This 74 year old lady just successfully reset the counter, removed the tank and has a cute little bottle hanging on the side of my printer. Thank you Kevin
Hi Kevin - thank you for making this video. Repairing your own printer is not for the faint of heart! I managed to get the waste ink tank installed despite ripping the cables out of the motherboard. Ugh. I had a very hard time getting the side panel off and then on again and figuring out exactly where the cables need to go. Thanks for making this video. Despite the difficulties, I appreciate being able to maintain and repair my own printer rather than paying someone else to do it. I wouldn't be able to do it without people like you sharing your knowledge and offering products that make it a possibility. Good luck with your future endeavors!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. You just saved me a ton of money in replacement of printer and my pending orders. FU Epson for being jerks when I called you.
Thanks for these videos. I've decided to buy the bottle and tube from your website because I'm having issues with my printer and I just cannot afford to waste time and money cleaning the sponges, or buying new ones. I can't even find sponges that say it fits my printer anyway! I have the ET 2800 and nothing I've found on amazon says it fits that printer so anyway I like the idea of the bottle. This way I can visually see how full it is at any given time and it'll help me maintain my printer. I run a small business from my home and I NEED my printer working 24/7. This video helped me and I love how inexpensive your products are! I only paid $14 for the kit and that included shipping. Very reasonable for a small business. THANKS!!!!
This is so awesome. I just had to clean my nozzle a bunch of times on my ET-2760 ...dangers of going a couple months without printing. Great to know I can do this so my printer no longer as "disposable" issues.
I got this error message today and was shocked as I just purchased this printer not even a year ago. Yes I use it a lot but it's all personal printing I'm doing on it. Of all the printers I've ever owned I've never seen or heard of anything like this before. This is the first and last Epson brand product I will purchase.
Jesus F. Christ. All inkjet printers use ink for print head cleaning and all have waste tanks. You need to buy specific models with replaceable waste or maintenance tanks. HP, Canon, etc. are the same.
The fact that these brands don't automatically do something like this with an external waste tank that you can easily empty instead of soaking sponges is proof they just want you to waste money. How hard would it be to just build an easy to remove attachment like this, come on!
Looks like the advantage of cheaper bulk ink (versus cartridges) is eroded significantly by epson simply building in an expensive "repair" to keep printer working. Considering that the ecotank is about twice as expensive as a comparable cartridge printer along with the fact that most people will just pay Epson to "fix" their printer when the ink pad is full (and it quits working) allows epson to make up the revenue they didn't get from selling ink cartridges.
@@tiltingatentropy1215 I agree 100%....I've had mine for less than two years and just got "the ink pad is nearing the end of its service life message"....called Epson and was told product not under warranty and will have to pay to ship it and to have it fixed. Thank you for your great video. That was very interesting. 😀I bought an Epson Ecotank 4750 in 2019 and I am very satisfied with the printer. Now not with the maintenance box T04d1. Since I always reset the box and of course also have to wash out the fleece, I modified it quite a bit. I connected the hose that actually leads to the maintenance box to an internal silicone hose and WILL lead out to an internal vessel (microwave pot for soups/sauces, etc. That works great. The reset empty maintenance box with chip remains in the printer and is reset as soon as my ink ejector displays "Replace maintenance box".
Just the information on being able to access the waste tank is priceless. I was quoted $75 to $125 at my nearest Epson Service center, 60 miles one way from my house and I would have to leave it for 5 days. The pads are easy to keep track off as you take them out. On the ET-2720, there are 2 large pads, 2 pads with center cut-out (goes in to top of tank) and one small pad. All pads have a notch in bottom that aligns with a ridge in tank. Different ECO Tanks may have more pads but will probably be in same configuration - full pads, then cut-out pads and finally small pad. But make a note to yourself of the order when you remove them to make sure. Cleaning the pads was effortless but a little time consuming, about 20 minutes. Simply used hot water in sink to clean pads (5 in the ET-2720) till all ink was out. I didn't use soap and would recommend against it as soap would probably make the pads too stiff after they dry. Dried the pad on low setting in oven. As soon as I get the kit, I plan on switching to the external storage bottle.
If your wife is okay with it, wrap the pads with pantyhose and throw them into the washing machine. You may have to wear dark cloth from now on but saves a lot of hassle.
The pads are cotton material which are very absorbent. The issue is that they have to be cleaned periodically which which required removing the casing (which is not explained until this video). This system allows for the excess fluid to drain to an outside tank which is easier to clean and the pads are no longer in use.
@@spikeco1709 This resolve makes it perfect. I don’t own an epson ecotank but was thinking about getting one. What do you do with the excess ink. It looks like it comes out in all black. Can you refill the ink bottles or are they sealed preventing diy refills.
I have the ET-2850 model. It has a different maintenance cartridge from yours, mine is grey and has Epson on it (I checked it, but I have not had it long enough to need it replaced). My understanding is that when its full and the printer tells you, you simply remove it, and install a new one. I'm sure I read that the new maintenance cartridge has a chip on/in it, which the printer detects and resets the counter because it knows a new maintenance cartridge has been installed. The maintenance cartridges are really cheap as well.

