Steve, If I had been raised with your patience and understanding rather in foster homes, beaten into submission...I would be a totally different person today. @suewright3345 the fact you called me sister makes me think you may be one of JW's...Thanks for the hugs etc. I'm no longer able to find a therapist that takes Medicare or that treats other issues than addictions. I find Steve's channel soothes my soul. His understanding of horses, goes right along with my therapy. I have a lot of issues that aren't discussed even now that the GB has opened the way. Noone really knows me because I don't trust anyone. Balance is not in my vocabulary...lol. It's like explaining the color blue to a person blind from birth. I get the concept, but, not the understanding or how to attain it. Steve on some level gets it and like the horses, it calms me when I'm anxious or depressed. My elders in Texas used to tell me not to ask for more time after the 1000 years is up! If you are my sister, I love you wherever you are...If you're not, then thanks again for the hug, it was a warm fuzzy, not a cold pickle...lol. Therapy talk!

What an interesting video! I love watching how you quietly, patiently, but persistently guide the horse into making the right decisions! Wish I would have had your videos when my horse was alive. I had her from 15 to 31 years old. I loved working with her and teaching her things. She was smart, and mostly willing, but not very quiet and relaxed loading in my trailer. I know for sure she would have gotten great at it if I had known your techniques Though I won't ever have another horse (I'm 74), I am completely enjoying your videos. This is one of the best horse trailer training videos I’ve seen, Steve truly knows what he’s doing and I appreciate that you included the entire experience with highlights to see the issues resolve beginning to end. I will apply this to my adopted a 22yro mare who, previous to me, hit her head and face on the trailer roof as she reared up to bolt back out- it’s impossible to load her in under 3 hours now so this video gave me inspiration and knowledge to try, appreciate it!
Ah, Steve, been-there-done-that about a hundred times in my long life. Patience & savvy are keys here. Though have only met two or three that absolutely wouldn't load, & one stallion who decided not to leave the trailer - got a lawn chair & waited him out for ~an hour 😉. Miss my good old Morgan who was such a lovely fella & loved adventures, would get rarin' to go if he saw me hooking the truck up. Handsome mare but boy howdy was she opinionated. Thanks much from the High Desert Rockies.

Can’t I be a horse person without a horse? Never owned a horse, have been on a horse 4-5 times. Last time close to a horse about 2 yrs ago. Love watching horses move. I’ve always wished to have a horse (or two) even at sixty-some yrs of age. Your videos are the new binge. The videos are not just for horse training, they are also human training for many life situations. Approach with confidence, respect, calm and patients. I can’t believe this was just over an hour long! I’m one of your non horsey peeps from VT, USA and there’s a lot of horsey types here! (I have ducks instead!). This fascinated me because she had a big personality! And Tanya when you were laughing about how far she was stretching so was I! I half expected for her belly to start rubbing the ramp! You both are a lifesaver for so many people and their horses. It warms my heart that you two work together along your daughter also! I'm one of the non-horse owners that is totally addicted to your videos. My grandparents street dead ended at the coynty fairgrounds and we spent our summers hanging out in the stables. Loved the horses! I've only ridden three times, it was exhilarating, but not having any training on how to ride they weren't great experiences. Thanks for sharing your expertise!

I admire your gentle handling and kindness in communication. I do believe the UK accent also helps soothe the anguish. I do watch everyday and recently found Monty Roberts He caught my attention because he encourages the healing of the PTS injury. I feel as injured as the horses you care for. I have dreamed of having a horse of my own since I was five 57 years ago. I know I would find healing in the spirit of the horse-rider relationship. Until then I have my cat of 13years who lives in my car with me. She took has taught me trusts these past 6 months living together in the road. Thank you for your videos.

People have favourite sounds, smells etc. as a previous horse-woman, my favourite sound is shod hooves on a hard surface such as concrete. I can almost breath the sound as an experience . Most of your sessions take place in mud so I lose my favourite sound. I SO loved watching this exercise primarily because of the sounds I love so much.

