Its a nice name but to fit with the japanese origins of the game's development prior to its western release. Fake Kraid could be called Nureido named in the english version as Fraid. Named after Kureido, Kraid's Japanese name and Nise the japanese translation for 'Fake'. It kind of fits in the same vein as how Wario from the Mario franchise is derrived from 'Warui' the japanese translation for Bad. Its nothing of a big change. But its a thought worth forgetting or bringing up for debate. IDK & IDC people are complicated and so is social media.
I took Ridley being a leader above Kraid more to do with his intelligence than ability, as I don't think Kraid could beat Ridley in chess, if you get what I mean. Also, I think Kraid might be the name of the species rather than the name of that particular member, and he might fit into the group as more of a giant monster the Space Pirates captured and use against threats.
I'm now imagining Kraid and Ridley on a huge table in a dark room, playing chess with incredibly dramatic and tense expressions "Ah, you beat me again Ridley!!!" Then they start fighting over the table knocking everything off
I think the reason that Ridley's the leader instead of Kraid is because he's so much more maneuverable. Kraid probably can't fit in most space ships, and is only seen in the largest cave system rooms. He's also probably quite slow, and his size would probably make him a bit clumsy. As a Space Pirate, it would be essential for him to be able to steal and retrieve things, while realistically he would probably just break it. Ridley may be a tight squeeze in most space ships or cave systems, but he's fast, maneuverable, he took down Ceres all by himself and led the attacks on Zebes and K-2L, he was able to retrieve the baby metroid and bring it all the way back to Zebes without breaking the tank until he got to norfair despite his claws and large size, and he can fly in space.
Right, Kraid is a big heavy tank, but if you're a space pirate, as in you raid and steal space ships for a living, how often is Kraid going to be useful in the day to day operations?
You don't need to be small and maneuverable to be a commander. I mean, out of alien species there are probably some the size of rats, by your logic they would make "better" space pirates.
It’s also largely Ridley’s intelligence that would give him the leadership position over Kraid. Kraid is intelligent himself as a leader, but Ridley has both leadership and technological prowess.
From what I remember they mention that Ridley is highly intelligent. So it might be less of a durability thing and more of a tactician thing. Who is strong and smart vs who is the strongest. Power isn’t everything.

