There's the thing. It's a remake. Aladdin is a legendary film. No one, I repeat no one, could be a legitimately sane person and expect this to stack up, in anyway, with the original movie. I agree with most of your points, but personally, I feel like while your points on Speechless are true, I think the major issue is how they executed it in the movie instead of the song itself. If I had to give it a rating, I'd say a 6.5-8/10. If you want to see the movie, try as much as you can to NOT compare it to the original, as hard as that is.

A funny story. I went to korea during July last year to visit my best friend who moved back there. Her name is Yoonseo but I call her Yoon. The 2019 Aladdin was in theatres and I really had no desire to see it after seeing the trailers for lion king, but Yoon insisted since she watched it once and loved it. So I went with her on her 2nd time, trying not to be a downer for expecting the movie to suck right away but also not expecting anything amazing out of it. Turns out I ended up liking it a lot more than I thought I would. Even found myself singing along in the songs. When we got home to her house I asked her if she's ever seen the original. She said no. I said "Oh boy, we're gonna watch it right now." So I put it on for us, her little brother joined us and we watched the 1992 Aladdin together. She enjoyed it, we sang along in the musical numbers and stuff and in the end she told me "I liked it, but I prefer the new one." …I didn't strangle her because I realized in the end that they were the same movie. The new one just felt more like a DLC. Like it was just adding new stuff to what was already there. And especially since she adores Jasmine's new song and Jasmine as a whole, I could get why she'd like the live action one more. She's korean, she didn't grow up with the disney classics like I did, it was the ghibli classics that made up her childhood more so nostalgia had no effect on her. I also noticed that the disney remakes, especially Aladdin, were very popular in korea. There was lots of advertising and merchandising, and the soundtrack was also very popular. So in a sense I'm still happy that those people in korea and other parts of the world who most definitely never got to see the original animated versions get to experience a bit of it now like us in the west did (even if all disney really wants with them is their money). Plus I can see how since they're often surrounded by anime, something in live action can seem like a breath of fresh air. Just telling a bit of my experience with the movie in korea.
Now all that's left is the "live-action" Lion King. While Aladdin is significantly better than 2017's Beauty and The Beast and 2019's Dumbo, I believe The Lion King is the remake that will deliver on all fronts.

(Which was also another scrapped song from the original move)
I really love both Aladdin movies especially the remake, I've seen it twice and I still love it, the cast was awesome (except Jafar) but Naomi Scott perfected the part of Jasmine, and I have to say it Speechless was really memorable in my opinion.
In the "Friend Like Me" number, both the Genie and the Carpet do the Carlton dance from Will Smith's comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990). The name Jasmine comes from the Persian 'Yasameen,' which means "gift of God Will Smith's first Disney Movie. Dev Patel, Avan Jogia, and Riz Ahmed were considered to play Aladdin. Production designer Gemma Jackson drew inspiration from Moroccan, Persian, and Turkish cultures, Victorian paintings, and Iznik ceramics for the design of Agrabah. Aladdin is a male given Arabic name which means "nobility of faith" or "nobility of creed/ religion." Naomi Scott is the second Indian actress to play Jasmine, after Karen David in Once Upon a Time (2011). This live-action remake of Aladdin (1992) gives more detailed information about Jafar's obscure past. Jasmine and Dalia are flowers' names. This is Guy Ritchie's first PG rated film. Famous Italian actor and comedian Gigi Proietti, who voiced the Genie in the 1992 version, was brought back to voice the Sultan in the remake. Aladdin and Jasmine got married at the end, but in the original Aladdin (1992) they only ended up engaged. They didn't get married until the third and final installment, Aladdin and the King of Thieves (1996). The Genie and his family live on a lamp-shaped boat. The boat represents Genie's own wish for freedom and to go anywhere he wishes, and its shape represents his previous residence. During the Harvest dance scene, one of Aladdin's dance moves mirrors Michael Jackson's dance move for Michael Jackson: Remember the Time (1992). Even though he does not look a day over fifty, Genie seen at the start and end of the film is over a thousand years old. Mena Massoud was born a year before Aladdin (1992) and Naomi Scott was born a year after it. When Jasmine is playing the instrument in Aladdin's home, there's a hidden Mickey around the sound hole. After she's done playing and removes her hand, you see it briefly before she places it back down on the ground. Mena Massoud (Aladdin) was thought to have been born in 1992, the same year as the release of the original Aladdin (1992), but this was proven wrong closer to the film's release when Massoud himself officially confirmed that he was actually born in 1991, one year before the release of original film. Aladdin (2019) has the highest audience score (Rotten Tomatoes) out of all the Disney remakes, gaining a 94% rating from audiences despite its 56% rating by critics.
