Baptiste is definitely underrated, glad someone is talking about him!
That outright face is the only underrated thing I see (jk), Baptistery do be underrated tho
*yeeah, yeaaaah man* miss u pedro
Baptiste is a god. How the hell do you even get this good????
Uploading a video of our lesson in the next few days!
SUPER underrated channel you've got here, even for the musically illiterate folks like me
That’s interesting because I feel like I have too many subscribers! Haha thank you
@@Saxologic no way!!
@@Saxologic couldn’t be more wrong
So true. His videos are so interesting and of great quality.
@@Saxologic Nah this channel is fire!
I can’t believe you got visited by Charlie Parker at the beginning. He knew you were going to reading about him. I’m jealous.
LMAOOO
:0 I see what you did there
was the joke that there was a bird on his table? Lmao I hate and love jazz jokes
3:59 "so now listen to it"
*demonic screeching
Ya did it! NICe!
This was the first thing I saw when the video loaded
You spoiled it!!! Lol
Wow Nathan you were literally visited by the Bird while transcribing!
As a non-sax player, it just sounds like he’s improvising a solo, whereas the mariokart lick sounds like it’s planned and written as part of the song. He Mario kart composer is a genius.
No way herbin came up with that on the spot,.. mabye some patters he new just came together to make that but it was planned lol
@whoiscoltranewhyishechanging Mabye some of it was improv and some was planned. Like knowing certain patterns on your horn and knowing how to mix them with other patterns to create a crazy sounding lick
"Hello, it is 2:09 AM" is a phrase I never thought I'd hear and relate to so hard
Reading bird’s biography with a bird.
And another bird was watching (that is also my nickname band director even made that joke when I joined (about Charlie Parker that is))
12:34
You couldn’t deal with your own failure, and where did that bring you? Back to me. Lmao the Mario cart lick
I'm glad to see Baptiste Herbin is famous outside France 🙂. I had the chance to gig with him on 'Blues for Alice' and it was really great (even if I did not have his practicing level 😅).
Great job of transcribing this lick 👍
What was it like?
@@Saxologic I didn't feel confident but Baptiste is a very nice person, and I enjoyed this session :)
baptiste really is a beast, big inspiration
God tier practice philosophy right there. Mad respect.
You tell em Nethan, You tell the World!!
I wanna get to your level someday, you're incredible man!
I love the content, super underrated, I have been playing for almost a year and a half, just joined the orchestra and its hard, but I keep fighting because people like you inspire me so much, keep up the work man! Your the best!
I'm super glad you've done these videos on Baptiste because you've really turned me onto him! Always nice to be alerted to players that I might not have found otherwise!
Wow man your video and editing quality has massively improved! Your effort does not go unrecognized!
Eyy another dude that climbs, a man of culture
Your playing is legit, but you also have such a clear way of explaining things that I really like. Whenever I see you talking about a practice method or why a certain concept is important I always find myself going "YES! THIS GUY gets it!" Thanks for the great content!
I just went back and watched some of your first videos! It’s awesome to see your progression!!!
Absolutely love how you demistify your practice and transcription, it helps me figure out how to best practice the thinngs I like!
You’ve become my favorite Saxophone channel. Like you’ve skyrocketed to the top once I started watching you a couple months ago.
Wow, this sounds awesome! Seeing the way you practice and understand is really interesting!
Love how you analyse it before even try to play it ! Great technique i'll try it, thanks man ✨
I clicked faster than when yo grades can drop
That’s pretty Fast
Hey man don’t challenge my grades; they are formidable competition at a thing like that
but my grades dropped faster.........
@@Saxologic I mean I know you did good
Thanks for your videos! I appreciate your goofball sense of humor and respect the talent you’ve taken loads of time to cultivate! And thanks for turning me on to Baptiste Herbin! I’m just diving in to explore more alto sax players (Art Pepper was added earlier this year).
Thanks for the content! I’ve subbed. Looking forward to picking up to practice tips and watch your progress.
u k it’s gonna be a good vid when he’s recording at 2 am
I have no idea what all this music talk means because im dumb. But I just like to listen to Saxologic talk about it and then perform it.
muy chulo! or Very coool Nathan. I'd like to buy a copy of the transcript. I love that descending whole tone pattern; one of the most interesting patterns and should be an essential part of our jazz vocabulary.
Hey man, that whole tone pattern I think comes from Bud Powell. He played it on Just One Of Those Things, the solo version. Check it out man!
Bro I love this so much. Love seeing the work behind the genius. Keep it up
Awesome vlog. Best one on transcription process I've seen by far. Well done man. Thx.
Thanks for your video bro you and your brother work hard and its gonna pay off, keep up the good work!
thank you for this whole tone lick transcription, gonna work on that!
I really appreciate your methodical approach to analysis.
