You (almost completely) misunderstood this song. This is a UK band, they were singing vaguely about politics (Not US politics). They were not referencing Vietnam at all, and when they sing about "constitution" they did NOT mean the constitution of the united states. The song was not anti-revolution despite the lyric "We'll be fighting in the streets", although they did stress that any revolution could be unpredictable.
👍
I was going to say similar. I like his reactions but every band that mentions constitution he immediately thinks it’s about the US. The Beatles Revolution is nothing specifically to do with the US either.
It's a parable to illustrate that you can campaign, take to the streets to protest, and vote for different parties... but nothing ever changes. Fifty years on they've been proved right.
"A change, it had to come, we knew it all along." ~ Optimism on the streets whilst they protest in expectation of an improved situation... but then the realisation hits:
"And the world looks just the same, and history ain't changed." ~ and then they reiterate:
"There's nothing in the street, looks any different to me."
"And the parting on the left, Is now a parting on the right.
And the beards have all grown longer overnight."~ In fact the only things that ever change are fashion and hairstyles.
"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss." ~ Parties and politicians come and go, but, by and large, nothing ever changes.
Was going to say the same thing but less articulately
But they're also talking about somebody like Trump, with his BS and his now preaching straight out tyranny and being a dictator in what used to be the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. They're attacking women now - the so-called "weaker sex." Babycakes, they ain't seen nothing yet. Remember that really old verse: HELL HATH NO FURY LIKE A WOMAN SCORNED. Read those lyrics again and again and again and then start paying attention to the news - but not on Fox or any of the other right-wing outlets. Focus on reality. And if you can't still figure out what those lyrics mean, then you're one of them. But that won't save you, because you don't have the right colored skin.
60 years.
Nailed it.
The PARTY on the left is now the PARTY on the right.
Song was done in 1971. This is in 1978. Sadly it was the last time they would play together. The drummer Keith Moon passed away about 3 months later.
Such a huge loss! But Beatle drummer, Ringo Starr’s son, Zack Starky plays with them now.
@@beckygrant2258
Keith was Zack’s godfather, and bought Zack his first drum set, and taught him some basics in drumming.
Yup. And he died in the same room that Mama Cass Elliott died in a couple of years earlier. I think they'd changed the bed.
@@beckygrant2258 Yup. He followed on from Kenny Jones, ex Faces & Small Faces.
This is one of the best rock bands in history at the absolute top of their game pure and simple.
Led Zepp, Who and Deep Purple of the same time.
Fun fact: if you watched the muppets, Animal (the drummer) is based on the Who’s drummer Keith Moon…pretty easy to see when you make the connection. They’ve got some all time bangers! Don’t miss Squeeze Box😂
Squeeze box is a must
Lol no wonder Animal was my favorite Muppet 🤣 😂
Animal was not as much of a monster with drums as Keith moon that was the ultimate crazy
@@dawnknox4640Animal was not as much of a monster than Keith moon , he was crazy with the drums And his antics
AN- NI- MAL!
😂
The French Chef’s favorite drummer !
The last phrase sums up the entire song. "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss".
“For I know that the hypnotized never lie”
One of the best lyrics ever, and that’s what we’re dealing with today, the hypnotized, and it always seems like we get fooled again
“Meet the new boss - same as the old boss”!
Yeah, and then he says, "Do ya?" to the crowd.
100%. I've watched many reactions to this song and never has anyone picked up on Pete's criticism/challenge of/to the crowd.
Don't you realize that you are hypnotized to believe this is all for you, for your benefit? its bullshit.
@@davescurry69 I LOVE the "Do ya?!"
@TheLanceUppercut It's brilliant isn't it. Everyone seems to miss it.
One of our best bands that’s ever come out of England , a master class in Rock and Roll.
Just one of the best bands, most come from england.
@@DerekDerekDerekDerekDerekDerekas a proud Englishman 😊🫡🏴 I agree .
I'm American, and they are one of my top 3 bands, they're no. 1 most of the time, sometimes tied with Grand Funk Railroad and Lynyrd Skynyrd, they all take turns at number one, so that's why I say top 3. But really i have 3 number ones, lol! I could watch them and listen to The Who anytime and it always feels like I'm hearing and watching something very special and great!
