The drummer, Stewart Copeland, is considered one of the top and most influential drummers of his generation.
Incredibly SKILLED at his craft!! 🙌
He totally is!!!!
Stuart Copeland is my absolute favourite drummer of all time.
Also wrote expletives on his drum skins to stop overhead videos be shot. He didn't want his technical abilities dissected.!!!
For those interested, Rick Beato just released a very good interview with him.
The Police have a lot of hits. I'd recommend; So Lonely, Walking on the Moon, Don't Stand So Close to Me, Synchronicity II, Every Little Thing She Does is Magic.
Can't Stand Losing You, and its cover by Steel Pulse
Don’t Stand So Close To Me is so good
You have to include Roxanne as well. It is in Losing it after all. And it is Roxanne.
How do you leave Roxanne off this list lol 😂
Song to react to… Brand New Day by Sting
Whenever you listen to the Police, pay attention to the drummer. No one works the cymbals and snare quite like that guy.
"Every breath you take" and "Roxanne" also good.
The jazz version of Roxanne by Sting ♥ my favorite version
Roxanne ❤
Sting: One of the greatest front-men of all time.
Copeland: One of the greatest drummers of all time.
Summers: One of the greatest guitarists of all time.
The Police has an unmistakable sound, massive talent, massive charisma, massive integrity, and a massive discography of absolute bangers. I don't care what age you are, their music is timeless, so far.
Black P. You will recognize “Every Breath You Take,” because Diddy used the sample. Other than that, every single they released is fire!
And diddy is paying sting millions upon millions, This every year because of it
Every song from the 70's and 80's is stolen, sampled, copied in today's music. Is sampling music a talent???
"Sample" lol plagiarism more like.
@@KozueMegami well, yeah! As long as he is paying Sting to use it then it’s okay. Artists do that all the time. Heck, The Verve hardly makes a penny off their biggest song due to using the better part of a Rolling Stones song with their permission.
@@mattsmith5609 if you get permission from the artist, or if you keep the sample short enough, it would not be considered stealing. There are many artists that are very talented with the use of samples. Ren, himself, uses samples at times and they are so beautifully incorporated into his song that you barely realize they are part of another song.
I will die on the hill that GenX still grew up with the most diverse and greatest music ever. My playlist round the time this was dropped and added to it.........Van Halen, Men At Work, ACDC, Afrikka Bambatta, Public Enemy, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Circle Jerks, Suicidal Tendencies, Jodie Fosters Army aka JFA, Minor Threat. Yep that was my playlist around this time frame. I've always loved all the music of GenX.
Totally agree. I was into late 60s stuff like Iron Butterfly. classic rock 70's, hair metal, 80's pop. I could be listening to Metallica or Culture Club. The music was so diverse.
Yes! So true!!
Dont worry buddy, pretty much all older people die on the hill that the music of their generation was the greatest ever. its like a natural law, that only few are able to break.
not to mention Genx brought you everything from W.A.S.P. to Keith Sweat. Biggie and Pac, both gone way too soon. Not boomers or Millennials, they are GenX. Corey Taylor from Slipknot and Stone Sour....GenX. Maynard James Keenan from Tool, Puscifer, Perfect Circle...GenX.@@smilie-pm9gb
Love me some 80s music I a Big Van Halen Fan !!!! RIP. Eddie!!!!
So many gems to choose from, 'Roxanne', 'Walking on the Moon', 'Wrapped around your finger', 'Every breath you take', Don't stand too close to me" to name a few.
Let's not forget that the silly drummer, Stewart Copeland, is a real beast at the drums (Top10/100 - Rolling Stone Magazine) and has composed a lot music/soundtracks for well known movies after the unfortunate breakup of The Police ...
Nice reaction as well!
and now composing Operas. Copeland is a beast!
He’s a top guy. He’s just done an incredible interview with Rick Beato, it’s here on UA-cam. Rick has interviewed all 3 members of The Police in the last few months.
As much as I agree and love Copeland and The Police as a band, let's not use Rolling Stone as a parameter.
For me, it is easily Stewart Copeland, Neil Peart, Danny Carey, John Bonham, Ginger Baker... And I could throw in a ton who are probably arguably interchangeable in the next five or ten or fifteen on a list, but are all easily my "favorites" (Grohl, Hawkins, Portnoy, Taylor, etc).
Punk+reggae=The Police
+jazz
It’s called “Ska”.