I luv that warm up
sooooo good, as someone in my highschools worst band, i wish I could play even close to this well
My alto saxophone teacher has been mentioning alot of these things, and i knew they were important but it was cool to actually see a lot of it applied
Thank you for sharing!
I need that poster!!!!
Also I just want you to know that you’ve really inspired me to step up my saxophone game. I am a sophomore in high school and I’m looking to go into music, similar to what you do. I’m really excited. I really just love the language of jazz and I want it to be apart of my life forever. Anyway thanks for the awesome vids. Also I need that poster😂
Thanks so much, man. Cheers, from Chicago!!!
We all loved that funny mario cart snip bit!
Insane transcription!
Love these music analysis videos 😊
Awesome cd!!!
Man this is impressive! Awesome work.
I really dig this video format dude! Great work :)
Thanks man!
You really give a lot of really useful info transcribing thank you
Great video. It's great to see the process and even one that we can follow and copy... Wow 130 BPM awesome... Cool Posters.
I will literally comment this every upload but I’m a bassist and don’t play sax but I LOVE your channel. So helpful and entertaining❤️
Always honored to have non-sax players checking out my content. Thanks man, welcome :)
Bassist here as well, and I love how he just goes in depth about the intervals and their purpose. Makes me feel more confident about my soloing and what makes an important bassline.
"Its 2:09AM.... let's get started" XD
College in a nutshell.
4:00 best horror movie soundtrack ever
Loving the vlog style vids!
U do teh pracc, and I enjoi, ty nethen
Lol
It's really cool to see how much more comfortable yes gotten in just a few months if this
I love this style of video, please do more
That was some real nice shredding
You are an insane player. Love the vids. Now I’m gonna go test play some saxes
Eres un crack! Muchas gracias por todo! ❤
Herbin's articulation is so unreal!
Baptiste Herbin just pulls the craziest stuff on whim... the recording of his solo with Ali Jackson is so disgustingly good.
definiteley the best music channel
I met Herbin once when he came to Thailand years ago. He is such a monster!
Man you have such a great jazz sound!
Most satisfying sound of the whole video 5:42. Also I love you 😆
Yeah Nethan keep it up 💯
Yo Baptiste is a geniusssss. Downright legend
keep up the good vid's! You have inspired me to go and follow jazz lessons instead of classical (that I have been doing for 8 years).
as a saxophone player who doesn't know much about patterns and structuring within music, this hurts my brain yet i love it.
Glad to see you're enjoying Miami! UM has a helluva nice campus. Great vid as always.
Loved that book! The audio book is amazing as well!
Nice profile picture
Good job!
What an interesting pattern, I see a decending major7 pattern in whole steps going on there too.
You could also see the pattern as 1-3 and then going down the bebop scale and continuing with the next tonic being the b7 which you landed on
This year back in April my marching band was supposed to go to France for our bi-yearly trip and our jazz band (me included) and we were scheduled to play at a jazz club in Paris. Baptiste Herbin was supposed to play with us too. It would have been a great experience but unfortunately it didn't come to be because of obvious reasons. Hopefully in the future I will be able to meet with him!
I finished my undergrad at UM in 2019, too bad we didn't overlap at all. Enjoy it while you can, it goes by in an instant!
I enjoyed this. I should have subscribed when I first found your channel over 2 years ago. Sorry, mistake corrected.
I have to practice a solo and this helped so much
that lick is nuts!
The lick master at it once again
I am not a master of anything but I am a master of loving u
12:34 LOOOOL that's was amazing bro
The ending is the best part 😂
;)
I literally had no basic understanding of jazz until I started watching this mans videos
i love the way that he just ROCK that saxophone out
J’adore ta chaîne merci
Frost is intense... have fun there!
I love the part of the vid at the end titled “Ritual”
You're my Idol Sir!❤️ I'm also a Saxophone player. But you're so cool😁
i played bass trombone for ohio all-state jazz with edgar last year, man is an absolute monster
Brutal lick!
Very familiar with that patio. Go Canes!
wow that's fire
Love it! Great video! Have you gotten any closer to 170 since this video was uploaded? Also love the little look at the campus, the slice of life, seems like an amazing place, at least visually lol
Congrats! You got the hair of Kenny G and the sound of Baptiste Herbin!
When he got to 120 bpm and made all the faces and kept starting and stopping I felt that in my soul because I do the same exact thing. Not with music like this, but still difficult for me
I might try learn this lick on guitar, wish me luck!! Also that poster is fireeee
Sounds like it would be an absolute shred on guitar. Good luck!
@@Saxologic thanks man! You gotta make an update to this video in a couple weeks and I can compare my progress ;)
that last ritual hit different
12:35 haha the Mario Kart lick returns!
I read that when it first came out. The Charlie Parker biography is awesome.
the ending got me so good XD