This is the 2nd time I've seen Steve bend down right in front of a nervous horses hoofs to deal with a roap. I know he knows what he's doing but it still scares the hell out me!!! Another great video!!

Good job. I had a horse who was difficult to load, my uncle, who was an old ranch hand said to ride her a long ways and then load her home. She was greatful for the ride home and didn't have any troubles after that. Lol!
And I'm one of those people with no horses. With a few bad experiences with horses, I've wanted always to understand horses but no one could explain things. I've watched a lot in this area but your videos are some of the best suited for my needs and you know what you are doing. Great stuff. I would like to know in your words, what is with this "two-eyes looking at you" business.
Two eyes is so they are paying attention to you as the leader of the herd! Also, have you watched Klaus Hempfling, Warwick Schiller, and Dr Mark Miller? Along with Steve, these three have helped me so much more understanding horses. The true test will be when I move to where my next door neighbors have three horses in the field below where I will be living.
I'm a non-horse owner too. I have pigeons. But used to ride a lot when I was younger. Your work is interesting to watch and works so well. I just wish your video's were on a wider screen.

I don’t own horses, have zero experience with horses, have zero exposure to the horse world except driving passed some in a pasture on a road… but my experience in AKC dog obedience follows horse trading methods and I’ve been learning so much about trust building by your vids. Trust also establishes the Alpha Beta relationship with the animal and allows the animal to trust that you will always set them up for success. Dog & horse training is also more about learning to communicate, human to animal, in speaking their language & alter natural human behaviors that are off putting to the animal .
Don't own a home and enjoying the videos even though I don't own a 🏇 horse. I don't think your earnings and instructions are wasted. It's very helpful to see and to know. The number of times I've handed a horse, wow, no more.
I am from Eastern NC in the USA. I love watching all of your techniques. I was raised in Oklahoma, with horses all around me. I remember as a small kids we all would get together and help each other with the girths tight enough to hold a saddle on...took 2-3 hanging on it to get it to the point of allowing us to climb up on the fence and getting on it for our day to ride!! LOL My brother grew up to be a farrier and horse trainer so I'm somewhat familiar with some things but love watching you work with them. Thank you

A shame about missing the home show, but soon this magnificent mare will be cooperatively trailering to shows and home again, all without setbacks! The best problem trailering teaching I've ever seen. Would be ideal for green horses too. Steve, although I've seen this vid four months later, know I'm sending all best wishes for your ankle healing. As a nurse and fellow sufferer, I know how long it takes ankles to heal and how much patience and endurance it takes. If only we could sit, feet up, on a beach for 6 months, eh? Be well. The horse Virus is still deep in my veins, which is why i wann to start riding again after more than 20 years. These Videos aber really fun to wach and i learn a lot from them. I love your channel. I heard you mention that people that don't have horses watch your channel. Well, I'm one of those people. For someone who just loves horses, I don't have any involvement with them. I'm a 66 year old womanand I wonder if I should have riding lessons. I live in rural Canada and there's a small horse riding farm close by. I feel like being near horses. I thought it was a little strange watching your channel when I may never have to apply any of these horse techniques. I don't feel so strange now because you said other people like me are enjoying your horse training videos. There's so much nonsense of tv these days and this channel is so different and entertaining. I know you're usually against hand feeding, but something I've found very effective to make the horse want to leave slower is to give a high value treat for each step on the ramp going out. I was training a horse that was more or less leaping out of the trailer, but once he realized that there were treats being distributed on the way out he was able to fit 8 steps on the ramp and patiently wait for me to dig around in my pockets for a while for each treat. Took maybe 5 times down the ramp for him to learn.

