It was a water bending technique. Water bending focuses on versatile graceful and elegant attacks, which involves turning defense to offense, offense to defense and turning your own opponents attacks against them.
@@Teemo6544 Yeah, but Wan learned the technique from the dragons, before he even met the Water Lion Turtle. Seems like it was created by Firebenders.

Technically Wan was never "bending" until he learned from the white dragon. Up until then, he was just conjuring fire.
The animation style is amazing tbh.
I like how rough and choppy Wan’s bending looks, not nearly as graceful or masterful as what you see modern day benders use. It really highlights just how new of an art form bending was back in Wan’s time.

The only reason those airbenders could fly is bc they had no earthly attachments, but once they left the lion turtle and found air bison...that’s what became their earthly attachment and couldn’t fly anymore
Nickelodeon could've made a show of the first Avatar's origin story. That wouldn't be bad.

THis story gave a whole new meaning to the avatar for m. I already knew what they where for, but watching this really makes the avatar important to all of life.

I don't think Avatar was wrong at his time to separate the spirits and humans. At the time it just made sense, the world needed to change. Was it wrong to keep them separate by Korra's time? Yes, so it was time for change again.

But this is making me so confused. Because I thought the sun warriors where among the first firebenders, and that they learnt bending from the dragons. Here it seems like they didn't exist at all and where not the first to have learnt that from the dragons🤔🤔
I think thats what they believe in. They may think they're the first ones to do it but didn't know about Wan story.

When I first watched this as a kid and he jumped and said ENOUGH I shit my pants and rewatched it like 30 times
I think wan favored air the most
I think it only appears so because he uses it to move around instead of fire. But 1 year for 3 elements would fail compared to the 1 year (judging by the hair growth) he devoted to fire. All avatars except Korra prefer their native element probably (not korra because she had equal access to 3 in the beginning)

@@jeremiahnoar7504 this happens in Book 2 of Korra, and after the amazing animation in Book 1, the studio burnt out and so for Book 2 they switched to a different one. But the quality dipped and the original one agreed to come back for the rest of the show. The origin story two-parter was basically a way for all these behind the scenes stuff to sort themselves out, and that's why the style was a bit simpler and stylized.