It was pretty much a running joke where I would point out multiple background characters and say, "He'd make a better Jafar. Him too. Him too." This movie is passable save for this abysmal change where Aladdin pretty much confesses with a huge grin that he's not going to use his third wish to set the Genie free, but instead use that wish to keep up appearances. In the original, Aladdin was frustrated and said that he couldn't use his third wish to set the Genie free _yet_ because that would mean the Genie stops providing the magical aide to keep up appearances for his first prince wish. I didn't even understand the reason for the change, but it ended up completely destroying Aladdin's character and any sense of friendship the two were supposed to have. Why on earth at that point would Will Smith Genie even try to help Aladdin? At that point, he'd have probably tried to do what he could to get someone else to take his lamp to stop Jafar.
I Honestly Like This Film It's Not Bad Not Great But Decent Also Speechless Is A Pretty Cool Song. Sure It's Is The Same As The Original But I'm Okay With It.
I’ll admit that finally making the freed genie being the narrator(as the original ending was supposed to be but was cancelled due to budget cuts) was nice. And just like the movie (Contrary to most popular belief), unneeded and unnecessary but good/just alright
I can easily say here, until we get the remakes people actually want (Atlantis, Treasure Plante, Black Cauldron, etc.), this is the best of the Disney Remakes. While still falling in the "unnecessary" category, it's not a bad film and it does work as a fun thing to watch. But only for those that are fans of Will Smith or that are into the idea of seeing these animated movies in a live action aesthetic. But for me, this is the one i will actually considered worth a watch.
if I were to have done this movie, I would start in the middle of the story and reveal the truth of Genie and the magic after Aladdin and Jasmine meet for the first time. Make Jasmine the main character and have her discover the lie, but falls in love with Aladdin's true self anyway.
I agree I give it a 6/10 as well, I would’ve given it a 5/10, but Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott and will Smith are what save this movie and make it alright
Jafar in the original was more cartoony stereotypical baddie. This one is more subtle in his acting but still a stereotypical bad guy plot, which makes him less interesting. Also his voice threw me off because it’s so soft but I always imagined jafar’s live action voice would sound as deep as the cartoon. The only thing I liked about this version was the hint of his past:SPOILER- as a thief because other than his magic he was kind of weak. Him being a thief I believe made him more Cunning and a match for Aladdin since he did indeed steal from him using his skills. Other than that, yeah jafar was a let down
In hindsight, I found this Aladdin to be much more lighthearted in tone than the 1992 original. I know that sounds silly but if you watch closely the original has some effective dark moments.
Aladdin (2019) Story: 7/10 (Downgraded from the original, the directing was iffy, & certain additions to the story are pointless) Special Effects: 8/10 (Use of color {or lack of} bothered me, and of course, the Genie definitely didn't look good, at all) Characters: 8/10 (Only exception was Jafar, he definitely wasn't good and Dalia is kind of annoying/pointless, but Hakim was a nice addition) Songs: 8/10 (The songs are not as good as the original {even though I was on the edge of my seat through Prince Ali}, and Speechless while good, was really really forgettable) Total: 7.75/10 => 8/10
Just saw this movie. And as soon I get home, I see this. And everything you said is exactly what I thought of this movie. Now time to see Endgame for the 3rd time.
I know people complain about hearing this a lot but it's true! You just can't live up to Robin Williams' comedic genius! Even Homer Simpson's genie, obviously not as good as Williams, but even that one is also better than Will Smith's genie!
Robin Williams will ALWAYS be the Genie to me. But Will Smith surprised me ALOT in this film. I hate the DJ Khalid version of Friend Like Me at the ending credits but it's a guilty pleasure.
The costumes and the production design were lovely, and I love the portrayal of Jasmine and making her more dynamic here. But I didn’t like what they did with Jafar, he has such a dull personality here, the film editing for the music sections isn’t that great. And the cgi is not that great, the magic and the genie’s humor translates much better in the animated one.
After seeing Dumbo and Beauty and the Beast this one feels like a better improvement over those two easily. This is a 8/10 for me. It's inferior to the animated version for sure but on its own its actually solid.
I've just seen a the live-action and I'm proud to say I was pleasantly surprise and is definitely one of the better then some of the other live-action remakes and actually gives me high Hope for these movies.
Couldn’t disagree more about the look of the film. I don’t know where you got colorless and lifeless but I thought this was one of the most colorful live action films I’ve seen in a while. You’re acting like the film looks as dull as Solo: A Star Wars Story when in fact it does not.
I really love you highlighting the fact NAOMI SCOTT KILLED this role. SHE made me feel ALL the things. AnDC to think sh ed was a power ranger before this is WILD😂😂😂. SHES about to become a huge star I can feel it.

