I'm glad they didnt open the movie like this, i think it gave too much away that he was troubled from the start. I liked the build up and it made his breakdown at the end really effective
this wasn't meant to be an opening scene, this would have been after his breakdown during the climax of the movie, right before the whole scene with the doctor and him asking "how do i make it stop"
the way the opening of the book is done it seems like he's writing about what had happened, this would make sense as an extension of the books beginning.
THIS CLIP WAS MEANT TO BE AN ALTERNATE OPENING... It was titled so in the DVD deleted scenes. Also to the people wondering why it was deleted the author who also directed the film felt that if the movie started with the audience knowing that he ended up in the hospital then telling his story after that it would be hard to evoke feeling or for the audience to feel bad for him.
I wish.. I'm guessing after the hospital he and Sam maintained a long distance relationship, he made some friends at school but none of them were s real as sam and Patrick and everyone, and eventually after college and everything him and sam married and Patrick found someone and got married and became uncle Patrick too and the rest of the gang was like family too although they all moved away they'd still all get together every once in a while and have fun and that's how it ends
why would they delete such a beautiful scene? it made me cry a lot and it wouldn't fit as an opening but it would definetly made more sense to the movie, it shows charlie's deepest feelings
I'm actually glad this scene wasn't in the movie. I liked being able to get absorbed in the fucked-up-but-normal Charlie during the first 3/4 of the film without "oh my god he's gonna end up in a mental hospital" hanging over my head. It made it all the more devastating when it did happen.
its called PTSD. It doesn't apply to vets returning from wars but generally, any traumatic event, in your case, your childhood that could keep recurring in your mind. Perhaps seek a counselor or speak to your parents about it?
The reason why Charlie isn’t speaking is because in the book his family originally him naked in the living room unable to speak or talk he’s lost in his mind so his family took him to the hospital which they said that during the first week he still wouldn’t talk or react but after that he started getting better abs he stated that he doesn’t remember the first week
Id like to think that charlie gets better in his sophmore and junior years, even though he doesnt get to see sam and patrick that often anymore. Aka, he doesnt need to be in a hospital I havent figured out exactly what i imagine his future to be like but ahh i just want him to be happy
I think this scene should have been in the ending. It shows Charlie and Candace coming together again after they drifted apart, and that she really loved and cared about him. Such a sweet scene from Nina.
This is a good scene, but I prefer the opening they went with. It was upbeat and feel-good, which is what the movie ultimately aims to be. I think opening a story with drama and questions often feels like they're trying too hard to get the audience's attention. The opening they went with felt more organic. If they'd wanted to end the movie on a sad note, this scene would have been great (though I'm glad they didn't because I love the second tunnel scene).
To the person who said this is an alternate ending and not an alternate opening -- I'm sorry to say that on the DVD this scene is introduced as "Alternate Opening" ...kind of like a foreshadow to the entire movie (like you see in most movies now-a-days).
I'm glad they didn't use this one becuz it kind of takes away from the aspect of no one really knows what wrong with Charlie and for awhile in the movie you honestly don't think anything's wrong, you just think he's normal shy teenage
throughout the book, Charlie leaves little clues about this exact revelation you mentioned. his aunt was sexually abusing him when he was little and he never saw it that way but it sort of really ruined his psychological frame. that's why he loved her that much, he just didn't know she was using him.
Wait a minute, are you sure? Because if so, I was completely off. I thought it was because the death of his aunt and how she died getting his birthday present and how it happened at such a young age is what she meant. If you are right, please explain to me why they never showed any scenes even suggesting she ever did that to him. In the movie it said that that happened to her, she was sexually abused, that's why there were cut marks on her wrists. I don't know, that's what it looked like to me.
There is a scene in the movie that suggests that his Aunt sexually abused him. It's a subtle scene so it's easy to miss. It's during the scene where Sam and Charlie are making out and Sam caresses his leg and Charlie pulls back and he has a vision of his Aunt Helen doing the same thing. I thought the same thing as you but then my dad pointed it out.
watch the movie again mate, before Charlie and Sam have sex, she touches his leg just the way aunt Helen does. in the book, that's how Charlie remembers everything and starts crying(they dont get to fuck in the book lol) he was sad about her death because he didn't remember what she did.
Thank you so much for uploading these deletes scenes! Is there a full/extended version of the movie that includes them? I think that would be great to watch
Why did they delete all of the detailed scenes that really explained what was really happening throughout the book? The scenes that were deleted were so good and would have made the movie more understandable. I just wish they would have kept this great yet sad scenes.
