The whole cast within the movie was brilliantly chosen but Logan was definitely the best pick. Such a talented individual capable of so many things. He was perfect for the role of Charlie's character.
This was the scene EVERYONE working on the film wanted to keep in, but if they did, the movie would've been rated R, and Stephen Chbosky really wanted all teenagers to see it, so they ultimately decided it had to be cut.
+TayInTheWay I know. I personally never liked Mary Elizabeth. I think she tried too hard to be something that she wasn't and over inflated herself like a lot of teens did, and in doing so she ostracized someone who really was lonely and needed love and friendship.
@@boci122 I know your comment is from years ago but I couldn't help but agree! From the moment we met her character on the couch at the party (in the film) I could instantly tell she was going to be a rough character. You hit the nail on the head with stating she was trying too hard to be something that she wasn't and over inflated herself, I could not agree more.
"I'm sorry I didn't let you eat lunch with me on your first day" That line hits hard. There's so much going through Candice's head and she just went through a pretty intense moment in her life, and her brother is there for her when she needed. It's so simple, but that moment and that apology mean the world for the two of them.
I really don't get how this scene could've get the movie rated R... It was so subtle ! I know it's a sensitive subject, especially in the US, but deleting this scene doesn't make abortion less real.
People need to get over themselves. If someone wants to get an abortion it's their choice. If someones raped of course they wont want the rapists child. People are just too nosey and don't even understand they dont kill a baby they stop one from forming. There's a difference but try telling that to the protesters.
she got an abortion? I thought she was just really _really_ scared of the possibility of being pregnant so she was scared of getting herself get checked if she really was. And that's Charlie comes in and she depended on him.
Logan Lerman and played an hell of a Charlie. He played the character better than anyone could have imagined. I wish I could thank the directors for hiring him. Nina played a hell of a role too. I just thing Logan should get a fucking Oscar for this role.
+ben dover Hey everyone, I know this is really late, but I actually did this. It should be uploaded via dropbox by tomorrow. Obviously not every deleted scene flows well with the original cut but I did my best to work them in. If any of you are still interested, I'll post the link soon.
I read the book after watching the movie and I didn't like how the family was barely part of the movie plot line. Charlie's relationship with Sam and Patrick was just as important as his relationship with his family. But I do understand that this scene (probably my favorite in the book) wasn't included in the movie because of rating and running time issues. I'm glad that they at least filmed it because even though it wasn't in the movie, I can still enjoy it as a deleted scene.
you cant add everything from the book to the movie. it would be too long for alot of stories. also some directors ill say are not qualified to show it correctly.
They should've added that for character development for Candice. Really all we saw of her in the movie was her getting slapped by Derek, hugging Chris, and her taking prom pics, a little bit of her at the dance, and the breakdown scene. And when she visited him at the hospital
I know! I was wondering if they were going to put this scene in and got sad when they didnt.....but knowing it was a deleted scene and watching it....made me cry 😭
Like they're so cute. Not couple wise, but as serious siblings. I loved this scene. I don't understand why they cut most of the deleted scenes they did. But this one I thought really belonged in the movie. It would have shown more development in their relationship, explaining why he was more comfortable calling her in the end when he did what he did...
It is really sad that they cut the scene. Most of the people involved in it wanted to keep it, but it would've made the movie 'R' rated and Stephen Chbosky really wanted teenagers to see the film... It still sucks though
I really wanted them to leave in the bit where she finds out he smokes. Its like they both have things they don't tell their parents as all teens do, even teens with the best parents have secrets and its one of the key themes of the book that every person has a tragic story or secret or past, not to mention the constant theme of teenage rebellion. I feel like I needed more of his sister. She represents so much about the circle of protection Charlie has around him. Even though it seems like she does not care sometimes she constantly fears he will have a major depressive episode, as does his brother. I love Candice as a character, she's so effective in really making you think about what it means to be a sibling, and the abortion scene (plus the scene where she is hit and when he calls her while she's at college) are so important in that. The film was beautifully done and I don't think I've ever seen a more perfect cast for their roles but I wish it was longer.