I always thought Kraid's role in the space pirates was not one of leadership but more of an enforcer of sorts, Ridley I always thought was more like the planner, schemer, and strategist; while kraid is definitely muscle but not mental..... Also in dread we've seen clones several times before, and a genetic memory sort of thing could easily explain his hatred for Samus on sight.....(or he could just be enraged from being in prison there for years and anything remotely looking like a chozo pisses him off.... or maybe that one's just gone feral from Hunger or something)
My take on the space pirate chain of command. Mother Brain is the strategist, Ridley commands the main armada, and Draygon and Phantoon specialize in water combat and fear tactics respectively. Kraid? Kraid is heavy weapons guy. You need to blow a hole in something, his troops are who you call. Now I’m picturing him eating a comically large sandvich.
I never considered Draygon a space pirate, more of a shellfish trying to raise a family in the depths of Maridia. Then again, her statue is in the Tourian statue room, so I guess she is a space pirate...
I wonder if Kraid is more brawn than brains and THATS why Riddley takes the cake because his case reminds me of THE BLACK DRAGON in Mortal Kombat where you have members with magic powers, supersonic speed and the ability to control ground based elements and earthquakes but the leader is some australian crook with a cyber eye and an army knife.
I believe that the reason why Kraid appeared in ZDR is because he's a clone of the original Kraid created by Quiet Robe at the behest of Raven Beak via remaining DNA and samples. Raven Beak probably went to Zebes in search of Metroid DNA, but only found Kraid DNA before Zebes was blown up, and probably tried to make the best out of a bad situation.
Makes sense. 🤔 Raven Beak *_did_* make an incursion to Zebes at some point, after his initial genocide of SR388, so I guess he thought he could repurpose whatever he found there into a bio-weapon. However, given the place where we find the Clone Kraid and the event depicted in that one Chozo Memory... *I think it's safe to say the poor space croc was deemed a failure.* I mean, Raven Beak _did_ repurpose him as an obstacle for Samus, but... THE POOR CLONE IS LITERALLY *HANGING OVER LAVA,* with only a measly crane and two cords keeping him up! It's like Raven Beak was ready to just drop him and be done with him at a moment's notice! _Poor clone...!_ :'(
I have a personal theory about Kraid after playing Dread, that is that he joined the Space Pirates to hide from the Mawkin by avoiding a leadership position and taking a defensive role to stay hidden, only after the first Metroid game does he learn that the Chozo have disappeared does he take a more offensive role
There's a very odd detail about the fact that as mentioned on the video, Fake Kraid in Super Metroid serves as a gag to remind players of the first game how tall Kraid used to be in the original NES game vs. how big he is on the SNES. However in the GBA remake they omitted Fake Kraid entirely and they retconned Kraid to have always been a giant, so essentially the fake went from a red herring to a non sequitur from a "canon" stand-point *Not that it really matters since it's not like a lot of people are playing Zero Mission instead of the NES game on their Switch*
There is a much better and more believable theory for Dread Kraid being the same Kraid: The possibility that there are other Mawkin groups that were off of ZDR at the time of the X infection. It seems kind of dumb to me that this proud and expansive warrior race would have only one planet under their belt. So, while all of the soldiers on ZDR were infected, there may have been a few smaller groups off-planet. These extra troops would have been able to pick up Kraid and chain him. I prefer this theory because I like to think of Kraid as an individual, like Ridley. That, and also the glare he gives Samus. Plus, his gnarly mouth in Dread gives the appearance that it's been blasted with missile barrages at least a couple times in the past. On a side note, with Dread giving Kraid popularity again, here's hope for his inclusion in Prime 4. Come on, Retro, you know you want to do Meta Kraid!
@@KidPrarchord95 My problem with that theory is, at the canon time Samus fights Kraid (with the Varia Suit), it really only has a passing resemblance to Mawkin Armor.
Kraid didn't necessarily have to have gone to Zebes and back in between the chozo archives and Dread. It's possible that Raven Beak wasn't the only survivor of the X outbreak and that he managed to get some of his Mawkin brethren off world or into stasis chambers(I mean, Quiet Robe survived and he wasn't even a warrior), and then they captured Kraid afterwards. As for what HAPPENED to those Mawkin... either Kraid killed them, or Raven Beak decided to be a complete dick while opening up Elun and let the X parasites eat them while they were still on the surface.
One thing I like to imagine is that Kraid is the head of the infamous Science Team from the lore in Metroid Prime, the same ones that folded a bunch of pirates in half by shoving them into prototype Morph Balls. What portrays the image of recklessness and stupidity for the sake of power better than a giant spiky dinosaur?
11:04 I agree that it's a different being on ZDR, but there's actually no proof that the OG Kraid died in Super Metroid. In fact, he's the only boss in the game that we don't actually see die on screen. He just burrows underground, still very much roaring and flailing but clearly not dead. He could have easily fled the planet.
Other M/Fusion confirmed that Ridley is essentially dead alongside everything on Zebes, (MoM is a clone and Neo is an X that absorbed its remains) which Dread does treat as canon considering the ending screens.
@@TheOrpheon Just because it's the case for Ridley doesn't necessarily mean it's the case for everything else. I don't see any reason why Kraid couldn't have simply left Zebes if he wasn't actually dead (which, as it stands, isn't really confirmed one way or the other). Given that he's a Space Pirate, one can assume that he's more intelligent than just being wildlife, and thus it is not too far fetched to also assume he'd leave the planet (or, at least be recovered by other pirates). Phantoon is another boss in the game that we never actually saw die, and he was able to return later. (Granted, he's a bit more of a special case than Kraid, but it's still a bit of evidence) Every other space pirate leader that doesn't appear again, we actually saw them die or at least sustain serious injury (Ridley is torn to shreds, Mother Brain collapsed into dust, Dragon's stomach explodes), but Kraid and Phantoon both just flee from battle, relatively unharmed. I don't remember Other M or Fusion ever specifying that anything on Zebes other than Ridley and MB, and maybe some wild life, were completely eradicated with the planet's destruction, but even if they did, the Federation has often been wrong or actively lied about things being dead. tl;dr: Kraid is probably dead, but out of everyone else barring Phantoon, he has the most plausible evidence pointing towards his potential survival.

