Shiki plays into that symbolism as well. His dynamic with Arc is that of 'the dark side of the moon' where Arc is a vampire; a born monster who has arguably more humanity than anyone else in the cast, and Shiki, a normal good person cursed by multiple factors and his disposition to commit and take pleasure in invariably evil acts. The idea being that everyone has good and bad qualities. The ways Shiki develops over the various arcs reflect differing ratios (the potential for people to be good and bad)- differing phases of the moon, if you will. Shiki is especially interesting to me having read Fate and comparing him with Shirou. Shirou is a very principled person, he lives by a stringent code of conduct that he holds himself to, and every decision he makes stems from that. Shiki on the other hand, lives moreso in the moment; deciding on a case by case basis how he should react to a given scenario. He often shirks responsibilities, indulges in himself, values his agency and is fine just drifting through life without a clear goal as long as he can be happy right now. Shirou, when looking at it this way, is predictable in how consistently he reacts, while Shiki could approach the same situation radically differently depending on the context. Not to criticise either of them, I'm just observing that that's how they're written differently. This characterisation sets Shiki at odds against every other major player; his sister and the maids who in their lifestyle and Shiki's separation from Akiha as a child, create an attitude of disdain towards those high-class roots. Ciel and Arc are only here to fulfill a duty, which Shiki only comes to care about as he's forced to participate in it due to the circumstances. Depending on the route, Shiki will either grow into a more responsible person for the sake of his loved ones, or go insane as he continues to disappoint them and himself, his indulgence gauged symbolically by how his eyes adversely affect him.
In some way, Hisui and Kohaku represents the same aspect, but with different approachs. Kohaku is much more mysterious and distant than Hisui, but put an act to hide her true self.

it kills me inside that this still hasn't been remade and instead the focus is on a mobile game. one of the first visual novels I ever completed and still love it to this day.
Right now, just 5 minutes ago, I finished reading Tsukihime, ending the story with the Eclipse, and the last goodbye to Aoko. The only think that I want to soy, I'm grateful to have been able to read this really long story about a teenager with magic eyes, an airhead vampire, a curry obsessed battle nun, a younger sister that would confirm every theory of Sigmund Freud, a maid that is the only trully innocent person in this story and the other maid that is the only real victim of everything. Despite the somewhat boring moments, the really old and not that polished product because lack of money, time and experience, despite the cringy H scenes, despite all that, this story and specially these characters will hold forever a spot in my heart.
After listening to this I reinstalled my copy of TsukiBako. There goes my next week and im looking forward to every second of it! Words cannot explain how I feel about this game and FSN....
Well, the sex scenes take (save a few) a very deep reason to occur. That is for both Tsukihime AND Fate/Stay Night. The difference is that Shiki is a moron as a lover, while Shirou actually tries to please his partner. Plotwise, you can fastforward these scenes and keep reading without spoiling it. But it sure pays to see the main hero declaring and making love to the route's girl who rocked his world. Because you don't actually "see", you just read a description of it. It's not a hentai.
Can't wait for Sacchin route (though a cat route would be fine, too). I want it so much that I won't die even if I'm killed! Anyways, Tsukihime was so awesome.. too bad they never made the anime.
I never played this VN. I just open this video by random and when I see the art style I feel nostalgic and I want to cry. Mann we're getting older. Shit time flies fast like a hell
Akiha route is perhaps the best route the game have because of the way the character's inner conflict was potrayed. Plus the sex scene event really add much to the emotional impact in the plot as it come toward the ending. In my opinion, out of all the route, Akiha story would actually be hurt more if the sex scene was removed compared to the other character route as it was the very thing that crystalize all the feeling of Akiha which cause the final branch decision to feel much more personal.
Good first upload, I like it when people post what other people want to see. lol No stupid title saying what it is or anything in the video, just a good picture and the music. Thanks!
Wow I just finished the VN and it's sooo good. I've been a huge fate fan for a while and I didn't no nasu had another great work out before he even made fsn. I hope we get that remake any day now. It hasn't aged well. I also hope to see ufotable adapt it one day.