Ska
Not punk.
@@georgeglasser8220 haha
Stewart is the wizard
His hi hat work is second to none
By the time the Police released Every Breath You Take they were one of the biggest bands in the world, selling out stadiums globally. This was off their second album when they were still a punk/reggae/new wave fusion. LOVED this period of the band.
They were the biggest band period my man- they were the Beatles of 1980s. They had the biggest tour till that time… Synchroncity was a massive successful album and tour
"Every Breath You Take" their biggest hit or Synchronicity 2 is also an epic track worth listening to.
The most played on song to date with 15 million+ plays… It is one of the biggest streaming legacy song on Spotify and with over 1 billion views on UA-cam
You should check out some Two Tone (UK Ska, fusion of post-punk british music and Jamaican Ska) from the late 70s, a band to checkout is 'The Specials' and song suggestions 'Gangsters', 'A Message to You, Rudy', 'Too Much to Young' and 'Ghost Town'. You can hear the The Special influences in some of Ren's music. The Police and The Clash where around the same time when they started :)
Absolutely. The Specials. RIP Terry.
The beat too.
100% I love the Specials! I was born during their heyday, so I didn't 'discover' them until much later in life, but once I caught on, they became one of my all-time favorite groups. I was also fortunate enough to see their reunion tours after I'd already become a huge fan. They didn't disappoint live either. There are so many great tracks to choose from! Ghost Town, Do Nothing, It's Later Than You Think, Blank Expression, A Message To You Rudy, Too Much Too Young, Doesn't Make It Alright, You're Wondering Now... They are not only ska gods but just great musicians regardless. I highly recommend them.
The Selecter "Too much pressure ", "On my radio"
The drummer flat out says they took from The Specials as they were big fans. I think it was during an interview with Elvis Costello.
one of the best drummers of all time Stuart copeland his snare pops like no other.. and his style is unique....
Amazing 3 piece band. Stewart Copeland is the drummer and he is one of the best ever. He's does a lot of composing now. Sting playing bass and singing...that ain't easy. And Andy Summers, great guitarist. All so accomplished. You really should listen to more of their stuff - they were highly influenced by Reggae and you can hear it in a lot of their early songs. Their biggest hit is Every Breath You Take but I would definitely not start there. Don't Stand So Close to Me, Walking on the Moon, Roxanne are just the 1st three I'd suggest for you. Then moving onto to some of their "later" stuff like Synchronicity. IT's a great band to discover and I'm a little jealous that you get to hear all for the first time :) Have fun!
Fyi, the drummer is Stewart Copeland. He's also an amazing composer for movie soundtracks, including "Wall Street" and "Rumble Fish"
I bought a bunch of 80s soundtracks this week, and he’s got a song on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 soundtrack. It’s also featured on the blu-ray menu somewhere on the new 4K release.
@gvehar he also did the soundtrack for the 1990 Charlie Sheen Emilio Estavez action comedy "Men At Work"
I saw that when I was looking at the other soundtracks! I didn’t buy it though as I don’t remember the soundtrack to that one very much. Let’s not forget he also went solo under the alias Klark Kent. I always liked his song Don’t Care.
Do you think Cobain got Smells Like Teen Spirit riff from Rumblefish? The music in Dennis Hopper’s first scene….
@@rognroll2786 I think he got smells like teen spirit from more than a feeling
ALL THREE of these guys are JUST MASTERFUL at their craft!! ...and, I think you HAVE to be when you only have three people in your band!! Sting's vocals and bass....Andy' Summers guitar riffs...and, Stewart Copeland's FANTASTIC drumming....this band was FIRE!!! ...and, I still don't know any other band that has their sound, really.....ENJOY, BP!!! :) HUGS!
I had a cassette player in my car way back in the day, and I would blast the Police (and other mix tapes) when I hit the road to see America on my first vacation as an 18 year old adult. One of the (many) best times of my life!
Synchronicity II is probably my favorite song, but then I'm always happy to hear Every Little Thing She Does is Magic. And there's a dozen other songs in between. 😊
Much love from Maine and keep doin what ya do ❤
King of pain, hauntingly beautiful.
I feel another rabbit hole forming 😊. I grew up listening to the Police, joy Division, scritty politi to name a few happy days. 🙏❤️
Brilliant band. Copeland 's drumming is awesome.
Can't Go Wrong With The Police, Pure Quality In Abundance .