Considering how early Kraid was defeated in Super Metroid, and how he didn't die on screen, he definitely could have recovered from his defeat and got in a ship and made it off the planet before its destruction. Also Phantoon is basically a fucking eldritch horror. It can 'die', but there's really no way that thing can be permakilled. If there's any villain from the previous games that can still appear in a Metroid game, it's honestly probably Phantoon.
Ridley has the title "cunning god of death" (maybe) and kraid constantly exposes the only part of his body that can be harmed by roaring. I think there's good reason ridley is higher up the chain.
I have always been a big fan of Kraid. Fusion was the first game I played, and I fell in love with Ridley immediately. However when I played zero mission for the first time as a kid and came across Kraid, I had goosebumps, and still do every time I fight the big guy on any game. I have always felt he is underrated, and wanted him to return in the series for over a decade. Was beyond thrilled to fight him again in Dread. Love ya Kraid.
Bio weapons are a reoccurring theme in the series. Maybe kraid is the perfect example of when a bio weapon gets out of hand for the series. The pirates have one, the chozo have one… Definitely a fun battle for players, for when they are not at full power.
Kraid is such an underrated boss that needs to appear in more games, not as much as Ridley of course, but only in three games is not enough. If he appears in Prime 4 that would be great
What are you talking about? Prime 4 has been in development for several years now. It’s slated to release on the Switch if everything goes accordingly.
Dude just because no gameplay has been shown doesn’t mean that Metroid Prime 4 doesn’t exist. That’s like saying UV radiation doesn’t exist because you can’t see it with your eyes. Prime 4 is real and being developed behind closed doors. You can deny it all you want but that doesn’t change the fact that Prime 4 is very much real.
America needs to adopt Kanji already so we can write it 死のの喫 and have better chances of ever pronouncing it right, than by manhandling Roman letters into those existing words in this futile attempt at phonetics by example. Or just learn to write IPA. Or just learn to pronounce Latin. OR actually have words in English invented, like it's, what, a real language that you CAN learn? Although i gotta Agree Kraid can be a bit of a pain, Ridley has always been that boss who always beats me consistently on my first run in every Metroid Game with him in it, it even happened in Smash Bros before i unlocked him. I've always found Ridley a bit harder to deal with when it's your first time because of how much damage he tanks and how much he can dish out. Also Kraid probably isn't the leader because he's far too big for the conference table. Space Pirates we're probably lucky enough to accommodate room for Ridley but Kraid would likely set them back a lot.
Great video as always Orpheon, I really enjoy the more comedic editing. In terms of Kraid The reason why I think he’s not a leader of the space Pirates is because Ridley fights smarter not harder, Ridley is actually tactical about how he attacks and uses strategy instead of just walking towards the enemy like a brick wall.

IMO Kraid is a race and the Kraid from SM2 is not the same Kraid in Dread. This also explains the smaller Kraids and resolves some inconsistencies in the cannon.
Im very curious to see where Samus' story will go from Dread. There are numerous options available. She has done a couple things to upset the federation but they are frankly mostly minor things, then there are also her new powers, which I assume are currently just being suppressed. What I would love to see for the next major arc be Samus learning how to harness and control her new powers, while conflict breaks out between the Federation and the Krikken Empire.
I once had an idia that could have ben used for after fusion. This was before dread. My idia was a game called metroid renagade. Samus is an outlaw due to her dstruction of the research station and is shot down on an alian world. Addam is downloaded in a chip and is inside Samus armor like Cortana in halo acting as a partner to Samus. Like uther games she starts with basic armor and abillities due to damage from being shot down. Bounty hunters armed with replicated chozo tech hunt her and she can dowload the tech of beaten hunters. She also has to deal with the planet's hostile alian !life.
Actually, the things she has "done to upset the federation" were probably more so intended to be in service of the federation. The Japanese script of Other M makes it clear that the ongoings on the bottle ship weren't sanctioned by the federation but part of a conspiracy of a militaristic splinter group within the federation iirc, and Samus basically ruined their plan. Remnants of the same group are also responsible for all the sus research on the space station in Fusion, so by destroying the station, Samus basically ruined that groups plans again and at the same time probably would've collected a bunch of evidence to allow the federation to get them locked up. So... yeah, she did the fdderation a service, they probably aren't mad at her, as we can kinda tell with Dread soft implying that she's still taking jobs from them or at least related to the federation.
Kraid is one of my favourite characters in Metroid. I believe Kraid is a species that was trained by the space pirates to be a biological weapon. I once thought that mini Kraid was a baby and the big Kraid is the mother.

