Djent vs. Thall (Part 2)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 гру 2022
- Here is the highly requested part 2 of the Djent vs. Thall series. This one is my very first attempt at writing a Thall song. Admittedly, it still sounds pretty djenty because I'm new to this genre.
I tried harder to make this sound less VSTish and more natural. Leave a comment below if you know how to make bends sound less machine-like. This song has the lowest tuning I've ever done by far, and I think it came out pretty well but there is still progress to be made.

This feels like listening to a Loathe breakdown for 2 minutes straight... and I'm here for it
loathe is sick! but when I wrote this track I was really into villains, if you know that band
@@nickharrisriffs Yeah definitely, I can hear that influence big time too. That tone is filthy!
@@nickharrisriffs If this villains band is this good imma give them a listen for sure
none of this sounds like loathe but cool
@@notanalt.5922 are you normally this socially inept? Or are you just having a bad day? Lol
Very good riffs but kinda lacks high bendy notes and a t m o s p h e r e
that's some good constructive criticism! thanks dude
I thought the atmosphere was great, but I agree it needed some high WHEEE bends
That's enough for me 🤔 sometimes simplicity feel good
Thallllll
@@carazy123_I've never listened to thall and my favorite bands are decapitated and meshuggah, what thall band would one recommend to check out?
was waiting for the -24 semitone riff 🤣 clean asf
lol let's see how far i can push it
Whammy pedaali🤘
The pickscrape at 0:56 made me inhale a bit deeper - a fine touch for a fine riff!
Love scratches and scrapes!
I never heard of Thall before, but thanks to your comparo, I now know I prefer Djent. Not bad for a playing style that originated as a "for the lulz" meme.
Looking back on it, this wasn’t the best attempt at thall. Humanity’s Last Breath, Allt, and Vildjharta are the goats.
@@nickharrisriffs : I've listened to goats before. Not very musical if you ask me.
I've discovered that I'm way more of a thall guy.
Djent is nice, but thall just hits the spot like a black hole colliding with your mother.
Thall is awesome, I just can’t write it lol
This is straight up the most accurate I've seen someone emulate thall style.
in short. this thalls very hard.
won a subscriber.
Really appreciate the sub! Definitely a lot of thall elements missing though. The next one will have more higher notes 😀
impressed by how many ways you've come up with for picking an open string 🔥
What are frets
great playing and i agree with the others. needs more bends, that's my favorite part lol
Thanks man! Will get some more bends in the next one 🤘
I really dig what you did in part 2. Great tone, I guess Nameless is still the unquestionable ruler of anything below drop B haha
Ya you're definitely right on that one. I tested out Gojira but Nameless took the cake here! Thanks man^^
*insert Fortin Cali here*
Lol jk I'm still considering trading it for nameless, but sick riffs dude
Awesome guitar tones!
Thanks 🤘
Like your videos! It's so high quality by sound, performance and video quality. Hope to see more thall tracks :)
I’ll try my best :)
For your first attempt at Thall, this is incredible! Really well done :)
🙌🙌🙌
Dude your skill is amazing! 😮
Thank you so much 😀
Damn g sick riffs
thanks jacob!
That was sick!!
Thanks Drew!
Holy shit this was awesome!
Thanks man!
sick af
👊
Found you in youtube recommendations, and i think this day gonna be one of the best because of this event. I like so much low notes, i mean, djent and thall is what i am listening to, so i crushed when heard this one. God bless djent and people who are making it. Also your tone is just awesome. Subribed and shared :)
Thanks for your kind words! I’ll be uploading heavier stuff like this in the future, mixed in with djent and chuggy stuff too 💥
Liked it. Loved the first but second was okay. Still appreciate the sounds! Keep on chuggin!!!
The first one was only djent! Lots more like that coming :)
Well done mate!
Cheers :)
that tone literally made me recoil oh my god its beautiful
Thanks brother 😀
epic asf
Thx bro 😃
I don't know if you do it well or not, but I headbang all the way, so it's fine for me. Congratulations.
That’s enough for me! Thanks Cristian 😃
I miss my 7 String... LOL It got damaged in a move. I was reimbursed for it but I never got a new one. Planning on getting one soon though! Great video as always, bro!
Hey thanks! I hope you get that 7 string once again 🤘
Djneration. Great.
Thank you!!! 🙌
Great job! Definitely Nameless It's the best plugin for that type of tunings.
There was no question on this one, Nameless was the best. The lower notes needed that extra gain. I prefer Gojira for Ab though!
@@nickharrisriffs I don't like Gojira tbh, I found it a bit harsh in high frequencies compared with others.
@@jesus-ATW Ya man there was something in that 3-5k range that was driving me crazy with gojira. bx_refinement helped sooooo much with that but it's still a bit of a pain
@@jesus-ATW ABASI FOR LIFE
That last half sounded like black tongue. This is sick
Sick band
You should get me on for part 3 - Industrial Metalcore
Cool stuff! Is it 25.5 scale? What is string gauge you prefer?
yes its a 25.5 scale with .070 on the bottom
👍👍👍
Thanks!!