Ah Tsukihime. The original to this day (imo) is *a flawed masterpiece and the best urban fantasy vampire story ever written* . It doesn't change classic vampire lore too much, just re-contextualizes it to fit into Nasu's magic system and fantasy world. And it keeps the scary part of being a vampire/being confronted by a vampire. It also manages to tell a romance story between a human and a vampire without deteriorating into cringe emo-teen nonsense like so many western takes or many modern vampire anime. But what makes Tsukihime really a masterpiece is the cast and the drama between them. It was very cool and interesting to see how different Shiki and each of the heroines act in each different route. *Shiki, Arcueid, Ciel (despite her route being pretty bad), Akiha, Hisui, Kohaku and even Satsuki* are such great characters that grow on you immensely. The tragedy and horrors they live through really pull you on the edge of your seat until you hit the emotionally touching, but cathargic endings. A shame this version won't be experienced by many as TM pretty much abandoned it and potential newcomers probably will favor the shiny (but mediocre) and fate-pandering Remake. At least it means that the OG version won't be violated by TM's modern business practices.
It's quite unfortunate Satsuki route didn't make it to the OG hence why i was really hopeful for the remake of it so i couldve seen her side of the story, buuuut quite frankly Near side Reamek didn't really hit it for me, they introduced way too many pointless characters which made me wanna quit reading (thank lord i can choose Kohaku as my doctor examinator) and yes, still no Far-side route in sight but after seeing so much goofy stuff introduced i don't think they'll keep the psychological horror of Far-side intact. Especially because Arc route wasn't really changed except for Vlov being there instead of Chaos and Ciel route just to make her more flashy.
@@LightWavess I agree. It's really a shame because Tsukihime (Remake) had so much potential to be an absolute banger. It is what it is now. The last thing I read from Nasu and liked was Mahoutsukai no Yoru. And I'm fine with that because I know as Nasu/Takeuchi is now, they could never recapture the magic MahouYo, Kara no Kyoukai and OG Tsukihime had. This is why I moved on from this franchise as it doesn't have anything left that appeals to me.
@@justasoulsfan9805 If i live long enough to see Far-side routes i still might play it for Hisui route but if they keep Shiki in bed for like 4 days i am going to lose it. I can still have hopes they won't goof off the other half of the game and keep it serious.
@@LightWavess Okay then I hope that you'll enjoy Far Side Remake. I doubt I'll give it a chance. For that, too much nonsense was shoved into Near Side Remake already. Personally I lost any investment in the Tsukihime franchise a while ago.
@@justasoulsfan9805 It's not really an investment because i didn't even buy it because ofc they didn't bother to even localized the remake (and they even announced they will right when the fan translation was done) which is a big joke on their part. People waited for 12 years with no hopes and they don't even bother to fully release the game instead they split it in half with no western translation? Jesus
Most people found out about Tsukihime through the Fate series but I found out about it through Under Night in Birth because Eltnum is in the game but she's actually from Melty blood which I later found out is one of the sequels to Tsukihime.
to be honest ....i like both of fate and tsukihime even tho tsukihime is far older its still the best ....i think if it had been adapted in a far better and newer anime series ..like ufotable did with fsn .. i think it would be more famous ..
Azikizi Mc.Otaku download tutorials &more I found the drama more engaging. Every route I finished, I find myself loving the series even more. It progressively got better til the end. Fate on the other hand I find easier to get into through the epic battles. The main selling point to me was the ideals of heroism and the way it was challenged.
Then the same situation would happen with Tsukihime like it did with Fate, Nasu would seize the opportunity and milk it for money. Then you would have people wanting a Fate Stay Night remake. Then again, this is coming from someone who prefers FSN and KnK over Tsuki.
Well, in Arcueid's route Shiki couldn't care less about Akiha besides as a sister. He only has eyes for a certain vampire, and that's it. Akiha, on the other hand, uses her status as "sister" a lot, even in other people's routes to prevent him from going out (specially at night, as she wouldn't be able to follow). If she could, she would keep him close at all times. And she knows they are not siblings. Come on, this situation is rather common in books and even televisive novels. It's not sick.
It seems everyone is flocking to the older osts to get that nostalgia dose Seriously its awesome we getting a remake this year I really loved Tsukihime as it was my first VN If possible I would wish a re write as well The writing and some scripts were too bad and like an injustice to this fantastic setting
The rewrites/additions of the Remake were even worse. As bad as the bad parts of OG Tsuki were, they were at least shorter thanks to the precise, on point pacing the OG VN had.
@justasoulsfan9805 Lol, some people are just not get used to reading for longer than an hour. 😂 Remake improved in almost every way. Bad parts of Tsuki are mostly in far side routes where the pacing is slower, Remake doesn't even have any slow moments at all. Pls up your reading capabilities.
