Voukoder, the best rendering program. Settings depend on the project and the required delivery format. Crank up the quality slider to max, that's the best quality possible but the file size will be astronomical.
Compared to 19, 20 seems to be just as stable. Good news is that the VEGAS team takes all user feedback as well as crash reports and uses that to make stability improvements every single build!
Very valid point and it has been a very frustrating Achilles heel for this software, but it seems with the last update some 1 month ago, it's actually working a lot better. I haven't encountered freeze or crashes since (knock knock). (I'm on the Vegas 19 post version still but thought maybe I should upgrade).
I was hoping this new version would allow me to create my own custom Title and Text templates that I can post in media generator, so that when I generate some speech to text subtitles, I don't have to edit every line of subtitle, simply to get the format I want (which isn't the default subtitle template). Where can I make this simple suggestion to Vegas?

im using 20 right now, im experiencing unbelievable crashes. i think it might have something to do with the 6700xt video card, my screen goes black all the time and it shuts down and i have to restart the computer. im going back to 19 now
Hello, Josh. What pc hardware you recommend for comfortable edition videos without crash every minute? I have vegas version from 16 to 19 and can't normally using them. Support says just "turn off rendering using gpu, turn ram to zero" and slow down you program after this, this is not cool . This why i ask you what pc you have ? (My pc: 32 gb ram, rtx 3080, 3900x ryzen, and can't use my 19 version of vegas , because crashed every minute)
So from my personal experience it looks like your computer specs are great for editing. They're well over the minimum requirements. I've found that AMD processors are the best for editing while NVIDIA graphics cards are the best for rendering. 32GB of RAM is plenty. I have two editing machines: - Laptop with Intel Xeon processor, NVIDIA Quadro 4000, and 32GB of RAM - Desktop with Ryzen 5900x, RTX 3080, and 64GB of RAM Both machines edit great but the desktop edits a bit better. Your machine should have no issues so that leaves other factors as to why you're having trouble. Can you answer these questions? - What file type of videos are you editing? - What codec are they in? - How are you recording these videos? - Are you using heavy FX and transitions? - Do you have issues immediately once you start editing of after you've been working on them for a while? - Do you have issues rendering? - Have you tried the fixes on this video? ua-cam.com/video/nznEdY4vgaQ/v-deo.html
I have the same setup, of course its more than enough. if you have lots of 4k footage on many tracks, you can rightclick the footage in project media and choose "create video proxy". If the problem persists, there is probably something conflict with other software. just set up another user only for editing with vegas, that might do the trick. or install another instance of windows just for editing.

I just opened 19 to check for updates and it says there are none! My subscription doesn't expire till next year, soooo, what am I missin? Clearly I'm missing the auto update. Or do I have to manually download 20? Figured I'd get a quicker answer from you over them. Cheers man 🍻
Never mind, I figured it out. 19 will not update to 20, you have to download a new installer to get it and wait forever for the downloader to finally download it's many files and the new install of Vegas 20 will begin. Apparently there is some streaming software now included, I have no interest in any of that but I didn't want to break the installation of 20, so I'll probably uninstall that stuff later. So what did I learn? To get Vegas 20 you need to download a new bloated installer program.
Sorry for the late reply. Glad you got it working! Yeah that new installer is good and bad because you can't tell it what you want or dont want. The VEGAS Stream software is okay for streaming but still has a long, long way to go to meet the standard that OBS has set.
I want to build a new system with a RYZEN 7 5700g and 32gb of 3200mhz RAM and NVME drive for OS with SSD Drive for media. HDDs for the rest such as backup imaging. This system will be exclusively only for Video Editing and will have only the OS and the NLE program installed with maybe... photoshop + 3ds max/blender to do some simple 3d titles. It wont be used for internet and other general tasks etc. OS will be Win 10 64bit. I intend to work with the inbuilt graphics for a few months till Graphics cards get down to realistic prices. My projects are all 15 mins max on the timeline. Maybe 1 to 2 tracks of video files and another 5-7 tracks of color solids or text overlays. My videos will be 400mbps Panasonic GH5 type of mp4 clips. Your opinions and suggestions will help. Thanks.
Doesn't sound like they did anything to the UI to help users with 4K monitors, like increase the size of the nodes on envelopes. Perhaps they view 4K as an output-only feature, not an editing component.
Since VEGAS 18 I believe, they added two options in 'Options > Preferences > Display' where you can check "Use High DPI scaling" & Use Alternate HighDPI Settings". These options make multi monitor editing much better for me as one of my editing monitors is a 4k monitor. They designed the UI to be expanded and collapsed which also scales some of the buttons/wheels but that's as far as they go. In all honesty, I've found that editing on a 2K monitor is the sweet spot for me. Everything is JUST the right size and I have plenty of room for my timeline, preview window, FX tabs, and scopes.
@@ScrapyardFilms Well, if you use envelopes it's pretty impossible not only to grab a node, but position your cursor over it. I use two 27" 4K monitors, but I feel like I need something like a 32" monitor to reduce the eyestrain and tightness in my mouse hand. What they've done so far are baby steps. Actually, this is something that should have been user re-sizable long before 4K monitors came out. Maybe not enough people use the envelopes, but in the work I do they're necessary.
To me personally, the best reason to go from 19 to 20 is the HSL Curve addition as well as all the other HSL Curves they will be adding. This makes color grading top tier. But if you happy with your setup as is and the new features don't strike you as something you'll use all the time, then you can stick with 19