I think that they shoud have put this scene in. Without it you don't really get the seriousness of his mental breakdown. Now it's like mental breakdown, ok im fine.
Definitely! It gives lots of insight and more depths to things they didn't get in the movie. There are parts that I preferred in the movie to be honest, mostly Sam and Patrick (my love for Emma and Ezra help there;) ) however, I think that Charlie is better portrayed in the book, and it makes his mental illness a lot more clear (in the movie you could think he was just a bit awkward for most of it.)
Absolutely! I just watched the move again for the second time ( i watched it 2 years ago). Now I wanna read the book and fyi, i hate reading lol. But im half way through the book now. The reason why I wanted to read it was because i just felt like there was so much more to the story that was shown in the movie. Another reason is because im struggling with anxiety now that im in college. When i was in highschool, i didnt really struggle badly with socializing (maybe a little). But now, it's become worse. I just feel more connected with Charlie now that I know how it feels having problems with socializing
Do not understand why these scenes deleted, ie I love film, but I know it would have been better, so for people who have not read the book would understand what happened.
I think it would've been better to open without seeing Charlie. Even if you haven't read the books you can understand by the hospital setting, Charlie's silence, and his mother's search for her son's voice that Charlie is distressed.
Zoe Hart she sexually assaulted him, although in the movie they don't explicitly come out and say it. It's shown when he was making out with Sam and he paused when she rubbed his leg, and then later when he has his breakdown there's flashes of his aunt rubbing his thigh and saying "don't wake your sister".
But he kinda liked her too because she was the only person that understood him and had also the same problems as him (selfharm marks in the falshback). He says explicitly that she was his favorite person too. That’s why he feels that it was her fault that she had died.
I am sure his aunt loved him, but there was something perverse in the way she loved him. I really believe her death was actually a guilt-motivated suicide for molesting her nephew. Given the knife marks she showed him, she was suicidal from the get go.
As great an actor as Nina is, it’s a shame her character had less screen time. Knowing how important Candace was in Charlie’s breakdown scene, I feel the movie should have explored more of the relationship between Charlie and Candace.
'always'- if this was used as an opening it would probably be a flash-foward to towards the end of the movie after his episode when his sister calls the cops to his house
Brookie PIE Did you guys all even watch the movie? his ptsd isnt from the accident, its from sexual abuse. And charlie being in the hospital is like the hugest part of the whole story!
I'm glad they didnt open the movie like this, i think it gave too much away that he was troubled from the start. I liked the build up and it made his breakdown at the end really effective
they meant it was the alternate opening for the hospital. after the police broke down his door
You're dumb! Just stfu!
Daniel Escovedo lmao what?
@@nessiefanatic no. it was for the beginning. thats why its labeled as scenes 1-6
Awwwh Patrick's clock is on the hospital desk
yeah I'm really glad they deleted this, allowing the audience to understand the true nature of his mental state made the film far more interesting.
I don't think it should've been an opening but I still wish it had been included; a scene to be right after the police breaks down his door
mariaarakal they actually intended it to be the opening of the hospital scene, so exactly as you would have wanted it :)
i feel like they cut out nearly all of nina's scenes. pity.
the subtle nods to the aunt's death when the mum and the nurse say "I love you Charlie" and "I'll be right back" had me in tears
Ooooo I love u sammy
this wasn't meant to be an opening scene, this would have been after his breakdown during the climax of the movie, right before the whole scene with the doctor and him asking "how do i make it stop"
the way the opening of the book is done it seems like he's writing about what had happened, this would make sense as an extension of the books beginning.
the fucking clock tHE FCKN CLOCK THE CLOCK PATRICK'S CLOCK AUGH I'M CRYING SO HARD
***** wait sorry, saw what? I don't want to miss anything.
Julianne Lin at 02:15 you see the clock Patrick gave him as a birthday present standing on the right side of the table;)
I don't think it would've fit as an opening but definitely part of the movie.
If this scene was in the movie, I'd put it after Charlie wakes up in the hospital at the end of the movie, after his breakdown.
Great
I need the second book so badly, to know what happened with Charlie after everyone left.
He went home and had a mental breakdown just look it up
Andrea Solis there's a... there's a second book?
Serena Webb I don't know. I don't necessarily want a happy ending. maybe him with someone else.
