- ”A refreshing perspective on what it means to be wealthy” - Don Smith, Kiss the Ground
In the documentary ”Into the Soil” we follow Brigid LeFevre, who runs a community supported agriculture operation (CSO) in Järna, Sweden. In her biodynamic vegetable garden she focuses on fermenting the harvest in order to enrich it with nutritious lactic acid bacteria.
Brigid grew up in an anthroposophically inspired Camphill community in Northern Ireland where volunteers lived and worked together with people with special needs. It was a self-sufficient community where the local store brought in bulk organic produce and each household would write down their purchases - without any actual exchange of money.
Growing up in a place where food was separated from the economic market has had a big impact on Brigid’s philosophy as a farmer. And really, come to think about it, why is it that the global ups and downs of the economy should determine the operating practices of small scale local farms?
In Brigid’s garden it doesn’t. She grows and ferments vegetables for the members, who subscribe to her sauerkraut, kimchi and lacto fermented pickles, all year round. The members support this regenerative agriculture operation with money or hands-on help in the garden.
It’s a local, circular economy, which underpins an alive garden, buzzing and chirping, where the goal isn’t to turn a profit, but rather to make the soil more alive with the passing of each season.

Hello, I hope you're safe over there? I hope this year brings happiness, prosperity, love 💚 , and peace all over the world 🌏. I would love us to be good friends in honesty and in trust so as time goes on it will bring something great for us in the future, hope you don't mind? I'm Gabriel Wood from San Francisco, California where are you from if I may ask?

0:20 0:20 😢
What a remarkable lady she is. I could go on listening to her conversations, which she perfects to the level of poetry with philosophical meanderings sprinkled all over. Indeed, she is a wealthy person.
Thank you Saad. And I couldn't agree more. If you want to hear more of Brigid, check out this podcast episode which contains the full interview: campfire-stories.org/brigid-lefevre-on-life-soil-and-kimchi/
Also, there's other short films on the Campfire Stories UA-cam page with her.

it went terribly wrong for us. I regret it actually. We had a wonderful project and put in a tonne of work but wrecked our health .. most of my permaculture , self sufficiency friends lived sickly lives of rural poverty. we all started out optimistic tho. even those with huge amounts of money behind them became sickly .. Camphill was floundering last time i checked .. as is the whole steiner movement. they had no nerve to stand up to covid tyranny either sadly :(
How come to your country any jobs
Que mujer más especial, sabía, consciente, me encanta, que bueno escucharla, gracias por compartir!, y por la labor tan importante que haces🙏❤️🌹💯🙌
The word ”förädlad” has two components to it: ”för”, meaning for or to make, and ”ädla” which has to do with nobless, noble values, higher state, but also deliciousness and valuable… It is such a perfect word.
Thank you for taking the time to translate this special word/phrase into English. Now I need to write this down to remind myself of what I want/need to do.
Tack Linnea!
Gracias por traducir esta palabra tan perfecta y única, me encanta 😍❤️🌹🙏
I think the word is similar to the word "veredeln" in german
I cannot explain how much I love this film. I want to live where she grew up. Especially when she said the food should not be in the realm of the economic market is so true. Personally, I think the only reason food is controlled by the economic market is that the government want to be in control and wants US to rely on THEM. If we came toegther, and created small communities that rely on each other is what needs to happen to create a better life and healthier enviroment. This is what needs to happen to live a happier life.
Thank you Sofia! 💚
Ah this is pure idealistic horse shit. How does this translate to a city like London, Tokyo or Singapore? Are they all to starve because a few people with hippy ideologies don’t want huge production. And I am a no till, regenerative grower in Ireland. Nothing wrong with doing it for yourself but are all the farmers to feed the cities for free? Idealistic nonsense I fear
Let's do it!
