Very inspiring, Aaron. Hope to hear you play next time I'm in Seattle. The gang at ECG are the best. Jay even had me do a Pick of the Day video on my last visit!
Never knew fender used korina. I doubt my eye can tell the difference... but this sucker has one hell of a voice, nice. And cool amp too, really cool pieces
Well. I have to admit that I was spectical! Bad kidding aside ... It does sound a bit different than most of the Catastrasters that have been presented here, not quite that full-out Strat sound. But what an axe! And what a rig! Great Aaron playing, as usual! There were 65 thumbs up on this when I opened up the page; but since I graduated HS in '65, I will leave it there! Thanks for another fab demo, boys ...
If you think that’s rare, try finding a Sassafras Strat! Eric Johnson’s early ‘54 Strat, “Virginia” was made of Sassafras. Apparently early on in the prototyping phase (Jan - May/June of 1954), George Fullerton and Freddie Tavares (the guys who actually designed the Stratocaster - Leo’s main contribution was the tremolo bridge design) cut some bodies primarily out of Pine, Ash and some Alder, but they also did one or two (that I am aware of) out of Sassafras. I have read that they MIGHT have done one or two Poplar and Mahogany as well, but I have never been able to verify that with anything solid. This ‘63 Korina is amazing. It’s got a little more mid-rangey “honk” than the Ash Strats of the same timeframe. I usually prefer a two tone burst on Strats, but that 3-tone looks really nice. I’ll bet it was a show stopper before it racked up so many miles.
I remember when I visited a guitarstore in 1988 in Oakland there was a 1963 Strat which did not had the yellow part of the sunburst finish on it. Very rare, the shopowner told me. Looks a bit like this Korina guitar to me. In those days vintage guitars didn't exist. It were just used guitars and the pricetag was 2.500 US Dollars. Unbelievable nowadays...
I think I have a body of a strat that's made out of that wood not sure but it has on the body neck cavity 63 and some other letters and numbers I can't tell what they are
It only makes a difference when you play it unplugged. Wood choice matters for looks, strength, and durability, and that's about it. Contrary to what you said, the electronics and the player are the keys to how any electric guitar sounds.
@@peachmelba1000 I am a professional level player who has been playing for 46 years now and I can tell that, without any doubt whatsoever, wood makes a huge difference in tone plugged up or not.
@@donsaxon1169 I thought the same, also as a player of many years, but once I started building guitars I relinquished that belief. This video ua-cam.com/video/n02tImce3AE/v-deo.html is a pretty exhaustive refutation of the idea of tone wood (as it relates to electric guitars).
It’s White Limba, not Korina. Korina is the trade name that Gibson gave to White Limba as a marketing move for the’58-‘59 Flying V & Explorer models. In the’50’s, everything was about blonde colored wood for furniture, so Gibson chose it for the new guitars in ‘58 & ‘59. There’s also Black Limba, which has dark streaks in it.
A korina strat ??? And here I thought Gibson were the ones to "introduce" it on the Flying V, Explorer etc...Then again Fender did build a few mahogany models...So...
When an old guitar has so much wear and tear on its body, it is almost certain that guitar is going to sound great. There is a reason the ex owners played it so much.
Was the employee drunk when he put that "original contour body decal on"? Sorry but I don't find anything special in the the sound of this strat, but I'm not in the market for snake oil.
There is an invention called a scale that you put an item on top of ie . a guitar on and it tells you EXACTLY how much "the weigh's nice" is. Comprende?!. To much reverb ! It takes away from the true tone of the guitar . In my opinion.
That volume knob placement on a Strat.....Makes it a deal breaker for me as far as owning one. It's just in the way. Props to people who can play them because they sound great. I'll stick with my Les Paul.
looks as fake as fake can get.. fake as Mccready's, its all the wear, isn't it odd they all wear the same, different conditions players but they all wore out the same.. so FAKE
I have some g & l strats that sound fantastic without the fender $$$$$ logo although i do confess that I bought every Hellecasters model issued back in the day cause I just love the guys playing- still have them and all are autographed to boot including Jerry Donahue
That interpretation of « the wind cries Mary » was something out of this world. Awesome 👏
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Agreed, lots of feeling in his playing
Man those '62-'63 Stratocasters cannot be beat. That neck pup sounds heavenly.
I'm in love with this version of wind cries Mary. Absolutely amazing and mesmerizing. Thank you very much.
I think it’s usually hard to tell how good a guitar sounds through UA-cam. But omg that guitar sounds amazing
Another next level demo! The reverb on that amp is especially good - very present!
Aaron and this guitar are made for eachother so glad he was on it. Shocked he didn’t take it home with him. Love it.
I really wish I could have! Haha. It's a special one for sure. Thanks for the kind words!
The most crisp and bright strat I have ever heard great playing as usual from Aron thank ECG good one👍👍🤙
The wind cries Mary best cover ever just here! 🔥
Thank you!!! Glad you enjoyed it!!
Incredible tone, amazing playing
Thank You Aaron.
Thank You Emerald City
🙏😊
Sounded great! Very chimey sound. It REALLY shone through with sweet single notes. 🤤
#aaronhiebert Certainly one of your best efforts! Really well played! Keep them coming and I'll keep listening! Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks! You've watched them all so that means a lot! This is a special guitar that I really connected with. Always fun when that happens.
Really cool guitar and couldn't get a better demo of it. Just love Aaron's playing. Cheers, guys!
Thank you!!! Glad you enjoyed it!!
I love bright Strats. I only keep 1 in the collection but whenever I hear one like this that's super crisp I always think of adding another...