I'm in a similar situation, but coming from Vegas 16 Pro. For my case the difference is not worth it, since there's just one of the new features I'd take advantage of. Rendering in the Vegas 20 trial is noticeably faster than in Vegas 16 but nothing mind-boggling, I doubt that "improved hardware support" will account to much, the Vegas' page doesn't go into much detail about it either.
Coming from someone that's had had most versions. Not all. 19 was a big increase from previous years to me ONLY for previews mostly. I had a 3090 since day 1 and before 19 my previews were still buffering more even without effects. But with 19. The proxies are a little better, and I can have 4 full active layers with effects l, color grading and transitions play pretty smoothly without ram preview. For pure scrubbing purposes alone I think the upgrade to 19 is worth it. I don't have 20 yet. But I don't think 20 is much different from 19. But 19 is good. Even on my 3060, and 1650 super computer you notice the program works better with your graphics card. But if you don't have a good graphics card yet, you won't notice the difference in my opinion.
if you have the money for a $1599 graphics card, you sure can afford to go to the latest and greatest Vegas too. I wouldn't risk to cheap out on a piece of software and risk not having the latest support after spending that much on hardware. Just saying...
Don't want be "out of the topic". But I need help. I'm trying do put a border in a cropped vídeo. Sound simple right? But it's impossible. (To me at least ) My chain is a picture in picture and a crop. After that a tried to put a border, but Vegas treat the full frame and nothing I do change that behaviour. Can you bring some tips please?
Not enough to pay the bucks to upgrade. Honestly they could do better than this. Cloud storage and collaboration? That's already something we have and organizing files? Just use a different drop box. A big gripe is how they marketed some features in previous versions, like the text to speech, but never told us we needed a 365 subscription to get those "new features" After numerous crashes which I finally solved thanks to a UA-cam contributor. I would get a popup on restarting asking me if I wanted to get Vegas Post! What a slap in the that was! In any case, if they want any more of my money they'll have to do better than these measly changes. Maybe they should have added the text to speech in this version as a compensation for the "stuff they left out,.. Lol
I believe this version is a little underwhelming due to the fact that they had to change courses from constant upgrades to 19 to an entirely new version. I'm excited for the new features to be added but I understand where you're coming from.

It seems like all the good stuff is locked behind the subscription model. I was extremely upset when I upgraded to 19 and all the features I was excited about were only in the subscription version.
Totally outdated.. I was using this from 2017-2020.. But after that I switched to Premier pro.. Now using DaVinci... I don't think this tool can develop itself equivalent to DaVinci in next 100 yrs.
Since VEGAS is partnered with BorisFX, it is likely that they will never make their own Rotoscoping plugin since Mocha is too great. They are actively working on better keyframing though

How are render speeds now? I remember V17 to V18 was like 30 seconds faster on renders.
Render speeds are just about the same from 19 to 20

VEGAS Capture is still in there but it doesn't seem like any changes have been made to it from 19 to 20

I'm gonna tell you one similarity - it's still pile of horse crap code that crash all the time just try to edit HVEC 4K files from DJI drones.

Use davinci... Leave this garbage.. If you think davinci is hard.. Trust me... It look complex but that is 100x more better than any other tool

Color grading panel and VSTs are for all. Only stuff using outside servers requires ongoing payment, which makes sense.

Doesnt really look worth it at all from 19 lol. The only selling point if we get benchmarks is if it utilizes hardware better for rendering speeds.
Then you'll want to wait until they keep upgrading it. Eventually the newer features that they add will make it worth it to most people.

Since VEGAS is partnered with BorisFX, it is likely that they will never make their own Rotoscoping plugin since Mocha is too great. They are actively working on better keyframing though