@DerekDerekDerekDerekDerekDerek I would say it's 50/50 but acknowledge that it comes down to personal preferences! Being a southern Appalachian hillbilly girl, I am partial to southern rock, but I'm crazy about The Who! I also have loved the band Nazareth since I was a teenager, I know they're Scottish, but that's a UK band that I absolutely love. Growing up, I never was a big Beatles fan, but was ape for the Rolling Stones. I suppose that's considered blasphemy to not be nuts for the Beatles, but I actually enjoyed them more as solo artists/bands later on than the Beatles music. I also love Cat Stevens's music very much. I love most everything he put out a lot. 🇺🇲💃🎵🎸
One of the most innovative rock bands ever.
Every time I hear that scream (best primal scream in R&R btw) it added 2 years to my life. This is my band.
Mine too
Daltreys primal scream and Townsends kneeslide - one of rocks greatest moments ❤
I so LOVE THAT SCREAM! Best part of the song!
Mine 3. My all time favorite band.
Oh man!! I haven't listened to them recently. Check out : "Behind Blue Eyes." I saw them in Cleveland, Ohio (Ball Park stadium - can't remember the name) 1988ish. Live concerts in the open air are so great! Of course, they rocked!!
I love John Entwistle’s bass playing. So deep, yet unassuming. Just sitting there chilling, being awesome. No spectacle.
His fingers create the spectacle!
And outside of performances he may have been the craziest one of the bunch
@@michaellockhart554 John certainly went out in a blaze that way! But I don't think he ever really fully kept up with Keith in that department. Who could?
Seems like most miss just how good he actually was.
His bass playing provides the bones of their songs
Drummer Keith Moon (died 9/1978) taught Ringo STARR’s (Beatles drummer) son Zac, to play the drums and Zac is now the drummer for The Who.
About two months after this was recorded I believe.
Pay attention to the bass player. John Entwistle.. One of the best bass guitarists in the history of Rock. His nickname was Thunderfingers.. He played the bass like it was a lead guitar, with low notes.
Lemmy made a fist of playing the bass like a lead guitar too, RIP
The best. 😎
Entwistle has another nickname....he is the OX.
Ox'S nickname was OX!
my favorite thing about these live Who videos is with all the chaos, there's Entwistle just standing statue-still shredding the crap out of the bass
That's cuz he's so drugged out if he moved he'd probably piss in his pants
@@imasmileydog8043 you can see Townsend is coked of his lips
One of the best bands ever!
Live the BEST!
They're still the best live band I've seen, and I've seen some fabulous ones!
Love this reaction. It's an amazing song about how every time someone comes along to "make things better" it's just the same old same old. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss
💯
Of all the songs, I’ve heard in my years, and all the lyrics - that one line always sticks - - “ meet the new boss, same as the old boss”
......and Moon the Loon going nutz on the drums....RIP Keith Moon
You won't regret hearing more of The Who brother.
Gosh England was blessed wit MOSTER TALENT! 😉👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The greatest band in the world and well known even today as being one of, if not the loudest live band of all time. They're legends!! Long live The Who 🤘🎸🎶🎯
LOVE their songs: Reign O'er Me & Behind Blue Eyes.....but: there are SO MANY good songs by them....
One of the great British bands of the 60/70s.Check out their performance at Woodstock and the film Tommy with Tina Turner as the Acid Queen.
i second what Jan says. I'd also love to say that this band exploded onto the London "Mod" scene in the mid 1960's and had a career with new music being released and charting up till the mid 1880's! They have continued to tour although they are down to two elderly original core members. They were known for crazy live shows just usings their intruments, their temperments (they often fought and clashed but never really broke up) and the vibe they'd create - destroying instruments, knocking heads with mikes (yeah it did happen!!) - stealing the spotlight VERY often from more well known artists they'd be opening for in England and America! In 1968 they played the great west coast festival, Monteray Pop, and knew they were sharing a stage that night with Otis Redding and Jimi Hendrix (!!!!)....it was quite a three way battle. The very next year they had a explosive night at the first Woodstock Fest' and blew the crowd away again playing a evening slot against hard rock acts like Ten Years After and funk revolutionaries Sly and the Family Stone. In the early 1970's, and I cannot recommend this newly discovered filmed clip of them, they were part of a feature length filmed concert event held by their "friends", The Rolling Stones. Also on the bill were members of the Beatles and Joe Cocker, but it was the Who, with their new song, the first rock opera they ever wrote, "A QUICK ONE, WHILE HE'S AWAY", that stole the show, the crowd went wild during the two recorded versions put on film that night, so much so that the Rolling Stones, dumped the entire film for almost 40+ years, only recently restored, the video is a MUST WATCH for You! I hope You enjoy and read this!