I really love both Aladdin movies especially the remake, I've seen it twice and I still love it, the cast was awesome (except Jafar) but Naomi Scott perfected the part of Jasmine, and I have to say it Speechless was really memorable in my opinion.
Yeah, I don't know what he was talking about. Speechless was the best part of the film.
@@winters_revolt Yup.
Why is everyone overglorifying Speechless?! It is boring!
@@KidSnivy69 Because that is your opinion.
@@winters_revolt Well public opinion needs more substance
In the "Friend Like Me" number, both the Genie and the Carpet do the Carlton dance from Will Smith's comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990).
The name Jasmine comes from the Persian 'Yasameen,' which means "gift of God
Will Smith's first Disney Movie.
Aladdin is a male given Arabic name which means "nobility of faith" or "nobility of creed/ religion."
Naomi Scott is the second Indian actress to play Jasmine, after Karen David in Once Upon a Time (2011).
Completely disagree about the remake being a screen for screen shot of the original. It is not!!!
Or it should have been called Jasmine
This should be called "Criterion Ali"
Lion King is gonna be a shot for shot remake
Actually the filmmakers implied they're going to expand on it. I got the sense in the trailer they'll give more story/expansion to Scar, for instance.
@@JoyStar I hope so
Fricking loved the skit at the beginning, man. :) That was creative as heckk
Your montage/parody of the opening merchant scene was better than the entirety of the opening of this movie.
I Honestly Like This Film It's Not Bad Not Great But Decent Also Speechless Is A Pretty Cool Song. Sure It's Is The Same As The Original But I'm Okay With It.
Love your introduction to this video.
I personally liked Jasmine's handmaiden and I thought Jasmine's new song Speechless was really good.
The beginning was awesome
if I were to have done this movie, I would start in the middle of the story and reveal the truth of Genie and the magic after Aladdin and Jasmine meet for the first time. Make Jasmine the main character and have her discover the lie, but falls in love with Aladdin's true self anyway.
I agree I give it a 6/10 as well, I would’ve given it a 5/10, but Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott and will Smith are what save this movie and make it alright
i have to disagree because i thought it was a great movie to me in my opinion but i respect everyone's opinion
Other than that, yeah jafar was a let down
WHERE IS THE FUN IN SUBTLE VILLAINS!?
Christopher Robin is the best so called remake it’s more of a continuation so to speak
Ok, I like the original Aladdin, but this one is good as a live action version, as Will Smith is more down to earth with his performance
Where is the fun in a toned down performance?!
This film might not be as good as the original but it is a decent film
In hindsight, I found this Aladdin to be much more lighthearted in tone than the 1992 original. I know that sounds silly but if you watch closely the original has some effective dark moments.
I'm gonna be honest, Aladdin (2019) is really good!
Aladdin (2019)
Story: 7/10 (Downgraded from the original, the directing was iffy, & certain additions to the story are pointless)
Special Effects: 8/10 (Use of color {or lack of} bothered me, and of course, the Genie definitely didn't look good, at all)
Characters: 8/10 (Only exception was Jafar, he definitely wasn't good and Dalia is kind of annoying/pointless, but Hakim was a nice addition)
Songs: 8/10 (The songs are not as good as the original {even though I was on the edge of my seat through Prince Ali}, and Speechless while good, was really really forgettable)
Total: 7.75/10 => 8/10
@@deanfalkynI like the whole new world in remake and friend like me
The best part of the entire remake
Was the fucking parrot
I'll stick with the original!
Once Upon a Time did a surprisingly good job at recreating the spirit of Aladdin, and made the relationship of Aladdin and Jasmine just adorable!
Aladdin took an Upper Decker in my toilet!!
Just saw this movie. And as soon I get home, I see this. And everything you said is exactly what I thought of this movie. Now time to see Endgame for the 3rd time.
4th time for me. And second time seeing John Wick
You forgot to mention character derailments, too.
Who agrees Robin Williams is a better Genie than Will Smith?
Um, I think everybody
Same
I know people complain about hearing this a lot but it's true!
I think that Robin Williams only beats Will by a smidge
The costumes and the production design were lovely, and I love the portrayal of Jasmine and making her more dynamic here. But I didn’t like what they did with Jafar, he has such a dull personality here, the film editing for the music sections isn’t that great. And the cgi is not that great, the magic and the genie’s humor translates much better in the animated one.
After seeing Dumbo and Beauty and the Beast this one feels like a better improvement over those two easily. This is a 8/10 for me. It's inferior to the animated version for sure but on its own its actually solid.
I don't know about you, but to me, Agrabah looked more Persian than Arabian
That intro was fantastic
Loved Aladdin.
I see the fact that the story is the same as the cartoon is a good thing for me, because i can relive the magic in a new form
It is life less when there wasn't a musical number going on
@@KidSnivy69 Still seemed very colorful to me.