Sting, Stewart, Andy, The Police, there will never be another band like them!!! So talented, all three of them! ROAXNE was their 1st Biggest Hit! Funny it was released and didn’t do much, a year/two later it was reintroduced and it went to the top of the charts.
Saw Sting back in college when he was touring for his first solo album. One of the best live shows I’ve ever seen. Non stop energy for 2 hours straight. And Mister Mister opened the show.
Stewart Copeland ( the drummer who is american ) founded and named the band , probably inspired by his brother Miles III ( who became their manager ) and his father Miles who was a CIA agent."message in a bottle" was their first hit in Europe , back in 1980 and was from their 2nd LP "Reggata de Blanc" released in 1979 ; hits like "Roxanne" , "can't stand losing you" or "so lonely" hit the charts afterward although they were re-issued from their first LP "Outlandos d'Amour" in 1978
Miles started a record label didn’t he.
@@fayesouthall6604yep "IRS Records"
YESSS!!!! I love this band. Hit these ones. Walking On the Moon, So Lonely and Bring On the Night.
The police were one of the biggest bands ever- they ruled the 80s
The Police are Legendary. ❤ i Love Stewart Copeland on them Drums!💪🏽
5 albums from The Police (75 million in sales)...The bassist, Sting, is on of the best song writers. All three members are amazing. Rick Beato interviewed them one at a time. GREAT in depth info to The Police.
The Police are one of the Best bands Ever. Deal with it
All 3 artists in The Police, Andy, Stewart and Sting are master class musicians in their own right, combined in this jammin band was extraordinary. They were HUGE in my late teens high-school and college. I even saw Sting's Dream of the Blue Turtles Tour. Awesomeness
They blew up as a pop, radio, MTV band. Such interesting influences: jazz (Sting’s roots), Ska (Copeland’s beat), guitar riffs (Summers’ many adds). They reached across to alternative, rock crowds, too. And, as a three piece, had a huge sound for arenas.
Eddie Murphy "48hrs" "Roxanne" Police Classic
45 years old!!!!! 1979. We had good stuff. I think their first big song was "Roxeanne". They were totally unique. No one sounded like them. I know you have to know "Every Breath You Take" it's timeless, from 1983. Video is black and white, Diddy sampled it, but The Police are a classic early 80s rock/post punk band.
The Police were amazing, a huge part of my younger years.
This song made such an impact upon its release. Nothing like it had been heard before.
WALKING ON THE MOON is another fantastic one by them.
This music brings back such great memories. In the mid 80's I met a boy from another town while our families were on summer vacation. All year we mailed a cassette tape back and forth thru the snail mail and each one of us would add recordings to it. It was loaded with songs from the Police.
Fun facv is also that as Sting is English, Steward Copeland this one of the best drummers ever AND ALSO PLAYING DRUMS IN THIS 'TRADITIONAL WAY', IS FROM USA AND HE WAS THE ONE WHO WANTED TO FIND OTHER MEMBERS AND FOUND STING as Steward wanted to form a different kind of rock band. And their first hit 'Roxanne' surely was something new and as the main melody may sound quite simple, that song evolves to the last second.
Was lucky enough to see their reunion tour about 20 years ago. My first ever rock concert. Remember being amazed how three guys could totally enthral a stadium full of people. The drummer played a contraption made of hanging bottles and other stuff (hope I remember this right), for "Caravan" I think - it was magical.
Was able to see them live on the Synchronicity Tour around 1985. Love their music. I had a cool 10th grade English teacher, Mr. Appleton. He let us study the lyrics to many of their Synchronicity album songs in class. Epic!!
Pure energy
This was always one of my favorites thanks for reacting 🕊💙🕊💙
Sting really was a teacher and apparently this song is based on his personal experience. The shirt he is wearing is 'The Beat' an English Ska band from the early 80s. You could check out 'Save it for Later' and 'Mirror in the Bathroom'.
Im from 83 so i was young but my dad played The police's songs and it one of the bands that have stuck with me and bring back so many memorry's.
Their first hit was "Roxanne" in 1978. Eddie Murphy was singing it in 48 Hrs.
Roxanne, Every breath you take, walking on the moon and so many others. Honestly I love all their songs. I would listen to their albums without ever skipping a song.
Three piece of amazement. So much sound from only three dudes...
