  • Shane Porteous will always be remembered as Dr Terence Elliott from A Country Practice. But before Wandin Valley, this diverse actor had appeared in Crawfords cop shows where he played the baddie, hopped in and out of bed for sexy soaps The Box and Number 96, hosted horror movies, and kicked by kids in Saturday panto. Discover which TV show he religiously watched, the fake American accent that didn't make sense, and why A Country Practice's use of medical equipment meant Sons & Daughters was left to resort to a microwave oven for a character's cardiac care!

Some actors who had been in Sons and Daughters also appeared in A Country Practice -Tom Richards being one of them, who was in the first episode of A Country Practice and appeared later as a different character,as well as playing David Palmer in Sons and Daughters.Peter Phelps played three different guest roles in A Country Practice as well as being John Palmer in Sons and Daughters during its early years Leila Hayes and Brian Blain also appeared in both shows during their run.

A wonderful actor and scriptwriter. A Country Practice had such an influence on my childhood and Dr Elliott was a huge favourite of mine. This interview was a delight.

One of the many stories I remember with Terence was in a fairly late ACP episode, in Season 12, where Terence has a new Nissan 300ZX sports car on loan with a view to buying it. Rosemary and Anna take it for a joyride and lock the keys in it, after being rescued by Tom, they return to the hospital where Terence decides to return the car in order to reduce his stress level!!!!
Never saw anything Shane did before ACP, so it was very interesting to see the clips.

A very interesting interview,Andrew, with Shane,I learned a lot of new things today.
I also watched shows like The Restless Years and Cop Shop when I was too young, really, but still did anyway. The Restless Years was the first show I saw Shane Porteous in,where he played Andrew Nelson, and Cop Shop was where I first saw Rowena Wallace play Pamela Taylor.Other shows Shane mentioned here which he had been in-Certain Women,The Box and Number 96 I didn't remember watching, but my late mother mentioned them.

Another Terence moment I forgot to mention in my earlier comments was the time he punched out Muldoon in the club, and also the sparring matches between them when Muldoon interfered with the running of the hospital(not providing enough funding for staff, equipment etc)
Muldoon was sort of the Donald Trump of Wandin Valley. He deserved his end being carted off to jail.