Listen to the Tommy album (the movie is godawful); Quadraphenia is a better rock opera. Listen to Live at Leeds, not Woodstock.
Can't wait until the Bio film on Keith Moon comes out. It will be epic
And Elton John as the Pinball Wizard!
@@mohollywoodyou got a title for that film? I'm interested!
I’ve loved The Who, since I was eight years old, as I get older, my favorite has become” love rain o’er me”. so many great songs though
He did ask for a love song, and you beat me to the suggestion lol. Great tune, and certainly a different side of the Who.
Eight, sure ya did
Love reign over me, not rain...
@@lorddaver5729 I know, I speak to text and don’t check sometimes, my bad
@@rc1564 I was introduced to the who when I was eight by my older brother who was my idol. I don’t know what’s so unbelievable about that?
Remember when Ren said about the movie Quadrophenia, The Who are responsible for the movie and the soundtrack
FYI, This is the group that sings the opening for CSI Las Vegas, Miami, New York and The Masked Singer. The song is Who Are You. They did a movie Tommy which is a rock opera.
This song is the theme song to CSI: New York
"The Kids Are Alright" The Who documentary is best to showcase their history of the band.
You watched quadrophenia. The film was produced by the who and the soundtrack is them. So yes you are aware of the who.
the key line in this track (imo) "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss..."
The more things change, the more they stay the same. "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss". Thanks for the upload and reaction, BP!
They played at the closing ceremony at the 2012 London Olympics, and burned that stadium down. Fire 🔥. RIP Mooney.
Don't forget John "The Ox" Entwhistle. R.I.P.
The Who are a big old rabbit hole to fall down, enjoy. I was 20 in 78.
18 and graduating from HS
Me too
17 for me!
22 for me. As a Brit I always preferred the Who, Stones, Kinks to the Beatles.
The Who and The Kinks were way better than the Rolling Stones. Although the latter had some amazing songs, I can't just listen to all their songs without skipping some awful ones. Lady Jane for starters - it's just embarrassing.
I loved Roger Daltry (vocalist) in The Highlander Series in the 90s. He was hysterical!
I never saw a better band in concert than the Who.
You were lucky!! They are one band I didn't get to see that I would have given anything to see!
“Even had laser light shows in the 70s” 😆. Good one
I always have to chuckle when young reactors have never heard of 60s bands and artists
Yep, there were laser shows back then. I sold multi-media shows that included special sound f/X, projectors, graphics, and lasers. Most of them were multi-screen and surrounded the entire venue. We were contracted to do with for corporate events, sports events, live theater, and rock shows. We would pack them up after each show and move them from location to location.
"light shows in the 70s"
Yes - that must just after they invented electricity.😀
Grew up with bands like this 😊 English band we Brits had it all music wise 😊❤
I was 26 in 1978. Love The Who. Thank you for your reactions and introducing great music to those that weren't there.
Can't wait, the scream from Roger and Pete Townsends knee slide 😅
They should frame that thing in rock n roll hall of fame
“ Love, Reign o’er me”
Great WHO song
I was lucky to see them in concert 3 times, 1979, mid 1990’s and 2001. Great live band.
One of the all time best rock screams ever! Go Roger Daltry! 😁
This song has the best primal scream in a rock and roll song of all time….and Pete Townshend’s slide on his knees is epic during that scream! Such a great band. More The Who, please.
The 1960’s really bonded the US and the UK in such a good way, through our music and art….but it bonded our public policy and our politics, which had already began years earlier. And if you do the math, the US and the UK, together, own over 50% of the world’s assets. So if there ever is a one world order, guess who would own it? It’s probably why our politicians always refer to our relationship with the UK as “a special relationship!”