I personally like to think of Kraid(s) as the Rancors of the Metroid universe. A species of less intelligent large beasts kept by the pirates, technically part of their faction but not really a ranking member, with them having kept more than one of them over the years. Useful for security and enforcement. Explains Kraid's nebulous position within the pirates, why there are multiple specimens on different planets and in multiple sizes, and why a kraid would not be the leader.
Crazy idea, but what if Kraid and Raven Beak had some kind of history together? The Mawkin clan captures him, he escapes to help on Zebes twice in a row, escapes the planet's destruction (we never actually see him die, just sink into the ground), and with the Space Pirates basically finished after Super, decides he has nothing left to lose and takes one last stab at settling his score with Raven Beak by going to ZDR himself, and ends up captured again. Or, hell, Raven Beak might have sought out capturing him again because he figured if there was anybody that could give him information on Samus, it would be a Space Pirate commander. Yeah, it's stupid, it's contrived, but there's something so fascinating to me about the idea of Kraid having this unseen relation to Raven Beak because his backstory's a blank slate. Especially since that would mean he technically finally got his revenge when the X-Parasite hosting his DNA infected him at the very end of Dread, creating RB-X. After all, X-Parasites absorb the memories and knowledge of their prey - so that X would have taken in the years of torture and imprisonment Kraid suffered at Raven Beak's hand, saw the Mawkin emperor weakened, and taken the opportunity to seal his fate.
Fucking love that idea, honestly. Kraid doesn't seem to be super bright, but he does definitely display basic sentience. There are probably a lot of humans that are less intelligent than Kraid is.
In the game data for Metroid NES, there is an unused Fake Ridley enemy sprite as well. It is fully functional. Seems it was intended to be in-game but did not make the cut.
Personally, I wonder if the reason Space Pirate head honchos keep coming back is a bit of biotech and forks. Even the Federation uses brain uploads to backup important personnel (Adam) so it wouldn't be much of a stretch if the Pirates went a step forward and just... didn't wait for the whole "death" part of that. Two clones of the same individual, sharing the same memories. The fork of Kraid on ZDR gets captured before the one of Zebes, but the two still share memories until the latter dies. It could even mean the fake Kraid we see on Zebes is just a smaller, more mobile body for Kraid to do things that don't involve being huge and nigh-invulnerable.
15:00 in Nintendo Land, you can also damage Kraid from the inside kinda like you can in Metroid Dread. If you play with 2 players, a Gunner can grapple onto the gunship, then jump inside Kraid's mouth and shoot his weak point from inside his belly.
We think the reason why Kraid isn't the leader of the spaces pirate is possibly do to his size only being useful in certain cases, and possibly his intelligence not being on the same level as Ridley and Mother Brain. It's possible he just has raw power but very little brain power, especially with Dread (even though he possibly isn't the same one we seen previously).

Is it weird that I want him in Smash? Somebody made a video of how he could work in Smash. He'd basically be like an in-between of his small Metroid NES size and his canon massive size, dethroning Ridley as the biggest character in Smash. It genuinely makes it feel like you're playing as a legit boss like the brief moments you could play as Giga Bowser and that one time as Master Hand.

I always thought that kraid was a female because of the smaller version of itself in that other one that is a boss was an offspring of it but then I found out about Metroid series loving making clones so yeah I can see great as a guy now.

Imagine if there is a Metroid game where the Kraid species is found out by the federation and decides to send Samus to go kick their ass but decides to have a cloned baby metroid help her on the mission, but then after defeating the emperor Kraid, a baby Kraid hatches but decides to find a hiding spot, and when you find it, it sees you as a non-threat and at the end you give it the federation to study the species and use it for good uses
The implementation of the small Kraid implies that Kraid can reproduce and is actually not the name of an alien but rather the name of a species, which is why he appears in multiple games.

