Glad crown is doing a quiet ballad. such a different skill of control and maturity that isn't as developed in other horn lines
The ballad is Wagner's Prelude to Tristan un Isolde. The first chord from the full ensemble is infamously known as THE Wagner chord which is monumental in music history and theory. Go listen to the orchestral version of this. It's rubato, 6/4 and very artistic. It's the absolute last thing I ever thought I would see in a field show 😭😭🙌🏾🙌🏾
Loved when Alan said it sounded like Debussy. He didn’t know who it was by but he could just hear the harmonic structure and know it’s from that Romantic Era!
Dawg that’s not romantic
@@alexchaviramusic Early Debussy and Wagner is romantic era. It's towards the end of it though.
5:30 trumpet screamers are insane, blended, and couldn’t be in a better place, love that hit
Others corps try to make heroes out of their screamers most of the times and are often cracked and too exposed
@@tredaviousbowser7931I mean I think bd does it pretty consistently tho, very rarely do you hear them crack badly at shows
Easily another brass award to the collection
Going to be VERY tight between them and BD. My money’s on blue for the Ott.
The best drumline they have had in more than a decade.
3rd place at finals. They played man!
Saw this show live it was great. So powerful and clean even in early season. It feels like the brass book is a little too easy for them but I dont know if the story and or theme is strong enough for modern judges.
I love Everett flexing the desk setup lol. I like the new percussion writing and I DEFINITELY think Crown will play a major role in the drums game in the near near future. My guess is they'll win a Sanford in the next 5 years given the level they're already performing at.
uh, they have 6 bass drums...
@@shadowkille8r99 yeah and SCV had a cymbal line, so what
Honest question from an DCI Alum. Does a winning show always have to push the boundaries of the activity. If that is the strongest criteria, then Bluecoats have been doing that for a long time but they only have one gold to show for it. How do you counter the ppl that say BD's shows are all the same in that instance? I believe that BD has found a great foundation for show design, of which it feels as though they've refined and mastered since 2009 that will gain them the most points to win. ( I know that's not entirely true ). My point is that not every winning show has to push the boundaries. Shows can have all of the elements that reach the highest quality of performance essentially meeting that boundary. What is "pushing the boundary" when show design and execution is at arguably the highest level that it has ever been?
Pushing the boundary has never been required to win. Most corps who push the boundaries don't win so I'm not sure where you got that from. It's about cleanliness. Blue Devils are typically very clean overall across percussion, hornline, and guard, visually and musically, hence they typically win
It can be all of those things!!! It is a balancing act. You gotta be clean AND you gotta push boundaries (subtly or glaringly) while ALSO not losing the history and lore of the activity that is so foundational to its charm. The Blue Devils are not everyone's favorite, but they have refined an approach that works pretty well at balancing it all
@@truthteller8504I think they said that because in the video there was a comment about how it’s a very “crown” show and doesn’t push boundaries of the activity, so I believe they’re asking for insight in if that effects scores at the end of the day. I could be wrong but that’s how I interpreted it.
Appreciate this comment! I think one thing to note is that pushing the boundary of the activity can mean a lot of things. I think the Bluecoats are the most “in your face” with how they go after new and different ideas within the marching activity. And those things can often be somewhat easy to approach from an audience perspective. But as a Blue Devil alum, I do find that the ways that BD innovates are not as obvious and sometimes abstract. And that is something that the judges certainly do recognize and give them credit for. But audiences sometimes don’t.
@@zachchurch9819 This is where I was coming from. thank you.
Hello from Malaysia. I'm a colorguard player . I love watching you guys reaction and comment video . Please do this more. So much knowledge
Crown just makes you feel something when you hear them😮 that the others don’t reach!
Not true at all. And every year is different.
I think their opener is from a track pulled from the movie 1917
Crown has the best creative sound and always great arrangements. Devils will be hard to beat as usual.
The book needs a good amount of beefing if they want to medal this year, and I’m excited to see where the crown is added and how the closer will change!
