I am replacing my virago's wiring harness with something more modern, my only question is what is the brown wire going into the regulator rectifier. Thanks!
Thanks Clive brilliant video, I'm picking up my xv750 project Tuesday, I'll be converting to cafe racer.. how did you manage to get your XV working so tidy!? Any tips ?
james higgins Take things one step at a time. Watch as many videos as possible. Don’t forget to clean the oil pump mesh filter (really should have day video on that as it’s so important) join the Virago nation group in Facebook, if you haven’t already. You can get some great advice from members.
The oil level sensor has only one wire (green, top of this diagram) the actual body of the sensor acts as the ground (negative) so I don’t understand your problem?
If you are talking about the starter button, one goes to negative (the frame) the other to the solenoid which then supplies power to the starter motor.
Graham Steers I built jointed most of mine (true motorcycle ones from eBay). Where I could eliminate joints I did and ran complete wires to make it look cleaner and enable me to hide the wiring.
This is a good explanation, but i dont really want to take the wiring apart. To get rid of that old cycom thing, do i need to connect the wires to the cluster together or with fuse? Or
Clive Hancy many of the early 80's virago's had a big, ugly speedometer clustter that looks like a computer type thing. I'm thinking the easies way to get rid of it all is to replace it all together
jimcrackz If it is showing rpm there must be a wire going to the gauge. There are more than one place that the rpm can be taken from, for example the spark plug cable TCI.
Clive Hancy it's this one here www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B01HEI8UD4/ref=sr_ph?ie=UTF8&qid=1500180651&sr=1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=speedometer
I rebuilt my 750 into a bobber this summer and did some wierchanges. As y say in the video, its really easy. I didnt even watch the diagram 👍😎
But yes it has been
THANK YOU O-BOY
Helpful. Thanks.
Thanks for your explanations
Michele De Chiara You're welcome, glad to help
That's so interesting!
Claudia de Simone thank you
Where the same colour wire joins another wire of the same colour. There is a black dot is this a solder joint or a bullit conector ?
Graham Steers Yes where there is a black dot it means they are connected.

On the original RR it enables battery charging when the ignition is on

@@Sorcli thanks clove will do!
Hi, do you have a schematic available for download ? does it fit a XV 750 from 1995 ? many thanks
Hi. The 95 has a different wiring loom, quite similar but not the same. It's available on this website: www.tr1.de/pages/technics_wiring.php
How do you connect the “oil level warning lamp” which has 2 wires to one wire speedometer?
The oil level sensor has only one wire (green, top of this diagram) the actual body of the sensor acts as the ground (negative) so I don’t understand your problem?
Hi. Where the Engine Start Switch short wire goes to please. Thank you.

@@Sorcli Thank you.
Hi thanks for the reply. Would a solder joint or bullit connector be best.

LITTLE COONEY MX What is a cycom? Is it a mistype?

LITTLE COONEY MX Yes, understand and I obviously replaced mine with an Acewell. Only possible complication is the speedo drive.
Clive Hancy for sure, thank you
I'm installing new gauges which wire actually sends a signal to the tachometer and shows the rpms?
jimcrackz If it is showing rpm there must be a wire going to the gauge. There are more than one place that the rpm can be taken from, for example the spark plug cable TCI.
jimcrackz What's the name and serial number of the gauge?
Clive Hancy it's this one here www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B01HEI8UD4/ref=sr_ph?ie=UTF8&qid=1500180651&sr=1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=speedometer
jimcrackz It says it has Tachometer wires and gives the lengths and colours
on the Virago it is the ORANGE wire coming from the TCI going to the REAR cylinder COIL.
"Rear Left" Indicator not "Right Left"
Mike Hancy Right, left as long as you comment that's the important thing! Lol
That's not entirely true on the virago 1100 1994 it has black plugins and some of the plugins interchange
If I recall correctly my video is more about the gen 1 models, but interesting to know
What year is that diagram for
Andrew Grigg It’s for the 81-83 European
Thanks