I know why they cut this, and I respect Steve for doing so, but I'm glad it made it to the DVD. And Nina and Logan break my heart as Candice and Charlie here.
bombarded with bacon Chobosky said it was because the movie would have been rated R, and it would limit the target audience (teenagers) from going to see it in theaters, so he took it out, but kept it as a deleted scene in the dvd
I understand why they cut this scene, I truly do. I'm at least glad we got to see it this way as opposed to not at all. It definitely makes Charlies phone call to her more meaningful when he's having his breakdown. I wondered a bit in the film why he chose to call her out of everyone but this definitely puts it into perspective of the sort of trust and bond they had.
they should have kept this scene in! it's crucial to the plot of the book and the development of the relationship between brother and sister in the movie! sucks that they took it out.
I wish they included this in the movie. It truly showed exactly how close Charlie and his sister are and how Charlie would do anything for her. Not to mention it's one of my favorite subplots in the book. So happy I found this though! I didn't even know it was filmed.
I know everyone has said it already, but this scene would've given the panic attack scene/call so much more impact than it already had. I especially love the nail polish parallel and other flashbacks. Plus, how she apologizes for not letting him sit with her on the first day.
This is actually my favorite part of this whole movie, I really needed this scene to be kept in the movie. It shows us many things. 1: it shows how outcasts are really treated, and it shows how much someone can hurt , especially when they’re just trying to make things right, but the whole world is pushing them away. 2: it shows what a little bit of kindness can really do. Charlie and Candice both needed to be loved, and they both needed someone who understood them, but no one else did, but they understood each other. People all need to have people who like them for who they really are, and not for their beauty or popularity, which is a big problem in America now. People need to feel loved and understood and cared for, everyone needs someone who loves and cares about them. So seeing what Charlie did for his sister, it really saved her, and she felt so much better, Charlie showed us as any good person would show, that if you’re really kind to people and help them out, it makes all the difference in the world. 3: this was the sweetest part of the movie, it showed Charlie and Candices true personalities, Charlie took care of his sister, even when no one else took care of him or even liked him anymore, he showed what a good friend is really like and how we as human beings should be treated. And Candice showed that even though she was popular and too busy for Charlie on the outside, on the inside she was just as human as anyone else and needed someone to care for her and take care of her, and she was just as afraid but still very caring for Charlie on the inside, and she showed that to Charlie when he took care of her. When I saw this scene, I could feel the emotions and the love between them, and I couldn’t believe they left this out of the movie, because this would have made the movie infinitely better
I made my friend (who didn’t read the book) watch this- he turned to me and asked wtf is going on... never realized how much this scene doesn’t make sense to people who didn’t read the book lmao
I don't know who you are stranger, but I love you for putting this scene up here. This scene was so fucking important that they let go off in the movie. It's so strong and moving and it was a major plot point in the book. Thanks again
I hope some day the director decides to make a rated R version and puts in as many deleted scenes that would make sense with the film. All of us that were fans of this movie are now all grown up.
this scene is so beautiful. not only would’ve it benefited the movie by showing their relationship and making the breakdown call more special, but i also wish nina would’ve gotten more screen time and she did this scene really well
RadiantChildxxx because she went to an abortion clinic (she was pregnant) & I guess that's too confrontational or whatever. I think it should be kept but I don't make the guidelines :/
I get that Charlie messed up, but Mary Elizabeth really needs to learn how to deal with people better. She was not good to him at any point in that 'relationship' and forced the whole thing really.
That broke my heart. I've been always close with my sister, even through we have six years of difference. She screamed to my ex when she got to know he called me bitch. She's always taken care of me (I'm the young sister and our parents work full time). She took me to her new job and present me to her work mates. I've been thinking about tattoing her initials on my wrist. And to think someone has to ask to PLEASE, let him have lunch with them... it's so sad. Family should always be there for you
I wish they would have left some remnants of this scene if they couldn't have left the entire scene intact. The only reasons I assume they may not have been able to is to maintain a reasonable running time and a PG-13 rating. I assume the hot button issue of abortion may have set a few doubts with the MPAA.
1:44 I remember coloring my brothers nails in when we were in grade school. My dad saw and was pissed. He said, “what is he fucking gay?” Years later he came out to me but he came out as bi and said, “I don’t fully go that way.” Like there was something wrong with it. I said, “ya know even if you are. I wouldn’t care. It doesn’t change anything. We can just talk about boys together now.” Random thought.
