I don’t know shit about Leagues of Legends and as a filmmaking student I was hearing so many good stuff in my classes when this came out, the reviews and when I checked out I was blown away. I don’t watch a lot of animated content, before Arcane I watched Invincible and it was amazing and I was like “I don’t see another animated show being this good for a long time for me” then Arcane came out and I was so impressed, it is a masterpiece and one of my favorite shows of all time.
I never thought that a scholar smaller than a basketball would become one of my favorite characters.
HAHA oh my god, Heimerdinger is the best, his little nose is so boop-able!
I also appreciate the fact that he is one of the few Piltoverians who tries to make things better for the Zaunites after his banishment.
I love how the difference of treatment between topside and the lanes is shown through so many details.
A telling example is how the enforcers in topside use bolas to stop criminals, while in the lanes they don't hesitate to point a firearm at children.
As for League, I stopped playing years ago but I was a top laner at the time, with Irelia as a main (before her rework).
That's an excellent catch!! It helps solidify the world-building, and though it's not necessarily vocalized that much, we see how the people in undercity are forced into squalor.
Irelia was really cool up until the life steal nerf, it was one of the things that made her a really good champion!
First two episodes are basically world building and set-up. Very well done but what follows from here goes to a completely different level. The first couple of episodes kind of get overlooked in this show but it must be appreciated how perfectly they set up everything to come. No pay-off without the set-up.
Exactly!! The first two episodes had to do a lot of heavy lifting, and that's what ultimately makes us care for the characters and what they're going through. Without a proper setup, a story will have a hard time to properly flourish!

Initially, I played Legends of Runeterra for half a year before Arcane was released. That game provides a lot of league of legends lore. Moreover, there are cinematics, called Tales of Runeterra about every region of that fantasy world. So if you want to know more about the world of Arcane, watch them. Also, there were cool campaigns in LOR about characters from Arcane, but it was temporary event, so they can only be found on the Internet. Arcane persuaded me to try League. Although my beloved character is definitely Jinx, my main is Diana, since she is jungler.
Ohhhh nice! A jungler! Eventually I’d love to learn the role. I’m a main Adc…I did ok as a support but I like how independent you can be as a jungler. You guys can change the tides of a game early on! Thank you for the recommendation on Tales of Runeterra! I’d love to learn more about the lore. We’ll also eventually watch the characters animations 😃
Arcane is, from start to finish, an amazing show. Every aspect of it, from the music to the animation, storytelling, character writing... all of it is just off the charts. We had no right to get something this powerful out of a video game adaptation, but we did, and I'm eternally grateful for it. As for what you are in for, by the time I'm writing this (seeing as you've finished the series) you are well aware that what you are in for is pain. Beautifully executed pain.
Absolutely agreed! The amount of love poured into this is so palpable, and the story delivers such beautiful heartache and joy. We honestly cannot wait for Season 2!
since you asked my main, it's zoe. she's basically a child but as a God, she causes trouble and loves to play around and is basically one of the most powerful champion according to lore
but if I ever see her in arcane, she'd probably get along very well with jinx because they both love chaos

I play league regularly, I switch between Teemo and Urgot as my mains. You may not have recognized him in the first episode, but the scientist in the underwater lair was Singed. They also didn't confirm or deny it, but the fan theory is that the one who rescued Jayce at the beginning of this episode was Ryze using his realm warp and that the stone he gave him was a used up powerless world rune.
the editing feels realy good in your reactions love it. i hope you guys watch the making off of arcane (bridging the rift) after the show its almost just as good and we never have too much of arcane

I started league of legends after watching my friends play, but league of legends has now branched off into a series of games centered around these characters and this world - Team Fight tactics, Legends of Runeterra, Wild Rift, the Ruined King and there are other games and shows in development. So there are other ways to enjoy the characters even if the League of Legends MOBA experience is not enjoyable. In fact, I think the World of Runeterra and its champions are what MCU would have been like if their characters originated from games and branched into film and entertainment.
I have yet to play the other games aside from the “regular” game modes! But I’ll definitely give them a go. Thank you so much for your insightful comment and the support 😃

One thing to bear in mind is that this show is telling its own story and isn't beholden to the LoL game. It's doing its own thing with the characters, a bit like how the MCU is different from Marvel comics. Jinx and Victor especially are very different from their game counterparts.
yeah...they are different YET. It is still way before anything in League, so there is a good chance they'll turn in the same directions.

