Neil Diamond is one is not the one all time greats not only of my time but but of All times. I've always admired him and is music. One of the best if the best!! From a late 60s early 70s fan!! Long live Neil Diamond!
Have been a fan of Neil throughout most of his 50 year career. Went to many of his concerts,including his 50th Anniversary concert,which was sadly cut short due to his diagnosis f Parkinson’s diesase. None better…so glad you are going down the Neil Diamond rabbit hole!🔥❤️💎
I have been in love with him since 1968 when I was actually dating a guy named Neil and one summer night we were sitting in the car listening to the radio and on came “Sweet Caroline” and I shouted out, “Who is that?” From that moment on I was hooked. When I moved from Buffalo to Los Angeles in 1971, I went to his concerts whenever I could. One time in the ‘80s I went by myself and managed to get a 3rd row ticket on the aisle. His shows were epic! I just love him and his music. There are so many songs that never got played that are even better than the usual ones you hear. He is a true artist and I will miss him dearly now that he will probably never tour again due to his Parkinson’s disease. I wish him the very very best.
I haven’t watched The Jazz Singer in years but after watching this I’ll be adding to my must rewatch list. Really love your channel and the music and artists you choose to highlight. 😊👍🏼
Neil Diamond is an American legend. That voice. It's up there with what I call "man's man" voices. Powerful but smooth, emotional, and vulnerable at times. In the early to mid 70s, I was between 6 and 10 but I would say that because of radio, my musical taste and appreciation was pretty advanced. I loved Gladys Knight & the Pips and Santana as much as I loved the Jackson 5. I hear what you're saying about 70s music compared to today's but, that era was the last real decade of radio. It didn't matter what you looked like, you could be a superstar based solely on your voice. Many times, we had no to little idea what many of these stars looked like unless their picture was on the cover of the album or Rolling Stone magazine or you saw them in concert or on The Midnight Special. All most of us knew was the voice on the radio. I didn't know that Samantha Sang and Dusty Springfield were white until this century. Even then, it often didn't matter if a performer wasn't model-material. Women threw their bras and panties at Barry White, the man whose voice could get someone pregnant. Even at 10 yrs old, listening to Barry White speak seductively on some of his songs and I was like "this is making feel kind of funny". MTV changed that dynamic and added the layers of video and presentation as competitive advantages that persist today. Neil Diamond added some Las Vegas pizzazz to his persona. In the 80s I was in my teens and early 20s and I have to admit that those 70s artists and their performances seemed "old-fashioned". We were all dressing like our favorite bands, I had my Depeche Mode phase and almost every teen girl was dressed like Madonna, so seeing 70s rock stars in t-shirts and jeans seemed like Dad music.
Another legend with a unique sound and long history of great songwriting. Imho, not a great actor and not a great movie; probably not the best song from the movie either. But he had great appeal - over decades - to a lot of people; has a large fan base. Good review!
Attended his autobiographical play,Beautiful Noise,in Brooklyn and Broadway. Going to start playing across the U S in June. Although,Will Swenson and other artists try to perfect his voice…it hasn’t happened yet!
Aww I used to love Paul Nicholas (the snobby dude..lol) This is one of my favourite songs ever. My view of the film however has changed with age. When it came out I found it so romantic, Now middle aged myself, Ifeel sorry for the wife he left behind while he was reinventing himself as a singer!
Neil Diamond is definitely one of the best singer-songwriters ever as well as a charismatic performer with a most distinctive voice, who sold out huge arenas and stadiums around the world, breaking attendance records wherever he performed. People often refer to his sixties and seventies output, but he doesn't usually get much credit for his later work as he matured. And he did mature gracefully. True, he had a serious dip after The Jazz Singer, but as from Tennessee Moon (1996) Neil made some terrific and critically acclaimed albums, like 12 Songs (2005), Home Before Dark (2008), Dreams (acoustic cover album, 2010) and Melody Road (2015), Home Before Dark even hitting the #1 spot on both sides of the Atlantic. These albums contain songs of true substance, depth and rare eloquence. They also prove Neil maintained a high quality throughout his long and illustrious career.

Agreed! I’m grateful to have seen him twice in his older age, and I’m a fan of his later work as well.
