And when I heard about Francafrique and how France managed to make these countries subservient to France in terms of economy, foreign interests that makes these countries mostly reliant on France and even make these countries pay a type of tax to France and even their CFA Francs are all printed, distributed and controlled by France and thus, making these countries incapable of improving in terms of infrastructure, basic needs, healthcare, education and etc. And these coups are most certainly have to do with the fact that the leaders have to abide by the status quo of this Francafrique system and thus also breeds high level of corruption among the elites of these countries and these Junta leaders are trying to break that status quo and tell France to leave them alone. And it’s no wonder this gave opportunity for groups like the Russia Wagner group to persue their own interests in these Francafrique countries allying themselves with Anti French rebels in the guise of “breaking up colonialism” once in for all. One of the reasons Bamako were frustrated with France was that France was only willing to fight the jihadists and not the Azawad rebels and sort of twisted Bamako’s arm into agreeing to peace with them to focus on the jihadists. It’s very likely one of the reasons the junta chose to boot out France for Russia was because they knew the Russians would help against Azawad.
Bingo. I can't believe ppl fail to see this. They caused WAY more harm than AQ as they used tribal affiliations to conduct cross border attacks whilst being (allegedly) supported by France in return for not coordinating with AQ. The people of Mali had enough saying that wasn't a good enough trade off as BOTH groups were a murderous problem. Heck their killcount surpassed AQ in the last 5yrs. Frances policy was untenable. You know who else came to this conclusion U.S. AFRICOM, in leaked documents they concluded france was actually insulating the rebels without degrading AQ and they would bare the brunt of the frustration borne out of the massacres conducted virtually in their name

@@cjshow-zp6nh I don't think you should underestimate Russian geopolitical interests and boil it down purely to economics/wagner private gain like this. I don't think it's that unreasonable to think that Mali is so weak that it'll collapse the moment someone finds mild interest in doing so and low respect for countries sovereignty. Mali has 22million people, ~a seventh the size of Russia but just comparing active personnel Russia has 1.4 million and Mali has 44000 (31x the size). Even with the Ukraine war they don't pose that big a distraction and considering they get to use local rebels it's likely they're much more effective than just 1 to 1. My point is simply they're on a very small scale compared to other countries. Wagner has taken economic interests in Africa for a long time before the war, getting gold mining rights etc and but you don't see Wagner overthrowing governments. This was in the time-frrame where Russia was probably set to invade Ukraine in the very near future yet wouldn't know what a nightmare that would be. Looking at Russian state media outlets they've accidentally released scheduled victory announcements that focus on the supposed multi-polar world order they established through their invasion. Russias ambitions are much larger than a small land-grab in Ukraine. Which is why the west is so worried and is supporting Ukraine, appeasement failed before this. The timing is always very interesting with coups because they've got little innate reasons for their timing unlike an invasion which may depend on weather. Also the CFA franc isn't such an obvious negative as you portray it. France is ironically facing the same issue with the euro. They'd really like more control of the currency right now. And it’s no wonder this gave opportunity for groups like the Russia Wagner group to persue their own interests in these Francafrique countries allying themselves with Anti French rebels in the guise of “breaking up colonialism” once in for all.

I wrote in an older video, changing french military for Russia/wagner is a big mistake. While the french are not angels, they were far more cautious about what they were doing, Russia is just going to transform Mali into a battleground for decades.
The situation in Mali is only going to get worse.
TLDR omits one important fact: It was around 5.000 French troops and now it's only 1.000 Wagner troops. TLDR makes it about military capabilities in general because TLDR wants to mislead you. Not LIE to you but MISLEAD you.
This conflict gets so little coverage in Europe. I guess no one wants to talk about the source of migrants but with so many people worried about them helping this country should be a priority
But the junta doesn't want the Europens to help. They choosed Russia. I am afraid that will turn out to be a mistake leading to numerous war crimes by Wagner and to destabilizing the country even more.

Why couldn't the north just let the southerners leave.😂

West african here. Although it is a defeat for wagner let's not overblow the situation. It happen at the frontier with Algeria. Report from Al Jazeera saying that the situation worsened under Wagner:
The Malian military government, in a bid to defeat separatist rebels and fighters in the north developed ties with Russia’s military and its Wagner Group of mercenaries, but the alliance has struggled to put an end to rebel activities which appear to have escalated, especially since the country ordered the UN peacekeeping mission known as the Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) and its 15,000 international soldiers to depart last year.
“Since UN peacekeepers left last year, Islamist militants have been attacking communities in the northeast on a regular basis,” Adama Traore, a 45-year-old farmer who fled from Ouattagouna to Ayourou last August, told Al Jazeera.

I think the US or the French helped the Tuaregs in this battle with intelligence. Actually, why don't the Tuaregs have their own state? They don't want to be under the Subsaharians and I understand that.
Few things, so far videos show two white figures in the unit photos of the rebels. They hold there flag and an Ukraine flag so it’s likely these are Ukrainian agents which already have been confirmed in the ME against Wagner.
It’s possible the US are involved tangentially but also it’s a slippery slope for the US as this conflict would only further destabilize the Sahel Region which recently has seen multiple authoritarian coups.
USA and France was never really at war with the Tuaregs and are sensible to their cause. That's why France always refused to fight them.

6:00 A small note; the word "casualty" is not a synonym for "dead". Casualties include dead but also prisoners of war, missing in action, deserters and wounded (how wounded you have to be to count here depends on who you ask but if you have to withdraw to recieve care you should count). A very, very rough estimate is generally that you have 1 dead per 3 wounded, so if 50+ Russians died it's fair to assume that there are quite a few more who might not be able to fight on, possibly ever.
