I think a lot of modern fans don’t understand that AI made you chase him around for literally 48mins. He’s easily one of the most God-given gifted athletes to ever play in the NBA. If his opponent has a bad night shooting from 3, those long rebounds could get AI 30+ points off fast breaks alone.
He was such a great athlete he was the #1 basketball player in the country as well as the # football player not as an athlete but a QB. in a class that included Charles Woodson and the none other than PEYTON MANNING
Allen Iverson was one of the most iconic, game-changing superstars the NBA has ever seen.
Iverson also benefited from the era in which he played.
He hit his prime right during the time in which hero ball was fully accepted, and that allowed him to make full use of his talents alongside his lackluster teammates on the Philadelphia 76ers.
One of my Top 5 favorite bssketball payers of all time. He had his flaws (some of the same as I have) but one thing about it you never questioned his effort or his will to win. Salute to "The Answer"!!
When Iverson gave Kobe the business in game 1 of the finals. I thought 💭 he’s the 🐐 of 6”2” point guards. Put a 48 piece 🍗 on the Lakers and the sixers won the game and more importantly didn’t get swept 🧹.!!inclosing Iverson was a one of one/ classic/ legend of the NBA.!! If you heard 👂 the comments and the people talking who played with him didn’t reveal the name. You would have thought 💭 they were talking about Rodman. I never knew he partied 🥃 🍺 like that and got 40 the next day.!! Wow

Nah. Iverson was barely 6 feet. I'm 6'1" and stood by him in line at Club Maui in Philly. I spoke, gave him dap. He was cool as hell. Oh by the way he was was Fab who is taller than both of us. I went to college in South Jersey. Saw him play 6 times. He was a 99 speed. Video game stuff.

My story about Iverson:
Im from Memphis and I played basketball for Treadwell (Home of Penny and Jerry Lawler). At the time we had another star just graduate and go play for the University of Memphis (Memphis State at that time). His name is Chris Garner. Older ppl may know him. Chris became the starting PG for Memphis his freshman year. The same year that AI went to Georgetown.
Freshman year they play each other and Memphis wins. Sophomore year they play again. Chris is the fastest player ive ever seen in person and one of the best that I'd ever seen. Memphis gets blown out by Georgetown and it was only 1 of their 3 losses that season.
I remember vividly after school the boys and myself play some pickup games at our local Boy's Club. Chris comes in later to run some games with us. I remember us clowning him because AI dropped 40 on him. Chris is fast and a defensive powerhouse. Think he led the NCAA in steals 1 or 2 of his 4yrs in college. He told us all that Iverson was the 2nd greatest player he'd ever seen behind Jordan and had the potential to surpass him. He said that it was the most humbling game he had ever played and dude was him.
Ive never forgotten those words and clearly he was correct.
Iverson will go down like Barkley, Ewing, Stockton, Malone, Kemp, and many others as one of the greatest to never win. Dude just like many others was an absolute beast and treat to watch play.
But like Hakeem, he didn’t have great teammates
Tbh he’s a level above them because they all had better teams throughout their primes. Iversons best player he played with his first 8-10 years are, Derrick Coleman, a young Larry Hughes, a young Louis Williams, a young Jerry stackhouae, an old mutumbo, an old Glen Robinson…. Barkley played with KJ who iverson said was the firsts player to buss his ass, Stockton and Malone played together, kemp played with GP. Iverson is hands down the best player per pound in NBA history literally 5-10 ppl be nice giving him 5-11 or 6ft. Only little man to dominate a league. Can’t say Isiah because even though he’s great he also had a great team. Can’t say Steph, not only had a great team but even Steph about 6’2-6’3. Can’t say Kyrie, as great as he is he’s never been able to carry the way iverson did ( partially because it’s a new nba but the fact still stands ). AI to me doesn’t get the overall respect he deserves in the basketball conversation, not just popularity. People like to harp on shooting percentage and efficiency but it’s hard to be very efficient when you team is full of non offensive players who are also non shooters. So now teams can basically zone up against you. Which is what LA did in the finals and he still average 30+. They had one player chase him around playing simple man ( t lue ) and the had everybody else playing elbows waiting to collapse. Not other guard in NBA history has ever had to deal with A BOX AND 1 DEFENSE ALMOST EVERY GAME OF THEIR CAREER 😂
Ai changed the game and dress code. It’s undeniable. He was a beast on the court for his side. 🫡

Took me a minute to appreciate his game, I didn't watch much Big East hoops and didn't follow East Coast pro teams very close either. Once he got onto my radar though I became a big fan, bro was a legit badass!

Iverson with serious training, especially shooting, could have been in the GOAT conversation.
I liked the way he played shooting guard under Larry Brown, swinging into screens to get open shots or to get opponents in the wind. His 2001 season and playoffs were awesome !

I’ll admit, growing up he was one of my least favorite players. I thought he was a ball hog, only cared about stats, etc.
Once I hit my mid-20s, I realized just how wrong I was. Iverson is - without hyperbole - in the top 5 when it comes to most influential players. He brought hip hop culture to the game, inspiring so many players as well as non-pros.
Most of all, his work ethic was incredible. Despite being the smallest guy on the court, he played like a tank with speed. The amount of damage he put his body through for the sake of winning is remarkably admirable.
So, yeah. Went from being one of my least favorite to being in my top 10.

The Answer! One of my favorite players ever because he never flopped! He would get to the rim, get smacked by bigs like Shaq ten times, and he got up 11 times, and gave you 40! Plus, his effort on defense is undervalued! If I remember correctly, it was Mamba who said that we're lucky he's 6 feet tall, because if he was 6.6 he'd be in the GOAT conversation! One of the greatest little guys ever! One of the greatest to ever do, so much love and respect for A.I and especially much love and respect for staying true to himself!

I’m from the Philadelphia area and the biggest take away is AI is the only superstar that could go anywhere in Philly without security. He probably is the most beloved athlete to any city. He was as real as it comes. No one would ever in Philly think about hurting him. He went to the clubs I went to or worked at while I was in college. Him and I are the same age but I was redshirted and went to college for 5 years. NFL was up next for (3) seasons of practice squad and inactive on 53 man roster on (4) teams

Of course I was very impressed by AI's legendary monster 40+ point games. I also remember WAY too many games when Iverson had 27pts shooting 11 for 40 or worse.
