Singing ALL PARTS from the Carolina Crown 2017 Hornline Opener Hit | JMB Music

- This Month's release is a bit different... I covered the ending of the famous Carolina Crown 2017 performance. This video is all my voice and there's no pitch shifting happening here. Though pitch correction had to be used to get a clean sound. Pushing this far into the limits of your voice (6 full octaves of range) makes things a little bit pitchy here and there. With that out of the way I hope you'll enjoy this special performance of Gods Hornline!

Wow, I'd never even thought about hearing a choral version of a horn section. Now you've got me wanting to hear the "Carolina Crown drops the hammer in Houston" warmup that went viral a couple of years ago.
I will do another hornline video later this year… I still have to decide which performance to cover though… but I’ll put this one on the list :)
CC's DTH in Houston is great. Consider the end of CC's 2013 tuning sequence which is more interesting to listen to, esp if you include some of the dynamics. ua-cam.com/video/P2eqBIGR4eY/v-deo.htmlsi=oMrC1-t6hFvPh44B&t=94
Yooo!! Dude, the high's, low's, and everything in between is INSANITY!! Love the dissonance in the chords! Also, probably the biggest range you displayed in a short song and, of course, the most parts as well! Well done, my man! Looking forward to the next one!
Thank you so much Brady!! You’re right, this is range-wise and parts-wise my biggest thing ever! I’m very glad you liked it🙏🏻❤️
@@jmbmusic1Sorry, were you hitting a marching Tuba / contra G1 at the end there?
Not to mention a flipping G6??
@@tiyenin You‘re right about the G6, but the lowest note here is actually a G0 on the last chord… Possible to hit in studio with some nerdy vocal techniques and as many attempts as you want but Never Ever performable live hahaha
Yikes! Apostrophe alert!
It’s basically the last line of Toccata & Fuge in D minor, but with a major resolve at the end…
Sounds nice 👍
Yeah, that’s what it is. Carolina Crown just changed that ending up a bit.
this puts a smile on my face
Vielen Dank Daniel!! So soll es sein!
Honestly... damn. That's hella impressive. But just think about it... a whole hornline, but it's just someone's voice. Crazy
Thanks a ton!!
I love how the back row are singing normally, the middle row are sweating their asses off and the front row is all swag.
Hahaha, that’s pretty accurate!
Her: he’s probably out cheating on me!
Me and the boys:
This is insane bass lines there:
C2, Eb2, A2, Bb2, D2, Eb1(octave -1)/Eb2, C1(oct -1)/C2, D1(oct -1)/D2
Then at the end: G1(oct -1)/G2 to a G0(oct -2)/G1. AWESOME!!!!
Great analysis of the bass line. 100% correct! Thank you!!!
@@jmbmusic1 My pleasure.
The Ebmaj9 after that DMinor has a Bb as well lol
How has this not gone viral yet???? This is INSANE dude!!
Thanks dude!! It‘s not viral but at least it‘s one of my best performing videos yet ;)
Every single time you upload I am left speechless… Amazing as always! 😁
Wow, thank you so much for your kind words!!! 🙏🏻🎶❤️
WOWWWWWWW BRO THIS IS AMAZING - keying and coloring looks magnificent 😍😍😍
Casper that means a LOT coming from you!! And since this is my first green screen work ever, it makes me even more happy!
One of the most beatiful things my ears have heard.
That’s too nice man! Thank you!!!
I have probably replayed this video 50 times in the last day, and my jaw drops every time. Pure talent
Wow, thank you so much! I hope your jaw is fine from all the dropping 😄
@@jmbmusic1 Nope, I think maxillofacial surgery is the only saving grace for my jaw :( Worth it, though
omg please do more like this?? i love it! and i bet almost nobody else could get something like this quite so right. your voice is perfect for tall and thick harmony like this!
Thanks a ton! I initially wanted to keep this a one-time thing but I keep getting more comments like this so I think later this year I‘ll do a second one…
@jmbmusic1 if you're taking suggestions I think Caroline Crown dropping the hammer in 2017 would be absolutely incredible for you to do
@@jrwarrior9962 Recommendations are always welcome! But till this point I haven’t heard anything as cool as this 2017 hornline ending.
@jmbmusic1 the video I mentioned is probably the most popular DCI video out there, there's tons of other dope stuff tho! Here's a few other things I think you'd enjoy:
SCV 2018 ballad
SCV 2018 closer
Blue Devils 2017 ballad
Bluecoats 2016 ballad
Carolina Crown 2015 opening
Bluecoats 2014 closer
There's tons of other cool moments these are just the ones that came to mind first
@@jrwarrior9962 Cool, I’ll listen through these and keep them in mind for the future! Thanks!