Agriculturally based communities
Exactly, and the government certainly do not want people living in communities growing their own food and self sufficient. Here in Australia, councils make it very difficult to establish Multiple Occupancies.. they are actively abolishing land sharing legislation. They want most people in the cities where they are easier to control. I left the city early last year and live in the bush, but unfortunately there's no health centred community here.
The thing is how to sell it and kind of surviving doing it... People don't worship the food, the vegetables...as other less important things..
This woman is incredible. She is amazing. Wish there were more of her in this world to spend quality time with. Thank you
Thank you Thomas. And I couldn't agree more!
You can be like this too
I am totally in love with this film and everything about it. Thank you to all the beautiful people who were involved in every aspect of this amazing production, farming etc. I feel it in my soul that this is the future of humanity. Much love to all.
Thank you so much Kerry!
it has failed so miserably for all of us who tried it .. i cant say i am optimistic about it anymore. i wish i had kept a large amount of money in addition to doing this .. as long as you have backup it might not be too dreadful if it fails :(
@@mythtree6348our specific approach might have, but as we see with 3.5 billion years of nature, the systems work. Just need to know how to remove ones self from the product/consumerism mindset and work with nature not against. I recommended Dr. Elaine Ingham, Dan Kittredge, Gabe Brown, Nicole Masters and Dr. Christine Jones to learn the appropriate methods and grow yourself to be ready for the natural farming journey. Managing the farm means nothing of the farmer isn't understanding the core concepts of soil caretaking
This video was recommended to me based on what I've been watching. I'm so thankful it was in the queue! What a beautiful soul you have captured. I had a similar childhood and also see "currency" as many things: not only finances, but family, freedom, flowers, and so on. I felt like I had 30 minutes with a friend today. Thank you, Mattias. - your new subscriber
Thank you so much for these words Lori. And welcome to Campfire Stories :)
Yes with me too! I'm happy about that
Thank you for giving me hope. Twenty-five years working on building up the wildlife ecosystem on part of my property was destroyed by the Canadian Trans Mountain Pipeline (for their temporary workspace) in less than 4 years. Just got a call from their rep who wants to remove the livestock protective fencing in order to destroy more of my property in order to "conveniently" carry out their "restorative" program. I refused. In another year they should be gone, and at the age of 69, I will start again. Thank you for giving me the will to do so.
Please start again. Don't give up your vision and hope. If governments tear down, I go into build-up mode: building my thoughts, a business, a garden, a healthy body... they can't control that❤
I'm so so sorry, this would break my heart to pieces. I become deeply attached to my plants and the land. I am sending you my support to start again! I believe this is what we are "here to do" 🙏
I hope that you are feeling more positive & hopeful in continuing with your wonderful ecological plans for your land. I am 68 this year and have been working upon my tiny plot in South Wales, UK, based upon permaculture principles.
Thank you for your resistance and persistence. I wish the circumstances were different and our government would actually care about and listen to the voices of reason. I’m almost 60 and have been using regenerative practices to create a tiny oasis. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💚💚💚
Everything about this video warms my heart inside. I have a very small garden in the suburbs of Los Angeles, and I feel these words to my core. My little garden is grown with polyculture practices sans a 4x4 garlic bed. I love it so much more this way. I see my garden as a treasure hunt and my soil is so happy with life. Earth to earth. Every bit of life is welcomed.
Thanks for sharing Jayne! 💚
Hi what is polyculture can you explain a bit. Fist time I here about it
Beyond impressed with the immense diversity that this beautiful soul shares with the world…we need soooooo many more that think and do what she shares with us all……what can she not do…just being around the peace and joy she exudes…wishing this film was longer…pray for more souls like this…
Except for the fermentation I am gardening in a similar way so I’m team Brigid!❤
💛
It's a joyous knowledge that we, though far apart, inhabit this earth and are doing our best to keep her healthy.