I really like to watch your videos. I like your careful explainations, reasoning. But more then this the laugher, when the animal does what you ask unexpectly, sort of having a B.F.O.! A B.F.O. what is it? A blinding flash of the obovious !!! I do not own a horse but I so do respect your reasoning!!
oh, we have a mare like this! very savvy, very talented, very claustrophobic. We have spent many hours in a similar way to this getting her into the trailer. She would go in ok, and stay with hay etc, but as soon as a door was lifted, or a bar put up, all hell broke loose. we were frightened she would seriously damage herself and/or the trailer. It has been heartbreaking. She is now 10 and has never been off the property. Such a waste of a good horse. She has more or less been discarded by her official owner and lives in the field doing nothing. I am really hoping that with doing a lot more work on the basics of keeping her distance from me and moving forward in a straight line, i might at least make things safer for myself when she gets anxious.
Would love to see this same horse loaded on a trailer with just a step into it not a ramp. The horse rescue near me will only use the trailers without ramps when they go to pick up horses who are completely unknown to them. They find you need to train a horse to use the ramps but stepping up into a trailer is somehow an easier thing and they can even get some seemingly hard to load horses up in the trailer much easier then fighting the ramp. Not saying that would happen here but just wonder what she would do when the sidestepping or stretching so her back feet stayed on the ground was no longer a good way to evade loading up. Also wonder if she hates the ride or just the load. Riding in a trailer must be strenuous standing with all the motion on the roads. Ironically I have a 9 year old cat who's mom was killed by a car when the kittens were just 4 weeks old or so, they had a foster cat mom that tried to care for 2 litters but it was clearly too much as the kitten I took was very skinny. Anyway, nice and healthy now of course but even that relatively short time of just a couple weeks and she knows NO DISCIPLINE! oh my, none. And I have raised enough cats its just a profound difference when they don't learn from mom & even other siblings. Its crazy, such a smart and sassy cat you can see in her eyes she rules over all and she will attack you. While I don't allow that, I do watch carefully if anyone else is around in case she tries to take control. I made very sure my next cat was raised with her mom the full first 8 weeks...makes a huge difference. Interesting to see the same in hand raised horses.
In fairness what I noticed how things changed when you passed the rope over, even the position of the handler 👍 she was in line with the jaw line and tight to the chin
Yes, non-horse people like good horsemanship. Buck had some non-horse owners show up at one of his clinics so they could learn how to be better parents.

You and your videos have become an addiction. Had horses for less than 5 years more the 20 years ago and so wish i would have had your videos then. Lived in New Mexico and saw clinics by both Monty Walsh and i can't recall the other trainer but you've mentioned his name. Tried some of the techniques on my horses then but wasn't consistent. Makes me feel bad for the poor service i gave my horses.
nicely done.... I have to wonder every time I see a horse that won't load is what kind of a ride they had last time they were on. EVERYBODY is is going to haul a horse should have to ride in back first, and experience good and bad driving while standing and no holding on.

I would like to know in your words, what is with this "two-eyes looking at you" business.
I would say it’s to have the horse’s full attention on you.
Two eyes is so they are paying attention to you as the leader of the herd!
Also, have you watched Klaus Hempfling, Warwick Schiller, and Dr Mark Miller? Along with Steve, these three have helped me so much more understanding horses. The true test will be when I move to where my next door neighbors have three horses in the field below where I will be living.
I'm a non-horse owner too. I have pigeons. But used to ride a lot when I was younger. Your work is interesting to watch and works so well. I just wish your video's were on a wider screen.
I would like a wider screen too. A lot of the exit shots from the trailer were lost.

I don’t own horses, have zero experience with horses, have zero exposure to the horse world except driving passed some in a pasture on a road… but my experience in AKC dog obedience follows horse trading methods and I’ve been learning so much about trust building by your vids. Trust also establishes the Alpha Beta relationship with the animal and allows the animal to trust that you will always set them up for success. Dog & horse training is also more about learning to communicate, human to animal, in speaking their language & alter natural human behaviors that are off putting to the animal .

