Let’s go. Charlie is a senior at the high school my wife works at. She’s been telling me about him this school year and how good he’s been doing. Congratulations
Terrific race and terrific coverage! Thank you for posting. As always Cross country running is very unpredictable and it’s hard to predict the winner especially when you have such a stacked field of rock stars!
So if the southwest region has the First ,Second, and third NXN teams why do we only get four spots. Side note why doesn’t Utah have their own region 2 of the teams in the top 3 for the past two years have been from Utah. 2 teams in the top 10 have been from Utah for the past 5 years! Seems weird to me
Same reason why in the Olympics you only get so many spots per country per sport… so there is representation from everyone. Otherwise you’d see countries like South Korea fielding the whole shooting competitions
@spencerj6557 ok. This isn't the Olympics and the fastest people should be running at nationals. There were teams from New York. I think the Manhattan team wouldn't even make it into the championship race at NXR Southwest. Their first guy was 17:08 in this race
@@aaroneskelson1799 then open the field to allows more teams if you want that. But you need to include other regions even if their slower, it’s the same for college and pros
Manny Putz was positioned so well in 7th at 1k, but got tripped when someone fell at 13:15. That's the same corner that Leonard fell in later in the course. Certainly would've been the favorite in the front group had that not happened
This course was in such poor condition with all the falls effecting the race. Would stink to work all year to run into a fall to end your season. What happened to Joe Barrett dropping to 84th.
What are you talking about? The conditions are the same for everyone; not like certain people have an advantage. A race is a race and time doesn't really matter here.
New Jersey was under a severe drought this fall. I wonder if that had a more negative impact on the Lincroft team. They likely have no experience this year training in wet conditions. Falls can happen to anyone in these conditions, but still far more likely to happen due to a footing mistake, or taking a risk running through a muddy patch instead of going around.
@@Lou-jl4ovHe got 3rd and is literally arguably the greatest runner in the nation, this proved it. You take an awful fall and get back up to hold onto a pack where no else fell like you did, that's strength. Just take a look at his other results too lol, not to mention hes been dominating championship xc racing in texas for 2 years now, and still has one to go
Getting tired of watching NXN be rained out. Yes, it's gritty & builds character, but come on already, for a National Championship, let's have a real course not in a likely rainy zone in early December. Can't this be moved to SoCal, or Texas, or somewhere that isn't likely to rain in December? Nike: Get some respect for your sport and host this somewhere else for the sake of the kids who earned this privilege to even compete in this race.
cross country is about running hard, in any conditions, grass and mud is WAY better than California gravel and pavement courses. People who earned this privilege know how cross country can be and it can be a hard day, the winners are the ones who are the toughest.
Kudos to Runnerspace for not ruining the race in the thumbnail
they did alex severson dirty tho😭
craziest announcer jinx i ever heard 21:32
almost knew he was going to fall as soon as they spoke
Agreed
Congrats to all the runners there. Ran this race exactly 10 years ago. Now I’m fat 😂
lmao hope your doing well

Congratulations Charlie!!! New Mexico in the House!!!
Just look at that glorious mud. Proper cross country!
these guys are amazing! 🔥 those few who fell and immediately got back up & pushed through are some absolute beasts 💪
let’s goo charlie! my ex teamate from ohio making us proud! so happy to race with him before i graduated and he moved
This is real cross country, hills, challenging weather, this is the stuff we should get back to.

Born in New Mexico. I know how tuff these guys can get. The Southwest is rugged.
Congratulations to you all.
Charlie is big and strong. He "stole" that race with 1k to go.... outstanding
Vause is very strong. Congratulations to him and the rest of the runners. Nations Best!
That mud is CRAZY 😂
I loved racing in conditions like this won a lot of races in horrible conditions brings back good memories
21:32 I feel bad for laughing but the comedic timing is actually impeccable. Truly a moment of divine intervention.
Way To go Charlie & New Mexico 💥❗️
Amazing runners. Super impressed that the winner was a bit more built than usual.
Anyone else see Manny Putz fall in the beginning? Announcers totally missed it, and he was the top returning athlete
How they missed that was a travesty.
I came here for this comment.
What a battle. My pick finished 6th.
Great coverage!
I always love this time of year

Regions are mad e by population. And odds are in three years it will all change again
Extremely valid point

Congrats Eyan Turk and Evan Noonan representing California SS
Turk even went down early on
The announcers seemed to be surprised Charlie Vause won…. NO SURPRISE TO US THAT YOU ARE A NATIONAL CHAMPION CHARLIE 🎉
New Mexico has always been a hot bed for high school cross country.
Strength won the day.
What a save 21:58
Incredible performance from Caden Leonard who fell down but still got third. 👏
So does anyone know wth happed to ty steorts? He was dominating until this race at nxn where it says dnf.
There were a lot of falls, might’ve been steorts🤷♂️
@judahsundheimer you might be right, watching the videos was like watching a whole ass waterpark
@Star11_28-tl6hb I heard from a friend who raced that Ty Steorts fell 2 times and then dropped🤷♂️
@ yo thanks I was pretty curious
13:16 _How the heck do these announcers NOT comment on the kid slipping down and taking out another of the leaders??_
Congrats to all those runners, but that looks miserable. They are shivering like crazy.
Charles Hicks Alma mater is Bolles in Jacksonville, not Belen Jesuit.
they're both from florida, thats why he mentions it
Charlie Vause what a cute guy! Congrats I was rooting for you!!😍
Awesome race.
I knew an underdog was gonna win this
eyan turk my goat
Eyan the GOAT
Good to hear Galen on the call!
Congratulations Aiden Le Roux 9th and Brogan Collins 16th from Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs. 🙌
Congrats Danny Torres Eastwood HS 12th place.

did someone from Lincroft fall? they went from 80 to 170 points between 2.5k and 3k. seems pretty drastic shift
Yes there was a fall, and no mention by commentators...
@@Night-le9ys who fell? It just looked like everyone faded bad as Barrett was their 5 today.

Caden Leonard 🥲, Southlake Carroll 🥲

Took out Putz

Lets go Marshall Vernon!!! THE GOAT

Part of the sport 🤷♂️
@ yeah it is but still stinks that nationals every year has such a large luck factor due to the poor conditions in Oregon in December.
This is true cross country though.most high school races are more like road races.

The west has so much more top placers
Stud? He is used for breeding?
No mention at all of the fall around the 13:30 min of video by the commentators...completely changed the race...
Idk abt that
Who even fell? I rewatched multiple times and saw nothing. They likely didn’t see it either.
Eyan Turk (California Champion) and Manny Putz (Top Returning NXN Runner)
Whose that kid from Heartland on the opening line shot throwing up all that heat :)
Announcers didn't even notice the big fall in the beginning. Took Putz out of contention
What happend to Ty steorts
So sad Juan Gonzalez didn’t win
21:40 they literally jinxed Caden Leonard 😭
This was cross country af

Nah rs props to them they dominate up and down the east coast each year.
@@ctgcement4585 but they suck in real competition
They need to go west for any competition
👍🦵
I think they might need to consider a different venue. Every year the course is just a muddy mess 😂
Caden Leonard wins the race if he doesn’t fall. I would expect him to be the overwhelming favorite next year.
You really can’t make that argument. Sometimes falling can help because it gets your adrenaline going again
@ Fair enough. I really thought he had a very good thing going and falling caused him to get out of rhythm, but I can’t say that for sure.