Bridget we are lucky to have a similar set up back at home in Ireland, it's wonderful to see one of our own go forward and do wonderful things abroad, Ireland is proud of it's sons and daughters 🇮🇪
💛
she's more than making a living out there, she's living it abundantly 💜🍀
This is one of the MOST beautiful things I’ve ever seen, it was like viewing New Earth , this is LIVING, that is community ❣️🙏🏽❣️
Thank you so much for that comment!
I love this. I'm halfway through your film, I have to comment how much I appreciate Brigid's comment that "I make a good living". From my place in the US, working a job 9-5, there's such an economic pressure on me and my peers to work so we can pay rent. It make's it hard to imagine living this way. I bet her quality of life is better than me. She seems quite happy here, and proud of her foradlad farm. Thank you for this documentary.
Thank you. I know - scaling it down, simplifying, it feels daunting. But probably makes you richer in the end (if you know what I mean with "richer").
Wonderful, sister, miss the irish accent , lived for a good while in Ireland, then felt to move back to rural România to care for a piece of land and few old villagers around us here, such an obvious, simple solution for humanity to cease its destructive madness and become harmonious, returning to nature..
💚
My heart was full of joy, after watching it. This is poetry... 🙏 thank you...
Thank you dear João!
This film feels my heart and I know that I am not alone in farming. We do not ferment but heavily considering it.
Awesome! In case you'd like a short introduction to fermentation by Brigid herself, might I suggest this short video: ua-cam.com/video/GfqMilSnK2I/v-deo.html
What felt like a gardening documentary quickly turned in a cosmic transe for me. Thank you so much! Every sentence calls for such a positive view on things. We need more gentle grounded philosophs like Brigid.
Thank you so much! And I agree! :)
Thank you for this documentary. This is how we as humans are meant to live. We have sadly gone past this sensibility to a point of irresponsible mindlessness to the brink of point of no return.
💚
What a beautiful person. I've never heard someone describe how they make a good living in the way she was first inclined to answer, and never, ever thought hearing the way someone else views fermenting could bring me to near tears.
Thank you for this wonderful remark!
What a beautiful woman, with a beautiful heart. It is so refreshing to see a kindred spirit living at peace.
Sweet! Thanks Jonette!
You're such a beautiful soul Brigid. Thank you Mattias for bringing another amazing story.
Glad you like the film! Yes, Brigid is amazing!
Thank you for sharing the wisdom, complex simplicity
Beautiful documentary! What a sovereign being she is. So inspiring
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awe, I smiled within the first minute! Love her intro. Gracefully blunt. Of course her name is Brigid! 💚
This is really beautiful, thankyou 🌱
I have sometimes fermented as an adult, and while watching this, I was reminded of some really big crockery pots used for fermenting that we had when I was a child. So good for all our interwoven ways of being.
I always feel good after watching your films. They help me to harmonise with 'our' planet and remind me how lucky I am to be alive. Thanks.
Awesome! And I like how you put "our" in quotation marks. Does the planet belong to us or do we belong to it? Thanks Cliff.
Mattias,I saw your chat with Happen Films ,some time ago and have always been hoping to find you on UA-cam,well today you showed up and I was not disappointed.Your film was a joy for me.I'm Irish so I felt a closeness to Brigid, and I 'm a gardener of sorts, trying to grow regeneratively, though I struggle at the moment, the rain has increased so much here .Much success to your campfire stories and to Brigid Lefebvre, lots of love from Ireland.xx.
Thank you so much Quraiba! I was so happy to read your note. Much love!
Wonderful. Just what I needed to hear now in the month of March when I start my seeds and planning new varieties. Thank you so much both of you
Yes, a good life indeed. Thank you for giving hope to those of us still finding our way. With my hands in the soil, I follow your path.
What a wonderful talk and sounds like a sweet way to grow up. Imagine if we all took these principles to heart and live in our communities.
A revelation. And so thoughtful; your simple acknowledgment of the delights and provocations of working alongside people with many different abilities fits so snugly with your embrace of diversity among your plants. Thank you.
Thanks Julian!
Thank you so very much.