It's good to know that the show is taking some liberties, just so it can have its own identity while staying faithful to the core of the game. This show is absolutely fantastic, and the characters so nuanced, we can't wait to see where this is all gonna go!
This show gets better and better
In retrospect (spoiler for people's motivations), giving up the kids' location was a pretty great move from Silco. Two outcomes: Either they don't find them and Vander does nothing which weakens his position by making him look scared and pathetic exactly how he's framed at the end of the bar scene, or they do find the kids and in that situation, Vander has to act, Marcus and the enforcers probably end up dead at that point (I mean, were they expecting to escape from the lane alive? Marcus is a moron who's lucky he didn't find the kids), considering Marcus' relatively high status (he's not sheriff but he's probably second in command among the enforcers) war is inevitable and Vander's position might not be compromised in that case, but Silco still gets his war and he gets to force Vander to take part in it. It's a win/win for him. The only "good" outcome would be Vander having enough sense to keep Marcus & co alive as hostages so he can defuse the situation but even that isn't guaranteed to work (and you can be sure Silco would send someone to murder them to force the hostilities so it gives him more opportunities anyway).

I quit in season 7 but I was a hecarim and gragas main, but I played and owned all champs back then with over 100k ip/blue essence. Came back for a month for Nunus rework and mained him for that, best rework in my opinion.

@@OfficialMediaKnights a few reasons haha, the laptop I was playing on was kinda outdated already so my fps wasn’t that good, but I really just had an addiction to it almost, I’d play atleast 12 hours a day and when I wasn’t playing I was watching pros or pro matches to get better. Was doing that for about 2 years straight and got really good but realized it was taking too much out of the other aspects of my life, and wasn’t healthy. So now if I hop on I’ll do some arams and call it a day lol.
In League I mainly play either top or mid, so my favorites are Sion or Yorick for top and Lux or Ziggs for mid.
Btw when the two of you finish the show, then I can highly recommend the "Bridging the Rift" on their youtube channel (League of Legends that is). It's basically 5 episodes of amazingly made behinds the scenes for the entirety of Arcane's production.

Also those are some awesome champions! I like how you got some really cool more melee style champs and then Ziggs and Lux. Lux’s ability set is freaking amazing. I know I’ve had my fare share of deaths to her when she’s in the support role. I use Samira so after I use up my W a well placed stun means probable death for me until I at least my second full set!

The world building and character introductions/character building in this episode did such a good job of laying the groundwork for everything that is to come in the next episodes. My favourite animated series of all time.

I loved this series, didn't even know it was based on League until I had seen like 5 episodes, tried LoL for like 2 hours a long time ago but the community was toxic on a whole new level so I didn't stay for long 🙂

Yeah haha the community can definitely be toxic at times. Just go in and mute chat from the get go. Learn how to play and enjoy yourself. It’s the only way around the toxicity unfortunately. The game is really good but you really have to play with your own squad to avoid the toxic behavior
I have a feeling you guys are love the whole run! The show does a surprisingly great job of tackling things like class warfare, gang warfare, societal injustice, trauma and effects of cyclical violence and hurt. Never was a big LoL player but I easily count this show as a top 10 of all time for me. Your editing is great and you guys rock!

What makes this series great is it is not in fact a League of Legends adaptation or lore expansion, it could`ve been just that but Christian Linke and Alex Yee understand that would be an insult to the fans. No, this is a Greek tragedy loosely based on some "League" champions` deep cut lore and the character portrayals and relationships are different. Viktor`s a villain in the games and also a robot.(Playing into Evil Russian stereotypes which this series thankfully avoids.)Jayce is far more arrogant and unlikeable in the games. Heimerdinger`s mostly the same but is not as responsible with his experiments all the time in canon although he is better in this respect than his assistants gone rogue Singed and Viktor(Also absentminded on occasion which makes sense for a 307 Year Old) . Vi and Jinx were theorized to be sisters for years because of their shared Zaunite origins, punk aesthetics ,unnatural hair colors, problem following rules and love for violence but Riot only confirmed it(As well as Jinx`s real name Powder)recently. Plus, a lot of champions who are archenemies tend to be siblings and many players saw their taunting of each other as sisterly banter. The characters are far more flat in the games in general with hints of tragic backstories limited to deep cut lore, special champion interactions and flashbacks that are very vague and often of questionable canonicity.
My mains are Morgana and Karma. Been playing well over a decade but due to the toxicity of the community I only play ARAM mode now.

YAAAY Another Sam main! Heimerdinger is a nightmare to deal with as Sam. Specially on those early levels. Same goes for Lux and her insane range with that Q+Ult. Gotta get better with Jinx I feel like for some reason I don’t manage to find her tempo. Caitlyn and Miss Fortune work best for me when I try to go for range 😃

That is very true. Sadly, it's very hard to view something like war dispassionately, especially if you've gone through what Vi has gone through. Sometimes an uprising is the only way to attain freedom, because, at times, diplomacy fails...