Ok, i'll watch the whole Crown 2017 show again for the millionth time. Well done, sir!
Hahaha, thanks!!!
This is awesome, especially that last chord at the end!!! Keep up the amazing work!
Hey, thanks man!! Haven‘t heard from you in a while. It’s nice to see a comment from you again!
@@jmbmusic1 ya I’ve been a bit inactive on here lately, but I still like seeing what’s going on in the bass singing community! Glad to see that you and others are continuing to keep it alive and growing! It’s good to hear from you again too! 🙏
I NEVER KNEW I NEEDED ACAPELLA DCI MUSIC UNTIL NOW PLEASE MAKE MORE
Hahaha I will make more, don’t you worry! It might just take a little while till the next one. I have other projects coming.
hey i love carolina crown brass this was really cool
you should collab with Eric's orchestra at home, he does the same thing but with orchestral instruments. he layers himself over and over. you could be his choir lolol would be amazing
Thank you!!! I just checked his channel out. He’s doing amazing stuff!
brother you're so underrated
this masterpeice of a dude should be having like millions of subs 😭😭😭
Thanks a ton man! One day we‘ll get there… 😅
That bass note.
Yeah!! It‘s low :)
This is absolutely incredible! I broke into one of the most genuine laughs I've had in a while listening to this, in the best sort of way.
Well I guess that’s great 😅😂
Thank you!
Hey buddy, I sing with the Vocal Majority in Dallas Texas and am an AVID DCI fan….this was phenomenal. Excellent work buddy!
Wow, that’s so cool! I‘m glad you liked it! And thank you so much for checking it out!

Thank you so so so much Adam!! Means a ton! 🙏🏻❤️🎶🤝🏻
Bro this is actually amazing!!!
Thanks!!! 🙏🏻🎶
Soo good!! Well done, man. And congrats, by the way. I just became your 1,000th subscriber! 🎉
Thanks a whole lot!!! And also thanks for subscribing ❤️🙏🏻
dude this is epic you should start it w the dissonant chords they start in their warmup/tuning sequence
Thanks a lot!!! Idk, the dissonant chords might be too nerdy for the general audience… But I think I‘ll give it a go at some point in the future for one of their warmups.
I’m loving this. Fantastic job. Huge Crown fan.
Thanks a ton!!! There will be more in the future!
I mainly like to believe due to Metamorph being like THE show of 2017 that a lot of other amazing shows are left out, (like bluecoats and Crown) however, no matter how much I hate the Blue Devils, Metamorph is just an iconic show for me personally
at 0:25 I can hear the bridge between pitch and rhythm in that low note, foundation of the chord
Exactly! That’s because it’s so low. You can hear the individual pulses and it’s barely comprehensible as a musical note.
😮 HOLY SH*T! Now this is a phenomenal one man choir shot. Though it's a really short section of that horn section warmup (I've watched the whole thing), this was absolutely mind blowing. Literally after I listened to this on my phone, I instantly went "I need to get my headphones." Jaw dropping my friend. ^^,
That’s such a nice comment dude! Thank you so very much! I will do another hornline Video later this year which will probably be longer than this one :)
@@jmbmusic1thank you for the reply. I really wish I could do what you do, but unfortunately I don't have the confidence in filming or being in the camera. I have the musical know how, and don't mind being in front of people, but a camera is just so much harder.
This is beyond impressive. Great video 👏🏼
Thanks a ton!!!
That was an unusual thing to think of doing. Well done.
Thank you!! Whenever I hear cool music I wonder how it would sound like with just voices… So I tried this out!
Absolutely nuts! Dude the video is crazy high quality!
Thank ye Sander!! Haha For first time green screen use it’s not that bad, right?
@@jmbmusic1 It’s absolutely ridiculous dude! When I look back at my first time using green screen, well, I better don’t haha
This is the most impressive thing I have ever seen
That’s too much praise… Thanks so much!!!
my king
That's awesome!
Thank you!
Goosebumps
6 octave ending there, is that both your lowest and highest note you’ve ever used in the same chord?
That’s correct! In fact I‘ve never used these notes in any musical context.
proud of you man
Thanks man!
Epic!
Thanks bro!
Wow
Thanks!
if you're looking to do this again, I recommend bluecoats' 2011 ballad, Creep. Blue did it themselves, there's a video of it out there somewhere.
