- In this video I show you how I sketch portraits.
It's more of a walkthrough and behind-the-scenes look at my drawing process, instead of an in-depth tutorial.
Also, I decided to use Paint Tool Sai because a few of you have requested it.
I hope you'll like it!

Sorry about the length of this video. I wanted to show my entire sketching workflow, so I couldn't make it any shorter. The drawing starts at about 5:30 . Hope you'll enjoy it anyways!
NO don't be sorry thanks for this actually. Watching other videos and your instagram page I get an understanding of how you work, but breaking this down more analytically on a literal step to step basis really helps my improve my art a lot as well. So thanks a lot!
Please do more of these! Honestly, you have no idea how much it helps when i can follow and dissect everything. Helps a lot!
ericanthonyj sorry? This is goooooooood!
My guy that's perfect.
Showing the whole thing is the best thing you can do for us.
Why on earth would you apologize for this?? It's basically what everyone wants! Sometimes you can miss a lot in a quick process video, so this is perfect to learn!
"if you have a great face then everything else will come together quite easily"
so relatable irl 😌
Absolute madlad. Works zoomed in and starts with the eye.
i've started learning about art/digital art recently but none of my sketches look remotely human..
Thank you for this!! I've been looking for a video like this all over TʌT
Tracy story of my life...
All a matter of practice. Development takes time.
Bro, I've never clicked this fast when I saw the notif 😂
I relateeee

Man you can't imagine how much this helped me out. I just got me a new tablet (also Huion btw) and I've been struggling over the past few days to get my lines right and it's so frustrating. Watching this made me realize that I'm maybe rushing myself too much. Thanks Eric.
finally someone spend an hour on a sketch cause all of the "pros" do it in like 15min and here I have my pro doing it for a whole hour
Really appreciate this long video ❤️❤️ please make more of these maybe show us your colouring process? Or a livestream? Thank you so much
Saw this video when it came out --the amount of work I did after this video made me a better portraitor (and artist.) It's not always the popular short videos that do it. Some phrases from this video are etched in my mind... Thanks Eric.
I'm still waiting on that collab sir 😏
nani
Omg SWOOZIE
I love your sketches. I like the way you draw lines. They seem so light and that is their beauty. This is what I am missing in my drawings.
Thanks for going through your process for drawing a portrait from a photo in so much detail! 👏🏼👏🏼
I started picking up digital drawing (been doing pencil/pen drawing for the longest time) so seeing all of your tips are so great! thank you :)
I appreciate you patiently describing how you process so much information from a photograph to your canvas! :) super helpful! Thank you
Love your work so much. I've really taken every tutorial to heart in my process of learning and am starting to get at a point where I am creating things I really like. thanks so much.
Wwoooqqh u posting so frequently and I’m lovinnngg ittt🤩
I appreciate the time you spent on this video. Not many people will do a video showing there entire process. Thanks!
I appreciate these kind of Tutorials it makes all sense like he enjoys it but the other side they learn so Saludo for this Man
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, thanks for your great effort, i always wanted this
I'm a new subscriber (Since like yesterday) And I just want to say, you're tutorials have already really helped improve my art! I was struggling so much, and I still sort of am? But Ii finally have a direction that I want to go in, and I understand what I'm trying to do and how it should work :)
I'm a new patron on your patreon, I have all your brushes, and absolutely love love your work! I always learn so much
Thanks a lot for this video it really helped me improve drastically. am almost a pro now at sketching my reference.💯
I'll get you some easy and really beautiful reference.
1. Go to Pintrest
2. Search Dasha Taran
3. You re good to go
If you don't like her (impossible) there are other models related under her pins so you have everything you need.
Too pretty and cutesy for me. I prefer more severe and sultry women, along the lines of Lana Del Rey, or even maybe someone like Angelina Jolie. Seems like Dasha Taran is more along the lines of what the author of this video likes. Cute and girly rather than seductive and womanly. (Not a bad thing just a different in aesthetic. Both are beautiful but I prefer the “hot” vs “cute” aesthetic, I guess is one way to word it)
Eric’s videos are literally the only useful art tutorials.
I needed this so much, ty for sharing
It's perfect ♥️.... Thank You I always love watching
This is really helpful ❤️ thank you so much. The searching for reference is so Relatable 💯.
Thank you for the walkthrough, really enjoyed following along!
Awesome video!!! I really enjoyed it even tho it was quite long. Actually I would really like to see more real time sketches and paintings coming in future.
Have a nice day everyone and stay positive
Man your line work is what I aspire to
Danke, dass du so ins Detail gegangen bist 💖
Thank you so much for making this video! I am taking a drawing class and i am really having a hard time with faces, so this video is going to help me a lot ☺️

