I used the box grip for my first few months of hitting and then my buddy’s stepbrother told me to line up my knuckles… used that grip for my slow pitch softball season and whenever I hit now such a big difference with the control

I like your swing and your breakdowns but l have a question about the box grip vs knuckles lined you start the swing with knuckles lined then you crank your back elbow (l like that although not everyone does it but certainly a lot of players do) ok but when yo crank your elbow doesnt that twist your grip to the box but as you untwist back to knucles lined ir palm up palm down there is a lot of power in the twist and untwist (and that is for lower half as well as upper half) that twist and untwist goes along with a video l saw on ben hogans golf swing it gets involved about the hand and palm only being 12and 1/2 percent of hand. Any way l was working on that last summer off my pitching machine and swing through posted front leg keeping bat long through hitting zone which gave me the feel you call the catch and throw uh l think bat speed is most after contact. Any way l am looking at your swing looked at mike trouts elbow up trouts top hand apprears to be in a punching position l like that and l like to feel bottom hand is cupped the untwist move with my wrists gives me a feeling of getting into a good position to swing the sweet spot through l am now going to look back at old timer ralph kiner he apprears to have knuckles lined up in the grip and then cranks back elbow reason for singling out kiner back elbow but no gloves on l think l can see better how the hands work l would believe he is top hand hitter you are me too and many others

Hi Jermaine. I really enjoy your site. I personally have to use the in-between grip in order to hold my back elbow up. What grip pressure do you use? Even as a 60 year old player with good power, I am always interested in your opinion.

      Hey Randy,
I always used the knuckles lined up. It helped me to eliminate swings and misses and allowed me to drive the baseball more consistently.

I teach knocker knuckles. The trick is getting players to believe me and this video should help! Players "feel" stronger with death grip or gorilla grip but they aren't hitting as hard as they could be as demonstrated in your vid. Thanks!

I think he has a very good idea on hitting. He teaches the big league swing. Nothing wrong about it. What are your thoughts?

The vast majority of MLB power hitters do not line up their door knocking knuckles. There are some that do, Aaron Judge seems to be in that camp.
The majority are closer to lining up their “door knocking” on their top hand with their punching knuckles of their bottom hand, or somewhere in between.
The death grip is clearly not a good way to hold the bat

@@JermaineCurtis55 NP, I was not saying lining them up are good or not good.
Just that is seems to be a preference. I’m 42, didn’t play pro but I did play D1 college. When I was 11 I was told to line them up, I was certainly over gripping a bit.
I tried it for a while, ended up settling somewhere in between. As the years have gone on I have barely heard anyone talk about lining up your knuckles.
Recently, I have heard 3-4 people including yourself talk about it.
I used to go hit with Jesse Barfield and his son Josh when I was in college.
I remember asking him about it, his opinion was “some guys do and a lot don’t, I did not, as long as you are not over gripping it doesn’t matter”
      Everyone has an opinion

@@JermaineCurtis55 I haven’t thought about this in years.
I quickly grabbed a bat to see how I naturally hold it, I was much close than I though to having my knuckles lined it. I wouldn’t say the were exactly lined up, but pretty close
