i have been on 4 of the 2mg of Xanax bars daily for more than 10 years. So i take between 6-8 mgs at night for sleep. I do have anxiety and insomnia, always have. I am a retired Police Officer and after 25 years working the night shift, mainly because I have insomnia, it was easier for me to be awake all night running call to call than a lot of the other officers i worked with. I think now the constant 5 nights a week working 10pm-8am takes it's toll. and even worse if you were being deposed by the suspects counsel he knew you worked nights so invariably he would have you meet him at around noon just to see if you would show up, so no sleep that day. There were many, many times i would find myself going through a court cycle, traffic court and testifying with absolutely no sleep at all for 72 hours and more that was no excuse to not show up for briefing at 10pm. Gotta tell you that was hard. And I don't even think it is safe for a uniformed officer is safe that sleep deprived. Never took Xanax when i was a Police Officer. It was after retirement I was a hot mess. My body wondered why I wasn't going to work and would lay awake until the sun came up. Now after being on this for more than 10 years with 300 mgs of Doxepin at night for sleep it is the only way i can sleep. I have enough sense to know yes i am addicted but the thought of the not sleeping for days on end I can't face that again, not taking it. I do not drink alcohol, never have, grew up with an alcoholic father so i believe in that genetic predisposition and being in law enforcement you dealt with inebriated people every shift. But on the other hand I don't drink but i guess that familial trait manifests itself in the use of Xanax for me, not alcohol. I have been on more meds for sleep that i can recall and the combo of the 2 drugs I take i can finally sleep. And if anyone, especially night shift workers, I know they can relate to the horrors of going days without sleep. The human body and it's circadian rhythm are supposed to sleep at night, not during the day. Great video, glad I found you. Sorry for the ramble. Take care.
Really a good video. Great job going through everything. You didn’t give your credentials that I recall. But you presented facts in an unbiased way. Cheers.
1:46 YES That's what I told my doc, even if I'm not having panic attacks now, makes me relaxed to know that if I do there is something that I can take to help.
🎧 I was on Xanax for years. I am bipolar and have complex PTSD. When it worked, I would fall asleep. When I became dependant on it, I don't think that it worked very well anymore. I was still in regular contact with the person who sexually assaulted me regularly when I was a child and he still had the means to control my life as I was occasionally financially dependant on him and knew that I would rely on his help when I had financial emergencies. I was desperate to subdue my anxiety. I ended up with a psychiatrist who was unwilling to prescribe Xanax long-term and she weaned me off of it. I couldn't tell anyone about the sexual assault or the involvement of that person in my life. I have a theory, that psychiatric medications cannot overcome the anxiety or fear of a situation where the cause of PTSD is still happening.
I stayed to the end of the video. I listened. And the one thing I don’t think but KNOW, is that you have never had a full fledged panic attack much less numerous ones. You’re way too glib and off hand about the absolute truth that as water quenches fire, benzos quench an unimaginable, unearthly, unspeakable, beast called panic. The fact that Alprazolam and others in its class are abused has absolutely ZERO to do with the allopathic and therapeutic effect given to those who suffer. Rather than blaming the substance, blame the mindset which holds that “if one is good, two must be better.”
🎧 Interesting... I have been on and off (mostly on) benzos for about 20 years, because of crippling anxiety. Mostly it has been klonazepam, but also alprazolam. I never have had Really Big problems with withdrawals, and honestly its REALLY no cure for anxiety, it just cuts off the highest peaks, and I have Never gotten high from benzos. Recently I instead of my usual klonazepam, got diazepam...and there are barely any likeness at all; diazepam just makes me sleepy, but unable to sleep, and it almost doesn't effect my anxiety at all. It feels like people should know that "benzos are benzos" Really isn't true, but apparently not even the doctors get this... It sure feels hopeless at times. Edit: I referred to My doctors not understanding...not you -:)
@@beatrizrosado898 Yeah, and I've been wandering a long, hard road to hopefully get there too. Edit: Sorry, she wasn't a psychiatric, she was a doctor in psychiatry
I no longer ever need them (it has been 8 years since I've taken one), but the Clonazapine 1mg pill was life saving. The relief from the very severe panic attacks is hard to explain.
The withdrawals are devastating! Worse than opiates, I know! Xanax withdrawal will completely alter your state of mind, you feel like your brain is outside your body, you won’t sleep for weeks and if u do you’ll only get an hour here n there, you’ll sweat uncomfortably hands shake you’ll barely be able to hold a cup of water, I believe it’s the devil
@@Pete23269 I don't disagree, they should be literally treated like a fire alarm. Only break the glass when there's an actual fire but these things get you hooked. It's literally worse to come off than heroin.
Again this video is bought to you by someone who has never experienced a panic attack, does not have PTSD, or an anxiety disorder of any kind. Antidepressants do not help with panic attacks or anxiety.
Headphones? I don’t understand but i stayed til the end. I have been taking lorazepam PRN for years and clonazepam daily for about 1 year. I don’t want to stop them but I’m scared of what would happen if my doctor said i needed to. My diagnosis is schizoaffective bipolar type, and the lorazepam helps me with paranoia and I take the clonazepam for sleep. I see all kinds of horrible withdrawal stories online and it’s scary.
I take clonazepam for GAD. It has helped me to such a huge extent. I used Ativan to get past my panic disorder, and now klonazepam for anxiety and sleep as needed. They didn’t allow them at all in the hospital (on the ward), and I ended up taking seroquel and ganapentin all day and vistaril at night, which did nothing. It was pretty awful, when a low dose would have made a huge difference. People say how bad they are, but living without something would be so much harder.
Most DRs are caught up on the newer literature on the dangers of benzos. Besides for panic attacks, seizures, and alcohol withdrawal it's rarely prescribed nowadays. Of course it will depend on the doctor, but IMO except for the aforementioned cases liberal prescription of benzos is irresponsible.
*insert headphone emoji here* Some more negatives: using benzodiazepines is also associated with muscle weakness and falls (especially in the elderly), and there is an association with traffic incidents and the use of benzodiazepines.
I take 2mg daily of Klonopin for my Generalized Anxiety Disorder w/ Panic Attacks, and Bipolar 1. It helps me but I also take Celexa off box for anxiety, which we had to increase because my anxiety is so bad all the time. I don't get any big side effects. I really need it. 🎧
Take for my epilepsy😉 been on it for 6 years. Helps very much, it's like the whipped cream on my Sunday. With all my other AEDs I mean. They work wonders together.
🎧 I really don’t want to disclose my medication regime for PD, GAD & Epilepsy.