I'll take it.... and the amp.
Again oh my to Aaron!
Thank you!!!
That, ladies and gentlemen, is fantastic tone.
Sounds beautiful. My father just had his 63’ appraised and was told it was Korina wood. He never made it sound that good though.
i miss your pick of the day series
Same
Best demo. Fave version of Fave Jimi. Thanks.
Man, I could listen to Aaron demo strats for hours.
Thank you!!! :)
Don't mind me....just came by to see Aaron jam!
:)
Nice!! When summer comes around. A little Keith Urban.
I knew i recognized that. There was a great soundcheck vid on here of that song.
Gorgeous instrument
Best bf strat sound so far. So tasty playing..
I’m pissed that I live in Spokane and that guitar was so close to me and I never knew about it. You’re killing me ECG
Never knew fender used korina. I doubt my eye can tell the difference... but this sucker has one hell of a voice, nice.
And cool amp too, really cool pieces
Unbelievable...holy grail tone..great player..im not crying you're crying lol
Nice Work! WooF!!
unreal instrument and playing, just wow, there are things money just cant buy :)

The smell of a fender tube amp as the tubes are hot smells so good. something about that is nice.
"Another hot summer is come aaaaand gone... And I don't know why it always ends this waayyyyy..."
My Warmoth strat is made from korina. Ron Ellis SRV pickups, sounds amazing.

When Summer Comes Around. Nice. Gotta love Keith Urban. Nice strat but I still favor alder.
I got news for the comment section, 95% of this guy's tone is in the touch.
Thank you. I can't get over how many players still think wood matters all that much in electric guitars, beyond being pretty, strong, and durable.
Wouaw !
It sounds almost like SRV strats and albums ...
Is that a brazilian rosewood fingerboard ??
Fender used Brazilian rosewood on all their guitars until 1966 when they switched to Indian rosewood.
Laminated brazilian rosewood fretboard, I think
ehm no...can't sounds like Srv albums. Cause it's KORINA :D :D :D :D
The fade on that last note..........
i hate to be the guy that says it sounds different over regular strat over youtube at home but damn it sounds amazing, korina or not!
Heard some slow dancing in a burning room
Little thinner sounding in a good way More mid hi's or something Sounds great
Can you guys please use the green Cali tweed in one of your demos 🤘
Sounds great what pickups are in there?
Incredible! What strings do you typically put on these vintage guitars? Very curious!
It sounds like it has more Mids!!
Great sounding axe...but it needs a refret job..6105s would be perfect fit!
Didn't they make some 70's thinline tele's with korina too?

All through the 80,s vintage guitars were in full swing.
ridiculous. It was probably a refin. Also the vintage market was alive and well in the early 70s.
Did Paul McCartney stop by while he was in town?
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
How much did it go for
Beautiful sound………how much?
I think I have a body of a strat that's made out of that wood not sure but it has on the body neck cavity 63 and some other letters and numbers I can't tell what they are
That must be a very expensive guitar.
And once again proof that the wood a guitar is made out of means EVERYTHING . Pickups , neck, hardware etc.. all come in a very distant second.
It only makes a difference when you play it unplugged. Wood choice matters for looks, strength, and durability, and that's about it. Contrary to what you said, the electronics and the player are the keys to how any electric guitar sounds.

What does “the weight is really right”?
Fine guitar though.

Wahooooow Stratuday
STRATuesday

Very nice, but I bet this guy could make an out of tune ukulele plugged into an AM radio sound good.
What was the 2nd song he played after wind cry’s Mary
Till Summer Comes Around by Keith Urban
@@aaronhiebert4745 thank you !
super rare OMG only 63

I was gonna do a ..I didn't know Dave Grohl plays guitar joke ....but he Does play guitar 🤭
Eres un ídolo SEXTINDER.Uno siempre en mi corazón,hermosa, amorh, elecciones, culturales.❤️ Son unos de los mejores conciertos.
give you $10,000 for it!
One demo where someone doesn’t just riff on Hendrix the whole time would be nice
That Low E sting intonation is way off!! magnetic pull set the mother up!!
That fretboard is just paper thin.
Was the employee drunk when he put that "original contour body decal on"? Sorry but I don't find anything special in the the sound of this strat, but I'm not in the market for snake oil.
Reason they stuck with alder
That decal (tranfer) is way wrong. As the owner of a 57#-18250 and a 60#53271. I don't find anything special about this strat.

I agree about the reverb. From reading comments I thought I was the only one not liking all the reverb. It's too much.
It's 2022 and we're still pretending wood makes a difference in sound.

Overrated and probably overpriced.