Stewart Copeland is one of the most skilled drummers of all time. 🙌
The Police are an amazing band. I grew up listening to them. Every single they released was fire. Sting has a fantastically mellifluous voice, but Stuart Copeland’s drumming is truly genius he writes and composes brilliant music for movies too. Andy Summers is a very original guitar player who has a great deal of emotion in his way of playing, whilst keeping the punkiness in his style. Most people know tracks from the Outlandos D’Amour and Reggatta De Blanc albums, but my favourite album is Ghost In The Machine specifically the track Spirits In The Material World. My favourite single is Roxanne and this track Message In A Bottle.
my only fact about this band, is Stuart Copland (drummer) dad is a founding member of the CIA
To play off that, Stewart’s older brother founded IRS record label, and his other brother (not sure if older or younger) formed FBI talent agency.
😱
@@nottheplan4513 Miles (3rd) was the oldest, then Ian, Stewart was the youngest. Miles founded I.R.S, Ian was a well known booking agent.
So glad you did this one, I’m 24, portuguese, and my dad always showed me The Police and Sting while growing up, these are really special ❤️
Your dad is passing on his musical interest to you 🥰 very sweet
One of the great things about the 70s, 80s and early 90s is how it spat out so many unique sounds, genres with The Police being one of them with their reggie rock sound and cool look.
Stewart Copeland is a god! It was filmed at The Lyceum in London, a 200 year theatre which became a big gig and club venue in the 70s and 80s, now the London theatre home of The Lion King, the musical. The Police song 'Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic' is always worth a watch/listen. Stewart Copeland is a god in that one too!
This song shows how The Police are the masters of repeating at the end of songs.
I can listen to them ending a song for another minute or five. Such skilled musicians. Each repetition is so different!
🎧 💓 🎶
Walking on the moon is my favourite and Roxanne
We might as well be living on another planet now when you compare mainstream music today with the past, we are now a different species.
Every Breath You Take
Loved the police back in the day. Their first big song and my favourite song is Roxanne!
You MUST know some songs by The Police. You know. LOLOL
I LOVE Sting since I was a kid. My mom listened to The Police and Sting and I just fell in love with him. He really is music genius.
This whole album, Regatta De Blanc is awesome.
Interesting fact about them; Sting was the band’s song writer. Sting is so talented that he would create these songs by himself, play the bass, guitar and drums as well as sing the songs, record them, then hold on to them until the band was ready to drop another album. Stew said he would hear Sting’s recordings and be like, “he didn’t even need us. By the time Andy and I heard the song it was already good enough to release”. Of course Sting didn’t do that and re-recorded his songs with the band until he was ready to leave them and become a solo artist… and history has shown just how successful he became on his own. The guy is like a musical freak of nature. SOOO talented
The biggest Police songs Every Breath You Take, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic and Don't Stand So Close To Me among a fantastic discography.
I delivered milk with the Sumner's back in the day. Newcastle Milkmen RULE!!!
WALKING ON THE MOON
Favorite song of all time. Message is up there and Regatta has perhaps their best ones too. Love The Police. Stewart Copleand is god
I loved these growing up. Quadraphinia was on our video recorders for years. My mum brought me up dancing around the house to ska, rock, reggae, soul, Motown. Our home was built around good tunes 👌🏻
The Police are great. Brings back tons of memories.
I'm sure you're familiar with "I'll be missing you" by Puff, Faith Evans, 112; that song samples "Every Breath You Take" by The Police. I've listened to The Police for years but till now didn't realize how much you can hear the inspiration in Ren's style. Keep up the great content BP.

I had the great honor to see them live in concert at the Aloha Stadium in Hawaii on their Synchronicity tour❤❤
Great to see you diving into one of Ren's heavier influences - they are great, but Sting is a living legend
another classic Police song is "Walking on the moon" definitely worth hearing to see how Reggae creeps into the music and another enriching Ren puzzle-piece :)
Their drummer, Stewart Copeland, is the most entertaining person in this video. Just looks like he's having a great time.
I love seeing people reacting to music outside of their comfort zones and experiencing more than just what they are used to. I am lucky in that I grew up in different parts of the country with many different friends with different tastes in music. I grew up in Texas and was exposed to country, grew up in Washington at the height of grunge, grew up in a Christian household that (at the house) was only exposed to either Christian music or Oldies (50s-70s), grew up in the 80s listening to timeless songs from that decade. All music should be experienced and celebrated. Keep up the wonderful work.
This is from their 2nd album. Their first hit was probably 'Roxanne', but they have a string of hits. You'll probably recognise 'Every Breath You Take' from it being sampled by Puff Daddy.
