I have been on alprazolam for thirty years now. I started at 3 mg daily for 27 years and 2 mg daily for the past three years. I stepped down by myself over the course of a week with no problems. I started at 34 and am now 64. Still taking 2 mg a day with no issues. Maybe I am an anomaly but I have no issues with memory. I do not think I will ever stop, not because I can not, but because I need sleep. All the traumas come out to play as soon as the lights go off and it gets quiet. I am also on antidepressants and get Spravato once a week. Counselor once a week too. I hate being alive! I wish my memory would fade away!

i've been taking alprazolam 30 years. For about 5 of those years I took 2mg. I've taken 1 mg for the past 20 years. I've never had to increase my dose. I only take it at bedtime, so any impairments are a non-issue since i'm going to sleep, not out driving or doing my bills. I'm 58 now. I don't know if I will end up with dementia or not, but I haven't had a problem so far.

No dementia here! I take mine at bed time too! Soooo many people are diagnosed with dementia that I do not believe it is caused by any one thing. What about people diagnosed who have never ever taken any kind of drugs! I am definingly not going to worry about it! I will be 65 this summer. @@lorrielephew1966

I am paying for this visit by paying my health insurance premium. Also I don't believe I should be treated this way, if doctors don't want to spend time with me, like I am invisible, then they are in the wrong occupation. They want money then go to New York and be a dog walker, they will make plenty. Poor dogs tho, they will probably just sit in one spot, then take them home.

I’m 53 and I have MCI. I’m on the Exelon patch for that and it’s working pretty well. I also have borderline diabetes/insulin resistance. I was in an extremely stressful, abusive relationship and he left. My doctor said the elevated cortisol kicked up my blood sugar and pushed me over the edge for these health conditions. I was also going through menopause during all this, which didn’t help. I have trouble with my ADLs and executive function, but I can do it. I’m just slower at things than other people and can’t pack a bunch of things into one day or all at once. It’s hard because people don’t understand and I don’t have much support because I’m still young for that and people can’t see that particular disability. I get extremely bad anxiety when I’m pressured, and I then run and isolate myself. Apathy is a big one. It’s very difficult to fight, but I do it. However, that also causes very bad anxiety. I can also look back and see that I had prodromal symptoms. Please give me the contact information that you mentioned because I can really benefit from a practitioner who understands and that I can trust.

I was prescribed xanax for my anxiety. It was the white 2mg bar. At first, I would take 1/4s, but that didnt help. That led to 1/2s, and within 2 weeks, it was a full bar at a time. The first time I took the entire white xanax 2mg bar, I had memory loss. I couldn't remember events throughout the day, I felt sleepy, unmotivated, and it made me depressed. After a few days of taking the entire bar, people noticed I was changing. I felt like a numb shell who couldn't remember basic things. I decided to stop taking xanax, flushed the remaining pills, and switched to a different clinic.
I eventually started seeing a therapist. After a few months, I felt confident in my self. Since then, I haven't had anxiety issues. I felt like the therapist really understands me. I felt like I wouldn't amount to anything, and she explained to me how everything we see, it's not as it seems. No matter how big or small, what i do matters, my family will always love and support me, and I will always be loved by the people around me. I'm simplifying a lot.
I'm glad the xanax didnt have any withdrawal symptoms. I wasnt even aware of withdrawals until this video. I'm glad I was too scared to take it regularly. I didnt like how I felt, but I realized it was better than being anxious and not wanting to leave my house. I hated life, but now, it's ok lol 🤪

I feel like often times doctors either prescribe too much Xanax for some people or not at all for people who can really benefit and need it. I have been taking on average half a milligram a couple times a week for sleep for years now and I have never had any issues or side effects of any kind, and it has been incredibly helpful. Sometimes I would be unable to sleep during times when it is critical and even dangerous if I am not adequately rested and the Xanax has been a life saver. And in general I am much better rested and better functioning having access to it a couple times a week. But sometimes I have really struggled to get even this small amount prescribed which has been very detrimental to my well being and functioning.

