Had the honor of meeting and shaking hands with the great Joe Sample and got my CD (Sample this) autographed along with the concert program Y2K Spartanburg SC
Not many live performances and an outdoor live performance at that , can rival the studio recorded original . I totally enjoyed the the performers playing off of one another here for a sound apart from the studio recording . There is a reminiscent transcendence aspect of music how it brings to mind a person place experience and time . that always keep the listener connected to the songs that play to the keys of our life and times . Listening to Joe Sample, his music not only does so every time , to watch him play it is like hearing him for the first time as Joe plays the music we have known for years, new to the ear as he plays better now than ever . A true legend and American Musical treasure . Any accompaniment including Lenny Castro, my heart is paced to the rhythm from the time of my youth , brought to mind de mi barrio en el bronx . Lenny, in his own right a conga and percussion master , truly returns home the ear to the sounds of Ray Barretto, Joe Cuba and El Rey de los Timbales the great Tito Puente. Love this performance of Carmel , I'd love as much to view a live performance of "Black Is The Color" from the Invitation CD.