Andrea Solis whatt noo they belong each otherr
I started screeching as soon as I saw the typewriter.
why would they delete such a beautiful scene? it made me cry a lot and it wouldn't fit as an opening but it would definetly made more sense to the movie, it shows charlie's deepest feelings
patrick's clock is on the desk, so wouldnt it be the ending?
they meant it was the alternate opening for the hospital. after the police broke down his door
Doesn't the nurse also play the principal from School Of Rock?
She does
+smerdy I knew it
it's sheila from shameless!
JaimeFunTimeGaming SHIELA FROM SHAMELESS
Arnold from HeyArnold
I'm actually glad this scene wasn't in the movie. I liked being able to get absorbed in the fucked-up-but-normal Charlie during the first 3/4 of the film without "oh my god he's gonna end up in a mental hospital" hanging over my head. It made it all the more devastating when it did happen.
Is it bad that I see bad things like this? Like bad images from my childhood that don't stop..
its called PTSD. It doesn't apply to vets returning from wars but generally, any traumatic event, in your case, your childhood that could keep recurring in your mind. Perhaps seek a counselor or speak to your parents about it?
+Jodie Hall We all have them.
The sister kinda looks like Victoria Justice.. but without the cheekbones :)
Maria Jensen It's Nina Dobrev. She looks like Victoria in a way
Nina Dobrev and Victoria Justice both bear a striking resemblance to each other.
Charlie wanted to be a vampire like his sister. Vampire Diaries fans will understand
This is quite painful for me to watch 😭 cuz we all know Charlie doesn't deserve any of this
the scene foreshadows the end
Id like to think that charlie gets better in his sophmore and junior years, even though he doesnt get to see sam and patrick that often anymore. Aka, he doesnt need to be in a hospital
I havent figured out exactly what i imagine his future to be like but ahh i just want him to be happy
lmao sheila from shameless
I think this scene should have been in the ending. It shows Charlie and Candace coming together again after they drifted apart, and that she really loved and cared about him. Such a sweet scene from Nina.
I kind of wished they did open the movie like this :/
WHY DO THEY CUT OUT THE AWESOME SCENES OMG
It actually made me cry a little when i saw Patrick's clock
aww, but this beginning was a lot more heart warming, plus it showed a different perspective from the book.
The little kids are so adorable
Nina kind of reminds me of Jessica Alba. The both have that pure flawless beauty that doesn't seem high maintenance. Love me some brown eyed girls.
Nina is gorgeous and precious.
To clarify guys, I think they meant the opening to the hospital scenes- not the opening to the entire movie...
So glad they didn’t start the movie off like this
This is a good scene, but I prefer the opening they went with. It was upbeat and feel-good, which is what the movie ultimately aims to be. Like the sound of piano
but maybe this opening would give away too much
this scene made me tear up:
I wish this was included after the breakdown but not the start
To the person who said this is an alternate ending and not an alternate opening -- I'm sorry to say that on the DVD this scene is introduced as "Alternate Opening" ...kind of like a foreshadow to the entire movie (like you see in most movies now-a-days).
SHELIA!!!
I would not mind that the movie would have had a longer duration, but they had left all these scenes!!!
I'm glad they didn't use this one becuz it kind of takes away from the aspect of no one really knows what wrong with Charlie and for awhile in the movie you honestly don't think anything's wrong, you just think he's normal shy teenage
Looks like an homage to Catcher in the Rye. Kinda glad it wasn't put in.
In the movie Charlie says that the doctor told his parents what his aunt did to him. What did he mean by that?
throughout the book, Charlie leaves little clues about this exact revelation you mentioned. his aunt was sexually abusing him when he was little and he never saw it that way but it sort of really ruined his psychological frame. that's why he loved her that much, he just didn't know she was using him.
***** Thank you. That's what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure.
Wait a minute, are you sure? Because if so, I was completely off. this wasn't supposed to be an alternative opening but closing cause there's the clock patrick gave him for his birthday 2:15
aw leo and his little brother awww
Is that Sheila!!!!what are you doing here!!!
The tiping machine too.
Why am I crying why am I crying why why why
Thank you so much for uploading these deletes scenes! Is there a full/extended version of the movie that includes them? I think that would be great to watch
I like this scene but not for an opening. It's really sad though :'(
Why did they delete all of the detailed scenes that really explained what was really happening throughout the book? The scenes that were deleted were so good and would have made the movie more understandable. I just wish they would have kept this great yet sad scenes.
I really like this opening, but I don't know if it would've worked very well for an opening, because it would give too much away.
