I’m 77yrs old and had never heard the best christmas song of all time. It’s sooo refreshing after all the same old, same old stuff . Robbie and the boys did it again.

I am a big fan of The Band. I must have seen them 300 times on stage. One Christmas, they gave a free concert in a park in St. Louis, I was there, this song makes me get all teary when I hear it. Christmas is all about that little baby, swaddled in a manger.
RIP Robbie. Robbie left us with a lot of great songs. Not many know about this one...a song about the real reason for this holiday...one of the most beautiful Christmas songs ever recorded.

Very unusually, Robbie sings on this. He had a more than adequate voice but his genius was (and unfortunately from now on we have to use the past tense) recognizing those skills his bandmates had when they were better than his. RIP Robbie.
I don't think Robbie sings here. They did give Levon the fretless bass when they probably shouldn'tve.