Whoa!!! I have no choice in needing to take benzos and have had to for the last 19 YEARS due to an extremely rare neurological muscle disease I have called Stiff Person Syndrome. Only 1 or maybe 2 people out of every million people get this disease which causes severe, disabling, and veryyyyy painful muscle spasms that can last hours/days/and our lifetimes. These muscle spasms are so severe they can and do break bones/spinal damage as well due to them slamming into the spine. There are no other medications to treat this disease. and In my case, I do not show the antibodies where 60% are positive for GAD and 40% are negative. I am in the 40% group, so I do not qualify for the 'only' 2 other treatment options available, IVIG or plasmapheresis, but those do not always work either and you still need the same medications after.
I am 56 now, and I guess I am guaranteed, according to the statistics you found that I definitely 100% will end up with Dementia/Alzheimers. Guess I better prepare now while I can. There is not any way possible I can go without these meds, they are the first line of treatment. I would be bed-bound (and was!) while STILL suffering severe muscle spasms regardless. There is "quality of life" and needing the ability to function I do desire to try to keep!
I have heard the same thing from Dr. Boz here on UA-cam in her videos and live shows she puts on every Tuesday.
The hard thing IS when you have a disease as I do that does require these medications and you have no other way to treat them. Keto/Carnivore will not ever take this away. This is a central nervous system disorder and the wiring in our brain and spinal cord is wrong to begin with, thus causing this disease.
Seems like a bleak future as I see/look at it ahead! Yikes! I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, as the saying goes! The worst part is I have NO choice in the matter - this IS what I was dealt with in life...
Maybe I CAN work hard with my brain now, doing puzzles, intentionally going over the years and even current days remembering things purposely to "try" to delay the inevitable, IF IF that really does even work which I doubt because the brain does show changes per all the imaging they do and they can see it in the imaging.
Boy, this IS depressing knowledge in MY case!!! As if this disease is not enough already! Argh!!!
I am fully Keto, I track my glucose and ketones, and I keep my carbs as close to zero as possible. I AM taking action in that area and am successful. I do put a LOT of work into that with cooking and baking whole, real foods! The best thing I do and can control and focus on!
Thank you for all this info!

Nope you're too young. Benzos work on GABA specifically GabaA neurotransmitter, complete breakdown of frontal lobes which dementia targets doesn't start until age 65,yes some juvenile cases have been documented however the cases of that in some 32 is next to impossible, Late 30's almost pushing 40 is the earliest and even that's a stretch. You're cognitive ability and memory is bad because that's literally a after effect of benzos, no one who's on benzos longer then recommended which is 2-4 weeks walks away from the drug without having cognitive and memory issues. Good news is once you're off, that all corrects it's self. Benzos don't case permanent damage so you're safe

I briefly had a prescription to deal with a week-long issue that I knew about ahead of time. Honestly, I didn’t like Xanax at all. It turned down the volume on the stress radio but maybe psychosomatically turned down the speed of my brain, too. I wouldn’t take it again unless to save my life. I’d definitely try therapy or meditation as a first line measure.

Once I tried xanax as a party drug for a couple of days in a row. During those days my memory went on and off like a lamp without me noticing it or thinking about it.
It wasn't until a few days without it that my memory of not noticing the memory loss and not noticing myself becoming dumber went back.

If you're a doctor, then how come you know nothing about how to interpret studies? You mention that the risk for cognitive impairment is increased by 100% in adults that take one or more "severe anticholinergics" for more than 60 days. And then you say that if you're taking a drug that's "high in anticholinergics" for more than 60 days, you have a 100% chance of having cognitive impairment. Having a 100% increased risk of getting a disease is NOT the same as having a 100% chance of having it. How the hell do you not know this? Unfortunately, since most Americans are rather ignorant, they won't be able to accurately assess this misinformation you're putting out and they'll just assume that since you have Dr. in your name, that you must know what you're talking about.

My input. Xanax made be depressed. If you take a few extra over a couple months, get disgusted with yourself and, the critical part here!, you suddenly flush them, you can have a seizure. I was told I needed a little CPR because I stopped breathing. Now I do not remember the seizure. What I do remember is the neurologist being angry I had gone to the medical school library to find out what happened. Maybe he wanted to tell me I had a withdrawal seizure. What I do remember is three months of loss of half my brain cells.
Haven’t taken extra meds for anything since. It was 1994. Am afraid to take Advil for a headache.
One more thing: make sure you have a psychiatrist who is careful for your health in general. I had a drug-dealer of a psychiatrist. Haven’t seen him since either.
My CPR giver and ER driver was getting ready to go to work. A little later and I’d have been by myself when I had that seizure and stopped breathing.

Not hopeless at all. I had extremely high stress for many years, GAD and PTSD which I don’t say lightly. I came off Xanax / Lorazipam 1mg 4 x per day. Now on 70% lower dose of diazepam and following dr bredesen ReCode protocol, + using MIP Vielight BPM 2 x day, and continuing to lower dosage. It can be done. I highly recommend keto type diet, exercise, light therapy, magnesium L-Threonate and very high dose fish oil.

You are wonderful! I’m in La Quinta Ca. Near Palm Desert as well.
Can you recommend a doctor like you? You’re one in a million.
I had chemo for early state fallopian tube cancer, high grade serous in 2020-21. As a result I have P neuropathy.
I’ve been experiencing internal tremors which are bothersome especially when more intense some days. I also have a feeling of motion. So together can be very unsettling. Have you heard of this happening….today was very bad, the feeling of motion, like after getting off a cruise.
I had an MRI last month and it was clear, my internist was very pleased. I just feel like there’s nothing I can do, but I do deep breathing and it does subside before going to sleep, grateful!
I’m also grateful that this cancer was discovered early. I was up with my head pounding and internal vibrations. Doctors don’t know why. Prob from nerve damage. At least I’m relieved not something worse. I don’t have symptoms for MS, Parkinson’s.
Look forward to hearing from you doctor. ❤
