Steve, you certainly have a God given gift and it's brilliant that you didn't waste it. I think this was a predestined path or career choice, for your life. You have such a positive effect for change not only for the horses but also for the owners/riders and caretakers ... and even us viewers. What's extra special and the reason I know it's a God-given gift, is you remain humble, kind to all and non-judgmental ... whether it be towards a man or beast. Bless your heart and soul!
Talking and singing to a horse is a way that some folks deal with the fear of dealing with animals in general. Instead of using vocal emissions as the language of the leader they are actually broadcasting an emergency alert. Animals find this to be unnerving and annoying. Some animals are very forgiving or deaf. And the unnecessary touching and mauling. Another awful habit of humans that mean well. You are helping so many to interact with the animal kingdom. You are revealing the basics of the magic that can happen between horse and human. Thank you 🙏
Hmm, interesting, and one point that could really make sense to people is that silence for a prey animal allows them to be able to HEAR possible danger sounds, which could get drowned out by other sounds.
Great communication… I like how you communicate with the owners, and equines. Interestingly it takes less work communicating lessons done right with animals than us humans. I’ve learnt so much from you, on senses communication and needing to control my bad habits I’ve learnt over the years. Thank you so much 😀 from Queensland Australia.
Omgosh, having grown up with an American Welsh pony breeder as a riding instructor and helping her start the babies, I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS PONY❣️ Holy moly, he’s DARLING!
You're a magician Steve. That pony will surely be happier. And, while I'm at it, good news about Nita. Hope she will have a smooth time making her baby. How exciting!
Nice looking pony. Glad to know she got him to handle better. Seemed like she was holding him much closer on the lead. I hope she keeps him so he can settle in.
Yes, that was niggling at me… and I think since this time Steve has been asking people to give more lead space. I hope too she has internet and youtube now to see the contrast of how Steve handled the pony and she could pick up tips from watching. I see though that the most important piece was, in keeping it simple to three things, the backing up, turning the hindquarters, and leading to a proper stop. And it’s true, integrating just three things until they become you is usually more than enough of a task for most everyone, me included.
Context means so much. He fills us in on the context. If your kid is having a problem you ask about the family - horses are the same i guess. This guy has to pay attention to so many things. Respect.
You show how important it is to constantly read the horse. You show that rules that is consistant makes it possible for the horse to relax and trust you. I like your videos.
One of the first stories I worked on as a young reporter was of a little girl-maybe 8 years old-dragged miles to death by a rented pony at a riding club. Everyone was blaming everyone else-the pony had a history, the girl’s helmet wasn’t tight enough, the pony had too much of a stretch to run (should have been in a smaller fenced area). Sad, sad, sad.
Thank you for your basic, common sense approach to showing people how not to fail their horses and ponies by misunderstanding what they are trying to tell us. Granted, I have only watched about 6 of your videos, but you are so cognizant of how a horse's mind works, and you simply, but eloquently convey to us (and the owners) what you "hear" in their behavior and how to redirect them in a manner that gives positive results. The previous 6 videos won't be the last I watch. I have had the privilege of having horses in my life since I was 5; I'm about to turn 61, and you have given me such good information on, and reminded me of some other things that will keep me from getting lazy with my babies.
Watching this the 2nd time!😊❤ He is gorgeous! I had one as a child, and she was a sweetheart 💕 Thank you for taking the time to teach him and his human. 😊❤
Beautiful pony. & his inner beauty showed very quickly. You have a great gift of communication that they understand & respond to. I love your attitude & your videos are very uplifting. Thank you so much for sharing here. Kind regards 🐴 🧢💜
I know it’s a year ago now, so my question is perhaps more for other situations. ✨📿🎗🐎I notice that you normally give the horses etc a much longer lead space than this nice lady and so many other people too had. Isn’t that also a huge piece of the change, giving them enough space to be able to see and respond? It’s really nice to see that they had a great relationship after that one session. Have you had any further updates?
Gorgeous pony. Hopefully after your help, he’ll have a home for much longer than a year. Not sure which video this was, but it was one I watched recently. I was hoping you’d give in and let your wife have the puppy she wanted:( I mean, doesn’t she deserve one ? :)
Cory Justice They have started to film their videos this way now. Charlotte sometimes needs the odd reminders at the start, but Tanya has got it down pat!! Have a great week everyone!! 💖 Love from a Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn. 💖 🇨🇦
Baby doll face. Never heard that term before. But it is self explanatory. He is a bit cresty, not fat, just the neck. I like your technique of ask and reward. It’s very effective. We all love on them and I see how I did it to myself with my pushy mare.
I always go in with the adage of a military brat---K.I.S.S. Which stands for Keep It Stupidly Simple. And the simpler it is, the owners grasp it a lot quicker that way. But that's just me. 💖 Stay Safe Everyone!! From Ontario, Canada, Jenn. 💖 💖 🇨🇦 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
@@louisegogel7973 Just the way my ex military father taught it to me. And it makes sense. You don't want to put anyone down, you always want to give POSITIVE ADVICE ON ANYTHING. If you call anyone "stupid" often enough? They start to believe it. And that's the farthest thing from the truth there is. Everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, learns things differently. You can't "cookie cutter" a way someone LEARNS anything, but if you make it as simple, and as concise as possible, they will grasp the concept faster and it will stick with that person for the rest of their lives. Just the way I was taught, and how I now teach myself. Have a great week ahead!! 💖Jenn
@@jenniferlehman326 Thank you! I love your mindset and it is so true that what is repeated starts to seem real! You are following the goodness of a very special father and making a difference in the world!! Keep It Stupidly Simple is an awesome message for sure! 💖✨
Never, ever buy any animal sight unseen! Also, these pony breeds were bred to do draft work in the mines of England. They were bred to be tough, not to be children's playthings.
Any idea why owners do not allow as much slack in the lead rope a Steve does? So many of them tend to lead their animal almost at the head. This didn't allow the animal much time to stop when the owner stops.
&&& if people really wish to educate themselves... they'd start the Parelli program.... not a sales plug either... but yeah I've got a 22 foot line and I like my space
It's hard (for humans) to change a habit of a lifetime. Parelli taught me to lead with slack in the rope. Also if we keep our mouthy ponies out of our space they cant actually bite us.
@@lydiagould3090 With gentle nudges and lots of clear education showing the effectiveness of a longer lead line, the news sinks slowly into the human consciousness and one person after the other starts an exponential curve of integrating that skill! May it already be along the curve close to the tipping point now!
it's so great how much just this little things work. well, no horse is acting like a dramaqueen. if they would they would need to much energie. here an ear changing, there a flaring nostrils or a little glimps of teeth. and other horses react to this signs. we, humans, think, bc this animals are stronger than us we have to be strong even brutal. thanks for showing not only the horse has to have respect but also the owner should respect the horse as the animal it is. and for sure humans are the only living which think in categories of good and bad.