If you played in multiplayer, a grounded player could grapple beam Samus's ship controlled with the GamePad and then try to do some damage to Kraid that way... Felt awesome af

I always thought Kraid's role in the space pirates was not one of leadership but more of an enforcer of sorts, Ridley I always thought was more like the planner, schemer, and strategist; while kraid is definitely muscle but not mental.....
Also in dread we've seen clones several times before, and a genetic memory sort of thing could easily explain his hatred for Samus on sight.....(or he could just be enraged from being in prison there for years and anything remotely looking like a chozo pisses him off.... or maybe that one's just gone feral from Hunger or something)

My take on the space pirate chain of command. Mother Brain is the strategist, Ridley commands the main armada, and Draygon and Phantoon specialize in water combat and fear tactics respectively. Kraid? Kraid is heavy weapons guy. You need to blow a hole in something, his troops are who you call. Now I’m picturing him eating a comically large sandvich.

I wonder if Kraid is more brawn than brains and THATS why Riddley takes the cake because his case reminds me of THE BLACK DRAGON in Mortal Kombat where you have members with magic powers, supersonic speed and the ability to control ground based elements and earthquakes but the leader is some australian crook with a cyber eye and an army knife.
I believe that the reason why Kraid appeared in ZDR is because he's a clone of the original Kraid created by Quiet Robe at the behest of Raven Beak via remaining DNA and samples. Raven Beak probably went to Zebes in search of Metroid DNA, but only found Kraid DNA before Zebes was blown up, and probably tried to make the best out of a bad situation.
Makes sense. 🤔 Raven Beak *_did_* make an incursion to Zebes at some point, after his initial genocide of SR388, so I guess he thought he could repurpose whatever he found there into a bio-weapon.
However, given the place where we find the Clone Kraid and the event depicted in that one Chozo Memory... *I think it's safe to say the poor space croc was deemed a failure.*
I mean, Raven Beak _did_ repurpose him as an obstacle for Samus, but... THE POOR CLONE IS LITERALLY *HANGING OVER LAVA,* with only a measly crane and two cords keeping him up!

I have a personal theory about Kraid after playing Dread, that is that he joined the Space Pirates to hide from the Mawkin by avoiding a leadership position and taking a defensive role to stay hidden, only after the first Metroid game does he learn that the Chozo have disappeared does he take a more offensive role
There's a very odd detail about the fact that as mentioned on the video, Fake Kraid in Super Metroid serves as a gag to remind players of the first game how tall Kraid used to be in the original NES game vs. how big he is on the SNES. However in the GBA remake they omitted Fake Kraid entirely and they retconned Kraid to have always been a giant, so essentially the fake went from a red herring to a non sequitur from a "canon" stand-point

There is a much better and more believable theory for Dread Kraid being the same Kraid: The possibility that there are other Mawkin groups that were off of ZDR at the time of the X infection. It seems kind of dumb to me that this proud and expansive warrior race would have only one planet under their belt. So, while all of the soldiers on ZDR were infected, there may have been a few smaller groups off-planet. These extra troops would have been able to pick up Kraid and chain him. I prefer this theory because I like to think of Kraid as an individual, like Ridley. That, and also the glare he gives Samus. Plus, his gnarly mouth in Dread gives the appearance that it's been blasted with missile barrages at least a couple times in the past.
On a side note, with Dread giving Kraid popularity again, here's hope for his inclusion in Prime 4. Come on, Retro, you know you want to do Meta Kraid!
I think the monster on ZDR glaring at Samus is more to do with him recognizing the Chozo armor than the one wearing it.
@@KidPrarchord95 My problem with that theory is, at the canon time Samus fights Kraid (with the Varia Suit), it really only has a passing resemblance to Mawkin Armor.
Kraid didn't necessarily have to have gone to Zebes and back in between the chozo archives and Dread. It's possible that Raven Beak wasn't the only survivor of the X outbreak and that he managed to get some of his Mawkin brethren off world or into stasis chambers(I mean, Quiet Robe survived and he wasn't even a warrior), and then they captured Kraid afterwards. As for what HAPPENED to those Mawkin... either Kraid killed them, or Raven Beak decided to be a complete dick while opening up Elun and let the X parasites eat them while they were still on the surface.