@@greenlitlleman LMAO at a typical Nasu-fan who thinks he's a literature connoisseur. Seriously, Nasu should improve his writing first. The fact that you think the remake doesn't have slow moments (in fact it's bloated af) only proofs that Nasu's fans became so acceptant of his bad writing habits, their assessment should be taken with a grain of salt. All of Nasu's worst trademarks (long winded exposition dumps, crapping over his worldbuilding and magic systems for ''rule of cool'', plot-induced stupidity, overuse of the worf effect, bad pacing, inconsistent tone, repeating himself ad nauseam) are present in Tsukihime Remake and reach a new high. These problems are present in all Nasu works, however it's very notable since you can compare Remake Tsukihime with OG Tsukihime and arguably even FSN as well. And while OG Tsukihime had (similar if not outright the same) problems as well, it was way more focused and too the point, thanks to its shorter runtime. Nasu always was at his best when writing characters, their interaction and attaching themes to them. He's mediocre to appalingly bad in pretty much everything else. And TsukiRE confirms it once more. Just that the characters in Remake are downgrades across the board (with Shiki himself being the only exception). PS: Near Side always was a flawed mess and is rightfully seen as the weaker part of the VN. And Remake made sure it will forever stay that way. Far Side is seen as better because it's slower paced, but focused on meaningful things like character interactions, the drama. It also builds up the mystery and tension way better. Characters have believable motives. As for upping my reading capabilities... how about you read an actual book for once instead of glorified power point presentations that are partly carried by shiny visuals, a soundtrack and sold as ''games'' lol If the text keeps me intrigued I can easily read half/two-thirds of a 500 page novel and finish the remaining pages on the next day. So it definitely isn't due to a ''lack of reading capabilities''. Rather Nasu's writing (which btw never improved outside of prose) is what turns me off.
@@justasoulsfan9805 Bruh, I'm literally an author who earns with his writing and watched / read a bunch of related material, including the creative writing Stanford course by Brandon Sanderson... Remake has some obvious bad writing parts that exist mostly because Nasu just copypasted some parts from the original without any proper editing, the worst being Ciel's true end. But other than that, he nailed most aspects of modern writing like creating suspense, making promises and fulfilling them, exploring characters and their motivations, etc. I would explain to you in more detail, but you don't seem to be competent enough in the topic for me to bother.
This was and is actually my favorite visual novel, it have a super wow story and the sountrack is so great, also, the akiha's route leave me with a really feel of emptyness, but, it's ok, i love kohaku's instead.
Today is the day Arc arrives on this side to aid in our quest to restore the human order. May this song bring us our hopes the same way it reflects the beauty of the moon.
i've always felt tsukihime was superior to F/SN; better dramatically and much more deep in that regard story-wise. characters are also far more likable in tsukihime.
@Old Liquidi did, and i still preferred tsukihime. I like the more mature and less cliched plot of it. Shiro is the typical shonen hero with abnormal amounts of justice, while shiki is more human
@@dharmdevil You didn't get shirou then, the whole point of UBW is how sickening his sense of justice was, and how it is just his way to cope with his survivor's guilt
@@strayorion2031 it's not that I didnt get shirou. you simply have a very shallow take on his character. that coping eventually became his very being, and in UBW he accepted it with full resolve. What I meant is that Shiki is more relatable to reader/normal person, full of flaws. His motivations are closer to an everyday teenager while Shirou have that built in superhero circumstance from the very start that made him into this walking embodiment of justice and righteousness.

it kills me inside that this still hasn't been remade and instead the focus is on a mobile game. one of the first visual novels I ever completed and still love it to this day.
For clarification, doujin is an adjective. The noun usage (for manga) would be doujinshi.
At the end... we meet again.
The theme for TsukiR still cant beat this, especially 1:12
Remake out next year for PS4 and switch, bois. Saw the pv, super excited!
may very well be the best song in this vn's soundtrack
Kohaku is best girl imo(didn't care for what she put us through she deserves happiness)
After listening to this I reinstalled my copy of TsukiBako. There goes my next week and im looking forward to every second of it! Words cannot explain how I feel about this game and FSN....
Hisui, Arcueid and Ciel, my favorites
I fell asleep last night while listening to this.
Haaaa that Hisui true end still gives me shiver years later
Can't wait for Sacchin route (though a cat route would be fine, too). I want it so much that I won't die even if I'm killed!