With that aside, you are absolutely fantastic. Six octaves is absolutely insane to me
Thanks a ton!!! I will have a listen to that performance. I do intend on making another one of these towards the end of the year…
@@jmbmusic1 👀👀👀
I second Bluecoats 2011 Creep- one of two truly epic DCI performances: ua-cam.com/video/YyzzG5MTMyM/v-deo.htmlsi=pko3UU6N5_uilcRY
Now Bluecoats 2017 Jagged Line ending, im marching Bluecoats this summer and Crown mext summer
I don’t have a plan on making another one of these in a while but maybe at some point I‘ll do it…
@@jmbmusic1 That's good enough for me
OH MY LORD! JESUS MAN! THIS IS INCREDIBLE!
Hahaha thanks a lot!
Wow this is awesome!!! I thought I was already subscribed to you, I already follow you on insta and TikTok as well. Hit that subscribe button the second I heard this video! From one singer to another you have an amazing range! Some nice lows there even though you’re not technically a bass right? I consider myself a bass with an extended range lol 😂
Thank you so much Andrew! And also thank you for subscribing! Yes, it’s true, I‘m actually a Tenor. I have to use extended techniques for anything below F2 haha.
Perfect
Thanks!!
Very clear G0!!
Yeeeaaahhhh!!!
Wow bro didn't think id hear drum corps music be A Capella but it's freaking awesome
Hahaha, thanks a ton! I wondered why nobody tried it yet so I had to give it a go myself!
was that a... G0?! that has to be inward bass / ingressive phonation right? The lowest I can clearly do is a C0
You are 100% correct! It is a G0 and I used ingressive phonation to hit it ;)
I meant C1 not C0 that would be insane
plsssss do more
Will do!
bro this is INSANEEEEEE
Hahaha, thanks bro!!! Did I go too far this time? 😂😂
This is incredible, I love the bass note at the end! (I can't tell if its a G0 or a G1 though lol)
Thank you!! It’s G1 on the second to last chord and G1 with a layered G0 on the final chord 🤙🏻😎
@@jmbmusic1That’s awesome! Was it a 3rd sub, inhale or something else crazier?
@@jordgubbe4627 All the really low bass stuff here is inhale except for a subharmonic G2 on the final chord!
@@jmbmusic1It sounds really good, I found your channel yesterday and went back and watched your 2nd / 3rd sub videos from the past few years, awesome progress. Can’t wait to hear more stuff from you in the future!
@@jordgubbe4627 Thanks again! More stuff is to come!
This is so NUTS, you’re crazy!!
The most nuts things are often the most fun hahaha!
Thank you so much!
Fantastic stuff man! Are those subharmonics on the lowest notes at the end?
Thanks man!! All the really low stuff here is sung using ingressive phonation! I, as a Tenor, don‘t have subharmonics low enough to reach the lowest notes here, so I have to go with other techniques…
@@jmbmusic1awesome! Also, I’ve seen some collaborations you do with other folks, out of curiosity, how do those get set up?
@@jonmurphy2564 Well, through Discord servers like the „Bass Singing Nation“ I made some online friends in this online a cappella community. At some point either me or one of my friends decides to do a collaboration and the idea is proposed. Usually we accept and then get more into detail about what exactly we are covering. Often the person planning the project then sends out demo tracks for the other(s) to record their part to. Then we figure out what to do with the video and record that as well. It‘s actually not that hard, you just gotta have people who are willing to invest the time in this sort of stuff. But great things can come out of it.
oh yeah
Can you do this for the Bluecoats 2016 opener?
I already have a filled list with other performances that I want to cover so I don’t know if I‘ll be able to make it to this one… But there‘s another Bluecoats performance coming this year so be on the lookout for that one…
Ok that's really low! From a Crown fan myself, well done!!
Thank you! I really appreciate the kind words!
Was the low notes subharmonics or ingressive phonation?
All the low stuff was Ingressive except for a Subharmonic G2 on the final chord 🔥
Oh god!!! Sorry for being late checking out this video. As a vocal range UA-camr, I feel like there is something I must do... lol
P. S. Congratulations on 900 subscribers! Let's party when you reached 1K haha!
Hahaha!!! It’s totally fine dude. You don’t have to apologize for being late.
And yeah, 900 Subs!!! Thanks my dude!! I don’t have anything specific planned for 1000 subs… Maybe I should do something like a Q&A?