When you have clothes on your back food on the table and a roof over your head you are richer than most. Unfortunately many people don't realise that.
Lovely film, hope it helps people change their perspective.
As for house insurance personally feel it is yet another type of tax on people.
💛
What an absolutely beautiful film :) The photography, the music, the wisdom, elegant humility, and peaceful prosperity are remarkable. Thank you :)
Thank you very much!
Bless you and May we all take a piece of your knowledge and passion to create more gardens before we are forced to starve and become ill from eating lack thereof. Thank you for sharing YOU!❤
What a treasure Bridget is - such a wonderful story loved every minute xxx
Thank you so much Sally!
Very wise and brave woman! An inspiration 🥰
💛
We need so many more heart people like Brigid for our precious mother earth to survive:-) I could listen to her again and again. A very remarkable young woman.
What an inspirational story of Regenerative agriculture from a young lady. I can't stop watching more and more people jumping onto this bandwagon of farming that holds the potential to sustain life on Earth while making food production more healthy for its people and the environment. Please keep going. :)
💚
How inspiring, it has been almost a decade trying to go slow but you don’t realize when life accelerates you. Only when you start panting and have no choice but to pause you acknowledge your pace. Today was such a moment and serendipity led to this movie, Thank you from bottom of my heart for doing what you do.
💚
Lovely, thank you so much for creating this documentary
Glad you enjoyed it Sophia!
Yes! I so appreciate the movie, which was linked in a discussion group for folks crazy about fermenting. As a bonus, it's also about Gardening, which I love both in a natural great combo. Loving the idea of living in the fermenting kitchen with other Förädling folk! Thanks for sharing your story of upbringing and how you live now. Great example of diversity and richness.
Sweet! Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful film! Technically one of the best films I have seen. The sound design and custom music track are beautiful. The directing skill shows in the heart brought to the film. And the editing is superb. Thank you all for making this film.
Wow, thank you Greg for noticing all the little things :)
Watching this just made me realize how much my year in a Camphill community 11 years ago actually influenced me and completely changed my life. It took a lot of time and loads of detours but now I'm finally back on the right track that was set at that time and I'm super grateful. Thank you for this wonderful video!
Thank you Miriam!
How luxurious is this enchanted garden of your heart !!! Simply phenomenal !! Merci ❤
Such an important documentary! What a great philosophy. Thank you
Thank you Palian!
Love when she considers it carefully and says she makes a really good living. This, not working all hours for money to do nothing but work, is ACTUALLY making a living.
Yes!
Can’t like this enough, beautiful,in tune with nature as we should live and words spoken from the soul.
Thank you!
Sometimes, you just know a video is going to be great when you look at the thumbnail. This was amazing! And the interviewer was excellent, too!
Why, thank you very much! :)
Coming to this place to create this existence that is a reflection of how life was growing up..peaceful, very beautiful and bountiful .. for such a place to be the energy has so much influence…and that is the magic of the currency not $s that is the emphasis of the mega farming growing only one thing en masse..mono culture is not where the future is..bio diversity in every way possible..thankyou Bridget..❤😊❤
The most beautiful and refreshing film I've seen in a long while. I love seeing how some use Rudolph Steiners remedies on their lands. Thanks for introducing us to Brigid and biodynamics.
You are very welcome!
Phenomenal. Our future hinges on whether we head this advice or not.
Thanks John!
I walk in from a morning in my regenerative food forest and sit down and watch your delightful film on regenerative farming. There are pockets of perfection in the world. Thanks for sharing.
It's nice when we can connect the pockets. I guess that's the upside of globalization.
Brilliant. This is what we need more of in the world.
Absolutely fantastic! What a wonderful attitude to life this woman has, if only she could spread her joy and gratitude to us all.
A truly Beautiful video ❤ Thank-you so much for presenting it to us, I genuinely feel my life has been enriched by having watched it 💕
Thank you so much for that beautiful comment!
Her life and spirit are beautiful. I can feel the peace she has as Im watching this.
