  • Orguss industries made arguably the best recon 'mech in history when it created an improved version of the Wasp and Stinger. At 45 ton the PHX-1 is a fast recon 'mech that can return respectable firepower to other scouts and even large targets.
    With the added LAM capability of certain variants the Phoenix Hawk became a popular command 'mech as well as a ECM scout battlemech. Even after the horrendous losses of the Succession wars the Phoenix Hawk continued to be produced by every house in the Inner Sphere and was amongst the first 'mechs to be upgraded with lostech equipment to fight in the clan invasion. During the invasion it would inevitably face it's clan cousin in the form of the Phoenix Hawk IIC.

    That picture looks suspiciously like a super armored veritech fighter from Robotech lol

      Well the original art is the mecha from robotech/macross, but this PGI version cut those beautiful boosters down sadly.

      I was referring to the original art. Yeah those pgi butchers cut down the great looks

      Yeah a shame they went so crazy with the changes. I don't think they had to be quite as bad as they are.

    wish they had LAM mechs in mechwarrior online

      On the one hand yeah it would be cool to transform and fly off to fight in the air. However I always remind myself that this is PGI and more specifically russ bullocks mechwarrior vision. Then I realise sadly that it is probably more of a blessing we don't have LAM's.

      I always feared the grind of war thunder for the jets, even though they looked cool back in the 50's.

      New episode up for the Black Lanner. Wish the later TRO's had more information in them. Really only TRO 2750 and 3025 had anything of serious note.

    Nice video as always. I thought the LAM part is now considered non-canon since them becoming Re-Seen?

    • @CriticalRocket
      @CriticalRocket  8 років тому +4

      Yeah it basically has, but the text I use is from the original books from the 80's and 90's. But yeah reasonable changes have been made and the LAM thing for how cool the idea is, doesn't work so well these days :)

      LAMs do still exist in BattleTech, but they are very expensive and very niche, as they can't pack as much gear because of LAM parts and weight. There even is a LAM variant of the Phoenix hawk still. They do, of course, look very different from the unseen art. Check out the Pwwka LAM

    any mech thats holding a gun in its hand, the odds are its from an anime lol

      Yeah. The Wasp and Phoenix Hawk look like complete copies of the veritech fighter from Robotech. Interestingly, the Transformers franchise also ripped-off the veritech fighter and created a character called Skyfire. It's all about money... I guess.

      They are pretty much the same as the Macross units. They were legally licensed out back in the 80's, but the company that licensed them out to FASA didn't have the proper rights to do so, which ended up in a legal shitshow between FASA, Macross, and Harmony Gold. Look up "The Unseens" for more info on it.

      Actually it makes sense if you really think about it because Mechs in all practical purpose don't have a reason to exist so in order to justify their existence you need to make them as multi-purpose as possible and if it has arms it can be used as a rudimentary forklift also it's not a rule Titans and Titanfall all use rifle style weapons along with additional weapons mounted on the side

      Catalyst have produced way better new seen versions. Their Locust looks stunning as does the Wasp and Stinger. Well pretty much all of them.

  • @DIEGhostfish

    So unlike Macross boosters those back pods don't have any weapons in them right? Honestly on the PGI and even the 3055 IIC version they always look like they'd be cool over the shoulder weapon mounts.

    • @CriticalRocket
      @CriticalRocket  4 роки тому

      Yeah it was just stylised that way and became the jumpjets for the 'mech instead.

    • @DIEGhostfish
      @DIEGhostfish 4 роки тому

      @@CriticalRocket The Catalyst ones don't really seem like the sticky upy bits are all that needed for the Jumpjets either, just a bit of visual language without much meaning. Espescially the way they seem to pop open (Like weapon pods) on the pic SARNA has.