This is a great video, thank you Kevin! My ET2720 has blank spots with the blue ink. I did a couple cleanings then a power cleaning when I got the "nearing end of life" message. I think I'll convert the ink pad to your bottle method.
Hi! I'm looking into getting a tank printer and I'm wondering if I do this bottle trick right after receiving the printer, does this mean I'll never need to reset the counter?
Any ideas on how to reset a maintenance box on a ET-3760? I've seen the chip resetters but need something today that will work. Printer won't print. I've cleaned and dried the pads....but it still demands a new tank. Thanks

i wonder if doing this with a brand new epson tank printer from the very start will prevent me from ever having that service message again or does epson just go by page count ? thanx kevin love ur channel
Just wanted to drop you a line and say thanks for your videos, they helped me tremendously getting my et2720 back up and running. But I also have a question... If you install the external tank like in this video before you start getting the warning does that make you able to do the power clean setting as needed or as often you like and never get to the end of life of the printer? Epson says doing the power cleaning shortens the life as you know because they didn't make the internal tank replaceable..Thank you again and thanks in advance to your answer to the question. Chris
Very good and informative video. Canon uses a similar arrangement. You can reset their waste ink counter without needing a third party assist. Epson arrangement for waste in sponges a lot easier to use and superior to Canon. Thanks for providing the info to get the fitting and tube for a waste ink bottle. You should be able to just install a waste bottle into the sponge reservoir; but some surgery might be necessary, but then it wouldn't be readily visible.
What Canon printer can you reset it without a third party program? I’m looking at the G3260 ink tank but am not aware of any way to user-reset that one, it does have a user-replaceable maintenance box but those are microchipped.

@@donmoroz5502 Thanks, perhaps the G3200 is better than the G3260 for that reason? 3260 uses chipped maintenance boxes, 3200 uses bare sponges. Does the Ink Waste have a counter on it so it forces you to reset it anyway? Also, Is it possible to do this mod without removing the chip that detects the waste pad is removed so you dont have to buy another key?
The software won’t download to my computer, but I just took the pads out & pressed the ink out with hot water. I’m letting them dry. When the ink reset has to be done, will I have to do the pads again?