Thank you Terri!
This is real poetry in motion. Thanks for this interview. The subject matter, picture, the music, the voice and lady. ...all blend to speak to the deeps.
Thank you so much! 💚
Estou assistindo vc do Brasil. Amei a entrevista.
Thanking the soul that captured and presented this beautiful garden soul….
That would be me. :) Lovely, thank you Isabella!
I'm in awe of Brigit's optimism and passion for real living! Thanks for sharing this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is so beautiful it almost brought a tear to my eye. In a world full of darkness what you do is a little oasis of light keep it up.
You approach gardening from the same perspectives as I do. From a place where we're all a part of it all. This is so inspiring, Much love.
Thank you Keri!
Very inspiring, very informative and very optimistic.... well done! This is the kind of film, I'd feel happy to watch and recommend and I just did 😊
Thank you for that!
What a wonderful woman. So well spoken and such great energy
Thank you Rudy!
Remarkable story. We need more Brigids in this world.
Thank you for this beautiful and inspiring story to give hope to everyone. You are my biodynamic hero and regenerative permaculture hope. I love your beautiful song I would love to buy a recording of it, it gives me peace in my heart 🌬🌝🕊🌳❤
Hi Demita. Not sure if it's been released anywhere. If you'd like you can follow Brigid on IG, maybe there's more info about it there. @brigidfoodcrafter
Thank you, this Is one of the most important and beautiful stories I've ever seen, biodynamics is the future of the planet.
I own and operate a permaculture based farm. She is on another level with life. Living walkway/pathway etc. Just AMAZING!! and great video!! thank you.
Thank you Shawn!
She is a beautiful Soul! Praise God whom created her and her humble perspective of life!
💛
Amazing film, I felt very inspired after watching this through the story, perspective, the lady, the conversation, the soundtrack, and the song at the end. This was very great.
Glad you liked it!
What a magnificent video! Thank you and thank you, Brigid - inspiring!!
That was so beautiful. Thank you for making this film. It gives me so much hope to see people actually going this path and rejuvenating with nature.
So now it's my turn, moving my body out in the garden and shoveling some earth, so this year's plants have some place to sit and grow.
Sweet! Me too. Thanks Surija!
Thank you so much for sharing your farm and yourself. It is beautiful. All the best, mark
Thank you Mark. And you're welcome! :)
My take away phrase from her Brilliance. “I got lost in the cheese”. Absolutely Brilliant!!!!
What a beautiful place to live. The beauty of nature.❤
This was life affirming! Thanks to all involved
Thank you for that! 💚
I am back watching this a 2nd time. She amazes me. She is one of those souls who have found themselves and are grounded and happy with who they are. She pulls me in and makes me want to spend a day or 2 with her listening to her thoughts, ideas, opinions and stories
Hello, do you know if this lady in this video has a website? I would love to contact her, thank you.
@@sacbe107 You can also put her name Brigid Lafevre in search For UA-cam and everything she is in will come up
Hey Thomas. Thanks for your comment. Sacbe, you can try her at her ig account @brigidfoodcrafter
What a beautiful soul! Thank you for interviewing Bridget 😍👏💕
You are so welcome!
Its so wonderful to feel alive in different ways
This was so lovely to watch. Living in such a beautiful environment doing what you are passionate about is priceless.
It really is!
What an amazing documentary, thank you for bringing it to the world! May it find those who need to see this and let it call them to take the journey to wholeness within and all around. Gardening is a beautiful representation of the wholeness within. When I allow fear and anxiety to be within me it is released from my consciousness and I am able to come to the recognition of wholeness within me and all around. What courage it takes to forge ahead on this path for the millions who will soon follow in our footsteps on this journey of recognition. Blessing there will be to the many who can walk this path in spirit and on Earth.
Thank you so much! I'm glad it found its way to you!
Det vore ganska intressant att veta hur det går nu och flera börjar deltaga i denna idé. Framför allt runt Järna.
more of this. Humanity, we need more of this.
