Joe Zawinul was keyboardist for alto saxophonist Cannonball Adderley's instrumental jazz quintet in the 1960's; he wrote the song "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" for Adderley's 1966 album "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy! Live at 'The Club.'" The song was a huge hit. Then in February 1967 Johnny "Guitar" Watson and Larry Williams wrote lyrics for the song and they scored a hit on the R & B charts; 6 months later The Buckinghams recorded the song with those particular lyrics and their recording climbed all the wayto to #5 on the pop charts.
What I love about Queen Latifa, is that she is.the Queen of rap, she is also a good.actress, she's has amazing skin which is why she got involved with cover girl makeup, her voice is amazing and etc... I can't even think about how many more talents she has.
You sound like M C Lyte on vocals. She was just here spiritually about two months ago in the Homewood section of Pittsburgh ( Westinghouse High) 1200 Murltlan Ave. Pittsburgh Pennsylvania 15208. I play with Pro Mark drum sticks and mallets ❤😂🎉😅

She’s amazing. Covered this song on Dana Owens Album from 2004. Vinnie was on it and one of my heroes Brandon Fields as well.

I had no idea there was lyrics to this song. So use to the instrumental version like Buddy Riches..... This is awesome and so is Queen L !!
Excellent 👍👍
The versions i remember were by the Buckinghams then Buddy Rich and his Big Band. That was covered by a lot of high school jazz bands.
Latifah sings great... but Vinnie is on another level. Smokin
Vinnie.....

Well well I never knew she had pipes ❤. And Vince 🥰

Not the greatest singer, but one super all-around talent. And she comes off as someone you would love to know.
This song was written by Josef Zawinul of Weather Report. I don’t know who added the lyrics.
I’m not sure who exactly added lyrics to Zawinul’s tune but I do know that The Buckinghams had a hit with the song in the late ‘60’s🤷♂️
Gail Fisher
wrote the lyrics…