The most famous scream in rock!! Did you notice the drummer, Keith Moon has his headphones duct taped to his head?
Matched only by the female commentator when the winning goal was scored in the football match that I have just watched and then after recovering from that you get Roger!😬
@@IsleofskyeShe had her Mike duct taped to her head?

“Won’t Get Fooled Again” was released as a single in 1971. My personal favorite is “Who Are You?.” Love your first reaction videos❣️
Quality of this 44 year old video is amazing. Shepperton Studios is same place where Star Wars was filmed. The band had exclusive access to all their filming equipment to make this video.
I saw them in Nashville, TN, a few years ago. They still rock it.
The Who are performing several gigs in London in March for their annual Teenage Cancer Trust charity concerts. 25 years ago, The Who created Teenage Cancer Trust which raises funds to build houses similar to the Ronald McDonald Houses all over the world, but geared toward teenagers who are battling cancer. Squeeze is the open act for The Who this year. Eddie Vedder, Robert Plant, and several other rockers are also performing.
My favorite Who song is Pinball Wizard, the movie Tommy is based of the album, it about a deaf mute blind boy who is a pinball champion. Its a crazy movie.
My favourite Who song is .... This....
Listen to the lyrics (REALLY listen)
.
Then play Money Game 1.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

"This isn't entertainment, this is real life"
(Yes... *I KNOW* that's from part 3)
@rogerstarkey5390 you make a much better comment than my similar one. The social scene doesn't seem to change, does it?
I was in college when this music was new. Both high school and college in the 70's. I've never stopped listening to it. Glad you like it. Welcome aboard!
This song was introduced in 1971 on the album "Who's Next".
One of the best albums ever! You can save time and just play the album! 😂😂😂
Oh my God you said it you are right we are not a democracy we are constitutional republic oh my God somebody's finally getting it excellent problem my friend a fan for life 😊
A Top-TEN Classic rock groups/ OG's "Tommy" was an eyeopener and still stands the test of time ~🎵
You watched 4 of the most iconic figures in rock music history that make up one of my top 3 bands! Roger Daltrey - front man and harmonica player, the great Pete Townsend on guitar, who was the originator of the windmill arm swing, he was also the songwriter and sometimes lead vocalist. John Entwistle - Bass player extraordinare, who played the bass like a lead guitar very loud, and the one of a kind, never to be equaled in my opinion, natural drummer, the insanely charismatic wild man and talented Keith Moon, otherwise known as The Who!! It doesn't get much better if you love hard hitting in-your-face rock music, played extremely well and extremely loud!! Pete Townsend's songwriting skills were exceptional and they were all very talented individuals on their instruments and vocals! They killed it at Woodstock, and many other legendary performances! One of my favorites was actually in their later years when they performed for the first responders in the Concert for New York right after 9/11, and had the fireman and police officers on their feets dancing and singing! It was awesome! By then, Keith Moon had sadly passed away, and Zack Starkey, Ringo Starr's son, was their drummer. He did as good a job as could be done to replace Keith Moon. Ringo and Keith had been friends for years, and I'm sure growing up, Zack witnessed the greatness of Keith's drumming many times. Thank you for this reaction! I enjoyed it! Their catalog is too extensive to list, but I would ask for you to react to my favorite "Love Reign O'er Me" a masterpiece. 🔥💃🎵🎸
These guys are iconic. Pete Townsend on guitar, with the windmill stokes, the jumping like it’s an aerobics class. Keith Moon on the drums, that man was crazy, I don’t if it was the alcohol & chemical enhancements that did it, or just brought it out of him. Regardless, he is also legend. I remember my older brother playing The Who’s rock opera Tommy when I was 6 or7. Glad you enjoyed them.
The lyrics are so Animal House (George Orwell). The animals wind up looking a lot like the farmers. The new boss, same as the old boss. The song is soooo relevant.
the Who are one of the Goats. Their music is iconic and everywhere. just watch CSI and hear their theme song "who are you."
