I watched another documentary about this case. It had interviews with the police officers and the look in their eyes shows how traumatized they were. One of them even said that till this day, he hasn't eaten any meat because he keeps having flashbacks. Kudos to them for continuing their work.

We must recognize this and make a vow to ourselves that if we ever find ourselves saying this, we leave the situation, while we still can. That's gut instinct, and it's not supposed to be ignored

I think the lesson is that people should really pay more attention to domestic abuse towards men, Katherine should've been arrested since John started talking about it with his colleagues
The issue is abused people rarely file a complete complaint (men and women who are abused) police can’t do anything without a filed report, and they can’t force the abused to stay away from their abuser. So maybe new laws that allows law enforcement to do more without a complaining witness or charges being brought forth by the abused.

I was already aware that she was planning on doing that because I saw it on a show called deadly women.

I’m extremely saddened that everybody saw John being abused and said/did nothing. What kind of world do we live in when a human being is in an obviously abusive relationship and nobody steps in?
while I somewhat agree an abusive relationship is one you cannot really be talked out of... Chances are they did tell him to leave, hopefully, they did anyway. But it is extremely hard to leave, It's an extremely sad case, and it's even sadder that they did leave but most came back to her... It's a vicious cycle. (I am not talking from personal experience. And I hope anyone who reads this is not going through (or has gone through) any kind of abuse, if you are. You CAN get help. You are WORTHY.)

Both of my parents work in the meat industry and they've told me many times to never trust anyone that truly enjoys the process. They're usually young men.

I'm a former butcher's assistant and I know a couple people who are very enthusiastic about breaking down animals, and they're both very nice and have a lot of maturity and personal restraint. They're the last people I would imagine getting into an altercation of any kind.
I find skinning to be very interesting and I take great pride and enjoyment out of doing the job well. I have known many butchers who, like me, take pride and enjoyment out of prepping a carcass for consumption. There is a massive difference between that and taking enjoyment out of ending the animals life. It needs to be done with somber respect and only when intending to eat, not for “funsies”

For those police officers to still be able to continue walking through the house after seeing all that is so impressive. I would be hunched over on the ground hurling every meal I ever ate in my entire life and then I'd check myself into a psych ward.
Oof, moreover the forensics. They actually have to get up close and personal w/ crime scenes & try not to disturb them. But I actually aspire to be a forensic photographer...

My Grandad was the lead Detective on this case. Idk how he did it either, but this case really messed him up for a long time. He still sees professionals to help him with his PTSD today because of this woman 😔❤️

I just clicked on this video with out knowing what I was getting into, but it didn't take long for me to realise the story was familiar. My best friends mum was a police officer, she was not one of the original officers on the scene but she was somehow involved in the case. She ended up with PTSD ( not sure if it was caused by this case in particular or another, she doesn't talk about it) and she left the force. She took up art as a firm of therapy and now teaches an art class.

Right?! If you have enough presence of mind to decide to plead insanity then the simple fact that you “know” your insane (in my mind anyway) makes you completely sane; however completely evil and fu*ked up, but sane.
Great point! If you can comprehend what sanity is, you’re not insane. But then again- even for people who are literally insane. Let’s say, completely out of their mind- it’s still murder. If someone I loved was murdered by someone who was “insane”, I would lose my shit if they didn’t get the justice they deserved just because of their unstable state of mind. That doesn’t bring my loved one back, yanno..
@@tianalauren6918 pleading insanity isnt the comprehension of insanity, it's the comprehension of right vs wrong at the moment of the crime. It's actually a fairly rare plea and even more rarely successful.

I just feel terrible for John that he told his friends, coworkers, and the police about his abuse yet none of them did anything or helped until it was too late. To me, it seems like John was really trying his hardest to escape this abuse and get help, yet he was ignored. Very sad - had these people done anything, he might still be alive.

5:10 my uncle was married to someone for 18 years and always kept his own place. He was severely abused as a child and needed a house that was only his to make him feel safe. He would stay the weekends with his wife but go to his place on week nights so HIS WIFE could sleep soundly for work. His night terrors were extreme. When you hear stories of people having strange quirks, don’t think automatically they must be hiding something nefarious. Lots of people are mean to little kids, then those kids grow up and have to cope some how, not all turn into killers, they’re just the ones that get the attention.
I wonder how her children were affected by all of this.