One thing I like to imagine is that Kraid is the head of the infamous Science Team from the lore in Metroid Prime, the same ones that folded a bunch of pirates in half by shoving them into prototype Morph Balls. 11:04 I agree that it's a different being on ZDR, but there's actually no proof that the OG Kraid died in Super Metroid. In fact, he's the only boss in the game that we don't actually see die on screen. He just burrows underground, still very much roaring and flailing but clearly not dead. He could have easily fled the planet.
Other M/Fusion confirmed that Ridley is essentially dead alongside everything on Zebes, (MoM is a clone and Neo is an X that absorbed its remains) which Dread does treat as canon considering the ending screens.
@@TheOrpheon Just because it's the case for Ridley doesn't necessarily mean it's the case for everything else. I don't see any reason why Kraid couldn't have simply left Zebes if he wasn't actually dead (which, as it stands, isn't really confirmed one way or the other). Given that he's a Space Pirate, one can assume that he's more intelligent than just being wildlife, and thus it is not too far fetched to also assume he'd leave the planet (or, at least be recovered by other pirates).
Phantoon is another boss in the game that we never actually saw die, and he was able to return later. (Granted, he's a bit more of a special case than Kraid, but it's still a bit of evidence) Every other space pirate leader that doesn't appear again, we actually saw them die or at least sustain serious injury (Ridley is torn to shreds, Mother Brain collapsed into dust, Dragon's stomach explodes), but Kraid and Phantoon both just flee from battle, relatively unharmed.
I don't remember Other M or Fusion ever specifying that anything on Zebes other than Ridley and MB, and maybe some wild life, were completely eradicated with the planet's destruction, but even if they did, the Federation has often been wrong or actively lied about things being dead.
tl;dr: Kraid is probably dead, but out of everyone else barring Phantoon, he has the most plausible evidence pointing towards his potential survival.
@@KidPrarchord95 This. Considering how early Kraid was defeated in Super Metroid, and how he didn't die on screen, he definitely could have recovered from his defeat and got in a ship and made it off the planet before its destruction.
Also Phantoon is basically a fucking eldritch horror. It can 'die', but there's really no way that thing can be permakilled. If there's any villain from the previous games that can still appear in a Metroid game, it's honestly probably Phantoon.
Ridley has the title "cunning god of death" (maybe) and kraid constantly exposes the only part of his body that can be harmed by roaring.
I think there's good reason ridley is higher up the chain.

I have always been a big fan of Kraid. Fusion was the first game I played, and I fell in love with Ridley immediately. However when I played zero mission for the first time as a kid and came across Kraid, I had goosebumps, and still do every time I fight the big guy on any game. I have always felt he is underrated, and wanted him to return in the series for over a decade. Was beyond thrilled to fight him again in Dread. Love ya Kraid.

Although i gotta Agree Kraid can be a bit of a pain, Ridley has always been that boss who always beats me consistently on my first run in every Metroid Game with him in it, it even happened in Smash Bros before i unlocked him. I've always found Ridley a bit harder to deal with when it's your first time because of how much damage he tanks and how much he can dish out. Also Kraid probably isn't the leader because he's far too big for the conference table. Space Pirates we're probably lucky enough to accommodate room for Ridley but Kraid would likely set them back a lot.

In terms of Kraid The reason why I think he’s not a leader of the space Pirates is because Ridley fights smarter not harder, Ridley is actually tactical about how he attacks and uses strategy instead of just walking towards the enemy like a brick wall.

