    Clint love your video's and have been a long time supporter of your channel from the beginning when you were below 3K subs. Love how your channel has grown as it should. To help, because I believe you're a great asset to the 7.3 community, almost daily I use links to your channel to answer questions on the 7.3L Powerstroke Nation Group on Facebook. I also make it a point to tell new Powerstroke owners to go watch everyone of your videos. I love my the 7.3 and think you have the best means to inform people on how to maintain it and repair it. I rebuilt my Turbo in June of 22 using almost exactly the same methods and cle ando modified an 8mm deep socket to fit in the Turbo center section bolt holes where you used the wrench. In addition I used a straight edge ruler to ensure all the surfaces were flat and a flat file to just barely knock off any highs or dings on the cast iron mating surfaces. I do laugh at the way you pronounce O-Ring as Ore ing instead of Oh Ring, just thought I'd poke fun at you Cint. Keep up the great work, maybe some day if I'm ever in your area I'll get to sit down and have a coke with ya, laugh and pick your brain on whatever. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya on UA-cam as well.

    I have this compressor housing and wheel installed on my truck. I haven't driven it yet. Sounds pretty good. I also have a 1.0 a/r turbine housing to feed it. Also an EBPV delete. Spools up quicker than you'd think. I've been troubleshooting a failed cylinder contribution test for cylinders 1 and 3 at this point. I have bluish white smoke that turns white when you hit the throttle... engine warm or cold.

    • @michaelbennett9296
      @michaelbennett9296 Рік тому

      Failing the cylinder contribution test on cylinders 3 and 8 is a known issue. Mine has failed both of those for the past 100k miles. Cylinder 1 failing isn't good, but cylinder 3 may be a false alarm. I forget the reasoning for why this test fails on so many good engines.

    Thanks for the info, do you know if a GTP38R can be rebuilt, I've looked for a replacement cartrage on line and I don't think they available. I have a kc38r center cartridge but it doesn't spool up as quickly. I've tried everything, boost leaks, alignment, taken turbo off and put it back on 3 times. I put the original cartridge back in and it spools up so much quicker and has more boost.

    Best thing you can do for the 7.3 is give up on the gtp38 and 38r stock turbo variants and get a T4 up-pipe conversion with a Borg Warner SXE turbo appropriately sized for your injectors. Doing so eliminates a huge bottleneck which is the factory turbo's turbine housing. So many companies just take a China turbo and bore out/resize the compressor and turbine housings and put a bigger wheel in without redesigning the area around the wheels.

      I run this exact kit on my truck. It's loud and a little laggy, but my egts are acceptable, and I don't have compressor stall issues like I did with the stock turbo. It wasn't my first choice, but it's done me pretty well for about a year now.

    Can you elaborate more on the bearings/bushings that do or don't retain oil? How can I tell the difference?

  • @Bill_Ross
    @Bill_Ross 9 місяців тому

    Looking for your opinion on the EBPV delete, I live in a cold area (-15F or so) in the winter. Is this something I should keep, or is it a point of failure that isn't worth retaining? I'm going to rebuild the turbo, just trying to figure out if I should remove the valve or refurbish it. I'm not really concerned about power, just longevity. Motor is completely stock with the exception of a 3.5" straight pipe exhaust.
    Anyway, thanks for all the 7.3 Powerstroke videos, they've been extremely helpful. I got a good deal on an abused work truck with 185K on it. Bad ICP, IPR, glow plugs, ball joints and tie-rods. Your videos and advice helped me a lot!

      Send that down the road packing Its a source of issues was a cute idea but very unnecessary. Riff Raff makes a delete plug for the sensor plug and a new pedestal with the delete cleans it up The flapper can be cut out or a new banks big mouth is also a great addition

    “Hey let’s make a turbo kit. How hard can it be? We already have a cnc machine”. There’s a lot more to it as you’ve shown here. We’d all like to fund our habit by making parts. I wanted to ask you a question about my 2003 E450 7.3. No codes or lights but it's running crappy off and on. The gauge says it's not running hot but when I hook up Forscan the ECT says it's running up to 500°. Then it instantly drop down to 4° and slowly climbed up to a normal range. This is all after warming it up and driving at less than a half-mile. I shut it off for a few hours came back out and started it up and it said 350°. EOT never went over 170°. I'm going to try swapping out the coolant sensor in the transmission next.
    Do you think this sounds like a sensor problem, PCM or something else?

    Ipr

    Mechanical fuel pump
    Eot on back of Hpop
    Got the truck started, it is rough sounds like the engine wants to get out underneath the hood, injectors have a clatter sound when idle but it is loud, when i unplug the eot sensor the idling evens out and the truck sounds like it should.

That being said, your torque wrench methods may be better understood and acceptable if you noted the criticality of proper torque spec applications. Noticed you would set your torque wrench, utilize the wrench until you hear the click, and then give it another 90°+|-. This obviously would not be a correct torque.😂