This song is theme for CSI Miami

My fave clip of The Who ever. A fantastic band & the best rock scream ever ❤️ Cheers & Peace Out ✌️
Good intro to The Who. Widely regarded as one of the best if best Rock bands in the world. Certainly the best rock band to come out if the UK.
There's a lot of Led Zeppelin fans who'd disagree with your last line. Not sure who I'd agree with.
Pink Floyd, and Beatles fans as well. The Who is definitely in my top 3 though.
"And the world looks just the same, and history ain't changed."
The 9/11 Concert with The Who was electric. Song is nothing ever changes.
My fav Who song is BABA O'RILEY. They used to play it in the hallways in Middle School in-between classes.
For Roger's vocals - "Love Reign O'er Me" for John's bass "Real Me".
Roger Daltry the lead singer starred as a deaf, dumb, and blind kid in the rock opera film 'Tommy' with Elton John, Oliver Reed, Ann Margaret and Tina Turner as the Acid Queen in 1975. The Who made the song 'Pinball Wizard' which Elton John sang in the movie. It's worth a watch. Especially if you played pinball as a kid. 😅
This band is on a whole different level. Can't wait until you react to more of them. But this is a banger. I think of this song after every election here in the states. Oh, the beginning of their song Baba O'Riley has been my phone ringtone for the past 10 years!
ONE OF THE GREATEST rock bands ever
The Who are easily in the top 10 best rock ‘n’ roll bands of all time.
Entwistle ... wow. Dude was Awesome...
I'm in the UK. It's great to see an American who understands there is a world outside the US. Keep going there are loads of fantastic 60s bands and singers and to find yet .
Love the British influence on Rock & RoLl, especially during 60s and 70s.
🇬🇧
A lot of American understand that. Many many British bands and artists are popular here. One of my faves who for whatever reasons didn’t make it big here (but l love them) is Slade.
@@cycologist7069 Bruv. First album I bought with my own money was Old new borrowed and blue from 1974. I was 12.

Saw that, don't understand why. Shitty title, sounds like something for kids. Even for the 70s there are lyrics not suitable for young ears. Thing is I listened to the album last week. I think you could release some of their tracks now and they would still sound new .
One of the best underrated group's of all time
The Who's catalog is an irresistible rabbit hole of great music with great storytelling. As great as this performance was, you have to hear the studio version to really get the full effect ...especially for Roger Daltrey's classic scream. It's worth the listen.
This is the iconic rock scream what's really amazing about this song is the organ is the instrument that's keeping the rhythm which allows the drummer Keith Moon, to go absolutely nuts throughout the whole song.
Playing on your phone when the most iconic scream.. dang
Saw them in concert in the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida in 1977. Still one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Roger Daltry is an amazing performer, and in addition to being a genius songwriter, Pete Townshend is a phenomenal guitarist and showman. I think the real statement in this song is that despite all the revolutions, nothing really ever changes. The people in power may be different, but for the regular people, everything's just the same, if not worse. I love seeing your reactions to songs I've listened to for most of my life; it's like hearing them myself for the first time all over again! Please react to my favorite of theirs, "Baba O'Reilly" - you will love it!
The song’s brilliant lyrics are about a revolution (probably fits most so-called revolutions) that promised better life under a new constitution but which, in the end, changed nothing. They sing “a change, it had to come, we knew it all along, and “we were liberated from the fold, that's all, and the world looks just the same”… Realizing that they fell for the false promise of change they sing, “We don't get fooled again, no, no” and finally they end with “meet the new boss same as the old boss”. Some very insightful and prescient lyrics.
was it an answer to Lennon/The Beatles "revolution"?
@@highpath4776 Never though about it before but similiar sentiments. John says "when you talk about destruction, don't you know that you can count me out" except perhaps John wasn't fooled as he said, "we'd all love to see the plan".
@@steveullrich7737 dont forget in reality John was a middleclass (for liverpool) grammer school person, but really aimed revolution at those who wanted to destroy without finding a way to build everyone up. Townsend's lyrics are also mis scanned. "then I get down on my knees to pray we don't get fooled again". the prayer is for enlightenment , not reigned acceptance but the singing makes it deliberately ambigious
Londoners were not unaffected by “the troubles” in Ireland either.
