Back in the '80s I used to make my own PCBs as well. I was in a drafting class, and I created all sorts of templates on microCAD that was running on IBM PCXT. They also had a b size plotter. So I would make whatever it was I needed, then I would put a clear mylar type material in the plotter with a proper black marker. I would then bring my PCB layout and the copper clad board down to printing. They had a very powerful arc light to burn the image in. We would then toss it into the goop to reveal the circuit board. In the earliest stage is, I would just get the thin black tape and layout my simple circuit boards. Things have certainly come a long way since then!
@@bytesizedengineering I was very ambitious in high school, when I did that. Now, I have little time to do the things that I really would like to do. Great video, brings me back.
The reason they didn't put any silk screen there is because it's simply not possible. It can't stick to that surface. It would literally just fall off after curing (maybe thats what happened). It has to go on top of the solder mask. Cool stuff. I see tons of different PCB's in my work, and every now and then there is someone that has been creative (usually with the silk screen print), but this is next level lol, even though they are technically not PCB's anymore.
Many PCB MFRs will not place silk on copper layers by default so I'm not surprised that they didn't allow that even after asking you. One fix would be to open each as a 2-color image BMP in Paint and use your Silk layer to remove those parts of your Copper layer, then you are not asking for Silk over your Copper.
Hi. When I use the negative version of the image, the fingerprint in Kicad appears with the background in addition to the photo, but that doesn't happen to you. Do you do any additional steps?

It's amazing that you have first hand experience with those processes

Great video and cool PCB art! I especially like the non copyright infringing space ship!!
Awesome video Zach! Definitely saving this one for reference later. Keep up the great work!
? Wondering why you put the holes for the key-chain so they would be upside down?

It’s a great video, but I’m having a problem with the program allowing me to do f.silk F.cu. Ect.. save file.
What happens when you try to save it? Can you describe your problem in detail?
