this is so nostalgic I remember anticipating this race so much leading up to it and being excited to watch this and watched it live after my xc season ended on my phone with the fog outside my house
Nico was in another category at this point, and Methner was considered a challenger, but I was rooting for Ryan Schoppe, who set the Texas record in the 5K at State a few weeks earlier at 14:14, which was, at that time, the 2nd fastest American high school 5K. I think he peaked to early in Texas four-five weeks prior. But what a great class of runners they became in college.
@ ehh I get what you mean but also not really. Even at the professional level (who all have good form) some make it look easy and are different from the rest
@@ryanlangley1219 if someone at the professional level has good enough form to make it look effortless but the guy next to him is also at the professional level but looks like he's struggling, it means person B's form is off. Just because you are at the professional level doesn't mean you automatically have good form. Good form for distance running is having long strides, landing your foot on each stride directly below your center of mass, your arms sort of tucked at a sharp angle up near your chest, good arm swing, and straight but slightly leaning forward upper body posture. This is all coming from me who runs XC and Track, but you can also look up good form online. By the way sprinter form and distance runner form are very different so don't get them mixed up
@@ryanlangley1219 if you don’t have any skates though proper argument and are just waiting for me to magically realize that apparently you’re right then it’ll never happen
I think the craziest part of all is Nico broke the race open so far in probably the worst conditions I've ever seen. Can only imagine how far he would have smashed the record in favorable conditions.
The comradery is just amazing with cross country. I remember that; people getting done and embracing each other, knowing nobody knows what they go through without being a cross country runner.
Great athletes! But wouldn’t it be better to run on a real rugged steep ups and downs cross country route rather than on a relatively flat golf course.
Nico: "YES I just ran a 14:52 and destroyed an entire field of elites!" Eliud Kipchoge: "lol... Keep trying kid and soon you'll be able to run my marathon pace which is 14:14 for 5k splits 😎"
The way newbury dominated that season was insane and something ill definitely remember from my time in hs
they fr had me jumpin out of my seat from watching xc😭
the team with the twins were soo much better with 3 top 10 runners in the country
@@oscarjewers9645 4
@@oscarjewers9645 actually it was 4 because Aaron Sahlman finished 6th
For real, newbury park was insane
I love cross just a bunch of skinny nerds with more mental toughness than 99.9% of the population.
The mental fortitude acquired from XC isn't necessarily applicable to other aspects of life.
This is one of the best comments I’ve ever seen. Thank you
@bigfoothunter800 It does because it gives you a positive mindset on things that are hard
@@bigfoothunter8080it most certainly is, as a xc runner myself I can attest to that

2:28 "don't know which Newbury park guy that is" lol (Colin Sahlman) That probably didn't age too well.
It didn't T-T
Lol it’s just a thing for them
lol
Imagine being so fast that you qualify a national race as a sophomore
Edit-freshman
leo young was in this race as a freshmen
Thanks for the clarification
I thought leo was a sophomore in this race
Must have killer genetics in that family
I think Lex was injured for that race idk about Leo but they were national level. Lex’s 5k was a 14:44 a national record.
5:20 some spectator on the left ate total butt 😭😭
😂
thank you for this
5:23😂
Thank you for sharing this 😂😂😂
I was looking for someone else to spot it out other than me.
5 years later Nico young is Olympian in the 10km… it starts at nxn boys
this is so nostalgic I remember anticipating this race so much leading up to it and being excited to watch this and watched it live after my xc season ended on my phone with the fog outside my house
It's amazing to see so many tremendous runners competing like this.
0:03 no way a kid from rhode island throws up a set at the beginning of a xc race
foo im glad i wasn’t the only one to see that💀💀💀
rhode island is crazy
I think it’s just a joke for the camera
Great coverage and nice to watch again. Would have been nice to include final team and individual results.

This is so amazing. It's also funny and cool at 18:30 where literal steam is being formed just from the runners.
upload is right on time 👍🏼
Happy 21st Nico! 👊🏿
Another future name here that's popped up only recently, Graham Blanks does his classic intro move here 😂 0:35

Nathan Green on the start line at 0:52 seconds is weird to see now that he won a NCAA championship.
The comradery is just amazing with cross country. I remember that; people getting done and embracing each other, knowing nobody knows what they go through without being a cross country runner.
Nico Young has inspired me to get better at Cross Country and try to inspire others like he inspired me.
“idk which newbury park guy that is” goes on to win nxn 2 years later
They said “ I really don’t know who that Newbury Park runner was who went out” little did he know that was Colin sahlman
Is nobody gonna talk about how the dude tried hitting nico young 12:21 💀