Not sure what an external option does. They system still would need to be reset, because it still counts ink used. I don’t think there is any monitoring of the actual pad.
Love the video thank you. I have a question. So once we convert to bypass do we need to reset the counter again? Will we need to keep purchasing a key to reset the counter?
Epson should update the firmware to allow resetting the maintenance tank life counter from within the maintenance the settings. The tank can be removed, discarded, and a new one installed in a matter of minutes. Having to use third party software and purchasing keys is BS. Epson should be ashamed. I get firmware updates all the time. Adding a tank counter reset would be simple for them to do. PS: Thank you for the video. The external bottle is simply for waste ink. The Eco Tanks have 4 seperate color tanks that you fill from the front. Each color's bottle is configured so you can't fill im wrong reservoir. Connect how? it says on the screen "no printers were found & check USB" Where am i supposed to connect the printer? with what? ive already rinsed out the pads (after looking for them for a few hours all over the printer b/c i didnt finish watching your video when i first started it since i heard you talking about a key & i was trying to do a quick fix thinking it would reset on its own once i washed the ink pads)...so ive washed the ink pads and just have to get passed that screen on inkchip so i can proceed to buy the key. i was gifted this printer with no black ink, clogged yellow ink, & error message that the ink pads were almost out of life & once i filled the black and tried running it the ink pad reached the end of life so i havent been able to print anything yet besides the yellow, red, & blue lines when you do head cleaning. i hope to hear back from you soon so i can finally get to use the printer.
thank you
JF
i just got a et15000, i wanna add that ext tank before i even start to use it. Will that mess anything up during the setup?
Hi. I have the ET2850 model on the inkchip net website I don't see this model.
No chance to reset the ink waste pads?
Thank you for your answer
Does the Ink Waste have a counter on it so it forces you to reset it anyway? Also, Is it possible to do this mod without removing the chip that detects the waste pad is removed so you dont have to buy another key?
The software won’t download to my computer, but I just took the pads out & pressed the ink out with hot water. I’m letting them dry. When the ink reset has to be done, will I have to do the pads again?
So I guess I'm not understanding once we add the tube and the bottle and let drain does that now stay there forever or do we just run a cycle or 2 and then remove and put back together like b4. So I have to do the tube thing or can I just clean my filters and put back in reset and I'm good to go. Lots of questions so if u could please take the time to help me. I'd greatly appreciated!!(:

Hi Kevin. Thanks for your videos. They are so informative.
I have an Epson ET-2720 and its still under warranty.
I made a mistake of doing power cleaning a couple of times and today I got that dreaded message about a part nearing end of service life.
I dowloaded the maintenance reset utility and attempted to reset the printer. But I am getting this message "Printer or server communication error. Check printer connection and internet connection"
I don't know know how to fix it. I have tried wired connecting my lap top to printer. Made sure they are both connected to same router. I uninstalled and reinstalled Epson software. Rebooted the printer and laptop several times. Nothing is helping. Your insight will be really helpful. Thanks in advance.