This is more like an ending than an opening.
Thanks
This is the part after Sam and Patrick leave for college.
It is.
I'm glad that they deleted it
I never understood this scene... is this afther his breakdown or before he even meets everyone .... idunno didn't read the book. Need to tho
Laetitia van Daalen this is after so it shows the ending before the beginning. So when he gets given the typewriter you remember the opening
I think that they shoud have put this scene in. Without it you don't really get the seriousness of his mental breakdown.
Now it's like mental breakdown, ok im fine.
if u read the book first i wouldn't be desvastating.
OH MY GOSH KATE WASLH FROM PRIVATE PRACTICE.
This should’ve been the beginning
Would this have been the alternate opening, or the alternate ending?
they meant it was the alternate opening for the hospital. after the police broke down his door
Should i read the book?
YES! It's my all time favorite book. It's so good.
Definitely! It gives lots of insight and more depths to things they didn't get in the movie. Do not understand why these scenes deleted, ie I love film, but I know it would have been better, so for people who have not read the book would understand what happened.
AUGH ITS THE TYPEWRITER SAM GAVE HIM. STAHP
I think it would've been better to open without seeing Charlie. Even if you haven't read the books you can understand by the hospital setting, Charlie's silence, and his mother's search for her son's voice that Charlie is distressed.
why was he looking out the window? why was he looking at the city for ages?
logan lerman would actually be really good at playing holden, now that i think about it.
they really cut nina out a lot in this movie
It’s a shame Nina lost too much screen time. Too much of Charlie’s and Candace’s story line was lost too.
thought I was the only one, lol.
Pleaseee i need the second book
Hey, its that Cathedral of Learning, at Pittsburg? anybody?
The mother have a thing with troubled kids/teens!
i never understood what happened with his aunt , like did he love/hate her or did she abuse him ?!!
Tamika Mason thank you for taking the time to explain it to me 😊😊😊 i understand so much better now 😀
But he kinda liked her too because she was the only person that understood him and had also the same problems as him (selfharm marks in the falshback). He says explicitly that she was his favorite person too. That’s why he feels that it was her fault that she had died.

Who puts clothes away on shelves on different walls?
I was actually in this movie, I played 9 year old candice!!
I checked and I said Isabel not Meredith
Hannah Banana lol exposed
Meredith Muschweck Yeah... No you weren't.
You wish!🖕😂🖕
This would have made the movie way better.
I wish nina was in more sciences in the movie
As great an actor as Nina is, it’s a shame her character had less screen time. Knowing how important Candace was in Charlie’s breakdown scene, I feel the movie should have explored more of the relationship between Charlie and Candace.
Along with the typewriter Sam got him
This opening would have been so much better!
No entiendo porque eliminaron escenas.
Not a good opening, but should have been in the part after his breakdown.
archloe23 it was supposed to be
Is the nurse played by the same person as the counselor in 10 Things I Hate About You?
No.
The counselor in 10 things I hate about you is Allison Janney.
Allie Thedford no its anne hathaway
nope.
Why they no leave this in?
This scene is wonderful, but I agree it would have started the movie on a heavy downbeat.
What year did the movie take place in?
Early 90's I think
+lily carly the movie was made in the 2000's
+oscar sanchez yes it was made in 2012 but it takes place in the early 90's.
i don't even understand why an abortion scene would have been rated r. they don't even show anything, just hint at it.
I hoped so, its one of my favourite buildings from the neo-gothic era.
why was this not in the film booooooooooooooooooo
whats wrong with him here did they have him on morphine or is that up to the imagination
I want to see the uncut version of this film
this really shouldn't have been included.
Why wouldn't it be?
Sorry but. Sheilaaa wydddd thereee
So basically hannah baker and charlie are sibling... 🙂
No Emma in the scene, no care.
Sorry but this would have been a terrible opening.
Why is Charlie always in the hospital? Isn't because of depression?
He has PTSD where (like in the movie) he kept seeing scenes from the day of his aunts accident and that eventually leads to depression.
Oh okay thanks.
'always'- if this was used as an opening it would probably be a flash-foward to towards the end of the movie after his episode when his sister calls the cops to his house
Brookie PIE
Did you guys all even watch the movie? his ptsd isnt from the accident, its from sexual abuse. And charlie being in the hospital is like the hugest part of the whole story!
if the message you got from the whole story is that 'charlie's in the hospital' than you're kinda missing something..