A lot of different sounds in their songs ranging from punk to rock, and love to incorporate reggae in there too throughout their existence.
Ooh....The Police....you have my attention! 🔥
“Roxanne” was their first big song (It wasn't their first single, but it was the song that got them really well known), and in the same year (1978) they released "Can't stand losing you", which was another really popular, big song by them. It's hard to actually say what their biggest song was, they had so many massive ones, but those 2 will def be on anyone's list of big Police tunes.
Personally I really love "Walking on the Moon"
I love this song. Guitar hero bass life always.
The name was because they came up in a punk rock scene. Other popular punk band names that look great on a flyer: "Free Beer", TBA, and "Millions of Dead Cops".
Yes its a f... to authority, no love for the state, because its absolutely not ok to love a state, especially not nato-states...
Wow this takes me back ❤Thanks B.P
isn't it wonderful? Same here. I'm fifteen all over again - Thanks B.P.
I am loving your discovery of all our great music!
Such a great tune. Drummer is phenomenal!!!
Great tune to work out to.
Dude they have two dozen hits... Enjoy the journey!
OMG... I remember pogoing to this at my high school dance back in 79... Timeless
Wrapped Around Your Finger is my favourite song from them, and one of my most favourite songs ever! Listening to this album zin the car on cassette with my bestie driving back from Sydney to Melbourne in 1993 when were young single and had no rsponsxxxalong with Midnight Oil 10 to 1 album. Still have both cassettes. Great memories of great times! So much fun!!
One of The Police's most beautiful songs, lyrically, is 'King Of Pain'
'Roxanne' was there first big song after being re-issued in 1979 reached No.12 in the UK charts, but 'Message in a Bottle' was their first UK chart No.1
An amazing trio. They are iconic. Explore MORE Police. From there explore the STING solo. You will not be disappointed.
There was a The Police album (possibly a greatest hits album) in the collection of CDs my dad would pack in the car whenever we went on summer holiday to the south of france. So this song just transports me back to the summers of my youth and its incredibly comforting and nostalgic. Even as an adult now, I love The Police.
Every breath you take& Roxanne
More memories from my 20s... This song was played every hour on the radio when it was hot circa late 1979/early 1980. One of the Police (bunch of Aussies) early hits. This video was common to what I was seeing on MTV, back when MTV still did music videos. Great reaction as always... I really enjoy seeing you get off on the songs that I grew up on. Seeing the light in your eyes and the smile on your face when it connects with you. Keep on doing it BP, you're the BEST! OBTW, one of my favorite Police hits was Don't Stand So Close to Me... great "story song".
Number 1 for them in Britain, after quite a tough period trying to get attention. Kind of lumped in with post-punk or even the ska movement, despite not coming from that background at all. Guitarist Andy Summers was essentially a jazzer from the 1960s finding fame after some years. In a short period of time they seemed to become the biggest act in Britain and then the world.
Another to check out is Paulo Nutini - Iron Sky Amazing song with a real message.
I love this band !!!! There are a lot of these dudes songs you have got to check out !!
There will be a number of Police songs that will be in your subconscious - they were massive. Saw them promote this their 2nd album Feb 1980 in Christchurch New Zealand - what an amazing sound for three people on stage.
Relevant, saw the Police in concert. XTC opened. Epic!
If you listen to Roxanne, you can hear the influence on Ren's vocal technique in Screech's Tale when he sings the line "Screech, dear boy, WHERE DID HE GO?" ❤
Saw the Police live in New Zealand in the 70s. Absolutely epic.
Sting every breath you take the best of his
I love that song, too! (And this one since 1979)!!! Crazy! Also "BRING ON THE NIGHT" (!!!), "Walking on the moon" (all from the album "Regatta de blanc", and "Don`t stand so close to me", "DRIVEN TO TEARS" (Oh, please hear that!!!) both from the album "Zenyatta Mondatta".
I promise it`s worth it!...
sting voice its the "reggae and Dub beat voice"... unique band. Believe me broh
Lots of hits from The police and Sting had a bunch of solo hits. Every Breath You Take is probably biggest hit they have had.
Sting - All This Time dvd is a must watch. He gathered musicians at his home in Italy to remake a bunch of songs. The day before the final concert at his home, 9-11 happened. It captures all of them debating on whether they should even play. It is a fascinating dvd.