@@jmbmusic1 I think you should!!! A Q&A would be a lot of fun. But I would love to suggest starting your own Patreon since there are a lot of people who want to support you, including me.
@@TaigaMoriBass Maybe I‘ll look into the Patreon thing at some point… But at the moment money is really not a concern for me. It’s just time that I‘m lacking 😅
please do Carolina Crown 2015 opening hit
Thanks for the recommendation. I‘ll add it to the list. We‘ll see if I end up singing that one.
THE OVERTONES 🤯
You have some wild cords...
my jaw DROPPED.
I hope it didn’t hurt haha
Sick dude! Are you considering doing other things from DCI in the future?
Thanks dude! I am considering but not in the near future…
Nice job, man! Is that legit vocal fry? Or is the bass pitched down? Either way it was really cool and spot-on!
Thank you! Nothing here is pitched down. I actually sang if using ingressive phonation, which is basically vocal fry, just inhaled.
Please can you do Metamorph by blue devils, the ballad section. Search up Blue Devils Metamorph Ballad
I‘ll add that one to the list. But don’t expect anything soon…
PLEASE do SCV 2018
I already have some other ones lined up… I can’t guarantee that I‘ll be able to get to this one anytime soon. But thanks for the recommendation!
Did you do your pitch correction to 12tET or a microtonal system such as just intonation?
That’s a special question… I used the 12tet system for tuning. I am not very good at music theory and these chords here are quite massive so I didn’t know how I would perfectly tune the vocals.
MORE!!!!!
We‘ll see when I do something like this again…
you gotta do kinetic noise or tilt next bro
Thanks for the recommendations! We‘ll see if one of these makes it into a future video…
MR. ANDERSON
Can you do Carolina crown 2013
I‘ll give it a listen. I still have to decide which DCI performance I wanna cover next…
Do more dci singing please and thank you.
I will probably do another one at some point, but not in the near future…
Do other DCI shows!
I will do more of these! Stay tuned…
Broccoli Rob!
What pitch correction are u doing for the contra
I am using Melodyne for all my pitch correction. But for the very low stuff it‘s sometimes rather difficult as Melodyne starts having problems picking up the correct pitch around the low 1st octave and below. I had to record the super low stuff here multiple times to get a take that Melodyne analyzed somewhat correctly.
@@jmbmusic1Any special editing for those crazy notes or are u using an inhale/subharmonic technique
@@shirtybackup7997 All the low bass stuff here below G2 I had to sing using ingressive phonation / Inhale. There‘s no way I could reach that low with any other technique. And pitch shifting is not an option for me.
how did you increase your low range so much???
I‘ve been training low singing techniques like subharmonics and ingressive phonation for over four years now. Without these I certainly wouldn’t be able to record anything like this.
@@jmbmusic1 ah, i cant do ingressive just subharmonics, but i would be considered a bass singer if i sang anyway so its not a big deal, but you are a tenor reaching low notes of a bass, just wow
hot
yo how'd you pull of a 20hz noise tf
With a vocal technique called Ingressive Phonation 😎
How does he sound like a mellophone?
Hahaha, I don’t know… 😄
Bluecoats 2014?????
I‘ll have to listen to that one… Though, there are already a few others that I plan on doing next, so this one probably won’t happen anytime soon.
The guy she tells you not to worry about...
😂😂💯
Is that another DCI and barbershop fan?!?!
Barbershop, yes! DCI, kind of... I just recently found the original clip from Carolina Crown and I found it so epic and amazing that I just had to do something with it. But I don’t know much about DCI and I’m not super keen on looking much more into it at the moment.
Oh okay. There is so much to nerd out on both and they both go down a deep rabbit hole. I know there are some that are fans of both, was just wondering. I don't blame you though, watching and Carolina crown video and seeing how awesome it is. They are one of the best
how low were those notes dude, sounded like a song god plays whenever your life is about to end

Good humor tho...
@@12B4Christ I do tell the truth! In fact I hate when people make false claims so I try to be careful with telling things correctly here. I did actually hit all the notes in this piece. But I used some pitch correction to get everything to sound clean (as stated in the video description).
If you wanna get more views on this you might wanna try a different title
Maybe like “When You’re A One Man Orchestra”
And probably remove the name of the song in the thumbnail if you go with a title like that
You might be right; I guess I‘ll try the title thing out for a little while and see how it goes. Though the Thumbnail will stay. Otherwise people who know Carolina Crown will have no idea what this is and might scroll past it. The purpose of title and thumbnail as a viewer is to know exactly what you’re getting yourself into.