You should have way more subscribers, you are amazing :O
Very useful!
Awesome!
Thankyou for this ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks that helped a lot.
Thanks for this walkthrough. I am really looking for lengthy art videos on UA-cam. Will appreciate if you could make a coloring & shading walkthrough of the sketch from this video.
I’m glad to see you starting with the eyes. That’s how I do it, but I was wondering if Loomis is the only way to be good at portrait sketches
Oooh thank you for this video! Could you please do the same type of video but for when you are doing the coloring?
Like your video. Please do more real time walkthrough with sai!
Thx so much for this
I’m going to finally try this “piece by piece” style of drawing today... I’ve been drawing all my life and I always listened to the people who said starting with the eye or nose is the “wrong” way and that you have to map it all out. I always start with the head shape and try to get the panes and proportions and then add the features. But I find that if I get any little part wrong it messes everything up. This way seems easier and putting less emphasis on how accurate your first couple marks are... Hope it works out well for me. I’m really scared. Drawing with a layout/large frame is all I know.
j0eycans you got this I’m gonna do the same thing.. I learnt Andrew loomis head shape and build panes too.. this seems like it counts on the eyes being the puncher will be interesting
I did the opposite, i used to do things like this, start from the small pieces like eyes then to nose etc.
I noticed that making a map for the face is easier to balance things out, where if i were to draw like this video, i often adjusted my pieces because i don't feel like they are in the right position.
I guess each person did different method that fits them nicely.
Good video 💕
Don't be sorry, great explaination
Hello can you do a tutorial how to sketch body figures with references? Thankyou. 😁
painting process next please :D
Nice!
Thats epic
no, that's eric
first commen l love your art
Thanks 😊
Hi love you work, I wanted to say you truly inspire me as a graphic designer and illustrator. 🥰 I wanted to ask how did you get commission or paid jobs for your work? I’m about to be done with school and i want a job after I’m done.
Thank you. Awesome. Please show us how can painting this model?
Will you make a colouring and shading video too?
This is amazing. I blows my mind that you don't use any "guidelines". I am guessing this is because you are using a reference picture so you already have a guide, but that just amazes me.
He kinda does tho, but instead of drawing it he imagines it, really powerful tbh
What ends up happening with really good artists is that they have the method stuck in their heads and follow it in there mind
Awesome (and that its real time).. but how many videos about it are you gonna make.. :D
Thanks so much for this wonderful video Eric. One hour well spend. Maybe a stupid question, but can you use any Pinterest photo as reference, when you upload your sketch later to the web or social media? Most of the Pinterest photos are copyrighted (Pinterest members don't care about that and post them there anyway). Can we use them as a reference AND post the sketch online?
muito loko traço desse cara
How u make this shape of pencil, this option under the widow with brushes, pencil, etc.
Don't be sorry about the length of the video, some of us really need the detail explanation, I like the way you explained everything. It's show the whole process from the beginning to the end. It's feels like I'm in the online classroom 😂
would you please do an in depth video like this for painting it
Please do a tutorial for front face view too ❤
Hello, I want to ask, how do you bring up a brush preview curved line under tools like yours?
Does it use additional plugins? Or are there hidden settings?
Thank you in advance.
Can you please do real time colouring process too. It’ll be so helpful even if you skip voiceover part.
I’m new to digital art but I’ve got clip studio pro and a good tablet. Can I do what you have done here with the reference image in clip studio ?.
Heyy, im trying to improve on my art as i want to try to do this as a full btime job, im wondering what type of technology / tablet you use mainly to draw with so i could have a look in purchasing one, im also wondering what software you use / prefer and think is the best, im currently using photoshop but im feeling like clip studio paint would be better? please let me know!
Hi, please suggest - are there anyways to increase the size of these tool panels. I have a 4K display on my DELL XPS and the tools panel on most of these photos and art editing programs/apps they look so so tiny that we need to struggle to see what brushes are there etc., I am sure from your video, I see you too have it smaller and presuming yours is also a high-resolution display. Are there any workarounds for this other than changing the display resolution in MS Windows display settings?
Hi um I downloaded your mega brush pack today and I’m not sure how to import it into clip studio paint, can you please explain how to do that?
Please which software are you using
What program do you use for digital illustration? Photoshop ?
:D sai! Do you only making sketvh or paitings too?
Eric so I draw in my Lenovo tab right and I searched for paint tool Sai or whatever it's called but play store took me to medibang paint so it's a windows application or can we use it in the normals tabs too?
Next : 1 hour in depth coloring :D
It would be great if you could share the reference image with us (maybe link it the description box ) so that it would become easy to follow along
I agree with you. Looking for references is annoying especially when you're picky 😭
which software you used sir
procreate is really an excellent drawing program, let's say it is even more versatile in some sense from Photoshop and so on, so that on the tablet, there is more freedom of action, albeit more limited in the program sense. If it is interesting, go to the channel, see a couple of examples of how I draw, maybe you will find something for yourself)
Try using pureref
I noticed that after you finish sketching, you change the color of your lines to a more red color, is there a purpose for this? Is it to make the lines look more natural after you paint? I am also confused on how you do this using an adjustment layer. When I try to change the color balance of the sketch art it doesn't change the color at all. Thanks!
He tends to have a style without line art so making the lines more red helps with to things color theory and to make the drawing look more alive
Why not in CSP? :(
What is your art style called? Is it semi realism?
it's called sketching.
ok since there's no a lot of comments yet i have a question.. if you Stol colors from the reference its not considered as cheating right ?
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I don't know why, but PTS1 is so much better than v.2, but the only one working on my pc is v.2
