@@rosetzu_nagasawa Hello - I use this feature every time i edit , especially with multiple cameras. So when I find the right frame in one clip and that is the exact spot where I want a second clip (camera) to play. if you move the mouse to click and move the second clip, the play head follows and you will lose the first spot along with all the time and effort spent locating. Another trick I use is to create a (M) Marker so that I can find that place again. Then I delete the markers that I used for place holders before rendering.

In regards to companies sending you products or license keys to their software products. For the people that consider that a sponsor deal, They clearly don't understand how little value a license key or a product is to a UA-camr with a few followers. So many companies will throw their products at you that it becomes more of a nuisance. Even a license key has no value because you already have a video editing software that you use in your workflow and it is unlikely that you would switch to their video editing software.

Audio wise, VST-3 plug-in support was recently added to Vegas. There are still issues with Vegas integrated DAW, like the lack of side-chaining (for audio ducking and such). I have been a Vegas (and Sound Forge) user since the initial audio-only version of Vegas, which was published in 1999 by Sonic Foundry, Vegas was eventually acquired by Sony Pictures and then by Magix in 2016.

Like your last look at Vegas 20, I think this is a fair and honest look at Vegas, although not as in depth. Several of the points you mentioned, like lack of audio tools, or upgrading the look of the visual UI are what people do agree with.
But for me, I find the UI easy to use. No, it ain't "pretty", but for me, it's functional and I get things done. At first, I thought it was ugly and wouldn't touch it with your keyboard and mouse. Now, I find it simple, quick and easy to use. Familiarity .... on the other hand, I find Resolve Studio not so friendly. Lack of familiarity on my part.
I personally feel that Vegas is on the edge of becoming a much better editing software, but it's still "rough" around the edges. Hoping in time they get there.

There have actually been a ton of audio updates, but they've been happening under the hood... a lot of work had to be done to get VST3 not just working, but working bug-free, and that work continues to this day. This is why they aren't putting a ton of time into new audio features yet... can't build on a foundation of sand. They're pouring the concrete.

  • @ovationplayers

Takeaway #1 is spot on. Vegas lost several coders to retirement and attrition after the owners changed, and the 2nd generation at Magix may not fully understand the legacy features, or wish to update them, what with the push for more market-driven stuff like bilinear HSL and an abundance of color wheels.

    • @Reyfox1
      @Reyfox1 10 місяців тому

A lot of the "originals" are still there working on the software. But a major overhaul would require a lot of money, talent and time. No one at Magix is onboard with Vegas.
Sadly, keeping up with other software is something all software try and do. Copy each other. So, all those "color grading" stuff is a necessity if Vegas is going to compete at a higher level than before. Using color curves is amazing. Glad it's there.

Did you try the MultiCamera editing tool which I use a lot in VP? I find that Multicamera editing is difficult to use in Resolve and almost impossible to use in Premiere. In Vegas Pro it is easy to set up multicamera editing. I have even asked experienced Resolve and Premiere editors to help me figue out how to do multicamera edit in those programs and found that none of them have ever tried to use multicamera editing and when they investigated how to do it in Premiere or Resolve they could not get it to work. I talking about where you have 2 or 3 cameras rolling simultaneously and an external audio recorder recording audio. Then having cameras and external audio on separate tracks on the timeline synced together and being able to switch from one camera to another on the fly as you are viewing the video on the time line. I first export the tracks from Vegas Pro to PluralEyes for syncing and then export the tracks back into Vegas Pro for multicamera editing.

Vegas is great editing tool, always has been, but one little thing is a huge issue. I was not able to find how to prevent Vegas auto scaling everything to a comp size.
They have like 20 options related to that (which is beyond idiotic) and with that auto scale working it is pointless for me to use it, I will always have to use parallelly with

To keep your play head cursor locked in place, what you can do is first move the play head, then place a marker (M) Key. Then do all the work you need to do. you can move things to the marker. Finally, when you're done, you can remove the maker by right clicking the maker and selecting delete. This is how I get around it.
For audio scrubbing I don't have a solution. However, What I usually do is click and drag on the timeline to select a region. Next turn on the loop and play the video. The video will repeat. While this runs I can shorten the region and move it around allowing me to find exactly the sound I need. You can also do this manually using the play and stop button. Just place the play head cursor where you want the audio to start. Then press play. Whenever you want to hear it again press stop, and the cursor will return to the play head. Pause will not return the cursor to the play head. So use stop instead. I use this a lot when trying to sync a sound to a visual. This gives me great precision.
The audio plugins and user interface are outdated in my opinion. One this I wish Vegas would do is show the waveform audio volume changes in the even when you update a plugin. And I wish you can raise the audio levels above 100% on the timeline. The only way to make your audio louder is to use a plugin which you cannot see how loud the waveform is. So, what I do to remedy this problem is lower all the audio levels on the timeline and then raise all of the audio either with a bus or track audio. In order to see the waveform better for quiet audio since you lowered it, I use Shift + Up and Shift + Down to increase or decrease the waveform height.

At this point only a bunch of people had the idea to use it for something like that new "UA-cam-Video-internet-Thing". And in 2006 we had more than only UA-cam. No one had an idea, who will win the fight of the videoplatforms. Some crazy people linke me, tried to create videos whith gamescenes. Nevermind there could grow a big commercial market arround something like "let´s plays". But i was young, had no money - My computer couldn´t run the most of the new games.
In 2013 i bought my first camera (Canon Eos 600D Full HD) and started to create videos until today. And i still use Sony Vegas and had some of the "crashy" versions 13 and 14.

