I am 50. Culture has moved in 1 direction my entire life. Until the last maybe 2 years. And its accelerating and I live it. This is a chance to convert many to sanity. Attempt to love those who expect you to hate them. Let's break the paradigm.
I turned 50 this year. There have been a few cultural shifts I've noticed throughout my life, at least where I've been old enough to notice. Some more relevant than others. I recall in the 80's where gaming was going through it's crash, and Nintendo revived it. Soviet Union collapse definitely had a big vibe. I recall in the 90's there was a gradual, almost not noticeable, shift towards more "conservative" ideas, I think mostly to counter what was happening with the music industry, especially with music videos (MTV was getting way riskier. Marilyn Manson being forbidden from putting on concerts in certain states, especially after Columbine.) Kurt Cobain's suicide was definitely a big moment for folks my age at that time. And when 9/11 happened, BIG cultural shift. Big swing towards the right and nationalism. And now that I've looked back, I didn't realize it at the time, but the swing again towards the left, I would say I noticed when Resident Evil 5 came out in the late 2000’s, and reviews talking about how it was racist. I didn't understand that, or get it at the time, but now after having experienced the insanity that has been happening for the past 10+ years, I'd say that was the beginning of the big progressive push that has built up until now. It was exacerbated after the first Trump election. And now with the reelection, it's no longer a pendulum. It's a wrecking ball.
This last big push towards the left started with OWS back in 2011-that's when Bernie Sanders stopped being just a Senator from Vermont, communism stopped being considered as regarded an ideology as nazism, and people started blaming corporations instead of the government, who was now their well-meaning friend.
@THETHIRDL2009 yeah. The craziest thing about how fast things have shifted is that Trump is the first President who wasn't against gay marriage throughout his time in office. Obama was only cool with it once he started running for reelection. Having Obama's 2008 policy positions on LGBT would be essentially unimaginable for even a Republican today.
Children like to differentiate themselves from their parents' generation. One way to do that is ideologically. Thus the parents of the 1940s produced the hippies of the 1960s. The hippies produced the yuppies of the 1980s. The yuppies produced the neo-liberals of the 2000s. The neo-liberals produced the woke progressives of the 2020s. The woke progressives will create a new generation that repudiates them.
The thing is, many people claim to be atheist but they end up being anti-theist instead which is similar to having its own religion/cult that tends to form around the idea of hate against religious people. With it, comes extremism due to hate. I think when more people lost religion(Christianity, Muslim etc), their coping mechanism tend to search for meaning and something else to believe in. A group that has similarities to their own beliefs/opinion/feelings, and that was either anti-theism/political ideologies/other groups. What's worse is these groups has no "guidelines" like religion. No commandments for order/morals/ethics/respect.

I probably shouldn't even be bringing this up, and I should state that my political affiliation has never been firmly in one camp or another, I've always considered myself an independent and I would even say its safe to say I lean left in the majority of policies I believe in. That said, I remember getting, if not burned, dangerously singed by mob mentality on twitter for voicing an opinion that went against the norm of what my community was pushing heavily at the time. I'm a voice actor, and around 2019 or 2020 there was a big push for "POC (People of Color) Casting" in the voice acting community largely in response to the controversy of Hank Azaria stepping down from the role of Apu in the Simpsons. Casting calls all across the industry had suddenly changed to where they were looking to cast roles that belonged to a certain ethnicity only with actors of that ethnicity. It started with just race, but this trend very quickly evolved to also include LGBTQ+, so they were looking to cast gay or trans characters only with gay or trans actors, all in the name of "representation." One day, I made the argument on twitter that this was a terrible idea. I did not say so with any vitriol or anger, or even contempt, in fact I very calmly and intelligently stated my point that one of the things that made the voice acting industry so amazing to me personally is that ANYBODY can voice ANYONE. I have seen, personally, the hurdles of Hollywood type casting and how certain people will never, ever be able to have certain roles entirely based on how they look. I made the argument that choosing to cast VOICE actors based on the color of their skin felt wrong, like a regression with well meaning intentions rather than the progression everyone was claiming it to be. I simply didn't understand what a person's skin color or sexuality had to do with their ability to voice an animated character that's not even real. Actors should be chameleons, that should be able to transform themselves into anything, and what better way to do that than in voice acting, where no one ever sees your face at all. I knew people were likely to disagree with me, but I didn't think what I was saying was unreasonable, I was just adding my two cents to the conversation. Instead, I got dogpiled by not only strangers but by people I called my friends and colleagues which I had known for years. I was fortunate not to have been "cancelled" but I was most certainly shamed. The replies and comments reacted to my thoughts as if I had said black face was okay. I had failed to "read the room" and my opinion was "problematic." There were colleagues I had whom I'd known for years that I still haven't heard much from since. That's when I knew, even with good intentions and carefully chosen language, some opinions were forbidden from being discussed, at least if you wanted to keep your reputation and your ability to work with other people. I didn't stop talking about political things on occasion, probably because most of what I believe falls in line with what the very people who criticised me also believe, but that one divergence in opinion was enough to get the back of my wrists metaphorically slapped, and its always kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Not that I think the other side was/is any better. Social media has become a place of extremes where you have to be on one team or the other, and if you don't fit, no one likes you.