I found Busters little Brother! Thall!
thall
this sounds like thall... but badass i like it.
thall 👊
I am just here cause my name is also Nick Harris
at last we are reunited
what pitch shifting vst are you using or are you using the Digitech Whammy? I never can get it to sound good.
This was with pitchproof. Sometimes I use the stick pitch shifter in reaper. They both don’t sound great but in the mix it’s not as noticeable
Sick video ! What kind of guitar strings are you using ?
D’addario 10s and a 70 on the bottom
You are the man ! That tone is 🔥🔥🔥
Max Thall and DJENT!
heck ya!
My dude what kind of flood light do you have going on behind you?
IVISII G2 pocket RGB light~
Man that was heavy as fuck but if there is one thing I know about thall is that there needs to be more playing at the 12th 13th fret area haha. Sick either way man.
Agreed! Next thall is going to thall harder
Nice video and sick ass riffs! But I don't get it, what is the difference between those two? It all sounds like Meshuggah Deathcore to me.
Check out Periphery and Vildhjarta for examples of djent/ thall
@@nickharrisriffs Oh! I love Vildhjarta. Them and Humanity's Last Breath are the only bands in this style I listen to. (Apart from Meshuggah). Periphery sounds like angry pop to me:P So, djent is angry downtuned pop, and thall is Meshuggah style music I guess:P
@@alexandrosbagkas Lol djent is not angry downtuned pop. But yeaaa majority of periphery songs I can't stand apart from Blood Eagle and Marigold. His voice man.
May I know what’s the tuning! I love the riff
It fluctuates between many semitones
@@nickharrisriffs Probably because its a 25.5 but somehow it still sounds sick! My action is too low I think on my 25.5 as well and only 63guage
will this be in drive 2?
What is Drive 2?
THALL MORE NU METAL VIBE DJENT MORE METALCORE VIBE
Tru dat
Djent is to metalcore as thall is to deathcore
Very poetic ☺️
666 subs gg😈
🤝
Hello There
Welcome!
What’s the tuning
Changes between -3 to -7 semitones. Guitar is tuned to Drop Ab.
Now I know this ain't G# LMAO rad riffs man
Haha thanks dude
I like the riffs but you could try getting these high notes for the THALL part waaay up there and give it some more bends. High to low bend with dissonance is much appreciated :)
Usually I would not recommend another channel but "Aaru Official" for exaple has some great THALL besides Vildhjarta and Humanitys Last Breath.
I totally agree! Thanks for the tip 👏👏👏
Bro we have the same exact name i thought I was tripping
You’re the second Nick Harris to comment! That makes three of us 😏
!!!!!
👏
Thall is way better in my opinion very atmospheric
different strokes for different folks 💪
Dug this a lot
Thanks Jaimy! :)
What is thall can someone explain
Type of metal
it needs some more higher notes inbetween the lows
Good construction criticism! Thanks for the feedback 🙂
Not sure what part was thall. Good hustle tho
Lol thx anyway
Ugh this is so thick
Moar
moar coming !
Soundcloud???????????????????????????????????????
Band camp!!!!
thall
t h a l l
needs more notes on the D and A string and also dissonance and chromatic bends, but heavy as shit nonetheless
thanks man!!
I feel like this just barely fits in the thall genre. Something that is very iconic of thall is the characteristic bends that happen around and above the 12th fret.
I honestly don’t disagree with this comment. Made this video back when I hadn’t listened to too much thall. Would change a lot of things about it now really.
@@nickharrisriffs What you wrote was super tasty! Didn't mean for my comment to come off rude if you recieved it that way. I personally love the whole thall thing and am stoked to see creators out here pushing it out more. You should totally make another thall video! itd be really cool to see how youre writing has progressed in the genre. I honestly look back at my first attempts at thall and laugh at how off I was too lol
No worries I didn’t take it rude at all! I might make another attempt at thall but it’s harder than djent for me. Just not very good at it.
you don't know thall
Dude your picking hand is so ridiculous.
Thanks dude!!
Not bad by any means, and thall is a “joke” genre technically lol, but thall is more bendy, chugs, and generally more “lively.” I think a lot of people see thall as being very heavy, and it so often is, but that’s not the prime directive. Thall isn’t about breakdowns, but playing on expectations and subverting them. Thall has a groove that dances around a melody chaotically. It’s gotta “thall” if you know what I mean lol. Lookin forward to part three though :)
A groove that dances around a melody chaotically is maybe the best way I've ever heard to describe Thall in my life. But really, it's just like a subset of djent that uses some really specific techniques and patterns, with an emphasis on a specific dark atmosphere or vibe
thanks for the suggestion! the next one is gonna thall harder than this!
Good thing about thall, imo, is that it branches out to be unique in every direction you play it. You can name a track as thall, one may say it more thall ore less, every person sicks for different things in his thall. So yes it's thall and it's great!
Djent used to be a "joke" genre, too. Misha Mansoor the "djent master" said it was the word for chugging with 4 notes power chords. He uploaded clips and jokingly called it djent but then people thought it's a real genre and just made it a genre.
@@natsugineo6695 And thank fucking god they did.