I am from Eastern NC in the USA. I love watching all of your techniques. I was raised in Oklahoma, with horses all around me. I remember as a small kids we all would get together and help each other with the girths tight enough to hold a saddle on...took 2-3 hanging on it to get it to the point of allowing us to climb up on the fence and getting on it for our day to ride!! LOL My brother grew up to be a farrier and horse trainer so I'm somewhat familiar with some things but love watching you work with them. Thank you

The horse Virus is still deep in my veins, which is why i wann to start riding again after more than 20 years. These Videos aber really fun to wach and i learn a lot from them. I like your approach and the empathy you have. Unfortunately not many coaches have that, often it is more about quantity than quality. I love your channel. I heard you mention that people that don't have horses watch your channel. Well, I'm one of those people. For someone who just loves horses, I don't have any involvement with them. I'm a 66 year old womanand I wonder if I should have riding lessons. I live in rural Canada and there's a small horse riding farm close by. I feel like being near horses. I thought it was a little strange watching your channel when I may never have to apply any of these horse techniques. I don't feel so strange now because you said other people like me are enjoying your horse training videos. There's so much nonsense of tv these days and this channel is so different and entertaining. Thanks for all you do for horses and humans. I also want to thank your wife for all she does behind the scenes.

I laughed watching how much that mare s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d in order to move it's front feet onto the trailer but keep it's back feet on the ground.

I know you're usually against hand feeding, but something I've found very effective to make the horse want to leave slower is to give a high value treat for each step on the ramp going out. I was training a horse that was more or less leaping out of the trailer, but once he realized that there were treats being distributed on the way out he was able to fit 8 steps on the ramp and patiently wait for me to dig around in my pockets for a while for each treat. Took maybe 5 times down the ramp for him to learn.

A B.F.O. what is it? A blinding flash of the obovious !!! I do not own a horse but I so do respect your reasoning!!

oh, we have a mare like this! very savvy, very talented, very claustrophobic. We have spent many hours in a similar way to this getting her into the trailer. She would go in ok, and stay with hay etc, but as soon as a door was lifted, or a bar put up, all hell broke loose. we were frightened she would seriously damage herself and/or the trailer. It has been heartbreaking. She is now 10 and has never been off the property. Such a waste of a good horse. She has more or less been discarded by her official owner and lives in the field doing nothing. I am really hoping that with doing a lot more work on the basics of keeping her distance from me and moving forward in a straight line, i might at least make things safer for myself when she gets anxious.
Would love to see this same horse loaded on a trailer with just a step into it not a ramp. The horse rescue near me will only use the trailers without ramps when they go to pick up horses who are completely unknown to them. They find you need to train a horse to use the ramps but stepping up into a trailer is somehow an easier thing and they can even get some seemingly hard to load horses up in the trailer much easier then fighting the ramp. Not saying that would happen here but just wonder what she would do when the sidestepping or stretching so her back feet stayed on the ground was no longer a good way to evade loading up.
Also wonder if she hates the ride or just the load. Riding in a trailer must be strenuous standing with all the motion on the roads.
Ironically I have a 9 year old cat who's mom was killed by a car when the kittens were just 4 weeks old or so, they had a foster cat mom that tried to care for 2 litters but it was clearly too much as the kitten I took was very skinny. Anyway, nice and healthy now of course but even that relatively short time of just a couple weeks and she knows NO DISCIPLINE! oh my, none. And I have raised enough cats its just a profound difference when they don't learn from mom & even other siblings. Its crazy, such a smart and sassy cat you can see in her eyes she rules over all and she will attack you. While I don't allow that, I do watch carefully if anyone else is around in case she tries to take control. I made very sure my next cat was raised with her mom the full first 8 weeks...makes a huge difference. Interesting to see the same in hand raised horses.

You and your videos have become an addiction. Had horses for less than 5 years more the 20 years ago and so wish i would have had your videos then. Lived in New Mexico and saw clinics by both Monty Walsh and i can't recall the other trainer but you've mentioned his name. Tried some of the techniques on my horses then but wasn't consistent. Makes me feel bad for the poor service i gave my horses.

nicely done.... I have to wonder every time I see a horse that won't load is what kind of a ride they had last time they were on. EVERYBODY is is going to haul a horse should have to ride in back first, and experience good and bad driving while standing and no holding on.