This is absolutely correct. I heard someone say once that Occupy Wall St. scared the shit out of the predator class. For the first time in decades, we had the target right over the bull's eye. Aside from the deep state/MIC, Wall Street is the most vicious demon we need to exorcise. It might be the biggest because our hijacked financial system finances the deep state/MIC. The predator class had to do something. So it conjured identity politics to distract us all, divide us, and act as a smokescreen for the focus on our financial system. Meanwhile we're all still suffering under it and worse than ever. Trump came along, and he became the perfect heel for the political kayfabe. Over a decade later, nothing has changed on Wall St. The only thing that has changed is we all know what the 1% is and the left no longer discusses economic & financial issues. Perfect derailment job by the predator class to our detriment. Predator class poli sci 101.

The shift towards censorship and controlled speech started imo a while back. probably like in 2014. The slow shift of not being able to jokingly call people "fags" or "gay" or "retarded" started when i was in the beginning of high school. at least where I lived at the time which was the oh so progressive Southern California. That was the first time I really noticed attempts to control other peoples speech. From there it snowballed into what we ended up with today and the average person has just let it go on for too long, no one cared to speak out about it. The shift now going the other way and what was the silent majority are starting to say "we've had enough of the loud minority yelling at us". For almost a decade, all this controlled speech and censoring was mostly done by fringe groups, or was done in the interests of fringe social groups. What's been actually happening has not been a representation of what the majority of people probably thought. And now people are fed up and clapping back against the, quite bluntly, bullshit suffocation of free speech rights of many people. People have had enough and can see through the cooperate media and big tech's lies. And the results of this past election prove that. Hopefully we can get back to that pre-2010's era culture where people are just people and are free to kinda do what they want as adults. And if you dont like it, who cares, you dont HAVE to interact with them, and if you do you can agree to disagree. This whole cancel culture stuff is a load of shit and 9 times out of 10 the average person doesn't really care.
the results of this last election don't prove anything. He got 50% of the votes, in a country where a large percentage of the population DO NOT vote. Why is this such a big issue for you? Why do you care? How does it negatively impact your life? Because you can't call people slurs? get over it.
Very well said. I've always said the great shift happened around 2015. When Kaepernick disrespected the Flag, which is supposed to be a symbol of ALL of us. Something we rallied around and that united us, even if we disagreed on many other things. Or maybe you could say Kaepernick (and the fact that he was honored) was the sign that we'd gone too far, but the wheels had already been turning in that direction for awhile. Either way, yes, it has gone on for way too long. We need to get back to sanity. Like you said, if you don't like what someone says, they don't have to be a part of your life. But we have to stop trying to ruin people's lives for speech. Or labeling millions of people "fascists" or "bigots" etc just for jokes or how they vote.

The instant i can speak my opinion without getting perma'd, i will. I don't care if people don't like what i think, i just don't bother screaming into a void.
I agree 100% about these people replacing religion with this new ideology. I noticed this about 10-15 years back with many of the most rabid feminists of the time coming from particularly strict religious backgrounds. They didn't believe in God anymore, or never did, but needed the structure and security of an organised group. Perhaps a need to validate their sense of self through a wider collective group identity and confirmation from others. I am an atheist. I've never felt the need for religion or any such thing but I can certainly see how it benefits others (and society at large) to be a part of such a united group. And I can certainly see how hollow some people must feel without it. They reject their religion and feel the need to fill that void. Such a shame that they chose to become zealots for something destructive in response to their rejection of their likely somewhat oppressive religious upbringing.
I can vouch a bit for those people because I grew up in said environment. You do get tired of it and start drifting away from it, but still retain the "zealot" inside somewhere. I got tired of it during middle school (forming my own beliefs against my family's teachings) but put on a mask of being a zealot until I was finally able to make my own decisions as an adult. I grew a lot mentally during that time because of life events (mainly from one source I will refrain from mentioning). I lost a piece of myself and sort of became a mindless zealot, but regained it but not before going the radical leftist/pipeline a bit before swinging back to right center. I speculate they lost the "intelligence" inside of them due to trauma, causing them not to be able to sort out their feelings and emotions. I don't mean it In a "they're dumb" way on their intelligence, just that they are more on a permanent autopilot locked in their emotions. They were lucky enough to see through dogmatic religion but not lucky enough to see through certain ideologies. I am also going to be mean here and say they weren't intelligent enough to sort out their emotions. I know I contradict myself when I say that but it's not easily put in words. I guess I can say they never broke out of the zealot "autopilot".
They went from believing a stable traditional entity that helped them stay comforted, to a man made religion that causes them to always be anxious and paranoid about "non-believers" (a cult).
Historians are vital to society at this point, when the past gets erased over and over again, people will lose their way if they go extreme in their own paths and beliefs. For spirituality or religion, it's not about who is right, but whether you are satisfied with your current "self"? Rather than telling others what they think, ask them if they are satisfied with their current self and position in life. Religion existed as a form of therapy basically, why did church have things like confessional booths and such?
I have noticed. I also want to point out this is probably the best 20 minutes I have heard from Asmond. He sounds more intelligent and less superficially snarky than usual. He also summarizes the current state of affairs in a way I could show it to my mom. Good shit.
Yes exactly. You will fill the void of religion with something. Even if you don't realize it. Make sure you fill it with something positive. Preferably including some kind of meditation and self found spirituality.
Trump getting shot was a big shift in my view. The anti-trump water cooler talk basically disappeared. The media barely mentioned it. But millions of people were outraged and incensed. And him shouting "FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT" was undeniable. That kind of bravery and strength speaks for itself and it characterised him as a martyr willing to sacrifice his life against an evil empire. It was literally old school Star Wars.
The problem is, for the trust to be mended in 10-20 years, they have to start now (or yesterday). There's not even a whiff of them starting, so that period might just be indefinite.
80 years. The cycle lasts 80 years. We've been moving further and further left since the liberal world order was established at the end of WWII in 1945, and the election codified the population's total repudiation of it coming upon 2025. It takes that long because the entire population has to be replaced with a new one that didn't experience the previous crisis themselves.