Hi Steve do u have any videos on horses that tend to rush once mounted as my horse tends to get abit giddy sometimes whilst walking round on grass to gateway
I have watched many of your videos and I have no personal experience of horses except to say that they are beautiful animals, but before you said it at the end of your video, I realized it is the owners that need to be trained more than the horses. Even after watching you a number of times this young woman did not do exactly what you were telling her. She was listening with half an ear and relating to how she works the horse instead of immersing herself in what you are saying AND doing. The young woman was not giving as much rope as you did, she was yanking on the rope far harder than you did and wasn’t giving as clear indication with waving as you did. I hope this young woman relaxes a bit more and is able to adhere to your instructions more closely otherwise this poor pony is heading for the nackers’ yard.
I agree with your observations and yet I also heard so clearly that the relationship changed since that session for such a positive turn that I believe the relaxation on both sides was inevitable. Have hope and heart for them. They both did well!

Women do that tho, we nurture and comfort. But we must stand tall and be the leader with the equine or risk their disdain.
You've got it! 👍
Nice looking pony. Glad to know she got him to handle better. Seemed like she was holding him much closer on the lead.

My Pepi looked like him. I did wrong by him, I lost him for a boyfriend... So so wrong to my pony friendship.:(( xxx
We live, we learn, feel the joy of having had him and allow, if it is a good thing for you both, that you come back together some time.
Sweet!

call it basic training instead of simple... cause for too many people it isn't simple
