Great talk! All about the soil.
The problem is the solution! Great 👍
Dear Jeff, I am an Organic farmer from India & would like to visit Rodale institute. I am a member of OCA almost 18 years now. I believe in establishing WORLD ORGANIC FARMERS ASSOCIATION in the wake of the credibility being changed, because of poor Organic Certification laws which are unable to deliver the TRACEABILITY & Transparency upto the Bank account of the farmers concerned. I am afraid if this situation is not addressed, Organic shall never be able to recover its lost credibility around the Globe. Slowly all efforts of propagation of Organic farming & food are becoming futile & false.
I find this idea of soil interesting. It is very human to want to reduce something to a term that masks the extent of the complexity. "Soil" it's about the soil. I find this term narrows the range of what is infinitely complex and interesting.
The connotation and definition of the word belies the truth of the nature of a system that offers the sum total base ingredients in some chaotic soup, that is organised by basic life forms, that in turn enable higher life and even us.
Soil seems such an understated noun
To these standards, hmmm these are an abstract concept. It is the mechanism to throttle organic food production in to the hands of those with the means as is ever the case. Organic certification is a privilege of the middle class. My peasant farmers are ecological.
I disagree entirely with organic certification,.it is just a layer of cost that isn't needed where we all reconnect with our food and producers. The more layers, middle men, retail, standards and non significant hoops, the less the farmer and society can do to truly address what is important to me for sure. This is the quality of the nutrients in our food, the ethical nature of production and equity of employment, and the welfare of wider nature.
Shop local, get to know your producers and stop using horrid retailers that are bumping the price and lowering the quality
Great conversation 👌
Thanks!
It all starts with soil health, that's why deltas are so fertile.