IMO Kraid is a race and the Kraid from SM2 is not the same Kraid in Dread. This also explains the smaller Kraids and resolves some inconsistencies in the cannon.
Im very curious to see where Samus' story will go from Dread. There are numerous options available. She has done a couple things to upset the federation but they are frankly mostly minor things, then there are also her new powers, which I assume are currently just being suppressed.
What I would love to see for the next major arc be Samus learning how to harness and control her new powers, while conflict breaks out between the Federation and the Krikken Empire.
I once had an idia that could have ben used for after fusion. This was before dread. My idia was a game called metroid renagade. Samus is an outlaw due to her dstruction of the research station and is shot down on an alian world. Addam is downloaded in a chip and is inside Samus armor like Cortana in halo acting as a partner to Samus. Like uther games she starts with basic armor and abillities due to damage from being shot down. Bounty hunters armed with replicated chozo tech hunt her and she can dowload the tech of beaten hunters. She also has to deal with the planet's hostile alian !life.
Actually, the things she has "done to upset the federation" were probably more so intended to be in service of the federation.
The Japanese script of Other M makes it clear that the ongoings on the bottle ship weren't sanctioned by the federation but part of a conspiracy of a militaristic splinter group within the federation iirc, and Samus basically ruined their plan. Remnants of the same group are also responsible for all the sus research on the space station in Fusion, so by destroying the station, Samus basically ruined that groups plans again and at the same time probably would've collected a bunch of evidence to allow the federation to get them locked up. So... yeah, she did the fdderation a service, they probably aren't mad at her, as we can kinda tell with Dread soft implying that she's still taking jobs from them or at least related to the federation.

Kraid is one of my favourite characters in Metroid. I believe Kraid is a species that was trained by the space pirates to be a biological weapon. I once thought that mini Kraid was a baby and the big Kraid is the mother.

Ah yes, my favourite Metroid Spinoff - Kraid Shadow Legends.
I personally like to think of Kraid(s) as the Rancors of the Metroid universe. A species of less intelligent large beasts kept by the pirates, technically part of their faction but not really a ranking member, with them having kept more than one of them over the years. Useful for security and enforcement. Explains Kraid's nebulous position within the pirates, why there are multiple specimens on different planets and in multiple sizes, and why a kraid would not be the leader.
Crazy idea, but what if Kraid and Raven Beak had some kind of history together? The Mawkin clan captures him, he escapes to help on Zebes twice in a row, escapes the planet's destruction (we never actually see him die, just sink into the ground), and with the Space Pirates basically finished after Super, decides he has nothing left to lose and takes one last stab at settling his score with Raven Beak by going to ZDR himself, and ends up captured again. Or, hell, Raven Beak might have sought out capturing him again because he figured if there was anybody that could give him information on Samus, it would be a Space Pirate commander.
Yeah, it's stupid, it's contrived, but there's something so fascinating to me about the idea of Kraid having this unseen relation to Raven Beak because his backstory's a blank slate. Especially since that would mean he technically finally got his revenge when the X-Parasite hosting his DNA infected him at the very end of Dread, creating RB-X. After all, X-Parasites absorb the memories and knowledge of their prey - so that X would have taken in the years of torture and imprisonment Kraid suffered at Raven Beak's hand, saw the Mawkin emperor weakened, and taken the opportunity to seal his fate.
Fucking love that idea, honestly. Kraid doesn't seem to be super bright, but he does definitely display basic sentience. There are probably a lot of humans that are less intelligent than Kraid is.
In the game data for Metroid NES, there is an unused Fake Ridley enemy sprite as well. It is fully functional. Seems it was intended to be in-game but did not make the cut.

Personally, I wonder if the reason Space Pirate head honchos keep coming back is a bit of biotech and forks. Even the Federation uses brain uploads to backup important personnel (Adam) so it wouldn't be much of a stretch if the Pirates went a step forward and just... didn't wait for the whole "death" part of that. Two clones of the same individual, sharing the same memories. The fork of Kraid on ZDR gets captured before the one of Zebes, but the two still share memories until the latter dies. It could even mean the fake Kraid we see on Zebes is just a smaller, more mobile body for Kraid to do things that don't involve being huge and nigh-invulnerable.
Kraid was always a big man, but it just looks like he put on some weight between Metroid Zero Mission (2004) and Metroid Dread (2021).
15:00 in Nintendo Land, you can also damage Kraid from the inside kinda like you can in Metroid Dread. If you play with 2 players, a Gunner can grapple onto the gunship, then jump inside Kraid's mouth and shoot his weak point from inside his belly.

We think the reason why Kraid isn't the leader of the spaces pirate is possibly do to his size only being useful in certain cases, and possibly his intelligence not being on the same level as Ridley and Mother Brain. It's possible he just has raw power but very little brain power, especially with Dread (even though he possibly isn't the same one we seen previously).

He'd basically be like an in-between of his small Metroid NES size and his canon massive size, dethroning Ridley as the biggest character in Smash.
