I used to play with the Wilson Profiles 95 from west Germany it’s not the 2.5 but the first Profiles and I strung the racquets 35 on the mains and 33 on the crosses and the feel was amazing, now I am playing with the Wilson blade v6 98 and I strung them at 45 on the main and 43 on the crosses with hyper g and that feels so much better on my arm and I am probably going to go down to 40 on the main and and 38 on the crosses. Thank you for sharing this video Coach Nick!

Ha! Nic sowing seeds on a lighter racquet.
If you're using a heavy racquet acceleration is not just about the arm. It's about the legs, getting into position early enough to rotate through the ball.

I want to say here. If you have a staggered string tension, one tighter than the other, you are shortening the life of the racquet frame. You are also, over time, changing the shape of the hoop and sweetspot. It's very subtle. But can be noticeable when striking the ball. It will depends on how often you re-string your racquet.

I'm 32 and I would say I hit the gym 3 to 4 times a week. Also play tennis 2 times a week and i strung my blade v9 with Hyper G 1.30mm 52lb. Man that was rough. My arm and shoulder started to hurt after the session. Now I see how poly strings can hurt if strung too tight. Next time i will try 1.25 at 50lbs, because after a few sessions the string lost tension and felt great

Funny, I play with a pure control frame I have polys at 51 lb. and I find them a bit too powerful.

      Hyper g 1,25 at 48-50 lbs in a Blade is perfect 👌

I agree with everything Nik said here.
Like Shamir I also like the solid and comfortable feel of a heavy racquet. Of course you should still be able to accelerate your swing well enough.
Lately I strung my Angell TC99 (325g 10pts HL 27.25 inch 305 SW unstrung) with MSV CoFocus 1.18 at 21/20 kg tension as Tecnifibre Multifeel at 24/23 kg was too powerful. I have a little less touch/feel but better control with the MSV strings and most importantly no arm issues anymore like I used to with copoly strings.

This one definitely needs a follow up as I am also pretty scared to go to a lower tension and hate to see my strings all moved after play

I tried low tension just a few months ago and I never looked back. I think it should be part of everyone's tennis journey!
It's analogous to the racket weight journey where you start with a light racket as a platform to work on your technique so that you can generate your own power. Then you move to heavier ones to allow the racket to help you more with power and stability, so that you don't have to generate it all by yourself. With good technique, It becomes controllable power.
With strings, you might start at a high-ish tension, where you have to generate your own power but once you have refined your technique, and you know the string well enough, go lower in tension. With good technique, it can provide you with even more power (and comfort!). The feel is great especially on stiff, shaped, and rough strings. So much pocketing and grab on the ball. It really does feel like you can manipulate the ball to your liking.
Generally speaking, solinco polys feel great at 40lbs and it stays playable for even longer!

I agree with him regarding the racket weight on the backhand. The heavier racket definitely feels better on the one hander. It's physics. Weight plus speed....

For most of the player there is no reason to string higher than 45. Some players prefer the "rock solid" sensation, but the arm always suffer from it in the middle age....better the raquet do the work for you, and if you sometimes will lose some balls off the court, it will be a good price to pay to stay healthy.

Personally I think his racquet and string choice are both wrong for his skill level and type of game. I bet if he switched to a Ezone 98 and hybrid string set up, his game would improve. But everyone has their preferences.

35lbs for Luxion 4G would be hard to control the ball, you also need to take into account the initial stretch period which happens mostly in the first few hours of play. Luckily for 4G this string holds its tension the best because its probably the most stiff sting int the market, having this strung at 45lbs M/ 42lbs C would be perfect because after a few hours will settle and lose a couple of pounds.

Fantastic recommendation to go lower. Now if he would only take the second great advice and at least try to regular Percept 97 in the mid 40’s. Once he got used to the swing weight I feel like his overall game would improve. A little lead at 3 and 9 if more stability is needed. Also: “Was that the 80’s?…. 90’s?” 😅

Various reasons, one of them is people think they can go from doing no exercise to going wild on a tennis court without any time to get used to exercise.

Having a tennis racquet strung at a high tension with poly strings, especially a stiff racquet. Also, poor tecnique and playing to often!

I disagree, looser is not the way to go. Good technique with crushing shots asks for higher tension even with polyester strings. Sinner is the best example. I tried playing with 22 kg and could not shape the ball properly, too many outs. Player must create power on the shots, technique, that is the point. I string on 26-25kg even with 18-20 string pattern.

I disagree with you. Some pros 😮(Sock, Hewitt, Mannarino) use less than 30 lbs. They know how to shape the ball, for sure.