its even more dangerous, as they selectively hide comments for each individual, creating this way the narrative they want for each person. Facebook started doing this first, but only with the posts, showing only posts that are on one extreme side of the narrative that you were assigned to based on your profile. Also twitter seems to do something similar too but with both comments and posts.
It's crazy the amount of comments get auto-removed, you say certain chains of words they don't want you to talk about and they're gone. No mean words required.
@@Neonagi Yep its so sad. The amount of paragraphs i type to geniunely educate people, or try help someone that get deleted is so sad. And thats just me "playing by the rules". When i dont do so, and im arguing with someone the comment is deleted almost everytime. Its so sad. I dont like how twitter has gotten so bad, but i rather that then not being able to speak at all. Before there was a "reasonable censorship" u could still say all types of bad words minus only the "N" word basically. And just obviously horrible stuff was removed, but they have taken advantage of that and shown they cannot be trusted.
I feel like since 2001 their has been like a good 4 or 5 cultural shifts which seems to be quite a lot for 2 1/2 generational period of time.
The woke progressives will create a new generation that repudiates them.
the shift to the left post 90s is very accurately timestamped by the moment southpark added PC principal to make fun of it
The thing is, many people claim to be atheist but they end up being anti-theist instead which is similar to having its own religion/cult that tends to form around the idea of hate against religious people.
We saw this with communism a century ago. Many Western atheists refuse to acknowledge it even took place.

It started with just race, but this trend very quickly evolved to also include LGBTQ+, so they were looking to cast gay or trans characters only with gay or trans actors, all in the name of "representation."
One day, I made the argument on twitter that this was a terrible idea.

Since globalism kicked in around the early 90s it feels like we have been slowly mentally suffocated, I don't believe I'm alone in my views.

COVID + George Floyd explains the last 4 years perfectly. George Floyd explains the corporate DEI type behaviors and covid explains the government behaviors.
No, WEF does.
I'm always looking for the concise ways to explain it, this is definitely a good one 💯
In the case of the George Floyd riots, there's stories about people applying for jobs and being told that, even tho they are the perfect fit for the job when it comes to experience and qualities, them being white was an issue because of social sentiment at the time because of those riots. Total insanity.
Now explain who exactly was behind all the platforms and mainstream media who pushed all of this.
WEF, Larry Fink, Bill Gates trying to blackmail Elon Musk etc. etc. its like the villains trying to establish their own system...
The decline of the indoor shopping mall was a cultural shift, as Amazon took over. Probably starting around late 2000’s and early 2010’s. People have less options to meet up and hang out
It goes back even further than COVID. Since Occupy Wall Street in 2011 there began to be a marked shift in social media and algorithms. I really began to notice that it was becoming pervasive by 2012 and 2013, and it seemed to have become cemented by 2014. Also, Tumblr containment being breached by Yahoo. That's unironically been the cause of a major shift in online culture.

Occupy Wall Street in 2011 IMO was the first notable shift in modern day political rhetoric.

Agreed and imo, It’s closer to 20… because that’s the cycle of people growing up and reaching age to vote. It’s a social pendulum… it will always stay toward the middle unless it is pushed in one direction drastically. Then it will swing in the opposite direction as a reaction to that extremism in then next cycle. It happens with politics, economy and pop culture.
@@gottesurteil3201 Hippies wanted free love, no war, and to legally smoke pot. They didn't want marxist woke oppression and endless wars, although the pot thing may be coming to fruition.

Obama 2008.
the results of this last election don't prove anything. He got 50% of the votes, in a country where a large percentage of the population DO NOT vote. Statistically it's not as big as you guys think, the democrats mismanaged it, kamala was never going to win and biden was too old to win. It was obvious Trump was going to win regardless.
People just want to exist, gay people just want to exist without being abandoned by their family, just like YOU want to exist and live your life people who aren't you want the same.

In a way i feel they were taken advantage of. Identify politics became the new cult