That silence when Charlie and Candice are hugging, knowing that Candice is most likely whispering in a choked voice to her little brother that she's pregnant.... So sad
this scene hits hard for me because in his sister's mind, charlie is doing okay while she's going through a rough patch but in reality, charlie's mind was slipping as the days went by and she would've never known, this whole movie is too familiar and it hurts
It’s incredible to think that someone could hurt his sister so badly, just because they see her as just another person who looks pretty, when Charlie sees her as his kind loving sister (at least until he got into high school), but I realize by this video that our perspectives on people have a great impact on what could happen to them. If you see someone as just someone pretty, then you won’t treat them like they matter and even think it’s okay to hurt them, and they will hate you, but if you see them as someone truly special who you have strong emotions for that you truly care about or even for how kind they are, you will never want to hurt them, and you will try to protect them and you will want them to stay safe, and you will always give them kindness and affection and sympathize with them when they feel hurt, and you will help them in any way you can, and they will always love you. Perspective is the most important part of a life with people or any kind of social life, and we should all cherish the people in our lives
After reading the book, I was so upset that they had left most of the sibling plot lines out... and now you're telling me they filmed a pivotal moment showing why charlie called her and they cut it from the movie?!
I can't remember the film I really need to rewatch it, but in the book, their family's relationship (as in between the parents and three siblings NOT extended family) was one of the best families I've ever read because they had their problems but they loved each other. Especially between the siblings, they argued and fought but they cared so much.
really wish they didn't cut this scene. really wish they would have shown more of the sister and her transformation from being a mean older sister to being more protective of charlie.
This is one of the most touching scenes in the entire film -- but if I had to choose one thing, it would be the last bit, where he's stroking her hair and he flashes back to that Aunt Helen scene where (we eventually find out) she molests him. The look on his face is so PAINED. It really shows how his Aunt his haunting literally every single thing he does, even when he's trying to be a good person. "Something's wrong me with," has so much more impact after that.
I thought this part of the book is not in the script for the movie! I was so wrong... It may not an important scene, deleting it still gave the movie a coherent and same impact. But still... it would be even greater if this scene is included

Perspective is the most important part of a life with people or any kind of social life, and we should all cherish the people in our lives
Por dios, siempre me pregunté porqué no habían puesto eso en la adaptación, y ahora veo que si lo hicieron!!! Y es hermosoooo!!!!
Especially between the siblings, they argued and fought but they cared so much.
cutting from “she’s fast asleep” as a little girl to her not being able to sleep as a grown up 😭
OMG this scene is so awesome!
I can't believe they cut it out
I REALLY need to read the book
Stephen Chbosky wrote both the book and directed the film. No wonder the film still hits messages subtly even without these scenes
I was looking for this scene! too bad they deleted it.
Hands down that's the best movie ever made
really wish they didn't cut this scene. really wish they would have shown more of the sister and her transformation from being a mean older sister to being more protective of charlie.
this is my favorite part of the book and i feel bad they had to remove it 🤧 it's powerful
ughhh I’m so sad they deleted this part. It’s so beautiful
Candace desrved a much bigger role
Awww he's the sweetest brother in the world!
I couldn't be present for my sister when she had to go through it... this scene is crushing me. I should have been there, just like he is.
There are so many amazing deleted scenes that should have been added, even if it had to make the movie R rated. I cried so much watching this..
I just finished listening to the book today and im glad I did cause when Candice asked Charlie for help I knew exactly what the scene was.
She says: "Your are a much nicer person then me."
i am studying and watching this...I can't help falling in love with Charlie
Hiii
Patricia
Can u rply me
This should have been in the film. It was one of the best subplots in the book.
This scene was on the book and I NEEDED IT to be in the movie
This is one of the most touching scenes in the entire film -- but if I had to choose one thing, it would be the last bit, where he's stroking her hair and he flashes back to that Aunt Helen scene where (we eventually find out) she molests him. The look on his face is so PAINED. It really shows how his Aunt his haunting literally every single thing he does, even when he's trying to be a good person. "Something's wrong me with," has so much more impact after that.
i really wish this was in the movie. This way you can see the relationship with his sister. :(
IM SO MAD THIS SCENE IS BEAUTIFUL I WANTED THEM TO CONNECT IN THE MOVIE I NEVER KNEW THIS EXISTED CHARLIE IS SUCH A BABY IM CRYING
I have read this book and barely even know (not until now) that it has a movie adaptation. wow.
this is the most vivid scene I remember from the book and it made me cry so much
Sibilings form the longest bond of human relation, it's why it's always special, whether they're bad or good
I thought this part of the book is not in the script for the movie! I was so wrong... It may not an important scene, deleting it still gave the movie a coherent and same impact. But still... it would be even greater if this scene is included
