said about articulation...if the tube amp is too powerfull it might not work for smaller applications like practicing or smaller gigs, since you have to cranck it up to get a good tone out of it, but then 40 tube watts crancked up is pretty damn loud..

      Night Beard and?

    • @thinkingape7655
      @thinkingape7655 7 років тому

      Guitarnivor .... And, in a musical world dominated by the latest and greatest; the Kemper is one more thing I don't need that I'd love to buy. Let's face it, most of this tech isn't needed, even for tone snobs like myself. Chappers uses the rationalization that the Kemper will make his touring life so much easier and cheaper, instead of hauling tons of gear while on tour. So let's negate that he's not making this argument for the sole purpose of selling gear. Logically the Kemper makes sense; however, I would counter that a experienced musician like Chappers doesn't "need" to haul a ton of gear while touring. He like many others just wants options, but in all reality all we need is a quality head, some pedals and a couple guitars. I've been around this game long enough to recognize marketing over necessity.
      Regardless, if you got another 3 grand for a Kemper and cab, by all means indulge yourself. And in a few years you will see another thing that will cost thousands that you "need" to buy. My point is, when will the proverbial musical masses decide we have enough tech, so let's just focus on making music. \m/

    • @shoeonhead
      @shoeonhead 7 років тому +1

      Night Beard You're overthinking this in my opinion. There is never too much gear if the market is still demanding it. There is no "needed" gear at all, only wanted gear, gear is not necessary to survival. It's a supply and demand system, the consumer demands the products that they like from the free market, manufacturers must supply a product for the demand made by the potential cliental. Multiple companies compete to have their product be the most demanded, so innovation to appease the market is needed to stay competitive. When you say an artist doesn't need to haul around a lot of gear, you're also wrong in some cases. A band or artist needs to haul around as much gear as will give them their sound and will give the audience the sound they came for. You don't go to a gig with a Pathfinder 15 and a traveler guitar if it sounds nothing like the gear you wrote the songs on. You bring all the shit that makes your sound. The Kemper basically perfectly emulates multiple amps and does stellar cab simulation. So I agree that's a great rational to get one so you don't ruin your back and wallet. A byproduct of the convenience of that product is that it's appealing to a certain group of musicians. The product targets a demographic that wants that type of thing. The musical masses will never have enough tech, new stuff has new sonic qualities and new sonic qualities means the potential for new music.

    • @thinkingape7655
      @thinkingape7655 7 років тому

      Guitarnivor We both agree the Kemper is a cool piece of gear. Were I disagree is the "masses" aren't signed touring artist on a major label. If you've played as many places as I have, you would know that most, if not all venues, will never be able to sound like recording studios. Let's be realistic here and not argue semantics. If you've been to a professional performance they may have sounded great, but I assure you with all the venues we play, the venues will never be the same acoustically, nor will they come close to a studio performance. Regardless, most of the audience is acoustically ignorant and would never be able to discern the nuances between quality amp modelers, let alone amps and cabs in a live performance setting. When I plug in my Elevenrack or POD HD500x to a house PA or my PA, none of my audience walks away thinking they wish I would've used my Mega Boogie or went out and bought a Kemper. If anyone says otherwise, they are not experienced musicians or lying to themselves.

    -can the dsl40c can be use on 20w mod at bedroom volume?
    -will the dsl15c or dsl15h be heard in a band rehearsal?

    • @Nachtopus
      @Nachtopus 9 років тому +3

      -I'm gonna be perfectly honest: I have the 15w version and the switch hardly makes a difference; it's still pretty loud for bedroom practice (unless you use an attenuator).
      -It definitely should. As I said, I have the 15w version, and it's plenty loud, so it should definitely cut through in a band (if necessary though, I'd try running it through a 2x12 or a 4x12 cabinet to boost it). If you are in a serious band though, I'd probably pay the additional $100 and spring for the 40w version, but the 15w is definitely a worthy amp too.

      Wild-Will The 40w is technically better because it has the Boost buttons for each channel, a Resonance knob instead of a switch, different reverbs for each channel, and an FX Loop. Though the 15w will work, I'd definitely get the 40w version if you're in a serious band.

    • @Crunchifyable2
      @Crunchifyable2 9 років тому

      metalmusician6798 Marshall, being Marshall, still suffers from Marshall syndrome. For the best, you need to get at least a 40w / 100w amp.

    • @workmanadam99
      @workmanadam99 9 років тому

      Wild-Will Here's the thing: it depends on what you're doing with it... For example, I play an American Standard Strat and stay mostly on the clean/crunch channels. I like keeping it in 40 watt mode for clean playing because it allows for louder volume before breakup starts occurring (more headroom). I like having this increased headroom for playing in a band setting as it allows me to stay cleaner at higher volumes. However, if you're playing mostly distorted stuff, the 20 watt setting helps it break up much earlier, although there really isn't much of a perceptible volume difference between 20 watts and 40 watts, maybe a couple db difference. If you're going to be playing mostly at home and at lower volumes and more distorted stuff, the 15 watt combo/head versions will allow you to get the tubes cooking at slightly lower volumes than even the 20 watt setting on the DSL40C, but you won't have as much headroom for clean or slightly overdriven stuff. Also, the 15 watt versions use tubes that sound more american. Marshall has made them sound like a Marshall, of course, but you'll experience slightly stiffer bottom end, slightly more scooped mids, more round highs, and you'll lose some of that chewiness that comes with british tubes. I hope this makes sense.

    Why are so many guitar snobs so hung up over where stuff is made?! In a blind test, 9/10 wouldn't be able to tell at all. It seems that if a guitar isn't made in America, it must be shit and if something is made in the Far East, it must be 'cheap shit'! This just isn't the case. Yes, some some stuff from China or Vietnam etc is garbage, but not everything. People need to learn to play with their ears and not their eyes!

    • @chrissagredo7129
      @chrissagredo7129 7 років тому +2

      Chris Toft it is well known and very clear to experienced players that American guitar manufacturing is superior. At least in the big brands. Gibson USA's are phenomenal compared to the Indonesian Epiphone counterpart (although even then they're pretty damn close). Mexican Strats have nothing on an OG Corona CA Strat. Guitars from overseas are made in mass production factories. Everything is standardized and mostly machine handled in foreign factories, enabling cheaper prices for Epiphones and such. Handmade guitars from the states here have a human touch and have individual personality. Can't beat it.

    • @ChrisToft
      @ChrisToft 7 років тому +3

      Christian Sagredo Yeah I understand, I'm a professional musician and I have several USA made Gibsons, all of which I love. But I also have a few Mexican made EVH guitar which sound, feel and look as good as their American counterparts but for a fraction of the price.
      I just feel that if people worried more about playing and less about where the stuff comes from, they'd be better players! Any top guitarist can make cheap gear sound good. It's mostly in the fingers and ears...not the geographic location!

With a few good pedals there's not much you can't get out of it.:)
