Man, what an awesome week. I got the Long Kiss Goodnight on the channel, and now Python too. I don't know why, but seeing this stranger from the other side of the planet laugh, just causes immediate happiness for me.
These appearances of the Spanish Inquisition happen in the course of a 30-minute episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus. The video you watched is missing the buildup to their final entry. There's an entire courtroom sketch that ends with the defendant being sentenced to be burned at the stake, prompting him to say "I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition". Everyone looks expectantly at the door, but we cut to the Spanish Inquisition getting on a bus and hurrying madly to get to the courthouse while the end credits roll. Just as they enter, as seen here, we come to "The End".
Biggles was the main character in a number of heroic adventure books for youth, where he was a fighter pilot. This is why Cardinal Biggles has a pilot's leather helmet, and why the audience laughed when his name was said for the first time.

My two favorite things about the "Spanish Inquisition" sketch are the surprise, their array of weapons, and their tendency to miscount items - OK, my THREE favorite things about the sketch...
The ironic thing is that the Spanish inquisition gave you 30 days notice before paying you a visit so even though it's an iconic sketch it isn't accurate, just thought I'd mention this fact.
Live at the Hollywood Bowl was a brilliant collection of some of their best sketches, Btw, if you want to see Michael Palin in a non Monty Python dark comedy, try "Death of Stalin", or maybe "Fierce Creatures", from the people that brought you "A Fish Called Wanda".
Live at the Hollywood Bowl is the reason why my face was hurting so much, it was so funny. I watched A fish called Wanda a few months ago, didn't know about "Death of Stalin" thanks for that:)
That's false. The Inquisitors would announce their presence 30 days ahead of beginning their reign of terror in a town, but no one knew who was under suspicion or who was going to be arrested, and most of the time, the people arrested, tortured, and executed were never told the nature of their crime or given a chance to defend themselves. As in the sketch, the victims were expected to confess to their crimes without ever being told what they might be.
@@anonygent I take it it's the "so they could prepare their defense" part that you're taking issue with, because it sounds to me like everyone did indeed expect the Spanish Inquisition.
I am not confessing anything more today, I will remain in my comfy chair :D Sketches are plenty, some off the ones I love: "ministry of silly walks", "Lumber jack song", "Argument Clinic"
They cut out a huge chunk. After those animations end (at 10:17), they switch to a courtroom scene, which proceeds to get silly (as they tend to do). I don't remember what the courthroom scene was about; that's not relevant, I don't believe. Anyway, eventually, someone says the magic words, "I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition!", and across town, the three cardinals burst out of whatever house they were in _AS THE CREDITS START TO ROLL!_ They run across the street and catch a cross-town bus, credits still rolling, running up the steps of the bailey and burst into the courtroom and start to say their catchphrase just as the credits end and "THE END" appears on the screen.
I like your reaction. Thank you. If you want to see a Monty Python movie, try Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It's about King Arthur and his knights trying to find the holy grail in England.

I watched A fish called Wanda a few months ago, didn't know about "Death of Stalin" thanks for that:)
@@ariachanson01 I'd forgotten I'd seen your reaction to Wanda, so I checked, and amended it to the (not really a) sequel.
Fun fact: _everyone_ expected the Spanish Inquisition because they always gave people 30 days notice so they could prepare their defense.
@@HideousConformity Your hearing is faulty.
For another funny take on the Spanish Inquisition, try Mel Brooks' History of the World Part One.
Aria C: "... which nobody expected."
Me: Be careful how you say that.....

Three words of advice: Fawlty Towers
What's the third word😛
I think you will like the sktech "Mister Hitler" by the Monty Pythons.
I am not confessing anything more today, I will remain in my comfy chair :D
Sketches are plenty, some off the ones I love: "ministry of silly walks", "Lumber jack song", "Argument Clinic"
They were in Live at Hollywood bowl too, loved them so much... I'll try to upload it soon:)
@@ariachanson01 It is always wonderful to see people discover Monty Python. They certainly helped from my dry humor :D

The Flying Circus is fantastic and worth every second of your time, but it is quite long.
Oh, I'm gonna have to watch the entire episode on Netflix then, so I can see the whole thing
I like your reaction. Thank you. If you want to see a Monty Python movie, try Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It's about King Arthur and his knights trying to find the holy grail in England.
oh it was absolutely hilarious and my introduction to the Monty Python world. It is on my channel in the Monty Python playlist if you'd like to check out the video:)