Brigid is truly wealthy. What a beautiful life. Thank you for sharing.
Our pleasure!
Thank you for another beautiful movie Mattias and all of you participating. Beautiful music and scenery! And as always an important and inspiring message! 🙏🏻
Thank you Anna! Glad you liked it!
What a beautiful project! Thank you everyone who made it possible!
We had a Camphill in upstate NY. Us girls were able to go to school at Hawthorne Valley near by. At least for a few years. Id give anything to be able to be a part of that community again. Im crying watching this with how badly i feel like ive wasted my life. Im in the process of trying to introduce pollinator plants and food plants to our very sandy soil. Its the only work i feel is worthy at this point. I mean, besides my rescue cats. Thank you🐝🐞🌱🌻
This film tuched me deeply in my heart. What she told how she lived in Irland, thats my future world. Beautiful to heare her deepest thoughts. Thank you ❤
Thanks Sylvia!
Lovely way to live life. I live a similar life here on my farm in Spain. I too feel very wealthy, surrounded by animals and plants.
Awesome! Thanks Elizabeth.
Glorious watch!!! My happiest place is in my garden. Thank you for splashing my day with joy!!!!
That's my happiest place too!
The wisdom of young people like this gives me hope for our world. Thank you so much for sharing this with us all.
💚
What a refreshing perspective. I was not raised this way but it resides within me.
Thanks JK.
@Mattias, thank you for this beautiful and uplifting documentary. It is such an encouragement to both heart and mind, and comes at a wonderful time for me. Instant Like and Subscribe!. @Brigid, thank you for your beautiful embodiment, and reminder, of Donna Haraway’s “Staying with the Trouble”. You gave me new and deep insight into what that is all about, with your emphasis on the ferment (and the terrifying but delicious cheese mold!, too) that is feeding all of us. And our so beautiful ability to participate in creating welcoming spaces for amazing new and “other” wonder-ful and Well-thy life to feed and be fed.
Awesome! Thank you for that! :)
Vielen Dank!
I love the way she thinks, it feels much more true than the ways of thinking we are taught. And I love that she indirectly mentioned the fae because I truly believe there is truth in faeries. Perhaps if we acknowledged them more we would all have a deeper connection with nature.
And even if it turns out they're not there - living as though they are will surely enrich our lives.
Beautiful and inspiring film. Brings hope and great joy.
Thank you Clara.
Gosh that was beautiful. Thank you for creating this. All the best.
Thank you Christopher!
Thank you for bringing a new possibility and way of living life. A life so rich and fluid that it flows start from her heart to mine and all of us who spend time with her and you as well ,…
Thank you for sharing this uplifting story. Beautiful soul she is! 🙏🌺
💚
This is very interesting- Im extremely fortunate to be in a similar position as a professional gardener- i totally relate to her occasional panic about NOT having in a modern worldly situation! But by golly, our earth and our food security- thats a big part of every living things needs…and somewhere to call home…Blessed be this Earth in its hour of need.
Thank you so much for this! 💚
Wonderful what you are doing and saying sister. I am not a farmer or growing anything out of soil but think similarly about what you said about not doing really the fermenting or growing. That it manifests or happen on its won. I feel same about most of the activities i am into. Being an architect helping a design for a place to actualize or a cook in my house cooking for myself or bunch of friends, it happens on its won. i.e. in cooking the fire does the most of the thing while i cut some vegetables or stir in the pot. Same goes for being an architect. Its a wonderful feeling leaving you out of the responsibility in some sense and rather being some one who is in wonder before the whole happening.
Thanks for expressing this.
💛
WHAT an incredible film! Just mind-blowing and the most inspiring I've seen in last time... A great "Thank you" for this beautiful one!!
You are so welcome Grace!
Great woman! I love to meet her someday. Thanks for the video. Very peaceful lifestyle she makes for herself. That’s what it matters.
