      the really sad truth as to why so many people turn out this way in the US, specifically, is the fact that we're the only country out of 38 within the OECD that does not entitle its people to ANY minimum paid family leave. almost all of us, here, are separated from our parents before we're old/securely attached enough to be ready. even in attentive parents, it's really easy to miss red flags like these when you have to choose between providing for your child and actually raising them. we as a culture are uniquely situated to export violent offenders - it helps to keep our prisons packed with workers whose fair compensation (like the rest of their humanity) ceases to matter the moment they enter the system. y'know, on top of all the nonviolent substance convictions that serve the same purpose?
      our social infrastructure isn't designed to make us healthy. we're raised to be capital meant to produce as much revenue as possible with as little cost as possible, to some seriously irrational and counterintuitive ends. no wonder the rest of the world pities us.

    • @asmokeus
      @asmokeus 4 місяці тому +7

      i think there really is no way to be born wrong. you can only be born into a setting that can meet your needs or into a setting that won't. regrettably for all of us, dennis rader just happened to be born in the US.

    Ilive here and I was working at a nightclub called America's Pub during this period of time and so you had to dress pretty risque . I remember having to walk out to my car at 3:04 in the morning by myself because the bouncers wouldn't want us to our car even though it was the most popular Club in Wichita at the time and at that time BTK said he already had his next victim lined up and was currently stalking them and I was absolutely terrified. All of us ladies were buying guns, pepper spray, tasers anything that we could legally buy we bought and carried on us even if our employer didn't allow us to. When I heard that they caught him it was like a hundred pounds lifted off my shoulder because every single woman in Wichita was terrified some of them wouldn't even leave their houses. Great job covering this POS, Bailey. My husband and I worked at EDCF back then. My husband processed him into state custody. The arrogance was strong in that one! His confession in court was like a performance. He was enjoying the attention. You got it right saying he is a big old baby. He loves being a "celebrity," but now he is just an old man with a number instead of a name.
    He lost his family and his freedom, and seems perfectly OK with that, because he got the notoriety he craved. He wife even changed her name and left the state. Can you imagine finding out your spouse was such a POS? A lot of officers and inmates at EDCF had connections to his victims, so he is in administrative segregation, where he is alone in a cell except for one hour of outdoor exercise, alone.

When Dennis was caught completely off guard by her dad who’d just come out of a back room, he immediately got absolutely irate for no understandable reason and stormed off. I think when you love someone you don't want to believe that they are capable of such evil. So even if you see the signs you dismiss them. No one wants to believe their loved one is a monster.

My exhusband and I owned a home right around the corner from his and some of the victims homes. They had to tear his house down because creeps kept buying it. I totally agree with you that he’s one of the scariest there was - he didn’t know his victims nor did he do it randomly, he planned and stalked them. It really was a dark period of time for the community, all the older locals can tell you stories and I can’t imagine being around at that time.