It's already changed since this show. There's A LOT to come. They're hungry and they're eating.
Their content scores have been great. Its their achievement right now, and thats exactly where you want to be at this part of the season.
@@RussellKasemthey’re going to medal regardless
I disagree. This show will medal 2nd or 3rd. The level of difficulty with the music is not on the level of BD. The judges like it.
There is no way they won't "medal." This show and performance are fantastic on all levels.
Let’s go!!!! They are back 🔥🔥🔥
Yipee! So glad to see you guys back in my YT feed.
stoked you guys are back with more content, always love the analysis!
They’re often bias in their comments especially last year. They critique everyone but BD for obvious reasons
Love these videos… great insight !!
I’ve been waitin a long time for this again🤌
Great insight guys of the top corps you may be evaluating this summer I hope you will chance checking out the troopers this year I truly believe they have earned A ton of respect from last season they have an amazing show this year thanks❤
I was there at this show! Got great seats for getting tickets at the door! Was definitely the loudest show that day!
Finally a new video! 🎉
The ballad is Liebestode from the opera: Tristan und Isolde by Richard Wagner
You guys provide so much insight. I just saw a bunch of these top-level corps at Nightbeat and they're all so good I can't distinguish what is setting one apart from another
You're not mentioning the awesome MUSIC of the opening movement. From 1917. Brilliantly arranged.
Excellent Commentary guys.
Let’s go!
FINALLY
OH YEEAAAAH!
1:53 in the trumpets sounds like a callback to the big impact in 2012 going into the closer
y'all crazy if you don't think they'll get the Jim ott award
Just the fact that they used The Night Window from 1917 for the opener makes this a favorite for me 😂
Nice! I was wondering when you guys would react to this season
Ayeee they're alive lets go
Would still love to see you guys check out the Bluecoats Alumni performance together, even if you all seen it already!
Do you guys check the source material for the shows that you review? Ravel? I'm sure that Maurice is great, but you're talking about Wagner's Tristan Chord. There have been books and documentaries made about that chord used in that second movement. I'd definitely do my homework on this one, guys. The sources for this show are pretty fabulous and well worth checking out. Peace! ❤
You mean they said it was Ravel? Don't they care to mention the composers? You're right. They should take a few seconds and research the titles.
That’s a bold statement to say that Crown is not pushing the boundaries enough js crazy when Blue Devils have basically been playing the same type of show every year and still wins. We have not seen a show like this from other corps. Now if we want to talk about how they could connect with the audience more, then that’s different but these guys are really going for something that has not quite been done.
Please do Phantom!!!
To bad yall filmed this before the first set of changes. The sustain at the end of the ballsd is way longer now.
You gotta get to the Mandarins!!
Wagner reminds you of Debussy or Ravel?
Malik never peeped a word lol
omg...i thought that was my discord noti lmao
Is mans going to continue pre-watching? Time will tell lol
So when you comment "NICE" I am wondering what is NICE? Horn line, Guard, Perc, Staging, moment in time. And, that Color Guard is incredible! Not hearing any comments supporting that fact!
exactly!! I wish they had acknowledged some of those tosses. I think this is their best guard since 2016! It’s been awesome watching their growth over the years since the guard staff change in 2017.
The Wagner section is fire.
Please do bk I’m curious to see what you think
Everett: anything else
Malek: (sound like Bruh man on the 5th flo) NAAAAAaaaahhhhhh...
Could y’all talk more colorguard in terms of GE? Hearts and flowers 💐 ❤
4:24 pit bass could quiet down and more bari
Blame Flo. It's not an issue in person whatsoever.
@@as_sv9788 sorry these are practice notes for me thanks
Let’s go
Middle school trick or treat costumes. Make them look silly. And the King Arthur stuff is cheesy and hammy to max. They do sound awesome.
it's crown
It has a Babylon vibe to it.
It is time to react other corps.
leonardo dicaprio
I like the show, but it lacks any color visually.
As an Alum, I think both the corps and guard costumes are visually dull.
Crazy that they will be slotted into 4th again. RIP
