After about half a year of coordination, I was finally blessed to be fishing with Jon Lua of Island Style Slayers (ISS). We got bait at Reggie's Tackle Shack and Ghost Bait & Tackle. My stomping ground is the Walnut Grove area; however, I fish all over the Sacramento River from Stockton to Verona and beyond. It mostly depends on where I’m invited. Grateful for your comment. 👍🙏🎣JU Hammah⚒
Hey JU. What type of rod and reel do you suggest for striper bank fishing?
At some locations, you will need distance, you should use a 8’6” MH rod & at least 300 series reel or higher to hold more lines. The best is to use lighter rods & reels that will enable you a great fight! To me it’s just fishing and making new friends and memories….catching is da bonus! Grateful for your visit! 🙏🙏🙏

Sorry for the bad explanation. It is a “fish finder rig,” with a heavy sinker slider (size 3 or bigger) before a big swivel (size 3 or bigger). Jon used 10 lbs. mono test for both mainline and leader. I used 30 braid for mainline and 20 mono for leader. Leader is ~ 3 feet, 1/0 circle hook & 4 oz. Pyramid sinker. We changed baits every half an hour. We wrapped anchovies or sardines with magic thread. We double up when using pile or blood worms, i.e., two worms per hook. Had plenty of baits. Hope that help. Right now they’re all over the Sacramento River near Sacramento down town. This spot is in the West Sacramento. Find a spot where it’s safe & legal to park. Hopefully, you will see other striped bass anglers nearby. Have a blessed day! 👍👍👍

Hey JU was rewatching this and noticed you guys were using circle hooks. I'm thinking about trying them and wanted to know how you like them and what your experience with them is like. Have always used octopus j hooks, but sometimes setting the hook at the right time can be a challenge!
Jon really like the circle hooks. I use whatever rigs that my host suggested. I have many types of hooks. What’s interesting is that Jon set the hooks even with circle hooks. When I visit Sacramento and go fishing I catch nothing lol and fishing permit was almost $100 smh in hawaii no permit needed and so I wouldn’t feel bad not catching.
I know how you feel. I have purchased fishing licenses for many other states that I visited also. It can be very costly. There is no such thing as a guarantee in fishing, but paying for a professional fishing guide comes close. I am blessed to fish with local anglers that knows their stuff. if ya wanna catch the big striper 10lb plus in sac river, try to catch them northern pipe as live bait! even the (northern pipe) are dead they still work good too as long they r fresh...the reason why I dont like using store bait is because them non keeper or small stripers be turning it up once it hit the water...u can use red worm or oily cheese to catch those northern pipe!

It's hot all over Sacramento River & Feather River now. Just about any locations that you know should be good. Look for parked vehicles along Old River Road or Garden Highway. Actually, I heard that people are trying to enact laws in California to harvest more striped bass! Not new to fishing. I hold my stripers by hand, no gloves. I'm too manly. A little cut doesn't hurt me. Yes, they get damaged lips and throat. Definitely not new to fishing. Got respect for all fish.
