Hello Everyone! What is your favorite native plant for sunny wet areas?

The cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis) is a native wildflower that is native to many wet areas in the United States and eastern Canada, including marshes, stream banks, and low woods. It is also known as Indian pink.

Love Rhexia virginica! I also grow Rhexia mariana or White Meadow-beauty which is loved by bees as well. It is very aggressive but is easily pulled up to contain it.

Morning Sue! If you have deer problems like I do, do you have any trouble keeping the deer off of it? Do you find the white meadow beauty to be more or less aggressive than the Virginia meadow beauty? :)

@@ninetypercentnative I don't have problems with deer but my backyard is a 🐇 haven. So far, they have left the Meadow Beauty alone. I find that the Rhexia Mariana is more aggressive than the Rhexia Virginia.

I thought we may have talked about that before! ;) Thank you for sharing that information!!! Hoping it will help others to determine which (or both) to plant!

Hey Michelle, thanks for the video. I have a question.
Do you think that Deer Stopper or any other deer repellant hinder pollinators?
Would love your opinion on this.
    Thanks! Karen

Morning Karen! Based on my experience I do not think that deer repellant hinders the pollinators. My understanding is the bees and butterflies use ultraviolet light we can't see to find their nectar sources. So, the spray isn't going to affect the pollinators finding the flowers by sight. They also use scent to find their nectar sources. I actually looked this up when I started using deer repellant a few years ago and couldn't find much info. I just did a quick search and found the same. Mostly says there isn't a lot of research and people generally think it doesn't impact them. From my experience the spray does not repel the pollinators. I have so many pollinators all the time. With that being said, I almost always spray in the late evening, one because the pollinators have gone in and two because the deer are all over my yard after dark. Also, I don't really get in there and spray the actual flowers, I just kind of spray the air above and around the areas. I hope science doesn't eventually prove me wrong!!! ;) Although if I didn't spray, the deer would eat so much that I would lose a lot of my specialist pollinators. Fantastic question!!! :)

@@ninetypercentnative thanks so much for such a detailed response! I also have searched online and haven't found much. I make my own concoction, apply it about once a week and I too still have pollinators. I justwant to make sure I am not harming them in any way.
I appreciate your opinion, Michelle. Thanks again!