Theyre organized thematically to help give anyone a digestible way to consume all the content (cuz there's alot!). LoL has opened the last couple of years' seasons with a jawdropping cinematic to hype the players for a year's worth of gaming. I'm including the original Official Teaser Trailer from 2009 for the launch of their beta just so you can compare the production quality to how the cinematics are made now.
I think it also goes without saying that those who have played this will probably have heard of these cinematics to some degree. In my personal opinion, I would save these for last in your viewing to allow you to soak in everything else the world has to offer first! But it's here if you want to jump right into them:

@@OfficialMediaKnights The Second playlist I will send you will be a compilation of all the Runeterra related mobile gaming cinematics. They're unique and fun, but also tell their own side stories within the world of Runeterra. If you've played either Legends of Runeterra (the card game) or Wild Rift (the mobile version of LoL) you might've come across these.
As I understand it, League lore has been that of 'soft canon' - a sortof flexible interpretation of the lore is allowed through its different IPs, including these games. Someone can come correct me if I'm wrong - but I do prefer keeping the lore sortof contained to the game they're attached to (Legends of Runeterra has this, Wild Rift tells it differently, maybe). Some stuff lines up to what's been read in lore, some, maybe not so much/is too vague to confirm it lining up to 'base' lore. I haven't played these games too closely too, so I'm not sure how true this all is.
Regardless, this playlist will contain lots of very good insight on different regions and champions. You'll see that I've split it from Tales of Runeterra cinematics to then WIld Rift cinematics. Tales of Runeterra are all quite interesting and usually tell a short story from a region, while the Wild Rift cinematics focus more on showing off the champions they're reintroducing to mobile gameplay:

You might've heard that Riot Games was first a music company that just 'happened' to make a game - it's simply put that Riot has put out some amazing music over the years, but they were definitely a game company first (but their music simply kicks ass to be regarded as another thing on its own).
On this playlist, I first listed Get Jinxed and Enemy, two tie-ins to Arcane. Get Jinxed, being the release trailer for Jinx into LoL and I believe Fortiche's first animation with Riot Games. The rest are all very good watches as well, my personal fav being 'As We Fall'. There is one I purposely skipped over as I think it fit in bettter with the next playlist after this one:

I would recommend watching "Call of Power | - - - - Cinematic - League of Legends" before EP 3 as the cinematic is about what Heimerdinger fears. Don't worry it doesn't spoil anything or reveal any ARCANE characters, with the exception of people speculating that - - - - is the guy that gives Jayce the stone.
If not, then It's 1 of the first ones to watch after ARCANE.
I do think it's a good idea to slot it in between EP 2 and EP 3 though. It's only 5:30 min long.

I main Malzahar, but I don’t expect him for several seasons in Arcane. They’re more likely to start moving to other well-populated areas first.
A good show to react to would be Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. It starts slow so it can build a world but it’s wildly character-driven. It has a built-in reaction fan base and it’s over 100 episodes to keep people coming back.
Ahhh Malzahar! He’d be a great addition to Arcane. I do hope each season focuses on the origin of different characters like this first season. And maybe an over-arching storyline between all of the seasons. Thank you for recommending Agents of SHIELD we’ll definitely add it to the list 😄😃

Viktor and Pyke is my 2 favorite characters in lol. So when they introduced him in Arcane I was super hype. Season 2 gonna have a lot to cover. I honestly don't see Viktor getting his Glorious Evolution till season 3.

@@OfficialMediaKnights There's no news on a release date yet but they said they want to take it slow. I believe they're taking a cinematic universe approach. There's a Q&A for Arcane recently like a month or 2 ago. You could read it. Don't want to spoil anything.

This is my least favorite episode (they're building...). So I give my recommendations here and I will comment on "Arcane" later. Sorry if you've seen everything already because the shows I'd like to see you react to are really obvious choices (we never know).
2 movies:
- JOKER (I've never managed to watch a full Batman movie because I find them so boring but "Joker" is... something else!);
- ARRIVAL (it's about... just watch it).
6 Series (none are sci-fi/supernatural shows, which you seem to really enjoy, but I guarantee they're all excellent):
- FARGO is an anthology series, so you don't have to watch all seasons. Black comedy. Everyone prefers season 2 but my favorite is the first one;
- THE QUEEN'S GAMBIT. So much suspense. Very entertaining;
- EUPHORIA. I thought I was too old for this teen series but I really liked it and the UA-camrs emphasize the cinematographic, technical and artistic qualities of the show. As filmmakers, you might find some interesting stuffs in there;
- Some people on Earth haven't seen BREAKING BAD and BETTER CALL SAUL yet. Good for them: they can react to these essential masterpieces and gain many new subscribers ;
- BLACK MIROR. OK, this one is a kind of si/fi, I guess. Every episode is a unique story so you can watch just one of them (my favorites are 1x03 and 3x01).
