Mine is in progress, 244s, large crash bars, no sump plate yet but I have an RE plate on the shelf. Other mods are taller/wider bars, hand guards, mufflers, air filter & ring and booster plug. It's a tall, loud, powerful bike compared to the other RE models I've ridden. 21" wheel and fork mods with Himmy fork innards, cheap cartridge emulators and cheap preload caps are on the shelf too.
"In my country this is just a road" 😄 We, me and the boys, all on dual sports, went up a hill via a shallow rivulet... everything else was forest. So we ride over baby-heads, marveling at our amazing prowess. We reach the top exhausted and humbled. Reaching, we find there is a temple there. Out comes the priest, in traditional vestments, and barefoot. Two blokes follows, in flip-flops. They sit behind him on his 125 CC moped, and off they go, bounding down the stream, the we had come, 3 up, on a tee-tiny bike, with half bald tires, and drum brakes. Riding is about skill and it is about heart. All else is first world problems.
In June I woke my Orange Crush from its winter rest, it needed tires so on went the Shinko 244s I bought in August '23, 4.10 front and 5.10 rear just as you called out. After a careful 50 miles I set off with a pair of friends from one of the RE forums for a week' s ride through MA, NY, PA, DE, NY, VT, NH then back to MA. I put on 1370 miles, it was hot and dry all week and the 244s worked beautifully on pavement but yes not a quiet ride, it'll be a few weeks more until I ride again but I've built a 21" front wheel shod with a P rated 2.75x21 Shinko 244, I can't wait to bolt that wheel on. More shorts and a few videos on my channel. Cheers.
I'm planning on buying an interceptor to customize into a scrambler style as well. Love the mods you did on yours, the tires look really good. I'm for sure going to get some that are similar. I also plan on changing out the exhaust for one of the high exhaust systems, similar to how the Triumph scramblers look. The high exhaust adds so much style to the scrambler imo, that is an expensive mod though lol
Thanks! I would definitely recommend taking a close look at the Triumph. If you can find a decent used Triumph Scrambler you could end up with a lot more bike for similar money and less effort. (And better resale value) Would love to hear what you decide!
I put Heidenau K60 tires front and back on mine. The intention is to be able to handle all roads, dirt, gravel, pavement, etc... I do not ride off road with this bike. The K60 s are great all rounders.
Really intrigued to see where Enfield's own 650 Scrambler lands relative to this, ideally a modified subframe, longer forks and shocks and a 19" front wheel... we'll see though! It doesn't need to be a precise enduro machine, it just needs a bit more clearance and better options for tyres to be a "scrambler". I'm just hoping the rumours aren't true that they'll call it the "bear"
I am heading for the Silk Road so I need a Interceptor Enduro... RE make scramblers now this year a 411, , but I want something like yours A 650CC..I think your front tyre is wrong choice,to big and wide, and front forks could do with 6mm shims added to stiffen it up abit, you are bounding around to much off road..
you are to scared to even drop it..hence your riding style..if you want a street bike with clean chrome then dont go off road, and all that is associated with off road, drops, mud, breakages..you need to take it and go hard out abit more, then over time you will feel more comfortable with the bike

Do you get any wobble at high speed? Mine have a slight imbalance above 80

Any scrambler with less than 200mm suspension travel front and rear is always going to struggle. And at least a 19/17 wheel combo, 21/18 better.
