  • As we all know, electric guitars have always been the coolest instrument out there, especially in the late 50's when they were still a relatively new thing to the masses... but they were getting more popular so how do you make your cool instrument even cooler than the rest? Order it from the factory with all gold hardware of course! That is exactly what we have here - a 1958 Fender Stratocaster with all gold hardware from the factory, in totally original condition! This instrument is absolutely top-notch in all ways, and they're quite rare - as Trevor puts it in the video, its basically a Mary Kaye in sunburst finish, at half the price! Since we had our friend John Radebaugh in the shop recently, we wanted to get his take on this guitar so we pulled out the 1964 Fender Deluxe Amp and had him take them for a spin!

    That is a beautiful Strat! Trevor is right, this Stratocaster with gold hardware is basically a Mary Kaye, but instead of Blonde, it's in 3 color sunburst! The pickups sound bright and crisp, and it kinda gets into Telecaster territory in the bridge pickup! John is a great player! Thanks ECG for sharing this beautiful instrument! Oh, and the Deluxe sounds mighty fine too! Good ole Blackface circuitry!

    The intro music into this is SO good. Those guitars are just killer.

    If there’s a guitarist out there who would take compassion of those who wanna learn that first solo, take time out of their lives to bless us with at least a gist of that first solo🎼 🥺🙏🏽

    Essentially, the first year for the cherry sunburst, and last year for maple neck (in the original Fender line). You can see one of these on the cover of The Ventures second album (IIRC) which I used to stare at for perhaps hours at a time back around 1960-1961. I currently own a Fender '60s Original Series Stratocaster with a rather chunky neck, and it is, acoustically, the best sounding Stratocaster (best Fender, period) I have ever played.
    Out of all the vintage Stratocasters, the '58 is what I would most love to own (my very first guitar, was a 1954; second was a 1964). This one was spectacular.

    Amazing guitar, great sounding amp and a superb player. This was one of the best so far.
    Many thanks for sharing this. And thanks to JohnnyBoy (yeah, like we're mates an' all...) for getting you this deal.
    Cheers

    the wood seems to be premium on this one! the hardware being gold makes sense on this guitar.

    If that cable is in original condition, could you measure the length and capacitance, please? I'm really curious to know what cables of the era were like.

    '58s are my all-time favorite Stratocasters. For several years, these were the only cherry sunburnt, maple neck combinations ...
    The cherry in this one is still quite strong. Listen to that back pickup ... Not a BIT of ear-splitting ice pick spike anywhere to be heard.
    Check out the cover of The Ventures second album ... There's one of these, and it's Precision Bass mate ... And that Deluxe amp is just right and wants desperately to come live at my house. DO NOT give it my address, because I certainly have enough amplifiers ... or so my wife thinks ...

      Tonetwisters I believe 1958 was the only year the pickups received a few extra windings. My tech winds and he offers a ‘58 set which he states is overwound slightly.

      me too. Special alder batch of wood and my favorite year of pickups. They have a fullness that the other years don't have except into 59'

    John Lennon played an amp like this one in '68-'69: you can see it in the Revolution video, although it's in playback there, but you can hear it a lot on the White Album! :)

    When you say that the guitar has been really cared for and has no fret-ware, I would suggest that the owner didn't play it much; 'cause that's the only way you aren't going to have any fret-ware...certainly didn't wasn't a working musician....unless he wore gloves when he played it.

    How does it work buying from a place like this? Do serious buyers go in with independent appraisals? How do you know they aren’t completely ripping you off??

    So this guitar is of the vintage that predates when the blade switch had the five settings?

    • @zippy-zappa-zeppo-zorba-etc
      @zippy-zappa-zeppo-zorba-etc 5 років тому

      I don't think they started putting a 5 position switch on strats til the mid 70's

    • @Shred_The_Weapon
      @Shred_The_Weapon 5 років тому

      I think it was sooner than that. During the extended cut of the Woodstock film when Jimi Hendrix can be heard playing that surf instrumental, you can tell with a discernible ear that he played part of it with his Stratocaster in 2nd position.

    • @robertpendergrast8384
      @robertpendergrast8384 5 років тому +1

      @@Shred_The_WeaponYeah, before five ways, you had to balance the switch between settings if you wanted to get out of phase. Jimi was the master!✌️

    • @Shred_The_Weapon
      @Shred_The_Weapon 5 років тому +1

      That explains a couple of things. Would you venture that Fender redesigned the switch partially because of what Hendrix did, in order to standardize it?

      I was confused too... 6M? I'm no expert, but it doesn't seem to make any sense. Even Greenie's burst was less than that...
      Or maybe I know even less about this stuff than I thought.

    No need for reverb.