Do you still need to reset the counter if you connect the external tank ? I'm guessing yes but just wondering forsure
Kevin I just purchased the kit from your website.
Do you know how to do this on a epson et 16650 I’m having a hard time locating everything. Please help
Will the same key work multiple times?
hello I'm having a problem refilling the black ink the ink does not flow it just sits at the top I've wasted do much ink trying to refill nobody is familiar with this issue have you delt with this? your help would be greatly appreciated
Kevin, what do I do? I have gotten all the way to "Imput reset waste ink key" and the code I purchased from Inkchip gives me a "not valid" rejection. Now what do I do?
any suggestions for chromebook users?
Would this work on the Epson ET-7700 ? The reason am asking it’s because I see this printer has a chip entrance where the maintenance box goes in…. So would adding the bottle work with no chip to read the level of the box
Do they have a fix I can use on my Macbook Pro yet?
Hi would you be able to do it a waste tank on et 15000
This message appears on the screen of the aepson ST C 8000 borderless printing ink pad reaching end of life. is this the toolbox or is it something else
Hi Kevin. Do I need to connect my printer to usb? Or does it automatically connect through wifi?
Hi bro. Very nice videos, if I buy a new eecotank 2720 just need to set the waste ink bottle or i have to reset with software also?
I have the et-2400 and I have no idea how to lift the cover/scanner
Do you know how much time I've been waisting trying to reset this? I'm trying to stay patient...I really am. My time is worth more than anything and I hate epson now for putting me and others through this. Ugh😡
And I still haven't been able to do this because my printer is not showing up anywhere.
Hello Kevin, I have epson et-2760 and the ink will not go into the print head cartridge do you know how can I fix that. Also my in look full but when I check to see how much ink do I have my PC states I have less then 40 percent. Thanks
Awesome Instructions and Great advice many thanks 🙏🏻
My question is, Why the heck we (as customers) have to pay some other entity $10 to get the code to reset our E-11 error code???? I'll be on the phone tomorrow with Epson complaining about this! But, great video...I'll be doing the external waste bottle.
Not sure what an external option does. They system still would need to be reset, because it still counts ink used. I don’t think there is any monitoring of the actual pad.
I have a ET 2800 and doesn't have WIC or Reset Key. There's something else I can do?
Love the video thank you. I have a question. So once we convert to bypass do we need to reset the counter again? Will we need to keep purchasing a key to reset the counter?
I wondered the same
Epson should update the firmware to allow resetting the maintenance tank life counter from within the maintenance the settings. The tank can be removed, discarded, and a new one installed in a matter of minutes. Having to use third party software and purchasing keys is BS. Epson should be ashamed. I get firmware updates all the time. Adding a tank counter reset would be simple for them to do. PS: Thank you for the video. Very informative to learn how Epson is screwing us and what options we have...
Thanks
Hello… will this kit work on a Epson ET 4700?
I need to know this too.
My printer the et 2720 is no moving its cartridge right to left it is only making the sound , I looked inside, the cord is trembling with the sound but no movement.
Where did you buy the tubes and bottle
Hey but I did run into a problem, after I did all of that my printer is still not printing all the colors
Thanks Kevin, really helpful.
is this possible on a new printer I literally just unboxed my printer and i have that notification ?does this mean my printer is actually used and not brand new ?
No, it shouldn't. Contact Epson and tell them it's malfunctioning.
I have a Epson ET-2800. It’s just 2 months old but I have been using it nonstop. I just encountered this error the other day. The website does not have the ink chip rest for it, I also have a Mac… :(
I don’t know what to do…
Where do I get the ink sponge from, & how do I clean my old one
Hello, where can I get the bottle and the hose? please help
can this be done with one that is already telling you that end of life is near
I’m not understanding where to get the key?
Is there any solution like this for epson l6190?
Thanks!
kevin! thank you. you saved me from having to purchase a new printer.
So...all Epson EcoTank printers have this waste tank and they all have counters correct?
Yes. All Epson printers.
It's worth noting that the high end ET-7700 has a user-serviceable ink pad, and you able to buy the "maintenance box" from Epson
@@djenson you would think something like this could or should have replaceable drop-ins so ppl can go on about their business. buying the product then the inks should be enough to make them money rather than having a mandatory thing that more or less makes it unusable after a time...the 'counter' thing is atrocious.
@@moss8448 It is really ridiculous, at least on my model (ET-2710) the ink pads are easily accessible with 1 screw so I just need to pay £10 for the code when the times comes, which I honestly don't mind, considering I was paying £30 for a cartridge that printed 30 pages before and consistently would clog.
@@djenson yeah the idea
Will this work with an ET1500?
the program no finds my printer i did everything mi printer in connected and is together with my computer but the program find it ... what can i do???
Thank you for your better english video very helfull

can you use one of those waste bottles on your site on a Epson WF-7720?
HI Kevin. What software can I use to reset the ink pad counter if I have an iMac?
A six pack and a friend who has a PC.
I was with until the key part? How can i retrieve my key?
E-11 tampon problem ! What can I do ?
Hi, these operations can be done on the 2750 ecotank thanks and good job lase and if possible I will reply with translation in Italian Sig Imeri thanks
Trying to follow.. after I click waste ink counters- it’s not reading my printer… ET2720… help
Do you have a video to fix the ribbons/cables if you lift the scanner to high? Please. 😪
Can you just replace it with a new one before you get the error messsage
Got the kit. One thing I had to confirm through the video (as no instructions with kit), is that you remove the Waste Ink tank.
Yes I did.
I’m not familiar with the Epsom or their ink bottles? Can you refill them with the ink from this external collector?
The external bottle is simply for waste ink. The Eco Tanks have 4 seperate color tanks that you fill from the front. Each color's bottle is configured so you can't fill im wrong reservoir. Those are the bottles you refill from larger supply or buy replacement bottles from EPSOM. There is a visual level on front of printer as well as software notification of low ink levels.
What size tube?
The InkChip worked great for me, but now I can't find the app in the control panel to uninstall it. It's on my start menu but not in the control panel or the settings 'apps and features' menu. It's making me a little nervous. Any suggestions?
My Norton Antivirus usually kills it in a few days, so I don’t know 🤷♂️ haha 😆