Anyways, Tsukihime was so awesome.. too bad they never made the anime.
Just grabbed my copy of Tsukihime Remake, came back here to enjoy the original before diving into the new
Fgo needs to bring Tsukihime back to life. After HF all we need is Tsukihime.
Glad I got to read this VN and play through Arcueid route for the first time while I'm still 14. Now just a few more routes to go
I never played this VN. I just open this video by random and when I see the art style I feel nostalgic and I want to cry. Mann we're getting older. Shit time flies fast like a hell
Tsukihime does have a property that just makes you cry. This theme alone makes me cry from all the memories
I'm still waiting a good adaptation of Tsukihime :(
Arent we all
And a FGO collab event
There was a bad adaptation? I thought those were just fan made clips
The manga adaptation is great though?

Akiha route is perhaps the best route the game have because of the way the character's inner conflict was potrayed. Plus the sex scene event really add much to the emotional impact in the plot as it come toward the ending. In my opinion, out of all the route, Akiha story would actually be hurt more if the sex scene was removed compared to the other character route as it was the very thing that crystalize all the feeling of Akiha which cause the final branch decision to feel much more personal.

I just finished Tsukihime yesterday and I feel happy and sad all at the same time.
Good first upload, I like it when people post what other people want to see. lol No stupid title saying what it is or anything in the video, just a good picture and the music. Thanks!
que recuerdos me trae esta cancion
Is so funny to me that everytime Shiki finds himself in a dilemma his natural reaction is:"I must rape this thing."
Wow I just finished the VN and it's sooo good. I've been a huge fate fan for a while and I didn't no nasu had another great work out before he even made fsn. I hope we get that remake any day now. It hasn't aged well. I also hope to see ufotable adapt it one day.
dont forget to read the manga
@@MrInuhanyou123 I'm going to get on that right after I finish Kagetsu Tohya
*I found out about tsukihime through Kara no kyoukai lol and I found out about mahou no tsukai through tsukihime lol*
@@water_25 That's cool. KnK is one of my favorite movie series.
Never gets old
to be honest ....i like both of fate and tsukihime even tho tsukihime is far older its still the best ....i think if it had been adapted in a far better and newer anime series ..like ufotable did with fsn .. i think it would be more famous ..
Agreed
Well, in Arcueid's route Shiki couldn't care less about Akiha besides as a sister. He only has eyes for a certain vampire, and that's it.
Akiha, on the other hand, uses her status as "sister" a lot, even in other people's routes to prevent him from going out (specially at night, as she wouldn't be able to follow). If she could, she would keep him close at all times. And she knows they are not siblings.
Come on, this situation is rather common in books and even televisive novels. It's not sick.
You know why you're here boys
We finally have the remake localized!!!
Fun fact: This was played on the TV news SFX on the fate stay night VN
Yeah, very soothing =)
Nice upload. But listening to this song when I study will put me to sleep.
damn I love kohaku

kohaku's story really touched me she endured everything to garuntee her sister's safety to the point of break down and have fake smile
Aww I miss this novel
It seems everyone is flocking to the older osts to get that nostalgia dose
Seriously its awesome we getting a remake this year
I really loved Tsukihime as it was my first VN
If possible I would wish a re write as well
The writing and some scripts were too bad and like an injustice to this fantastic setting
Tsukihime was also my first VN ;D
The rewrites/additions of the Remake were even worse. As bad as the bad parts of OG Tsuki were, they were at least shorter thanks to the precise, on point pacing the OG VN had.
@justasoulsfan9805 Lol, some people are just not get used to reading for longer than an hour. 😂
Remake improved in almost every way.
As for upping my reading capabilities... how about you read an actual book for once instead of glorified power point presentations that are partly carried by shiny visuals, a soundtrack and sold as ''games'' lol
If the text keeps me intrigued I can easily read half/two-thirds of a 500 page novel and finish the remaining pages on the next day.
I would explain to you in more detail, but you don't seem to be competent enough in the topic for me to bother.

i've always felt tsukihime was superior to F/SN; better dramatically and much more deep in that regard story-wise. characters are also far more likable in tsukihime.
...And then, there is me...I can't even stand Artoria...or Taiga...
6 years later, still no remake
His motivations are closer to an everyday teenager while Shirou have that built in superhero circumstance from the very start that made him into this walking embodiment of justice and righteousness.
technetium's trance core remix is blisteringly beautiful and hard.