I've heard of vegas pro a long time ago when it used to be just a DAW and recently after the 21 release gave it a shot and it was alright. They added bunch of tools but it feels like they are adding fresh coat of paint on rusty metal. It crashed so many times on my PC in the first 20 mins and it was very slow and odd to work with those pop up views of those newly added AI effects and they were no were near as fast or accurate as Resolve. Vegas is not good for surround editing. You can add panning infomation to individual audio tracks, but as soon as you want to do something with multiple tracks at the same time e.g volume. it is not possible. No track grouping and the 5.1 audio bus from pro ignores the track panning information. I am currently looking into resolve because of the poor audio support in Vegas.

The lack of audio updates in Vegas drives me nuts an it’s not even my NLE of choice. That being said, decent surround editing is probably low on the list of priorities, because it’s not something the majority of their target market uses.

      That's odd.
While, ever since I blew my surround sound 4 or so years ago I don't even bother with 5.1, a few years ago up to & including Vegas 16 that I use, 5.1 mixing was EXTREMELY EASY in Vegas for me. And I am a very slow learner.
In project settings / Audio / Master Bus Mode . 5.1 Surround. The little surround box shows up on the left of the track now. Easy to place the sound where you want. You can even add an envelope to keyframe-move the sound to anywhere you want during play.
I take it (since I haven't used 5.1 surround in years but it's still the same format as it was when i did religiously), the more they changed/updated, the more they screwed up what was working fine years ago???
Even on Vegas 16 I see how your "grouping" of 5.1 channels complaint is relevant. I can group multiple tracks & change positions but usually only from front to back, not side to side, and even then it's flaky. Seems like it'd be a quick & simple bug fix if they'd spend a couple hours, tops, on it! Otherwise, it all works great for me....
Selecting multiple track envelopes and manipulating them is also pretty easy for me to do with almost no problems (with, of course, the usual Vegas frustrating issue of Vegas sometimes automatically adding keyframes wherever your region begins and end.. but that just adds like 6 seconds of more work to delete those new unwanted keyframes).
And I hope 21 does work because I get a home 5.1 surround system in a couple months so I will be wanting to edit in 5.1 again soon after.

I used Vegas years ago. I didn’t like it then, and it still looks just as crappy.
I have used every NLE on the market, and I have not found any that are better than Resolve.
My second choice is AVID, but I haven’t touched it in 5 years. Resolve does everything anyone need, from beginner to professional.

Vegas is definitely a bit aesthetically outdated. But functionally speaking, it’s pretty good!

@danielisapinto841, I agree that Vegas is better for PC. While Resolve can be used on a PC, it is geared and engineered more towards Apple/Mac, which is now the industry standard system used in the majority of professional post-production houses, this is why Resolve is now the main editing system used industry-wide.
Plus, Resolve is the only all-in-one editing system/suite, which is a HUGE plus. I, for one, HATE having to switch back and forth between programs for graphics work, like has to be done when using Adobe, Vegas, AVID, etc., and Resolve is also the only buy once and you’re done system. I REFUSE to pay a monthly extortion fee to use an editing system.

When I started editing with the Amiga/Toaster around 1990, it was just fun. Then Commodore bit the big one (greed). Moving to the PC and it's NLE's. Throughout all the years I've seen Vegas, I always thought it was "butt ugly" and looked confusing..... until I bought a Humble Bundle VP14 Edit for $25. I figured, why not. Well, 2 weeks later, I bought the Suite. Each year upgrading. I took to it like a fish to water.
Yes, the interface may not be "modern" looking, but for me, does it work. I made the mistake of judging a book by it's cover... without reading it. Now, I enjoy the book immensely.
      We all have our preferences....

I gave up on Resolve due to all the crashes - at the time I left the FB group because I couldn't listen anymore to all the complaints about crashes and lost work.

Let's see.... hmmm..... he gets a license, which I guess is for one year subscription, which does expire. How much does that cost compared to the amount of time it takes to put the video together? He 's lost money in the process....
How many hours do you think he spent doing this? Does the cost of the software cover that? It wouldn't in my world.
And it's clear, he isn't switching....

No, don't ever switch to this software. As a vegas editor I can say that last capable person that worked in vegas left 10 years ago. Now there are only trashbag developers left there who make things worse and worse. Last implementation by those creative idiots is something that makes your vegas stuck for 5 seconds every time you leave vegas window and click back to it. They are also implementing AI masking which worsk worse than worst online masking editor you can find online. If you are new to editing, don't ever consider to edit with this obsolete idiotism

Well, as long as your computer can handle it, I don't see a reason to use Vegas over Resolve. I mean Resolve can do 3D renders, allow you build your own plugins and code, handle RAW footage smoothly, etc. However, you are correct in that the best software for anyone is the one they get the best results with or at least run on their computer.@@danielisapinto841

I give it to Resolve in their pricing structure. Free with some (to me) major parts missing, or spend once and in the current world, upgrade forever for that initial cost. But there is more to life than just the cost of something. Their is usability for the person. I find for "me", Vegas a lot easier to use. I also own Resolve Studio (got it when the Speed Editor was first released and came with it), but still prefer Vegas and pay to upgrade yearly if the upgrade is beneficial to me.
The cost of upgrading during say, Black Friday, is nominal to me. And if averaged out over a year, people spend way more at Starbucks for a product they will piss out later and have nothing to show for it.