Great that Pete Townsend was able to channel his Hyperactivity to his Guitar playing
That was the kind and gentle WHO. Look at their earlier stuff, THE WHO, like Led Zeppelin, are the archetype ROCK BAND.
**John Entwistle bass. Considered one of the best in contemporary music & the calm eye of the storm
** Keith Moon “the loon”. besides being a very good , power & creative drummer he was a bit of a wild card.
** Roger Daltrey vocals speak for themselves
** Pete Townshend guitarist is quite talented and the main song writer
The greatest band ever! Young man blues, Isle of Wight next!
Seeing them live is a whole different thing. As good as live band as has ever been.
Definitely more of The Who - "Baba O'Riley at Shepperton is also a banger!
Live at Leeds is an all time great live album.
Won't Get Fooled Again was released in 1971 on the album Who's Next.
You definitely have to do more of The Who, they are great music!!❤❤❤
Legends!
I saw the band when 16 in Glasgow in 1971 when this song came out - 5,000 cinema venue cost of most expensive seats £1. Mind you we never used the seats other than to stand on. Relived the excitement through your reaction. Seen them several times since but feel the best work was mid-60s to mid-seventies. Not all as raucous as this - check out Tommy and Quadrophenia albums albums. Keep up the good work
Love reign o'er me is my vote for next
All the CSI shows used the Who songs as their theme tunes. (Fun fact) ✌️
Just think about it man - these guys were proteges of the Stones, Beatles etc.... but THEY ROCK HARD....always - I have seen the 2 times and they are the best live band ever.....PERIOD One of my all time favorites... and they have a witty sense of humor too......
The Who is one of my very favorite bands of all time. They deliver the goods with each and every track they ever cut.
My all time favorite band ever. They are the poster guys for rock. And every single one of them is a master at what they do.
3 things: a) the definition of a rock anthem b) the British could out-anger anyone c) The Who are all time greats worthy of your sonic indulgence
I'm sure someone else has mentioned it, but I will too.. The Who did a rock musical called "Tommy" that is just iconic! Roger Daltry played the lead character, a deaf, dumb and blind kid who was a "Pinball Wizard", Keith Moon perfectly played the deranged Uncle Ernie, Tina Turner was outstanding as the "Acid Queen", it also starred Elton John and Eric Clapton. The music is outstanding! The musical is legendary and Roger Daltrey killed it in the lead role!!
If you ever watched any CSI shows like CSI NY, the opening theme song is a Who song. Band members lead singer Roger Daltrey, drums Keith Moon, and Pete Townsend lead on guitar. But Pete also has done some solo work. John Entwistle is the bass guitarist.
"Who are you" the vevo Promo video (done in studio) funny stuff. Or check out My Generation, another of my favorite, I love the video from the smothers broters for the way they were dressed cause it 1967.
Keith Moon and John Entwhistle were genius’ and their contrasting performances were so mesmerizing.
The rthym section is legendary. Probably the best lead rthym section ever. The lead guitar played the rthym.

Laserlight shows fully emerged in the early 1970s and became a form of psychedelic entertainment, usually accompanied by a live musical performance on stage or pre-recorded music. The Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, and Electric Light Orchestra were among the first high-profile rock acts to use lasers in their concert shows in the mid-1970s.
I always thought they meant that things never change. No matter who's in charge. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. The parting on the left is now the parting on the right. History hasn't changed. I love the line, the hypnotized never lie. Do ya ? It's kinda like frustration with the system and accepting that it'll never change.
The Who are one of the greatest and most iconic British rock bands who started out in the 60's along with the Beatles, Stones and Kinks. This is one of the greatest rock anthems with a timeless message - meet the new boss, same as the old boss! All four original members excel individually and together make a really special band. Pete Thownsend (lead guitar) is the main writer and a creative genius. I would love to see you react to more Who - Early stuff - 'my generation', 'the kids are alright', 'Substitute', later stuff - 'Behind blue eyes', 'Baba O'reilly', '5:15', 'love reign o'er me', 'Who are you' (used in CSI theme tune). Cheers
Don't forget when Pete was caught with all that child p*rn. Or have you forgotten??
